On my high school team. We have five guys make the NBA. We had the County Rocket gets some meta of basketball. Here are those who come before us, upon whose shoulders we stand. It's nothing that you can do to stop the competitive and that's just in the water. Welcome back to a special Quarantine edition. We got a real special guys. What's up with your Brodie with the virtual handshake. I'm gonna tell you something that I never told no about it. I want to out the smoke.
Welcome back to a special Quarantine edition. All the smoke edition, Hall of Fame Edition. Huh, how are you? I'm good? My why are you? Man? I can't call it? You man, just trying to give the people what they want. That's it, huh, I said, That's how we do. Man. We got a great, great, great great guests. Someone you guys have been asked for since the beginning. You know what he might be. He might have been the most requested since we started the show.
We jeez, he's definitely been the most requested. Yeah. So, I mean, without further ado, we're gonna get into everything. But introduced Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady. Man, Thanks for thanks for spending some time with us, bro Man. Any time, brother, I gotta get in studio with y'all, and he did it. Any time I see t Macata, maybe you gotta do this, Matt, I gotta work on. That's the king. Yeah, and then
I have to mention Hell has you. But then once he jumps and nigger jumps, possibly can on the jump shot, so there's no way you can possibly block. He'll has you and then take off into space and shoot a jump. I appreciate you all boys, man, y'all be the boys for the real ones out there. Man, y'all doing great thing. We appreciate that man than you, no doubt um present day man, I mean, Jack spoke on the fortress you
live in. How are you in the family holding up during these times where it's just you and the family. We're good man, kassa mac my biggest How big is that your Jack? Uh? Well he was he was just saying he low to somebody like they were sitting next to him, and they didn't go walking to the gate of the house and they still sat on the street. Man.
You know what it's Uh. I'm a whole body anyway, man, I love to be home with my family and I have four kids, wife, and uh, it's uh for for me, I tell you, it's it's a great thing for my kids because it's making kids who are very extremely privileged and have everything that they could get their hands on, from toys to uh, you know, four wheelers, anything of entertainment. It's making them revert back to the days when we grew up. They gotta go outside now and be creative.
My kids is riding bikes around the neighborhood, going down to the pond, throwing rocks in the pond. My girls out, My girls out in the driveway, you know, got the chalk and and right and in the in the driveway, they outside with the little uh little pellet gun shooting. Bro. My kids ain't never did that because they were the video games. They just got other other entertainment. But now, Bro, you know, you gotta go outside. You gotta create games.
And that's what that's what we used to do. We are we all in the I'm on five ags, but we out in the yard playing whiffleball. Never what. You gotta be creative, bro, And I love it. That's good. W we spoke on it. I mean, it just really gives you a chance to slow down, even us as adults. I mean you you're still working post career. We get on that hamster wheel, we start rolling, you know what I mean. And as money were, fathers were, you know, some of use of Mary's whatnot. We still have so
many other commitments. But now that we're off that wheel, because all we could really do is nothing. You mean, we kind of take doing nothing, you know what I mean. You find the simplicity and just appreciating the small things that we're in such a hurry for we always miss, no doubt and for everybody. This is affected everybody. So a lot of people are on the go constantly, right
on the go every day. When we were when we have some normalcy, Now that we're in this, you got so much time to think, to strategize, to do whatever it is to create a plan moving forward. Like if you don't come out of this with a new skill, a new new plan to execute for a business or something like that, then you just you lack discipline, bro. Bastill right, Yeah, you like discipline, bro. I mean, we got all the time in the world to to sit back and and and formulate a plan. Mm hmmm, speak
on it. How do you think that the NBA handled the whole situation. I personally thought, like ship got real once we realized that the NBA was gonna postpone the season. What were your thoughts on that. No, we Adam Silver, I think I Leave does the best job when there are crisis. There are situations like this, and we step out front and make sure we take care of our game. We take care of the league and the players, and they do a great job of that. And I was,
you know what, everybody was canceled. You look at the n C Double A. They still playing games. But like I was confused. I thought I thought the Ship was a rerun When I was watching the game in Madison Square Garden when everything has seas and n C Double A is still playing games. Were like, come on, bro, see that's the problem right there. We get Adam and I Leave, get out in front of everything and make sure they take care about players. Mm hmmm, special leading
away obviously. Uh congratulations first and Foremus with your twenty seventeen Hall of Fame. No, well deserved, well deserved that, my boy talk to us about that. Man, I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was, you know, the first to be nominated for it was an incredible thing. I mean, we played a game to win championships, and I never really got that opportunity to win the championship, never been on a championship team. You know, you in our sport or in sports period, you know, you have
that window. And my window that I had was in Orlando teaming up with a Grand Hill. What I was able to do without another All Star in Orlando was I mean, it's phenomena to even make it to the playoffs, you know what I mean. But if I had Grant Hill, I'm playing for a championship, There's no doubt about So that that window for me to when the championship was gone. So I go to Houston and I my thing. But it was a lot of injuries those four years that I put in work in Orlando. It really took a
toll on me. Once I got to Houston. I gave some great years in Houston, but by the time I got to a team where we was gonna be a championship continued team. When we add a run our test, I was done. So I've never had that opportunity. So going through my career and then to get that that nomination for a Hall of Fame. I was like, okay, you know, maybe this is my reward that you know, I'm able to look back on and and be happy
and excited about sitting in my house. They called me on a Thursday and it was like, we're gonna call you Monday to let you know because I was a finalist. It was like, we're gonna call you on Monday and let you know whether you made it or not. At twelve o'clock. So Monday morning rose it around, whold the whoa, whoa? What was Friday and Saturday and Sunday Like, oh bro, It's like I couldn't eat. Man couldn't I couldn't eat. I couldn't eat. I ain't have no appetite, you know
what I mean. Because it was on my mind heavy. I was nervous. I ain't gonna lie. Damn okay, bro right on the dot Monday morning, Monday afternoon, my phone ring and I see cal Ir d and it says Nate Smith Basketball Hall of Fame and honed by myself right, and he was like, I just want to let you know that you made it to the basketball saying, Bro, I'm talking about Overport with emotions just started tearing up.
I was trying to find somebody to call. I was, I was so just emotional distract I'm opening up my phone trying to go to the damn um contact which I'm opening up the weather app. I'm opening up kind of happening. I can't think, Bro, you know what I'm saying. So my wife wasn't there. I wouldn't tell her first, but she was doing the events. So I just started calling people and letting them know, uh, my family, But yeah, man,
it was it was that. That was my championship. You know, y'all, y'all boys sports enough to win championships, man, And I wish I could experience that, but you know, this is my championship. But you were something. I think you're someone due to injury that I think people kind of overlook,
so to speak. Obviously not Motherfucker's who had to guard your ass, but I think the general public doesn't understand how mother fucked like to me during your run, the peer best score in the game, pure best can get you a bucket whenever you wanted t MAC was that because you had no holes in your game? You know, tell me where that where? That complete game who did you watch growing up? Where did that complete package come from for you? So for me, I always was blessed
with talent. Bro I could have This is no bullshit. I could have played Major League baseball. I'm throwing. I could throw a baseball ninety plus my mouse power, I can hit a baseball. I can throw a football on one knee sixty plus yards. Like I was blessed with just like crazy athletic ability. I don't think I could have done anything else in life, you know what I mean? So this, this is what it was. I tell people that if this is this is how you reach greatness.
