M hm.
Hm. Welcome back.
All the smoke coming to you from the Excess nightclub here at the beautiful Wind Hotel. Round two of interviews and Jack, if two people in the league embody all the smoke, it's probably these two.
Yeah. And I will also throwing the word trill.
See I'm gonna pull out the textas w the original trill and I don't use that word trill and give it to many people.
You know what I'm saying. From Trill to Delphia. Man, welcome to the show. The Mors Twins. Appreciate y'all.
Fellas, Thank you, Rose y'all, y'all fresh off the plane, We appreciate you.
I talked to them like two hours ago.
He was just landing and they decided to come through and bless us long overdue, absolutely with their presence.
What are you guys up to these days? What's going on?
Having kids?
Man?
Kids?
I got three boys and he was about to have no boys, have no boy in August?
You have two boys, two boys, one girl.
All boys? Okay, okay, So who's all this?
Seven minutes?
Seven minutes? Okay, I got twins. There're six men.
You guys are identical obviously, How you look like that if you're off fraternal Hey, what it is?
You know how? That's what the doctor said.
So you guys invested in a brand called Legends.
Shout out Legend, shout out my guy Scott.
They put all this together. What made you invest in that? Obviously as athletes, I know you guys are actively investing, But what made Legends stand out to you?
Guys? Honestly?
Even though we was in a bubble and uh, I think I think Legends that are collabed with mv p A during that time. That was when we were doing all the social justice stuff there and it came out with these hoodies and actually Bro had it on. I was like, Damn, that's a nice ass hoodie. You know what I'm saying, because you know, people don't really wear
sports stuff like just around chilling in it. So when I got back to LA after the bubble, I actually want of Koha's kawhile and the guys was talking about Legends and he was I don't know if I said this, but Ship he was talking about doing the collab with him. This was when he before he got to New Balance and his dude was telling me about him, and uh, Ship man, I started doing my research, just ended up reaching out to Scott myself talking busting it up.
You know.
It was just it just it just it just it just matched, you know what I'm saying. We were just on some ship, like, hey man, I know no other other like companies you get a little endorsement. He was like, we really don't want to do that, you know, I mean, if you really want to take a look at it and be an investor, you know, just dig deep a little bit. And I told Bro about it and brung some people on and ship.
You guys are entering your thirteenth year vets that don't really come along too often. This league is so young now to see real vets is refreshing. What do you think of the state of the league right now? You guys kind of got a taste of the era we were in. Obviously the era has transitioned to more of a scoring, less physicality, but still fun game. But what do you think about how you started Where the NBA has kind of transitioned into.
I think it's in a good hands. Man.
These young players coming up there, real talented. I think, you know, once Brian and all those guys retire, I think you know the zions of John Moran, so I think those guys will, you know, a takeover. But I don't like it is the vet thing like as we get older. It's not like when y'all was in the league. You remember how y'all basically call it quits when y'all wanted to call it quits. Nowadays they pushing the vest and more younger guys, and I don't think that's helping them.
I think that's hurtingly because you need the guy, you need the order guys to show them the way. So that's the only part I don't like. But other than that, it's in a great state.
Talent. They ain't that money.
Shoot, talented.
Money ain't going nowhere.
Money crazy.
That's just started on our when we on our way out though, and they start pushing aiut, they start pushing me out. They start pushing all the guys like us out around that time, and that's when that bullshit started.
Don't understand the qualities. That's crazy. Understand too. Nowadays the gms and they're younger, they're not the older like they used to be when you were young guys was in the league, So they're looking at younger guys, they don't understand the qualities of having bets in the locker room. You get on these one or two teams though they understand it. You try to stick with that.
That's normally guys that played understand the importance and they're in those positions. But guys that are number crunchers or or analytics.
Guys analytics, they don't get it.
That's the game and you, guys, depending who do you guys feel there, maybe the top two players in the league right now. It goes back and forth, but who you guys feel like the top two players in the league are right now?
Shure, I'm gonna say, uh got to say Tatum and Uh to me.
I like Embiid, Tatum and Bid I like him Beho you got key.
I'm more so Kyrie and KD. I mean, Kyrie is obviously the most scaled player by far, and then just you know, Kd's ultimate offense.
So I'm going with the offensive guys.
Thoughts on the when we came in the league, there was a handful probably, but there's really been an international European kind of takeover of the league. You look at Yo, Giannis, Luca Embiid, guys international players that have won MVPs the last handful of years as American players that compete and grew up loving this game. Thoughts and kind of just the way the international players are running the NBA right now.
To keep it real ship there really is, man, I mean I think uh much to say, I'm still gonna say they're still in our blueprint. I mean, you know, they becoming professionals at a younger age, and that's starting to really like grow on the game. And I think that's what we have to do here. I mean, you got the what's that the league that the Twins came from, the ote ot leg. I think we need more leagues like that because that's the way now like professional younger age,
I mean playing with grown missions thirteen. He's the top players in Euros So they are already coming in with an edge. And then their game is different from ours too.
They play positionless over there, so now we've transitioned into policitis.
We used to be one through your side.
You got to handle and shoot from the jump. And I think we're behind the eight ball.
