Episode description

Tourette’s Syndrome is a rare disorder of the nervous system involving involuntary movements and sounds that usually affects young boys. But in just the past few years, a massive surge of videos of teen girls displaying “tics” similar to those of people with Tourrette’s has swept across TikTok, but do they really have the disorder? And if they’re not faking it, could we have what’s been called a “mass psychogenic illness” on our hands? Amala looks at what medical professionals and journalists have found while investigating this strange phenomenon and gives her take on what this has to say about social media’s power over our minds.