So this is how people become great is that I was blessed with that talent. So if you take me that never played the game of basketball, and you take somebody that plays the game, works hard every day and they tap out at their potential, I could go and play against that player and stand out not having worked at all, because I was blessed. God give it talent, you know what I'm saying. So for so that player has tapped out and I'm on that level with him, all I gotta do is work my ass off to
elevate way above them. And that's what I did. I just I watched Kobe when we was younger high work and he told me a long time ago, it was like we were seen age. Bro. He was like, why would you play pick up ball? He was like, you ain't gonna get that many shots to pick up game. He was like, work on your skills because we was in Paris. He told me this movie was in Paris on the trip, a Diader's trip. It's like, bro, don't
play pick up ball. Work on your skills. And I promise you that ship is gonna pay off because you go play pick up ball, you're gonna get, you know, a few shots here when you could go and work on your skills every day and put up five thousand shots. And I never and I never played pickup ball, and I worked on my skill, my footwork and everything. Shout out to my boy many Absolutely, we definitely. We we yeah, we want to touch on that and really touch on
some stuff because we know you guys are close. You guys came in pretty much the same time in similar starts to where it took you a couple of years to get your to really get on the court. It took Cold a couple of years to get on the court. But like you kind of said, you guys are both the Didas guys, both young and out of place and really had to lean on each other. Talk to me
more about your guy's relationship. So because we were, you know, both Adada's guys and both made the jump from high school to the pros, it was an opportunity for me to go out there and just be around Code uh in l A. And I went out to l A. I stayed with him in the house with him and his parents. Mom used to fire out that, you know, fried chicken boys and Mcarroony achieved I would eating good at that boy house. Man he had he had chores
and everything. But shut h. He was out there, absolutely, But to be around Cold at nineteen years old, Bro, you would have thought Code had been here before and been around um, you know, the greats of the game. Because his mindset was so different, Bron then I ever experienced that, ever seen anybody at nineteen years old like this man really and truly thought he was better than Michael Jordan, was gonna be better than Michael Jordan's. Thank you to Mac. You know what I'm saying. And at
the time I'm looking at my Dog. I'm like, Bro, you're crazy. It's hell Bro for for anybody's team to take that as a team. I'm like, Bro, something I want you like you're crazy. So we used to watch his home his homegrown movies Come Fly with Me Playground. Used to watch that religiously bro politic. It might do something, Paul remind mimic it. I was like Dog. He was obsessed with this ship, karate flicks. I mean, Man, though
he was different Bro. Going to school, I was like Bro and his work ethic just everything just rubbed off on me. And how he handled himself. Man, Partying wasn't his thing. Like, he wasn't drying to hang out. Nah, you want you're going to the club. Ship, I'm gonna go to the gym. Put up these shots. That's what he was about. He was just he was different. I learned from him, and uh, you know, he struggled his first year. It was Man, the Lakers. The players used
to mess with Coke so bad his first year. Man, he hated it. Bro. And because he took those steps, he went through that fire. I came after. I was able to lean on him times where I felt like I made him mistake of coming out of high school. So I leaned on him all the time, man, and our our relationship started to do like this because he was concentrating on trying to win championships and he sacrificed everything, like he cut everybody off to win championship and be
greatest he possibly can be. Um, And I was over here trying to win scoring titles with this Hall of Fame class. Like I said, with with Cob and KG, who kind of you know, pay the way for for your leap? Uh to Timmy, these guys were all in your same age range and for all of them to go in with this class. But your thoughts in this classes and this is arguably the greatest class of all time thus far. I mean, for sure, you're talking about, you know, one of the greatest shooting guards of all time,
Kobe Bryant. There's no argument he's the most skilled shooting guard of all time. That no argument on that, you know what I mean, ain't no argument on that. And then you're talking about the big fundamental Tim Duncan. I mean, my gosh, bro, but that man was able to do for the franchise. All he know is when Stack you know, you played with him like that's all he do is when and in the big ticket, the big ticket, I think two thousand three, two thousand four, I think that
was man. I was like, this man is all another planet, Bro. The way he was playing, and he was un guardable, unstoppable and was talking ship to talking shit, talking mad ship and he probably to me when I played and seemed like he shot eighty damn percent every game like he was he was unfretartable right defensively, he was a monster, timmy monster, cold monster, Like, yeah, this class is crazy, man, And it was just it was amazing to compete against
those type of dudes. Man, that arguably the greatest at their position. Yeah, with with KG, a lot of people called KG. You know, people call me the heartbeat of the Big Three, but they was called KG the heart and soul of the NBA because the way he played in his pastor for the game. People don't know what how big of a compliment that is, Bro. So for somebody to say you are the heart and soul of the NBA, like that's crazy, bro, KG, Bro, that energy,
like you can't teach that, Bro. You can't teach what he god, this god, you cannot teach that that man was just it was so competitive. It's just so passionate about the game. Dog like. I looked forward to playing against these dudes footing out there trying to guard me, and I was like, didis guys? And we used to go loving that ship man relish those opportunities, especially going against Cold Bro. What that's crazy? All point y'all was
a didis guys? You Code till Man KG? Well, at the time it was just me and because now Code was Cold left, it was so hey, thank you Cod. I think Code so many times Bro. If it wasn't for Code leaving, as I wouldn't have got my big deal.
I would have got I would have got leftovers, my dog, Thank you man with I was next Solo told the pot I moved talks boy, and yeah I got that big bag and still yeah, I told I told you my dog overseas every other month promoting shoes Man still to this day, yeah, still coming out with a brand new path. He sent me to his boy too, so I know that part. That's what tell me we touched
on a little bit KG. What did seeing them jumped to the league, obviously having two different experiences with those guys. But how did that influence your decision for your jumping? Yeah? So, uh, they had a huge impact on me going to the league, and um I was. I was three years in high school in Florida and then I moved to North Carolina because I wasn't even ranked BRO in high school before I moved to North Carolina, and I wanted to. Uh, I needed that notoratory because a lot of guys that
came from my area, they were local heroes. I didn't want to be that, you know. I mean, we all got those people that was the ship in the high school, way more talented than us, but they never really went anywhere. I didn't want to do that, so I had to make that jump. I took the chance to go to a place to put me on that national scene, and I went. I moved to Durham, North Carolina, played on that that that level where we competed all against all
around the country, against the top players. But before I got there, I played against lamar Odom at the Adidas camp. L O was the truth in the high school. I ain't anything. I didn't know anything about him. Being in Florida. When I got to New Jersey, bro that's all I heard. Lamar owed them sixteen point guard. I said, what sixteen point guard? They went on from you six ten. They're gonna make your ass a center, bro, he said, a six temp man. I got to see this dude, bro.
Why he was the first player I played at the camp. I've seen this dude skipping down the court, and I was like, oh nice, I got to get it. I gotta get like, this is my chance. Like I'm not ranked nobody, I'm not even supposed to be here. Bro, I was the last invite to this camp. I'm not even supposed to be here. I got to have it. So I went out there. Bro, I put on the show, my nigga. I left that camp. Bro, I was ranked number one straight. I can't and got that. I came
to get who else was there? Who else is that? You know what? I don't even remember. Hello was just so damn nice. That's all I kept here. Everybody else, huh he. I didn't care about nobody else. Bro him. I need to see him, So you know, I went through that, and then you know, he got the NBA scouts that be at those camps and they started throwing my name out there. I wanted to go to college, but I was going to Kentucky. I took my my visit to Kentucky. You had Derek Anderson was my host.
And I pulled up the Kentucky campus. Bro, and I've seen the boys, got them fully loaded Eddie barers outside. I said, hollow up, Bro, that's where I'm going. Right here. I don't want to go do no more visits. The player lounge where they stayed, everything was rush. I said, Bro, I'm coming. I want no more visits. This's where I'm going. And I'm sitting there my so time goes by and playing my season, my name getting stronger, sitting in my coach office. He was like, uh, I know you want
to go to Kentucky. I know you want to go to college. But after I tell you this, you're don't forget all about that. I'm like, if you tell me what He's like, I got twelve million dollar deal for you. I say, from Real he said, from Adidas. Oh ship, let's sign, I said signed, I say twelve. I say twelve million dollars. Bro. He was like yeah, man, it was like they want of offer you six years twelve million dollars. My college dream went out the window. I
signed for that bad and that was it. Bro, that that was it. And then you know, prior to that, just watching KG Kobe slammed, Dug Champion having some success, It's like, why not, it's basketball. I want to eventually, I want to play against the best in the world and on the highest level. It's just an early entry, let's get it. Who else were you studying back then, like before you got into the league, Like what players were you growing up studying and idolizing? Penny was my dude.
