Episode description

Today America marks Juneteenth with a federal holiday, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. And once again, the values at the heart of Juneteenth – freedom and equality – are in sharp focus in this country, not long after the racist massacre in Buffalo and at a time when inflation is likely to further entrench racial inequality. To reflect on all this, academic and author Carol Anderson joins the program.

Also on today's show: James Jones, director of Cheronbyl: The Lost Tapes; the Jane organization's Heather Booth and Jeanne Galatzer-Levy; actor Angela Lansbury (from the archives).
