He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal, so says the attorney for Sean ditty Comb. Hello everybody, I'm T J.
Holt and I'm Amy Robach. It's Tuesday, September seventeenth. Sean ditty Comb's arrested in Manhattan. Last night. Trump blames Biden and Harris for people wanting to shoot him. Elon Musk makes a joke, the White House didn't laugh.
Also, an asteroid will pass Earth today. No, you won't have to duck. The fight over the most talked about bronze medal maybe ever continues. The Moon is going through an identity crisis tonight. A common sleep disorder can now be diagnosed by your Apple Watch.
Miley Cyrus can buy yourself flowers, but now being sued for not writing her own song. And Amazon is about to mess it up for the rest of us.
But we're going to start our morning ron on this Tuesday with Sean ditty Combs taken into federal custody. We got word late last night that the music mogul, the music Icon, was arrested at the Parkhayatt hotel in Midtown Manhattan, some reports saying plucked right out of the lobby. This all after a grand jury indictment indicted him in a criminal investigation. He's expected in court today and that's when the indictment will be unsealed and we expect to get
the details of the exact charges he's facing. But he had been facing a federal sex trafficking investigation since late last year.
And this has been a rapid turn of events which started last November when his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him, alleging years of physical and sexual abuse. Did He initially strongly denied those allegations, but the lawsuit was settled the very next day. Soon after, two more women filed lawsuits against Ditty alleging sex abuse, and then more lawsuits would follow, at least nine from women, one from a man, accusing Ditty of sexual abuse.
And drug Then, in March of this year, federal agents raided Ditty's homes in Los Angeles and Miami as part of an investigation into sex trafficking, narcotics, and weapons, a move that Diddy's attorneys called excessive. Then came the video in May, hotel surveillance video aired by CNN that showed Ditty chasing then girlfriend Cassie down a hallway, kicking her repeatedly while she was on the ground, and dragging her down the hall.
It is been hard to watch, and it's been playing throughout the night tonight. Did He soon afterwards apologized for that video. But then people, brands, even cities started to distance themselves from him. The prep school in Harlem that he started ended its partnership with him. The mayor of New York asked him to return the key to this city. Howard University revoked his honorary degree. You get the point. Everyone distancing themselves from Diddy.
Did He's lawyer released a statement saying they were quote disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust process in quote went on to say that Diddy had relocated to New York in recent days in anticipation of the charges, that had been cooperating with the investigation. All things that are not typical of a guilty man, they say. The lawyer goes on to ask, please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts.
And we will wait for that, but we continue our run with Trump, the man, federal officials say wanted to assassinate President Trump apparently brought snacks with him. That is one of the strange details in the affidavit against fifty eight year old Ryan Wesley Ralph, who was in court Monday facing two federal gun charges related to the alleged plot.
Authority say Ralph actually staked out the area for about twelve hours surrounding the golf course where the former president was playing Sunday before Secret Service agents spotted the barrel of a gun through a tree line, a fence line, i should say, and fired at Ralph. He fled. He didn't get any shots off, but he was soon taken into custody. A rifle, backpacks, GoPro, and that food all that was found in the area where Routh had fled.
The Secret Service says Routh never actually had Trump in his line of sight, and of course Trump was unharmed. That, of course, very different from the first attempt on Trump's life that happened at a rally in Pennsylvania just two months ago, where he was clipped in the ear by a bullet. Now, after this latest incident, people and politicians immediately denounced political violence and urged all sides to tone down the rhetoric.
But many were taken aback by the rhetoric. Trump used to ask others to tone down their rhetoric of the shooter. Trump said, and I quote he believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris and he acted on it. Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at when I am the one who is going to save the country and
they're the ones that are destroying the country. His running mate J D. Vance, not to be outdone, said this quote, you know, the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months. In quote, this is scary stuff. And many took some of those quotes and some of those words almost as instructions to go after the Democrats.
As you always tell me, words matter. And next up on our run, Elon Musk weighed in as well. Trump ally, Elon Musk didn't help tone things down with this social media post, and I'm quoting him here. No one is even trying to assassinate Kamala slash Biden. Well, that post was put up on x formerly known as Twitter, and was soon after deleted.
And Musk claimed later that it was a joke, but the White House called it irresponsible and in a statement said violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about. This is relevant for a whole number of reasons. A lot of people are contributing to some bad rhetoric out there, but Elon Musk is different because Elon Musk is the number one user of x Twitter. He has one hundred and ninety five plus followers, the number he has under
ninety five million. Excuse me, thank you for that hundred ninety five plus million. He has more than anybody else on that platform. He says anything and it goes everywhere.