Of course Penny. You couldn't tell me ship about anfrety Penny hardaway. Bro. Yeah, kind of kind of similar. Do you think that's why I were number one? Yeah? That I never knew that, but I know that that's why I was number one. My dog that that was my Michael Jordan bro growing up. Because you don't think he played for the Magic. I grew up thirty miles right down. I watched him every single day, and Bro, Penny Man,
Penny was the truth. Bro. They forget how cold Penny would have been one of the greatest players ends I had injury. Yes, Penny was a killer. So that was my dude. Man, footwork you know passing ability. He was he was cold man. So you decided to make that jump. Tim Duncan goes number one, You go nine, Jack goes second round. Uh forty two. You didn't experience obviously immediate success. You know, you had a lot of wolves. And I remember it was crazy because you're one year older than me.
So I'm in college and my mom was always reading the papers, and I remember she sent me an article on you on how you know you were You're doubting if you made the right decision. You're having just a really hard time transitioning because you weren't playing. You're in Canada. Talk to us and take us back there, because a lot of people don't remember. This is pre social media, you know, unless you have someone following what was going on,
people don't remember how hard the beginning of your career was. Yeah, so you gotta day. You take a kid that's from you know, Central Country boy, take a kid for since Florida, and then you put them up in in in Canada. I ain't know anything about Canada, ain't know nothing about Toronto. Uh. I didn't know the legal age was nineteen years old. Man. So I get to I get to training camp, and I realized, like, this is really my first time playing
against professionals. So we had a little minicamp in Bar Baylors and I'm thinking, you know, I'm eighteen years old. I'm thinking, all right, think professionals. They could do everything, use left hand, right hand, turn left shoulder, turn right shoulder, you know what I mean. They could do it all. They skilled. Bro. I started seeing some dudes out there like, really, he can't do he can't use his left hand, he can't go lest, he can't go right, he can't shoot
over his left shoulder. I started, I mean, because I know the game, and I just I was shocked. Bro. I was like, oh my god, I know what I gotta work on. But then we get to the season. I'm working like crazy. My coach ain't feeling me at oh, bro Man. The time Daryl Walker and the reason I think Darryl Walser got that job. I don't know if y'all remember when the Pistons played Utah and Isaiah Thomas went up for a layup and Carl Malone a cross
his head and gave him like twenty five stitches or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah, man, he fucked Zeke up. Bro. He came off the bench and went at uh. He came up the bench without calling when I had a dog. So you know they were boys. But dude wasn't feeling me. Man. I remember, I'm pumped. We're playing against the magic. Don't playing against my dog? Right, I get in the game, Bro, I'm excited his head. I'm guarding Penny. I get it still, Bro, I go down. I'm women. I'm trying. I'm trying to
put on the show. I women next dadball, Bro, what you're doing? What? Bro? Took me the game? Bro for showing off. It's like he was fucking with me like that. You know what I'm saying that that ship was getting in my head, Bro, So that's times that I was reaching out the code, like, Bro, what did you do? He was like, Man, just stay within yourself confidence and keep working. Bro. He was like, I promise you You'll get through the ship. So that's what I'm doing. I
just kept working. And man, who helped me out the most was that Damn Doug Christie. Bro. I played Doug Christie Man. Shout shout out Christie. Bro. I love Doug. I played Doug one on one every day. We were just going at each other man, and and that's how I was working on my one on one game and building my confidence up because I know he was a great defender, Like he was a hell of defender, and to go up against him every day, I'll be ready
for whatever. So I just started, you know, playing against him, building that confidence up, and we got buddy up out of there by all start breaking, got him up out of there. Butcher card and took over and ship My game went like that. Man, I ain't looked back. So that was what that year two or year that was? Okay, first year, mm hmm, that's what suck. Crazy. So Vince Carter comes in town, your second year comes and takes the league by storm. That's was that a rumor? Is
that real life? Your cousin now we're cousins, grandmothers, grandmothers are related. Okay to jump at as motherfucker was like, that's that's next level you did that. That's next level jumping ability right there. And what this man used to do, I mean he sat you. You played against the high school, y'all played against the high school. No, but I've seen him, I've seen him live in high school one So before I knew we were cousins. I played on junior team
Florida and he was on the other older team. He played before me. I played before him and when Florida. So yeah, this is this is before I knew we was related. I'll play first, and then I see him and sitting and watch Bro. I Man, I ain't know a human conjunct like this. Bro, this man was going up palm and the ball looking in the basket and was just dropping it like that. He was going up. Then they're touching the backboard and just dropping the ball
like this. I'm like, oh my god. Skilled. Crazy. So I had a good relationship with our coach. I was like, Bro, we gotta get Vince Carter. Bro. We got a good and he was the most skilled. And to have us too as two wings at that time, mean, it was crazy what we could accomplish along with the Vets what we had, and we drafted Vince Man. Vince came in there and uh, the ship he was doing was just unbelievable.
For that women. He did baseline against Indiana on Oh my god, Oh my god, that man, he had us jump. He had jumping out of our seats. We were fans, so I could only imagine how some of the dudes felt that playing against me and some of the ship. I was. I was a fan. I know that was my cousin, my teammate, goddamn, and I was a fan. Bro. He was incredible. That ship was incredible to see what he was doing. Then, hey, Ben Bence handles was Ben's
handle was so underrated. Ben had the handle. People didn't know he had some quick stuff with his handle, but he had handled dog and it was always under control where he hit you with something, but it was in control where I know we can get that one to it if one too, that's your as you He had the big as hands, Bro. He was the big as hands. He love it and once he got control of it, it was it was no block in this shot because he's Elevan. He was then there looking at his balls
when he got damn St. Paul's. But yo, man, crazy just peer skilled people to I got a chance to play with him later when he was in Orlando, uh you know, not later, but in Orlando probably two thousand nine. But just peer, just regular form shooting jump shot from half queer. But when y'all bushed the ass in the first round, of playoffs, Matt, when we beat the Brakes off, y'all shooting left headed just like you shoot right right,
just peer man. Vince was motherfucking's absolutely so so. And Vince helped a lot as well because he reached that startom extremely quick. So I was able to sit back and watch how he handled himself, you know, reach and startom, and it helped me when I reached my potential and was able to, you know, being be that type of player. But yeah, he was incredible. Man. How come you guys
never got to take off? For how how how big could you guys have been if you would have been able to hit your stride at the same time with with Toronto, we would have played for a championship. I mean, we would have faced the Lakers if I would have stayed, no doubt about that. But there was so much stuff going on in Toronto with the organization, there was no way I could have stayed. And then I mean I got the opportunity to You're competing against you know, Orlando
where I'm from. That's that's that's tough. How was it like planning against m j r? Rookie shaking in my boots, shaking up shaking in the first time I had to guard. I'm like, yo, this man. First of all, let me go back seven MJ them in the playoffs. I think they played against the Hawks, right, I'm at the game playoff game, Bro, I got an opportunity to go uh in the back by the locker room after the game.
So I'm standing back there. I'm seventeen years old, kid, I've never been around NBA players like this or even you know, I've never been around somebody like m J. I'm standing back their kid and pitcom out. All these players started coming out. Mike comes around that corner. Bro, I ain't gonna lot to you. Man had to blow Bro. I swear my my dog, that seat is real. KG said the same thing. You just feel his energy. I'm not I'm not joking. Mike came out of like, damn, Bro,
I ain't know what to say. Man. I was like m dog as m J. So fast forward. I'm on the court with him for my rookie year. It took me about the quarter to get over the fact that this Mike right. But man, once once it walked, you know that that mystique wears off if you around somebody for a long tipe wears off, like, Okay, ship, let's get it. I damn that had my best game as a rookie, play against almost had a triple double m hm in front of thirty thousand. You know we played
in the sky Doom thirty thousand. Mike had him coming in there, Bro, and that was a year they had what he was one of them teen? Yeah, you ain Mike both had good games. That game might have about thirty five. He probably had boy twelve on me easy. I'm like, man, this Mike Bro. I had to get his ass back when he was with the Wizards. Though. Yeah, y'all ask thirty eight years old, you're putting up fifty. You still got game, but you gotta get this work.
