Speaker 1

Well, hello? Hello. It is Thursday evening and we have just arrived in Tica . Stay tuned for some more antics. And carryings on throughout the weekend. We have tonight tomorrow night, Saturday night and Sunday night here in Tica. So I have all weekend to share with you. So stand by . Don't go anywhere. Hello. And we're back. And I have the GT with me.

Speaker 2

Hello

Speaker 1

Everyone. We are on top of the world at Memphis, Tennessee. What is the restaurant called?

Speaker 2

The lookout,

Speaker 1

The lookout in the pyramid, right?

Speaker 2

Yes. It's a beautiful, beautiful view.

Speaker 1

Yes. The lookout at the pyramid, it is actual pyramid that has bass pro shop shop in it. And some other things I think too, I don't know, hotel a hotel, which we've not been to, but we're here for the restaurant. This is our second visit at the restaurant. And they have an observation deck that you can go out on that has a glass floor

Speaker 2

That you look down to .

Speaker 1

Yeah, the first time you brought me here, I could barely do it this , but today I did a lot better.

Speaker 2

She was a trooper. Absolutely went out by herself, actually.

Speaker 1

Yes. And what did you have for lunch here

Speaker 2

Today? I had the creamy salmon over wild rice with broccoli. Now the wild rice looked a whole lot like mashed potatoes, but I'm not, I'm gonna , I'm gonna take their word for it and say it was rice, but,

Speaker 1

And I had a chicken grilled chicken sandwich. Oh. And then we had some Virgin bloody Marys , which were delicious.

Speaker 2

Yes. The

Speaker 1

Olives very spicy

Speaker 2

And the olives were great. Mm-hmm

Speaker 1

all right . Well that's all for now. It's a little noisy in here, so I'll be right.

Speaker 2

And we're waiting on dessert

Speaker 1

And we're waiting on dessert. What do we get? A double Decker, strawberry strawberry short cake . All right . So I will be right back. Don't go anywhere. Hey, I'm back. It's the same day. We're back at the hotel. I'm sitting here on the bed, sweaty and sore.

I just finished an hour on the treadmill in the hotel gym here at gold strike in Tica , uh , did from the Peloton app with Kirsten Ferguson, Kristen Ferguson, I think is her name, the instructor , uh , th uh , an hour, but it was , uh , a ladder type thing where you would walk a minute, run a minute, walk, two minutes, run two minutes, walk, three minutes, run three minutes on, up to five minutes and then back down again.

And now she, you know, wanted you to run a little faster, but since I'm still considered, I consider myself a beginner. I did like a jog. I didn't run run, but I did run faster than I thought I would or could. So, you know, I did. All right . I got my heart rate up. I was sweating. It felt really good. Especially after that double Decker strawberry shortcake from the lookout restaurant in Memphis. Oh my gosh. I should not have eaten that. I feel like a fat cow now .

Um, but anyway, now we are getting ready. I'm taking a shower, get ready again. And then we're gonna go have dinner at Binions, which is not in this hotel. It's the one next to us at the horseshoe, which is a Caesar's property. We're in an MGM property. And right next door, though, that's connected to this one is the horseshoe, and then they have Binions and we're gonna go over there and eat tonight. And then tomorrow night, we're coming back to our hotel and eating at the Chicago steakhouse.

Anyway, you can find all of these images and photos and videos on my Instagram account and probably Twitter maybe. And later on Facebook also, I'm getting back on tape reel , T a P E R E a L. I was on it a long time ago and did really, really good with it. And I , you know, I had a lot of followers, a lot of videos, a lot of , um, um, oh , viewers, but it's a startup company now. So, and so they, they respect your privacy and all that, but it's a brand new startup .

And so they've had some issues with some things that I did not wanna be associated with, but I think they've fixed them and resolved them. I think there's just one man, maybe two people running it. So it's hard to keep up with everything I'm sure. But anyway, go check it out. Tape reel, T a P E R E a L. And you have, it's an app and , uh, you know, it's a growing thing. So I'll probably put some videos up over there, maybe, but mainly Instagram and Facebook later. Okay. I'll be right back.

Don't go anywhere. We're gonna go eat dinner. Maybe , uh , I'll do a clip at dinner. So don't go anywhere. Stand by . Well, hello. And I am back. It is Saturday morning. Now I have a lot to tell you. Uh , first of all, last night was , uh, we went yesterday. We went to the pyramid in Memphis and ate at the lookout restaurant. And then we came back, I went to the gym and worked out here at the hotel at the gold strike hotel. It did an hour on the treadmill. It was a walk run type thing.

