Episode description

This episode’s guest is Jason Les, the CEO of Riot Blockchain. Riot is one of the largest publicly traded Bitcoin mining companies in the US.

Utilizing disadvantaged energy located in rural West Texas, Riot is currently building out their Whinstone facility, which when complete will be one of the largest Bitcoin mining sites in the world. When I look at the pictures of Riot’s operations, I can’t help but feel it is a testament to the strength that is being built into the Bitcoin network.

This episode is filled with discussion about Riot’s Whinstone facility and the challenges involved with building out a brownfield bitcoin mining operation.

We talk about the advocacy efforts Riot is working on to help legislators at the national and local levels better understand Bitcoin.

We discuss the technical side of scaled Bitcoin mining and the future of efficiency in mining hardware. Lastly, we talk about how proof-of-work is more than just consuming power, it’s the cumulative amount of human effort involved in building out the most resilient network that has ever been created.

Hope you enjoy the show!
