Episode description

Trigger Warning: This episode deals with sexual assault.

The transfer or superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United has been hailed as "romantic." For those who are deeply invested in justice for victims of sexual assault - and for the actual victims of sexual assault - it feels more like agony than romance. In this episode I try to explain my thought processes as someone whose two identities are at painful odds.

On the one hand: I am a devout Manchester United fan

On the other: I am a woman committed to seeing and actively bringing about gender justice.

The current irreconcilable differences between these two identities makes me feel compelled to choose between the two.

In between those personal reflections, there is ample space to discuss how rich and powerful men often escape all consequences for their actions. After all, it is not that hard for ordinary men either.

This episode is by no means conclusive but is intended to provide a foundational guide for us to think through internal conflicts of interest.