You gotta get this ship. With Jordan's going down, overtiring it, usherings and usherings a new era of wings yourself, Kobe, Vince, Paul, Pierce Grant before his injury, what was that new era? Like you you touched on you know the end of Jordan's era and now we have a whole do different type of wings. Tell me what that era of wing
game was like? Man, you had a challenge every night, Bro, I mean you're talking about some of the greats that ever played the game, all right, man, Paul Cold, Vince AI, Oh Ship, Big Dog, Ray Allen Man, Reggie Miller was still getting buckets stacked Ship. You used to get buckets too, getting buckets, but man, it was it was dog. It was a challenge, Brol You really had to bring that game.
It wasn't no bullshitting around like you're talking about some killers, man, some real killers that every night you don't get your wrest or, if you ain't locked in, you're gonna get embarrassed night. Man. I'm talking about you guys right there. They since any weakness or any any type of fear, they're gonna damn tell your damn head off. And I didn't want to be that. I had to make sure one of my best videos it is not it's it says Tracy McGrady visit Stephen Jackson highlights, Right, you gotta
go check this out. So it's how it supposed to be highlights for me and Tracy, right, going, head up. If you watch the video, it showed about Tracy points about six about six when you when you was with that Latta, yeah, yeah, yeah, that show about to show about six of my year. That's probably how the game win. That's probably out the game when I hated guarding you, Bro, because I can never block your shot. I don't know how to hell you shoot the ball like that. We
didn't say that ship can never block your shot. See if he said the same thing. Look, Matt always taking some cheap shots and ship out like he man, we have to get aggressive with your especially cause you of someone like I said at the beginning the show, like you have to hang you, which is unfair because as soon as you go for that, you go buy some duncan.
But if you actually shot, there was no way a hell to block your shot because you jumped like three ft off the ground just to get your jumper off. So we have to try to beat you up. Ain't no other choice. You gotta you gotta go and tell you gotta go and tell everybody the famous hand dribble move that you that you started. Please tell everybody what Kobe you got it from. No they know, they know, man. Look, oh that was my goal to bro. Cole was a student of the game. I was a student of the game.
Whatever it takes to get better, I'm gonna take that. You know what, I'm saying, like, yeah, I took some of that, Like, hey, that's how you become great, man. You you you gotta watch other people and take this some pieces of that game. That's just that's just how it is. Man. You'll be a fool not to you know what I'm saying. And that's and that's what I did that hae double that was just my thing. Bro six nine Laura ass and sleep and just rise up over.
I don't think you could do anything about that. You know, you know what takes you know what uses that now to perfection. Katie Campaul, George kad though k He's deadly with it, deadly with it. Bro's it's star, especially when you got quickness, you got that ball on a string like that, you got a Jimmy hey man, it's none you could do, Bro, then you can do with it. Nah.
So you're traded from Toronto to Orlando, Grant him, traded from Detroit to Orlando, Grant Hill to me along with Penny Hardway, Like you mentioned, healthy, Grant Hill would have been top ten all time as well. Great is one of the greatest players. Was a killer similar to yourself, silent about it, just went about his busines this. You guys joined forces in your hometown. Talk to us about that. Man, I knew because it was me. I don't even want
to do that order me. First, it was Timmy Grant, and then myself, like every trying to get all three of us because people forgot that. Tim almost Tim almost went there. He spoke like that a little bit too. He almost left. But I just found this out later that the reason he didn't come, it's because doctor hit my guests. The spouses couldn't fly on the plane. That was a deal breaker. If that was the deal breaker, that's what I found out about. Cried when I found
that and that and that's a true story. Dog, that was the deal breaker. I heard that same story. Man I got, I got. I gotta pulled a doctor's side on that one. Bro. But but you know it's me and Grant, Me and Grant Eastern Conference. I'm excited. And I knew Grant had broke his ankle because I was watching him in in the Miami series when he was getting buckets against him. He was still playing on it, but I thought he was going to heal from it.
But we was there for four years and I think we only played forty seven games with each other, and it was just it was so sad, man, because I knew how bad he wanted to be out there, and I knew the potential that we could possibly have reached, but it just didn't happen. And and then he got he was having search going to bankle and and uh ship got infected and yeah, I almost lost his leg. Man. It was just it was a bad time for him, man. And I'm still trying to do when I'm able to do.
I mean, it actually gave me an opportunity to really, uh come into my own quickly. Then, you know, I really wanted to. I wanted to learn behind him, follow his league. I mean, Grant the truest professional that you've ever come across, absolutely, you know what I mean, and the smartest hell yeah, smartest hell man. It was just some unfortunately for both of us. Really for team Yeah, Graham somebody who you know, people always acting who I looked at coming up, and Graham was one of the
guys I've padded my game after to this day. I talked to him to get a lot of advice from him, and then you know, and conversate with him, buy a lot of things but when your fourth year in your league team Mac, you went from fifteen points to twenty six, Like that was a defining year from you, Like what what clicked that year? Well, it's just the work man. It was the work um that I put in. And you really know who you are in the league your third or fourth year, you know who he's gonna being. Ship.
That was just my time. Like I said, Grant going down, I had to speed up my process. I had to speed up um my bill to carry a team. You know, I kind of would have been in the back burner learning from him, let him do his thing, learning from him, still chipping in and and and you know, my game growing, but it had to grow like at a rapid rate because he was he was down, and they threw me the keys and that was it. It was just it was me, No all the all stars. It was just
me with with some great role players. But you never really experienced too much success there. You know, obviously a lot of individual accolades. Personally, you know, like I said, that's when you really define who you were as as a bona fide superstar. What did you learn from that experience that that it was? You know, like you said you. It was you and role players. What was that psychology like? Because superstars are look you know, looked at to get
their team to that next level. So what did you learn from that experience in Orlando? Ship that you needed? You need help? He said, Look kind of did everything like a motherfucker. Dude. What else you want me talking about? Was going on against you? Look at that Detroit team, he was the number one seed, tough defensive team. You look at the Milwaukee team. I played in the playoffs with Sam Ray, and you see what I'm saying. You try to go up against him and you ain't got
no other potential All Star on your team. Man, Listen, you stack, you won the championship. You played with Tim Duncan, Monu, Tony, Tony Parker, all stuff, Matt, you won a championship? How many All Stars you played with? Four? Four? Right? Do That's tough? Bro? I don't give it that. How great you are, listen, man, Kobe's to me is the greatest of our error. Bro. When shot left he found that how hard it was. But I don't care how great
you are individually. If you ain't got no other dogs with you, man, you can forget about it, bro, you ain't gonna win in this league. You know what I'm saying, You're not gonna win. That's just what it is. And that's what I learned. I was like, Man, I'm getting burnt out. I'm doing what I can. I gotta. I'm competing against teams that are you know, voted with these these all stars and then they got great role players. Hey, man, I can only I can only win you a few games.
Man Ship, I'm trying to win it serious, I'm trying to people keep keeping getting Tim had David Robinson to man, you gotta have a team. You gotta have a great players to win. I don't even then. That's just what it is. So two thousand and four, you traded to Houston for Steve Franciscatino, Mobli can get a chance to team up with Big Yao and uh Jeff Van Gundy.
