Episode description

China’s live fire drills in the Taiwan strait have provided an explosive finale to a dizzying week in global politics. Beijing is making good on its promise that Taipei would pay the price for hosting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this week, a visit that came just after the White House announced the killing of the leader of Al-Qaeda in Kabul. Domestically, the US has undergone several political earthquakes, with the potential revival of President Biden’s climate agenda and the landslide victory for abortion rights in the steadfastly Republican state of Kansas. The New Yorker’s Susan Glasser joins the show to break down this tumultuous week.

Also on today's show: Ron Howard and Raymond Phathanavirangoon, the director and co-producer, respectively, of the new movie Thirteen Lives, which depicts the 2018 rescue of a Thai football team; historian Evan Thomas, author of Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle To Save The World.