And then we got ready and , um, headed to dinner. It seems like we did some other things too, cuz dinner wasn't until seven o'clock. But well, I went well. I went to the gym late. Anyway. We found out that the gold strike MGM here in Tica slash Ville, Mississippi has sold their property, this particular property to the Cherokee nation gaming holdings. Oh no Cherokee nation entertainment, gaming holdings for $450 million now.

And that's gonna happen at the be , uh , the switchover I think, is gonna happen at the beginning of 2023. And we will no longer be coming here because , uh, for one we won't be getting, since it won't be an MGM property, we won't be getting points anymore on our membership or whatever you call that, that you have a card and you come here and you spend money and you get points and whatever, we will not be coming here anymore.

and I'm surprised it took this long for MGM to sell their property because Tica was supposed to be a big, like the new Vegas or whatever. And for whatever reason, it never happened and never got off the ground. So a lot of these casinos here just kind of flopped. I mean, they're , some of 'em are still open, but they're not real, very good in , I mean , anyway, I'm not, we won't be coming here anymore because of that because they sold the property. Won't be an MGM property anymore. Yep .

And um, so we will be hopefully, maybe going to the Beau Rivage, which is in Biloxi , Mississippi, which is another two more hours away from us. So it would be like a five and a half hour trip. Therefore we will not be going as often as we come , we used to come here. Now there's a Caesar's property right next door to this one that we are in right now in Ville that he has a card for. But it just is not gonna be the same. I'm afraid that this property will just go downhill after being sold.

And so we're not gonna be coming here anymore and we're gonna try the Beau Rivage. I don't know when 90 times soon probably cuz it's a longer trip for us now. And uh, anyway, that's that today though, we are going to go eat breakfast here in a minute and then I am gonna go work out at the gym. I don't know what I'm gonna do yet it and then , um, oh, I get a massage today. Ooh . I'm excited about that.

And dinner as that , we're having an early dinner tonight at five 30 and then last night we went, we sat at the entertainment. I forget the name of the lounge that they have the band perform and everything, but it was Ronie G R H O N E Y G was the entertainment. And he was really, really good. So we sat there for a couple of hours and watched all the drunk people dance and carry on. It was fun. Um, but yeah, that's what we're doing so far.

And that's what's happening with MGM gold strike and I'm back now that I've had a after breakfast nap, I went down and worked out at the hotel gym and did a 20 minute warmup run. So this warmup, it was a 20 minute beginners run and it was all running. The recovery part was a slow jog. Then the effort part was a run and then the recovery part was not a walk. It was a run. So it was all running.

Of course I had to walk some of it because the workout I did yesterday was so long and hours worth, but that's okay. I will do that one again because I need to learn how to run or I need to build up my strength and endurance to run all the time. So I'm going to give a little shout out to these shoes that I bought when I was in Ohio, visiting my sister Brooks , running shoes. I believe they have saved my knees from blowing out all the way.

You know, I've had surgery on one of my knees many, many, many years ago, several years ago. So I was a little antsy. Also I have gout that sometimes might want to flare up every once in a great while. I've had gout like three times in my life, big toe in my foot. And I think these broke shoes have really helped with the running and being able to do it without injuring myself. Um, and then I did some arm work out .

I , they had some machines down there like lap pulldowns , uh, push press, but you sit up and do it. You know, you're pushing, of course I worked out with some dumbbells. So anyway, I did some upper body works out workout , did some light squats and that was, that's what I did today. And now I'm going to get in the shower and then I'm going to go get my massage. So I will be back. Don't go anywhere. Wait a minute. Before I go, I have to tell you what I did the other day . okay.

Don't laugh because I know I'm 55 years old the other day when they did the mask mandates at work again, I was so livid. I love my job. I really do like it it's easy, but sometimes, you know, it's getting a little boring now that I've been doing it for two years, I feel like my brain might be turning to mush and I get bored easily. But , um , so when they did the mask mandates, I decided to apply for some jobs. And I don't ask me why I did this.

I don't know why, but I applied for flight attendant with , uh , several different airlines. And I got through with Bri airlines, I got the , they invited me to do a pre-recorded interview and they , I had a certain amount of time to do it in and I couldn't my schedule. I , the only way I could do it was in my car. So I'm , I know I looked hideous and I believe I bombed the interview. I'll be surprised if I hear back from them. Um , I don't know, doing something like that just makes me nervous.