You win fifty one games first season. Tell me what that experience was, like, Oh yeah, that was I mean the minute I got traded there, I had a conversation with Jeff rank Gunning. So mine you I'm just coming off of NBA scoring title two years in a row. So I get I get to uh Houston, And the first thing he telled me, he was like, you're not gonna leave the league in scoring. Yeah, I'm like, not like,
welcome to Houston, welcome to the team. Like, uh, I'm just gonna tell you're not gonna leave the league in scoring. I'm like, damn, well, what's gonna happen. So it was basically just like, you know, we got a seven five seven six dude that you know we gotta get the ball to. We're gonna play inside out. I never played with a big dude, so it was an adjustment for me to play with a big guy. The pace was slore. I mean, I had to change my whole game on how I went about it. Um, there was a struggle
in the beginning. I'm not even gonna lie. It was a struggle to him. When I got a fast break, I gotta slow that thing down. Let the big fella catch up, get to the post, all right, he cut you know what I'm saying. And it was it was challenging. But then we started. He knew we had to start to put the pieces around myself and Yal and then once we did that, we started winning some ball game.
But you know, yeah, it was It was challenging playing with a big fella at times, but once we got it, Once we figured it out, man, I mean ship were great together. Y'all was a deadly colmbo. We played you and Golden State, and remember how I had to go out, y'all. Yeah, we used to. We used to try to kill Al whoever was because I was I'll played that small ball who ever whoever was guarding y'all. They was gonna have
a long knight because we were gonna feed. I didn't care about scoring that hit, big fellow, You're going to work to night because there was nothing y'all can do with it. Y'all have double used to body was sucked up. I wouldn't even want to play in those games. I would get piste off because that was a kind of net least to funk with Al. So he would starting randomly, but he always started up against y'all, and Al used
to hate that ship. He did started then you can't go on, man, what what what was gonna do with that big fellow man? And he had left hand, he had right hand. You know about that, bro and the crazy shot we would have. We would have faced you all in the playoffs. That year, if we had if we had the um, yea, we was preparing to run y'all motherfucker's asses out the gym too, because I thought we had finally clipped, we had finally got our chemistry.
So we're like, fuck it, we can't guard y'all, but there's no way he guarding all of our picking rolls and are We wanted to rock. We wanted to do what I'm saying, we play. Everybody wanted us if you could play small This is what I'm saying. Everybody wanted to play against us because in the place, if you could go small ball, it was tougher because y'all had somebody you know what I'm saying, Yeah, made it tough.
And Avery Johnson figured that out, and we had y'all guard Marquees Daniels and Josh Jot Howard Bro you know what I'm saying. He can't and he can't guard Dirk no way. How talented was y'all because it was he had a quick career. Um, you got a chance to play with him for a good chunk of it. For his size, How skilled was he? Bro? He was extremely skilled. Like I said, left hand, right hand. I felt sorry for him at times, because Thibodeaux had y'all working so
damn hard before every game. Man, I'm like, bro, he's gonna wear down like he was killing y'all before the game. He was putting in that work. But highly skilled I'm talking about, can dribble the ball, can make the right passes, not just you know, making a pass anyway, passing on target for were you to get in your shot. He sees the floor well, left hand right here, and he shot eighty plus percent from the damn file line. He
had it, Bro, he had he was highly skilled. One of them is probably most skilled big man at you know, I can remember the Yeah, he had the whole package. Yeah. And then obviously combining with him obviously has helped your success over uh in China, you know, gett a chance to play next to him, and then being running Mason stores together elevated it elevated it because what a lot of people don't know. When I was with the Magic, I had the number one selling jersey in China. Steve
Jackson knew that. Yeah. Yeah, So being with y'all, I mean, man, it's obviously elevated. You know my brand we played, UH, I don't know, if y'all remember the kid Ye Jillian or ye whatever played the next war. Yeah, so he played. It was a it was a night we played them. He was with Milwaukee. Oh don't you know over two people watched that game because of him, and y'all, Like I mean to million bro watched that game because of
the two boys right there. So I mean it. It elevated everybody's brand that was a part of the Rockets organization, not just mine, and elevated everybody. So over the next four seasons, man, this is when your body somewhat starts, you know, the injury start piling on back, elbow, knees, You're you're you're sent to New York in uh in two thousand and two ten. Talk to us about that injury process, because, like you said, you were sucked. You
were led the league in scoring. Like I said, you were one of the most gifted scores I've ever seen. Blessed to get a chance to play against you, But just from a fans perspective, it was so effortless with you. So when you're facing these fucking injuries where you can't go out and be Tracy McGrady, what is that like mentally? It was tough because I remember, um, I think it was two thousand and eight when the playoffs against Utah. Y'all is out. He got hurt that year, that same
year that we had the two game win Street. So that season wearing Utah, I'm sitting down in my on my couch. We get to the hotels, sitting down on the couch, I went to prop my leg up and sit it on the footstool. My leg wouldn't extend out. I was trying hardest hell, and I was like, oh my god, bro, what the hell? I knew something was wrong. So I went through that season. We play Utah in
the playoffs. We're losing six games. That that six, that game six that we lost, I have forty every every every game, I had to get a shot at my knee. I couldn't play. So I got a shot at my knee after the game, draining all that fluid needle like this, you know what I mean, draining all that fluid out. So I'm thinking, all right, you know, I just gotta get get my knee cleaned out and then we'll be good. Man, go have shot the surgery. We got run our tests.
I'm like, bro, we bought Chip at least compete for once. This this is what I've been waiting on. I got run our tests, I got shamed at here, I got skilled myself. Y'all, we got we got some of these young players that have had a half matured. Are we ready for it? Go through the season. I ain't right, I'm on one leg. I'm still trying to play. I'm on one leg. Bro I can't. I'm scared to even jump off of my left leg. Everything was right leg. So when so we're in Milwaukee, I get a I
get a break. Coming down on break, somebody has chasing me, so I want to go up on the other side of the rim and try to dunk it. I got hum embarrassed myself at that point. I'm like, I am not playing another game until I find out what's going on with my knee. We get to the locker room, you know, rape for Austin. Rap forgot to sence Kuma like he like skill no matter what type of moment it is. Skiff got to throw in the joke, right,
he had to throw in the joke. So he started making jokes about ship rowing mad man, Like, yo, man, that ship ain't funny. Yeah, I'm said it ain't funny right. Well, anyways, after that, I shut it down, man, and I went to see a few doctors and they told me, Bro, I got some bad news. You ain't got no more cartlage in your knee. I don't even know why you were playing who up? Cartlage is done. I'm like, okay, I don't know what that means. We gotta have another surgery.