Yeah, this is a very scary political climate we're in, and everyone, politicians, folks, in the media, anyone is responsible for what comes out of their mouth and what they put out on social media, and as we have seen, it can have real life scary effects. So please everyone remember that Our run continues this morning with Ohio governor sending troops to protect school starting today. A contingent of thirty six troopers will be a dozens I believe seventeen
to be specific Springfield, Ohio schools. This is to sweep the buildings and stay on campus through dismissal, after thirty three bomb threats have now been called into schools there. These threats began after last week's presidential debate, where we heard former President Trump repeating a baseless rumor that Haitian immigrants in that city of Springfield, Ohio were actually abducting cats and dogs and pets and then eating them.
Ohio Governor Mike Dwine ordered the deployment to reassure the city after thousands of students have been disrupted even evacuated from schools in recent days. Governor says, so far none of the threats had any validity, but they are taking them seriously. They have to city Hall. Several local hospitals have been threatened as well.
Now, thousands of Haitians have settled into that city of Springfield following the pandemic to fill jobs in the area. Vice presidential nominee Jade Vans, Trump's running mate and Ohio's junior senator, has been referencing Springfield in recent months to criticize the Biden administration's border policies. Because because Haitian immigrants in that city have put some pressure on the city
social services and schools. So this is a very charged environment that is having real life impact for the residents there, the students and parents. It's a tough situation that isn't ending anytime soon.
Historic times difficult times, and our political discourse has been dominated by the idea of eating cats and dogs in a little town that most people can't find on a map that is where we are, and that is unfortunate.
And to your point earlier, joking about this sort of thing, or even perpetuating things that are unfounded, can have serious and dangerous implications.
Well, say with us here, folks, our morning run is going to continue up next. You really didn't think Jordan Child was going to put that bronze medal in a FedEx and send it back. Let's continue our morning run now with Jordan Child, the bronze medalist, right, Well, they told her to send it back, But you didn't really think she was just going to send that bronze medal
back without a fight, did you. She has now filed an appeal to the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland regarding the decision that cost her her Olympic bronze medal last.
Month, she was ultimately stripped of her medal after the Romanian gymnastics team challenged the judge's decision to revise Child's score after her degree of difficulty wasn't fully taken into account. That revised score put Jordan Chiles in third place, earning her the bronze medal.
Okay, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld that challenge, saying Child's team did not ask for the review in time. Her attorneys say that that Court of Arbitration violated her right to be heard, refusing to consider video evidence that showed her inquiry was in fact submitted on time. They're hoping she'll be allowed to prepare a defense and present that evidence in a retrial before that Court of Arbitration and romes. What are we talking about here? Four seconds? What?
No?
How many seconds?
Was?
It was only a matter of seconds? They said, her review came in late, and that's why her score shouldn't have changed. You're right about seconds.
Here, correct, Well, they said that you have sixty seconds when you're the final competitor, which she was the final competitor on that floor exercise, you have one minute to raise an inquiry, and the US Gymnastics Federation has said that they not only got it within well within the time, but they had a second inquiry with five seconds to spare, so and they say they have video evidence that proves that they asked for that revision or at least they
put in the inquiry for a revised score well within the alloted time, and they're hoping that, they said, Chriles has not been able to present this evidence, so if she's allowed to have a retrial, she will be able to put all of this in front of that panel. And they claim this is a black and white, easy case to arbitrate here because it's clearly evidenced that she and her coaches made that inquiry in time. So we'll have to stay tuned and see what happens next with that.
But next up on the Morning Run, there's an asteroid alert. In fact, NASA has issued that alert for a stadium sized asteroid that is set to make a what they're calling close approach to Earth today. The asteroid is ginormous. It's nine hundred and fifty feet across and it will come within one million kilometers of Earth, to which I ask we need an alert for.
That it's relatively close in space term, just relatively close, just being tracked by a virtual telescope project traveling around forty thousand kilometers an hour. Have no idea how to put that into real terms. But even though it poses no risks to Earth on its current trajectory, we're told that even a small deviation could have major consequences. Okay, this is your reality check. It will not pass close enough to Earth to see it without a telescope. That's
important to note. So you won't just be able to look up and see it. If you can look up and.
See, we are in trouble if it's made that slight deviation. I'm always concerned because I feel like we get these alerts at least a couple of times a year. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do with this alert.
It's information. When we call an alert, it seems like it's a warning, but it's just information. This is it's almost three times farther from Earth than the Moon is. To give some perspective there. That kind of helps. But again, this is relatively close in space terms, So sure I want to hear about it.
I do you though, Okay, all right, Well, let's just say this. If you're looking for something to see in the night sky tonight without a telescope and that poses no risk to us whatsoever and has some potential high reward, your in luck tonight is your night. It is being called a celestial trifecta. Tonight there will be three cosmic events happening all at the same time during a full moon. So let me see if I can get this straight. The harvest moon will coincide with a super moon, which
will make it look like a blood moon. And on top of all of that, but there was a partial lunar eclipse to give you some perspective here, Harvest moons happen each year close to the start of fall, so that makes sense. This is all happening right now. Supermoon's happen about three to four times a year, but all three events taking place at the same time is, according to NASA, quite rare.