I'd rather see somebody in person cuz they only give you like, you know, 20 seconds, 30 seconds to prepare your answer before it starts recording you. And you know, the pressure's on, you know, I mean, and I, you know, I researched and figured out what kind of questions they would ask in the course, all the questions that I researched, they did not ask those questions.

But anyway, then the , then , uh , Allegiant, I guess I applied with them because uh , they sent me an email telling me that they are doing interviews in Nashville on August 12th. And I watched a couple of their videos. They were very extensive with their video and what to expect with their training and all that and pay scale . I mean they laid it out. It was really nice. And so I felt out the little form. So August 12th, I'll probably be going to Nashville. We'll see.

And then, so when I applied, apparently uploading my resume, it had , my resume has my , uh , an email address, an old email address of mine that I hardly ever check. So I missed a couple of deadlines cuz I'm thinking, well, I , for some reason I decided to go check that email in there. They were, they were all the airlines asking me to do this, asked me to do that. And I was like, crap. I only had like three days to respond.

And by then it was already past due because I wasn't checking that email. I , you know, just clicked on me. It was like, oh wait, you know what? I bet they're using that email. And I went and checked and sure enough, but anyway, whatever y'all know, I'm terrified of flying. What possessed me to try to do a flight attendant. I don't know, but we'll see the Allegion airline things though. I like that. Cuz they said they are home every night.

It's not like your traditional air airline where you might fly somewhere and stay there for a couple days and fly here and stay there a couple days and fly there and here . And where you stay, where you're gone from home for several days at a time, Allegiant said you're home every day . The only problem with Allegiant is they said you have to be 90 miles, 90 minutes away. Nashville to Huntsville is pushing it. Or I mean Huntsville to Nashville. Cause I live in Huntsville.

Their thing is out of Nashville. That's the closest one to me that would be pushing it. And I would have to drive that every day . Whew . I don't know, man. I don't know if I'm, I don't know if I can do that. but we'll see. We'll see. We'll see. I think it would be fun to do and it would make me face my fear and get over it. Okay. Now I'm gonna go get in the shower and then go get my massage. I'll be back. All right, here it is. What is it? Saturday night at nine 30.

And I'm already in bed in Tica . I'm exhausted today. Had a big day. Uh , we , uh, well I already told you about some of my day earlier, but then we went and ate at Chicago steakhouse laying here, watching TV, winding down and I have the GT here say hello? Hello. And uh, just wanted to say goodnight and recap our day for you. How about you? The G how was your day today?

Speaker 2

My day was wonderful because I got to spend a lot of it with my beautiful Bri

Speaker 1

.

Speaker 2

We had a good day. We got up early and we laid around in bed and drank coffee , uh , unique to us. We think maybe some other people, but wherever we go, we have to bring our coffee maker and our own coffee with us so that when we get up in the morning, we can have our own coffee. We don't have to go downstairs and get it or go to the store and get it. So,

Speaker 1

Or, or get some yucky coffee.

Speaker 2

Yeah. So we have our own coffee in bed and we just start the day and it was a wonderful day.

Speaker 1

It even says it in my, all of my social media profiles. That coffee snob.

Speaker 2

Yes. There's an interesting story behind that too. do you want me to tell that ? Yeah, we took our honeymoon to Europe. Uh , we went on a Greek island, Crow , Mediterranean cruise, and we learned that that phrase espresso is not a strong coffee. It's just fresh made coffee and the Europeans and the Greeks and all didn't have brewed coffee sitting in a canister. If you ordered a coffee, the coffee was made for you at that point in time and they didn't call it a coffee.

They called it an espresso. So it's not this American version of, you know, getting espresso cause it's strong. No espresso is just fresh made coffee. So we got accustomed to having fresh made coffee. When we got on the airplane to come back, we had gotten to the airport early and we didn't want coffee because we were just, you know , wanting to get on the plane. When we got on the plane, they served me some coffee and I looked in it and I could through the cup.

I could read the book that I was reading through the bottom of the cup and the coffee and I said, that's it. I will never drink America . Made coffee again. Now granted, we go buy our own coffee. We get it roasted at a certain place and all , but from that point on we became coffee snobs.

Speaker 1

Yes, yes, yes, yes, indeed. All right . I cannot believe I am this tired at nine 30 on a Saturday night in Tica, Ville, Mississippi at the gold strike. Well, we stayed out pretty late last night watching the band and drunk people dance.