He was like, yeah, you gotta have surgery. But you that have microshopper surgery and Killa Martin Starter. I knew what it had did for them, yo, man, which they ain't good. At that point, I realized, Bro, at that point when that man told my doctors told me that that I had to have office stop surgery, I mean micro factor surgery, micro factor surgery, it was over. I knew. I knew I wasn't gonna be that dude again. And
that was the most devastating thing. I mean, I can't even tell you how depressed I was to know that I'm on this level and then I'm I'm down here now and I never never reached that level again. Bro. I was hurt, and on top of that, to ask you to the fire my playoffs. Struggles is in the past. You was bothered me, and then I got an opportunity to have success now with the team that we have, and I'm not able to be out there with them. Yeah,
it just it crushed me. Bro. So I'm sitting back in Chicago is where I had my surgery, and I'm watching my team compete against Portland's. They beat Portland's. Y'all gets hurt. We play the Lakers the next round, second round, we played the Lakers. Y'all gets hurt. They take the Lakers to seven games without doing without y'all. Come on, come on, Bro, you know I devastated. I was. I was out of that, man, I was out of that. Bro,
that it hurt me, I can imagine. And then you're going through all that and you and you're watching your peers, You're watching Code, when you're watching Dunk and you watching Peers, you're watching Dirk. They all get championships. You know what I'm saying, Why and why are you sitting there trying to get back to that level to play? What was that feeling like, Bro? I knew that was devastated. It
was extremely devastated because I was on that level. Boys, winning championship and KG goes to Boston win a chip for a ship. I'm like, man, because because before that, KG was like he was he was having playoff struggles in Minnesota until he got until he got Sam them Sales and s Fretwell and the boys, like until he got dogs over there with him. He was able to make it to the Western Conference finals. But prior to that, man,
it was like it was tough on him. And then he got out of Minnesota and got with some got some dogs in Boston, won that chip. Like this, Timing is everything, bro and and and that time and for me was just that. That's why making into the Hall of Fame like everything, it's everything to miss because I looked back on the ship that I went to struggles, Yeah, man, it was everything. We try to give people a perspective
not knowing obviously that's devastating career news life. You know, this is what we work out our whole life, But what is life like off the court? You know what I mean, in your day to day with your family and friends. People don't understand, like how this is our life. We've trained our whole entire life through this. And then you like you said you were the upper level. You were on your way, so to have to deal with it on the court. But what was like life off
the court going through that struggle? Yeah, I was the injury struggle. I was depressed, Bro, I've never been depressed in my life. I was depressed, man. Um. I was in Chicago doing my rehab and I had to lay in my bed for eight hours with my leg and the machine for eight weeks. It was having the blood circulated. Yeah, it was moving my leg back and forth and get that blood to flow at my knee. You're talking about depressing at those times. And then I'm watching my boys
and TV compete without me. I'm hearing I was messed up. Never been in that situation. It was all that, you know, great thing about it, um, My kids once the summer came, because this happened in February when I had my surgery, and then once my kids got out of school, they all my family came to Chicago and that really helped me get through it. But I was up there by myself and it was I was I was out of there. Bro. I was like, man, after this game, I don't even
want to play them. More like mentally, I was rejected from the game. Well, it seems like you gotta think. I mean, you have the world screaming your name one second, cheering for you, t Mac, this team ack that I got my own shoe on this, on that and then and like this, you're all by yourself in the dark room in Chicago when nobody to turn to Gone Gone. You know what I mean? You went from m v P chants twenty thousand people entertaining after at the highest
level and I can't even reach that level. And who I don't get no chance. I turned. I mean, it went from Tea back to Tracy. I you know what I know yout Tracy back no more. But but this go this go to your credit from making the Hall of Fame, even though you went through all the injuries and everything. As far as us and the people that's over the game and watch the game, we knew what it was. We know what it was, we knew what it should have been, and we know and we know
how injuries happened in the game. But everybody know when they come down to it, you Brandon Row and another another another other got Grand Hill. Guys that wouldn't have been hurt. We already know what y'all would have been going down. And yeah, when it's all said and done, yeah, I'll deserved that Hall of fame. No, y'all deserved that. You know what that that's really all that matter is that your appears understanding. They respect what we brought to
the table. That's all that matter. You know what I mean, y'all had to face me, you know all them nights. I mean like, that's the respect. That's the that's the only thing that matters to me, is that I got y'all respect, no good, no question, no question. Well, this is where you're in Jack's past cross in a different way two thousand thirteen. I'm gonna let Jack address this because I don't even know if he knows how he was on the plane when already knows. Oh no, no, no,
we talked about that. We talked about man. Listen, listen, pay on Jack. Picture this, so picture of this picture this. I'm in the room. I'm in this. I'm in the locker room, in the film room, actually having my best practice of the year. Just but they asked a practice and Papa's telling me that he's gonna bring the team that for me to give Danny Green and a genoby confidence. He wants me to say they're better than me. And in the time he's during the time he's asked me
to say this team MAC is already in the air. Okay, he already in the plane. He alre on the plane on the way to side of time. And so Pop already knew Pop, you know, damn well, I'm not gonna say. I'm not gonna say Jordan's I can't believe he tried like that though. But but listen, hey, you know why because Pop is one of the smartest people. He knew what my reply was gonna be before he asked me that. That's why he was already on the plane. He knew I was going to walk out. He knew he knew
he was gonna cut yourself. He knew I was gonna make it worse man. He knew I was gonna to the walk out. So let me tell you how that went out, right, So I remember remember that vividly, Like I got out of church and I checked my phone and there was a miscall from Pop. Mind you, I just been on my couch for two months because I just got that. So I'm gonna back up a little bit. So once I was done with the league, right I
went to China. I had to get a feeling back because I know if I go to China, I'm gonna get that love back, that passion back, because I know they're gonna bring it out of me right and they support you. I want to be I want to be celebrated again. Want to see how that feels. Because I had to work my ass off to get back healthy like I had. I worked so hard to get back healthy. It took me like a year and a half, two years before I was even paying free after that surgery.
So I go to China for four months playing the older you at this point, not to cut you off, tea, how old are you at this point? And I think I'm thirty two, yeah, yeah, thirty two yeah. So I go over there for four months, sold the whole cd A out, sold it out, and come back home. I'm home for two months, not working out, just chilling with the fans. I come out of church miss phone call for Pop. I called him Pop, what's going on? It's like, hey,
h I got some guys that are injured. You know, this is like getting your information, like your girlfriend was sucking with somebody else. Type information right down. He say, I got some guys that were injured. I need another body. I needed to come down. I was like, Pop, I haven't done anything for two months. Bro. It's like, don't worry about that. We'll get you in shape. So I drive down. I didn't fly st because you know, I'm right here in Houston. So I robed to San Antonio.
It's the last game of the season. I get there. It's like, Yo, It's like, I can't promise you that you're gonna play any minutes, but you know, we'll see how it goes. Out of respect because it was Pop, That's the only reason I went down there. But I was I was done with basketball, Bro, I was mentally done, but I respect I went down there. If I get there, I'm working playing one on one against boards dal that skilled motherfucker man dog boars d out is So I
don't know that most big, slippery motherfucker. I don't care. Boys, dial to Bro. He still is a problem, the most skilled person in the job. Yes, so, Bro, So I'm playing, you know, one on one against them boys, getting in shape, playoffs, roll around. We'll played against the Lakers. Got in a little bit point guard against the Lakers. Then we play against I think it was Golden State, and uh, Pop came to me. He was like, I don't want you
chasing these boys around. He was like, you know, we make it to the next round, which was Memphis, because like be ready. I was like, man, I'm ready. First of all, it was disrespectful to me that you come to me talking about you don't want me chasing these boys around, as if I can't play the game. You know what I mean. I may have slowed down a little bit, but I still know how to play the game, so you can thank you. Yeah. I was like, okay, I don't want to cause no scene. Hey, I'm going
on for the ride. So we get we get to the Western Conference Finals. We play against the Grizzlies. Tam me on the bus like you ready. I was like, Bro, I've been waiting for this my whole career. What you're talking about? Yeah, I'm ready. Don't see the court I see them minute. Bro. I'm sitting there like, damn this. I can't say nothing that you know, you know when you know what I'm saying, you can't say nothing. That's when I was out of there because I was saying yourself.
I am crazy. I am no more. I can't say nothing. I can't say nothing. I gotta sit there, like Bro, we get to the finals. Man, sat when I tell you, the media was talking to me every day like I was a star Bro, like they was coming to me day. So I'm like, man, just let me say the right thing so I could possibly get some burns something. You keep on working. I'm working crazy right. Game one, get there,
no minutes, gain't too pop walking up and down. I'm looking at him just like this because he's trying to find somebody to put in. I'm making eye contact with that this. I'm like, I'm showing it. I see I'm talking about there's about two minutes left for the game Bro game over where we're about two. He gonna put me into game. I was like, I gotta eat this so we get the game six, the five and six. I'm sitting there. Mommy's struggling. I want to raise my head.
I've been struggling all year. I've been struggling all year. That year they struggling Tony out here about the die because le Bro and on him. He tied his head and we got another playmaker. I'm like come on, Bro, I'm waiting. I've been waiting on this moment, this this flyve on and it ain't s re court at all. Bro lost Game seven, flyback, flyback to UH to San Antonio, I think popping. I was back in UH in Houston next day, like I wasn't even gonna go to the parade, man,
and nothing. I left. I left him UH two days later and I flew to China when it got a bad man. That's respect that I had to go down there. But you know, it was a great experience. It was that culture is is crazy. It's unbelievable how they do things down there. Man, I've never seen anything like flying back home from the games every night. You got thousands of fans out there. Yeah, it was. It was a crazy experience. Man. I loved every every bit of it.