Heay, did y'all get all this the moon stuff, blood, super harvest, harvest. Okay, here's the thing. Just look up at the moon tonight. It's gonna be cool. The best time to see this will depend on where you are, but the lunar eclipse will peak at around ten forty four pm Eastern time, and all of North and South America will have a chance to see the harvest full supermoon. Is that and lunar eclipse and the lunar eclipse depending
on the weather. If you miss it, don't worry. You'll have another chance in about nine.
Years October eighth, twenty thirty three to be specific. All right up next on the morning run. Apple has done it again. Yesterday we told you about the AirPods that can become hearing aids. Well, now you're at watch could
actually diagnose a dangerous sleep disorder. The US Food and Drug Administration the FDA has officially approved Apple's new sleep apnea detection feature for use, and it's available if you have an Apple Watch already, if you have the Series nine ten or the Ultra two with a simple software update.
This is incredible. Sleep apnea causes you to have breathing issues while you're sleeping at night. You start to breathe rapidly and you stop and start throughout the night, and affects more than thirty million people here in the US, but only about six million are actually diagnosed, according to doctors, because so many people are reluctant to seek out testing because it's time consuming and it's costly.
Yes, so doctors who treat sleep apnea believe that this Apple Watch feature could potentially be a game changer. And this is interesting especially for patients who sleep alone. Many of them will likely be surprised to find out they're
showing signs to this disorder. They don't have a a partner to wake them up and say what are you doing, or are concerned for them, so they're alone, and this actually, this watch feature could potentially help lives safe lives even because if left untreated, sleep apnea can cause fatigue at the very low levels, but it can eventually lead to more serious health problems like heart issues, hypertension, and even type two diabetes.
We applaud this again because it's cool to see that our wearable devices, that these things we use to just listen to music or go for a run by looking at your watch can actually have impacts and literally now in some cases, save your life. So well done, Apple. We continue our run with a song that we often do listen to while we're on an actual run out there.
This is the song you could not get out of your Head, the song that you Couldn't get away from, the song that want to Grammy this Year, the song we all know and love, the song I can't get my daughter or my girlfriend who stops singing? Well, it's now the center of a lawsuit. Miley Cyrus facing a lawsuit legend she copied Bruno Mars hit song When I Was Your Man for her hit song Flowers.
And to that we say du uh. Cyrus obviously was copying Bruno Mar's head, but a new lawsuit says she didn't have the right to do so and is now accusing her of copyright infringement. Tempo Music is a company claiming it owns part of that copyright to the Bruno Mars song and that Flowers wouldn't exist without When I Was Your Man.
Yeah, Tempo says it doesn't want Cyrus to be able to distribute or perform the song. Where's Bruno Mars and all this? Actually, he is not a plaintive in this lawsuit, Robes. I'm confused by this because I thought that was the point. I thought it was understood that it was a response to his song, But now this threw me.
Yeah, so everyone can hear the likeness and knows that she was doing it deliberately. This wasn't like a sneaky, you know, steal here. She was actually very open and talking about how she loved the song and how she put a twist on it, and she was a response to that song. So anyway, I'm going to keep listening to it and running to it and loving it and not being able to get it out of my head today because well, that's what that is. It's an earworm.
That's what they call those songs. But we love them, and we'll keep you updated on the latest on that lawsuit. And finally, on the last leg. If you're morning run, we're going to talk about Amazon. No more working from home for Amazon employees. This is from CEO Andy Jase. He just announced that all workers must now report to the office five days a week, saying it will lead to a more effective, connected, and collaborative environment.
I love this. Actually, the return to office requirement will take effect January of twenty twenty five, just three more months for some folks to enjoy the sweatpants and slippers. I'm looking at you. You are in.
Shorts, I am and a tank top.
Sweatpants and a T shirt. But we'd love to get back to the office. Isn't that ironic?
I was just thinking, like, we are working from home right now, but not because we want to or prefer to. I actually like being in the office. I'm one of those and you're the same way, correct, TJ.
Well, Yeah, when a lot of people do appreciate the being alone, the isolation. It helps with childcare, all kinds of things. But on the flip side of that, it takes away from camaraderie, partnership and collaboration in an office and just human interaction. So this sure sum will follow, but a lot of people out there sign up for a job and say, hey, I can work from home, right They expect that these days, So maybe this will cause a shift and where we were after the pandemic.
That is what a lot of industry insiders believe. This is what we're going to be seeing more and more of. We heard Boeing, JP Morgan. There have been other big companies who have also ups as well, who have made this change back to where we were before the pandemic.
We will see where that takes us. For those of you who like working from home, enjoy it while you can, and we'll lead you with that as we report from Well, we've just moved from the kitchen to the bedroom here in Manhattan, but we want to thank everyone for running with us today.
M