Speaker 2

Yes and I think usually it's one o'clock in the morning and I'm looking over at Carol and she's like, you know , let's listen to a couple more songs and by two o'clock work like, oh , I think it's time to go to bed. Yeah. And three o'clock rolls around and we're looking at each other going, you know, we're probably gonna wake up at five. like , oh boy, here we go. So yes, this is kind of unique to be in bed at nine

Speaker 1

30. Yeah. Yeah. Last night wore me out . It just goes to show that I am getting older and I feel like I'm getting old, old. I feel like I'm old. I can't take it anymore. All

Speaker 2

Right . Yes. But we have quality.

Speaker 1

Yes. Okay. Well I'm all right . We're gonna end it for now. I'll be back tomorrow with another little small clip. I am sure. Uh , tomorrow is only Sunday. Um , okay, so don't go anywhere. I'll be right back. Okay. It is now Monday morning and we are sitting in bed having our coffee, trying to get motivated to get up and start packing up to leave Tica for me, it might be the last time here.

No, no. Okay. Well, you know, I talked , I know I talked earlier in the episode that gold strike has been sold, but I don't think that's gonna happen. And it , I mean it's sold, but the new management, whatever, won't take over till the beginning of the year. But anyway, here we are here in bed , having coffee, getting ready to get up and leave. What are you, what , how would you recap the weekend?

Speaker 2

I think it was phenomenally great. I had a wonderful time. Everything seemed to go very smoothly. You know, being of age as I am now, I find that we , we , we get picky about a lot of things, but Carol has told me to overcome that and experience everything in a great way.

So I , I have , I appreciate her helping me through those senior moments that you see on the commercials, you know, where you want to talk to the manager and say, you know, let me tell you that wheel's a little squeaky on that cart. You know, that type of thing. So , I guess it's the micromanaging of the way everything could be perfect and all that kind of stuff. So I overlooked those things and realized it was a great weekend. Oh ,

Speaker 1

okay then. All right , well,

Speaker 2

So I'm the, I guess I was the topic of this morning's conversation. Hmm . I guess I took it over. Yeah. That's okay. Okay. Well maybe I start a podcast on

Speaker 1

Time . Yeah. I think you should. I can help you with the technical stuff. Kind of, you just have to use your voice thing. What would you name it? If you start , if you had a podcast, the gent ,

Speaker 2

No , the gents I'd name it. Carrie re remarks edited by Carol .

Speaker 1

No , no , it should be the , the gen outlook on life or something like that. The gents perspective

Speaker 2

I look into his warped mind. that would be funny. I could get a lot of, I could probably, you know, get like 48 subscribers.

Speaker 1

Yeah . It'd be more than I have.

Speaker 2

oh my ,

Speaker 1

I think it might downloads the most. Well, if you go back a while , cuz you know, we've, I've had this podcast for a very long time. I have over a hundred episodes and you know, we started Gracie and I started it together. Right. I remember as a mother daughter project to do something to have around for, you know, when I'm not here anymore, whatever for her to look back on and whatever, and for us to spend time together.

But then she got busy, got married, started doing a , she started a life of road and got busy doing so I just took it over for myself. Okay . And uh , I forgot where I was going with that senior moment.

Speaker 2

Sam there. You have it . All right then.

Speaker 1

Well, I forgot where I was going with that point. okay. Well I guess we'll wrap it up cause it's like over 20 minutes . This is a oh, I was talking about episode downloads.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

Back when she and I were doing it, we were doing pretty good. And then I took it over and it kind of gone downhill

Speaker 2

Oh , I'm sure it hasn't but I do need to do a shout out real quick if I could.

Speaker 1

Okay. Do a shout

Speaker 2

Out . This is one of the things and we'll probably go over this. I'll probably get invited back, but we have now decided that relaxing balance of nature relief factor, super beats Koch Uten and focus factor are gonna be part of our daily , uh , regime regiments so that we can , um, what was I talking about?

Speaker 1

Exactly. Exactly. So we can focus and remember and be healthy and live a youthful.

Speaker 2

Do we have any Metamucil

Speaker 1

oh , well these could be shoutouts. That needs to be our sponsors for our podcast

Speaker 2

And Metamucil.

Speaker 1

Yes. I love Metamucil . I love Metamucil .

Speaker 2

That's vial.

Speaker 1

We it's not vial. It's vial. All right , we're gonna go. Okay . All right . Y'all have a good week and I'll talk to y'all later. Thanks for listening. Word.