But I wish I would have got some burned though, because I could have. I could have helped the voice. It came down to one rebound team Mac. It came down to one rebound and Timmy wasn't in the game. And tim wasn't in the game. But I mean, listen, if they would have won that championship. I know I was on the team. I'm a competitive bro. I can't. I can't go through that journey and have satisfaction with
with that. You know what I'm saying. It would have been cool to them to get that ring, but I it was hard for me to even even accept if we had won that. I gotta go through the journey that. The journey is what makes that fulfilling. You know what I'm saying. You gotta go through that by them. But it would have been good to have in your house, though, team would have been good to have by all those other wards. It's been good to been sitting there, shine
and looking real good in that box. Baby. It would have been good in the house. But not No, But Mac, I feel you, not even obviously I wasn't a standpoint to who you were, but the culmination of my career. When people say you want to ring, I don't count that for the exact same reason you said. I was playing good leading up. I came in when Katie went down, played consistent five minutes the game. Katie comes back. I get hurt maybe a week before the playoffs, and I'm
out of it. The worst ankle spray in my life. I'm not healthy until the end of the second round where they're already eight and O. So me being event no, and they're not gonna change the rotation. I don't expect on the chain of rotation. I'm just gonna sit here and be a super vet and cheer these motherfucker's on, talk to people when they need to be talking to and just enjoy the ride. So the fact so I'm gonna kind of another We did win it, but I feel it's it's amazing to hear you say, because I
don't count that ring. That ring is still in shout out, shout out Raymond Rittard, the best media dude mogul for the Golden State Ward. That thing is sitting in his office, Like I don't I don't count that as a championship, bro, I don't want hold on hold on raising office right now. Yeah, because I got the best part about it was the twins got to enjoy the ride. So the twins were from you couldn't tell my motherfucking kids. They weren't on the court. They were right up there with Steph and
Katie trying to grab the trophies and all. Yeah, and so they got the boys there alway for life. That was the absolute best part. And I think you know K D, Steph dre Clay, the organ I got a free ride, I got a free ring. So that's when they say NBA champ. I don't count myself as an NBA chair for the exact same reason you said, like the journey is what makes you want to say, like, yeah, I helped, I didn't sweat. I didn't. I wasn't in
the motherfucking dogholes these dudes. I didn't get to guard Lebron and none of these other Kauais, So I didn't count my ship. So I feel you. It's it's interesting to hear you say that. That's how I feel the we competitors, Bro, we want to go straight up, you know what I'm saying. We want to go. I want to go through that motion, ride through the season, and and and and then get rewarded, you know, for what we've been through. I don't just want that ship to
bend me without no man, I don't mean nothing. I don't mean nothing like that. Take take me back to when you was in Photius. What happened to you and you and Skip Bro? When shot came and knocked the dog, Remember that he had like hit kid. He had threw a he had threw a dirty shot at mean, like like swung in, like hit me in the nuts of time down before. So I came down and try to try to head set a hardass screen on him because me and Skipper Cool he was Fresno State, My AU
team was Fresno. I've been looking at the skip for a long time. But he he you know, he liked to talk ship and he had hit me in the nuts one time. So I came down and just trying to clean his ass out. So but if you look back on that, Steve Nash got drugged and shock pushed a whole two teams down on one push. So I'm coming down. I'm coming down the court right on the right side, and I think was coming over to set a screen. I'm looking at y'all ran through. What the hell?
So I wrote? I rise up, hit the three and all hell breaks through. I was looking at y'all too, I'm trying to go and break it up. Steve Nash coming there. I pushed the ship out of Steve. They stay, you know, I'm falling on top of y'all. I'm like, who the hell? I look back, big Feller, He cleared everybody. Broke act pushed everybody. You can say what you want. Motherfucker's don't understand how strong he that big motherfucker is. Man, I learned. Man, it was a long time Shot was
going up. I came over to try to smack down on him. The foulon about broke my goddamn oh bro, that was the last time I ever tried to come down on shot like that. Get about and forearms about that big bro, that big dog, that ship right man? Who was the one matchup you look forward to every night? I know there's a lot in your area, but who was the one like tonight, We're going at it tonight. I mean obviously you know it was cold. It's number
one on my list, you know what I'm saying. Of course, I give you some other ones that I look forward to that was tough. I'm gonna give you some. I'm gonna give you a couple of guys that for me, people don't think they were tough to guard. That got down Contino, Mobley bro Quick first step bro. I hated
playing the quickest. I hated. I hated playing against Contino Moble Broge Stock of bch hated playing against page stock of the back to Jack's he couldn't do nothing with it, Bro wet Ball and another one that got the Doren Jamal Mash Firm Man Man Monster Man Master Mash was a mash Bird. He was a killer, yes sir, yes sir. He killing in the business world too right now and stuff.
Yeah yeah kill. But that Contino Mobley Bro. I like again, it's funny because you can still see Cat Gray bearded out in the motherfucker Drew Lee playing against young twenty year olds killing, yeah, still killing, killing, and they're still doing this thing. And Big Three that motherfucker had game. Bro yea man, but you know when I'm your boys came along, you know, obviously broad and mellow. I love going up against them boys and the Wade m favorite teammate,
favorite teammate team. Man. I would like to do that, Bro, because I played with I played with some great guys. Man, I don't like this single one guy out. I mean I had some great teammates. When I was I named eight m I got eight. Yeah, I can't name just one. But Man, when I was in Toronto, Bro nineteen years old and I'm surrounded by Antonio Davis Muggsy Bowls, Deep Brown, Dale Curry, Charles Oakley, Kevin Willis Man. Yeah, that dog and and don't plane rides and the bus rides with
Charles Oakley. Yes, I've been on something. I'm still a teenager with this dude. Can't keep in mind. Hey, I'm still a teenager with this dude. He puts man, he puts fears to me. Bro again legal age in Surrounto is ninety years old. Yes, I don't drink. We all at the club right, hanging out, all of us. He trying to get me to drink, like, Bro, I don't drink. He already lit he on. Hey punched me on my chest? So hard? Are you bullshit? I'll damn bro no, big gass,
heavy hands too hands bro Oh he hit me. Hey. I eased away from the crowd. I went on the other side of the club, and the whole night I was watching him. If he came out away, I'm going around like I stayed away. Was a different dude. I love him like he took care of me and Ben on the court like he was. He had mentality. You fold one of our boys, you got one of y'alls, like he was that type to dud Bro. We used to go shoot around. We had to shoot around at
ten o'clock. Yo, ask better be off that court at ten o'clock because you're still on the court. He going to the ball rack coaches and all. He's slaying all the basketballs at the team. He ain't get him dead? Are you not? The players? At everybody here? At everybody bro, coaches players, He ain't care. Bro. Oh, it was different. So I ain't gonna say I gotta tell you. I gotta tell you all this story like Oak was a different dude. I'll tell you at nineteen Bro, he put
fear of my heart every time we went out. I'm on the other side and I'm watched. Man. I ain't trying to do nothing else, but I'm watching this dude to make sure he don't come by me. So this just after I tell you all this story, this is it. I ain't gonna say, oh, man, nay, I don't want to put him out there like that. So all those vets I just named, right, hold up if I know that, if I know the name, I'm gonna say it because I think I know. Man, No, no, no, I want
to put him out there like that. Stack I want, I want to. I don't want to put him out there like that. So we find in Toronto, the Sacramento bro. It's the guys, right, the boys got the big bottle with that damil. Now, mind you, all these cats drink. I think I think Kevin Willis is the only one that don't drink. No, he didn't. Yeah, so old plane ride, they're drinking like crazy. I'm talking. I got a bunch of bottles. We're laying in Sacramento, and oh it's looking
for the last bottom. My man don't even want to drink no more. So he hit the bottle on this seat. It was up to the chef. I saw the chef. That's my brother, my brother, my chelf. So he hit the bottle under my seat, under his seat, walking up and down the bus right on the way to the hotel. Hey man, wait, the motherfucker bought that? Who got the last bottom? Boy? Somebody like part of that? Buddy? Hey what you bought that? You hide the bottom? Dog? Oh?
I was looking around, grabbed the bottom. Mind you. The dude is from Sacramento, clean suit. Oh he going home to see the fang, trying to hide the bottom. Oh, you don't want to you don't want to drink them out, all right, mother, you're gonna where it is and started and drenched it on it, the whole bottle, bro, bro, the whole bottle on my bottle. Hey, but he's sitting there like I'm mad as hell, like ready to get up,
na chill dog, take that you got. You gotta be telling, hey, you gotta take you gotta eat that dog you got when you can't do nothing. If you get and trying to try to defend yourself, it might end up a little worse than just get. That's why I was like, hey, you gotta take that it, Yeah, take don't do it, man, I'm nice toys, old bro, I'm saying. I'm like, hey, man, I ain't messing with this too. Bro. But I love that cat to death, though, man, because I know he
tried to die for you. Bro. Yes, high school journey, you jump in, you get a nice deal. What was it like to finally have your own shoe, your custom shoes? So I'm wearing the host in college shout out to math from wearing the mac man, Yeah I got yeah, I had them on the college. Yeah. Nah. It was a great thing because you know, I grew up wearing my idle shoes, Penny wearing Jordan's wearing pips. You know, being out on the black top pooping in your your
favorite player's shoes. I mean that that was something special. And then to know I have my old and see your kids do the same. Hey, man, it was I mean, what can I say? Man? God is good? Bro s good? It was. It was a thing to see. And then you you look back and see guys like running high school wearing your shoes. Man, my mom made it, Mama, My mom made it. Though. Who's one guy you wish you could have teamed up with in your career? Anybody? Oh,
everybody want to play with? Everybody play with? Shock of Tim Duncan. Shack of Tim Duncan. I knew I was gonna win either. Could you imagine if Timmy would have came to Orlando with him and g Hill who Hill stay healthy? That would have been That could have been
a dynasty. That was a big three right there. That was a big three right there, man, for that ass for real Mabory coach jeff jeff and Gundy, Man, Jeffer and Gundy was just I mean, here's his basketball actum it was like nothing that I have a better round. The man was super duper smart. He made sure that you were gonna you were going to be well prepared, you know, going into games. I mean he provided all the information that you needed. Now I played for his brother.
Stand was the same way. Attention to details, tape, shoot around, take, shoot around, knee pass. He wasn't ready to go. Was he precise? Was extremely precise. Man. You had to the point, to the point to the t he just got he just got a little rattled during the big game. But as far as preparing you to to to do what you're supposed to do, one of the best ship I know. I asked you, bro, what happened in Orlando? Could you
play with you? You you played with Skip in Orlando when youall went to the finals, right, No, okay, okay, Yeah, So this is the year. I want to say. We were one of the top teams in the East and they had played Orlando, had played the Lakers the year before the finals, and I came the following year and we had beat Boston three one during the season and then going into the conference finals, we are smacked Charlotte lock Jack Davis smacked Atlanta we were beating every two.
We were eight no, beating every team by like game over, some crazy NBA record average. Going into Boston, he wanted to change up the whole game play. And you know, this is the veteran driven team. We need to do a B and C two two. And this is when Dwight Howard was in his prime, when the white Howard prime. You couldn't funk with the white. With the white smoth, athletic, agile, motherfucker I ever played light was on this ship in Orlando.
You couldn't funk with Dwight Howard. So we had like this, we had we had, We had d Howard, we have Vince, we had with char Lewis, Jamir Nelson, Petrice who else? We had, We had a we had a squad, changed everything up. Going into the Eastern Conference finals. You got a little nervous on us. Oh so so that was a regular season game when you did that the Kobe, Yeah, that was the end of that. That was the end
of the season that March. So we were thinking, we were thinking, we're gonna see them again in the finals. I just wasn't there the year before. So play we're supposed to line up in the finals again, and then we and then you know what I mean, shifted on the Church's money in the Eastern Final. Yeah. Attention to detail, Yeah, that motherfucker. Get your attention to detail for sure. Current NBA? Who who are you a fan of? Who are you watching? Teams? Players?
I mean, I'm a fan of the game. But man, Katie, my young my young boy, Jalen Brown boy, uh and he always winning the tea Max, that's my guy. That's my guy. But that Katie, bro Katie is a bad motherfucking him. Polo and Paul George and uh Kau. I was looking forward. I was really looking forward to, uh seeing what the Clippers gonna do with the Lakers this year. Yeah, I really want to see that. And I just don't think we don't get that chance. Who you who? You
had in the finals though, the Clippers and Lakers? Who have finals? My preseason pick I had Clippers winning the whole thing. Bo me too. I thought. I just thought with the killers that they have and you got lou Williams come off the bench, bro, I thought that was it was too deep. Then they added one added Morris twins, the Boorris twins, and then and Reggie Jackson. Come on, bro, they held a D A lot of dogs, sir, Who
you had? I had the Lakers? You know, I kind of feel like, you know, Lou Williams would be the fact that because the teams are very matched up, you know what I'm saying. But I think if they could find somebody to stop the A D. The key X factors to me was gonna be if they could find somebody to stop a D and the Lakers had an answer for Lou Williams. That was my two questions. I just felt like the chap regardless was coming out of l A. I wouldn't have been surprised if either of
them went. But I thought the champion, with all due respect him to Milwaukee and and the rest of you know, Boston was starting to hit their stride the side the team's Toronto in the East. But I just felt like the championship was going to come to l A one way or another. Yeah. Is there anyone in today's game, uh that that you mentor talked to? You know? Cod was kind of big on turning trying to give back. He spoke on giving back what he learned in his
knowledge to this younger generation. Have did you find yourself doing any of that. I talked to Jen Man. You know, Jalen trains with me. He comes to the house. Yeah, so I worked in. I talked to him yesterday. He's coming. Uh, whenever they lift this ship off, man, he's gonna come get that work in, gonna get in that last. So that's that's my young boy. He's an intelligent dude too. He I didn't really much of them when we had
him on the show. Very kid man, very business sad. Yes, I was very impressed with the way he just carried himself and embodied like he's like an old son, very intelligent, but the older spirit. He gets it. Man. He's very sharpe and and a very sharp What team would you love to join? It to day's league? If you can play in today's league, what team would you would you if you had a choice to pick a team, what team would you go play for? With the current players
that have constructed house constructive? Right now? Yeah? Yeah, yes, yeah, put me in Golden State, bro, Yes, sir, put me in Golden State. I don't blame you, I don't tell me. Why talk to me? Talk to me? Man. Look, first, you got the greatest shooters in the game on one team. That that's Clay and staff, Draymond, playmaker, ability, leadership. You add me to that? Who you gonna check who? I just just like that, just like Katie was on the team. Like you. You couldn't do nothing with them, can't do
nothing with it. You know what I see? I see Tea Mac at the point, Jimmy Butler and then beat and Philly without Ben Simmons. I love him being but we might fight. I might fight and be gonna fight. Yeah, he real hes talented as hell, bro, but him, Yes, you know what I'm saying that every night, every night, you gotta bring it. That man got so much talent. I think so much skill, so much man. I think he got to get in better shape. To man, I love, I love that kid's game, but he he got to
be more consistent and get in better shape. He needs Yanni's attitude. Who would you like to see as a guest on all the smoke for us? I think y'all need to get fifty on here. Man. We've been trying. We've been trying. We've been DM. I've been DM, I've been on this page all. He got a lot of he probably the business man. Here's how you do. You need to get my my bro on here, lorenz Tate,