Yeah, we're behind the eight ball and that, but we'll catch up, yep, you know, you know I always go, let's go back to your upbringing.
Paint the picture of your upbringing and Philly. What's out of the Philly y'all from no one second. We appreciate what you do for the city too, man my second. Yeah, man, I've been seeing it all the time, Mailly from the same hood. We're from the same yeah, Philly, Man, I got it. I got a lot of that love Philly. Man took German Town where you was at. Yeah, I was a German time. I was up north with with Chris and yeah, where's Tom Trump to.
Where's Flip Murray? From?
From Toptown.
Flip Murray was a bad shout out Flip Murray.
He was like he's still balling on the leagues out there.
It was all great, Flip cold Flip was a killer.
But yeah, we're from North Philly. From right there in north right there, across the street from Mexico. Yeah, cav Heart right grow right around the corner from us. We all in the same neighborhood, right down that that lane of area Avenue, Hunting the Park. Yeah, I heard you saying that the other day.
I was rolling. I ain't gonna lie.
I was rolling, but coming up in Philly football, baseball, basketball, Who was the best at both?
And what was your guys favorite sport coming up?
Football? Ye, football was what was it?
You guys play quarterback and see that's that's the easy combination.
It was cool, man, We got the we got the high school and it was cool. But then we played outside one time. That was the end of that was we played outside when it was cold, like during the summertime. You played little league, you know what I'm saying. Once you go to high school, you get into the winter time, you know what I'm saying, and you really playing playing that ship man, we was out there. Ma, man, this ain't for us. Yeah, let's just see if we could play.
But mind you, we haven't even played basketball, so we really didn't start until like our ninth grade, tenth grade year.
That's when you guys picked the basketball. Football was your first love.
Yeah, we played all the way up until till that time. So I got it at seven. Yeah, played till ninth grade year. That's why I think like it translated well because we was already physical, you know what I'm saying. So we went into the game like we really started. Football players played basketball. That was the same way football was first.
Yeah, so the room is keep better than math Mark Markets. You better at a great better reader. Did y'all used to switch classes? That was twenty years ago. Yeah, I used to switch classes on boards. Well the same. It's just something to do that. It was just something to do.
Man.
We had to y'all get away with Yeah, man, we got away with all that ship. Yeah that was that was that was mining.
But that was easy work.
Yeah, that was so long ago.
What's the wildest if you could say the wildest switch off y'all pull, whether it be in the classroom, in sports, in life else.
It's got to be in life. But it in appropriate for the cameras. They say we switched teams like team they said we switched NBA teams like like five years ago. That's been crazy, that's what they said in the playoffs. Yeah, that that's funny. Yeah, they put a whole story on that ship. Ain't true.
Being in Philly growing up that y'all have in influence from AI, I'm pretty sure all of them.
Yeah, that's the only person we watched. We used to go down there on Fridays and just I so old Aunt Rode show. We used to like really be running.
You said that Fridays, motherfucker ran that ship.
Man, Bubba Chuck.
Yeah, for sure, man, That's all we did feel like that was that was the reason why we was six a fan, the reason why we even picked up basketball. You know what I'm saying, every kid.
In the Philly How did Kansas become y'all choice for school?
We originally we was committed to Memphis throughout the whole year. This from John Colin Perry was there. He was the hottest coaching college basketball. Uh Kentucky had just opened up, so we knew he was gonna get there. He was gonna get the gig there. Our high school coach at the time was doing all the research for us. Knew he was gonna get the gig. And then uh yeah, we opened our recruitment back up kept Kansas and Memphis.
They played in the National Championship against each other. We had Grandmam's house watching the game on it between me and him because I wanted to go to Memphis bad like I was all John Coler Perry Derek log was the it was the assistant coach at the time, so you know I was.
It was more so me.
Uh yeah, I wanted to go to he wanted to do the Kansas locked in that Grandma cribs. Basically, you know, whoever won the national championship game, that's in school.
That's how you decided. Whatever team won and Kansas beat him was Chris Douglas, Robinson and the Rose on.
This and it was crazy. Yeah, I remember that, like it could have won a different direction. We would have you, boy, yeah, really would have would win. So y'all y'all said before the game or during the game.
Yeah, we shook on like whoever win.
The National Championship going to Yeah, that's crazy.
Really only man him know, we only to else because I was I was locked in on me.
Yeah, that was that was. That was my school. Yeah, I was gonna was gonna go there. That was.
That was the one Jack speaking to the mic. What did you just poured our cup right there?
Jack?
One more time, give me the correct a nilos What does that mean?
It means rings in Spanish. This is our mess, coal.
Mixed with watermelons.
Go ahead, take don't take a sip. It's gonna be everywhere. It's gonna fix everybody business.
Yeah, we have something like Baron would say, here, try something cheers.
Nice, my god, cheers for having brought.
I'm telling y'all, ay, b you and Mac gonna have people thinking I'm smart for real minute.
So was there ever thoughts you knew for sure college you were gonna go together, and then the next stop you never you never knew what was gonna happen.
And I'll be honest, bro, Like we never really talked about the NBA growing up. We never was on something like we're gonna make it to the NBA. It was more so like going to college. First's amazing. Nobody in college is getting out, you know what I'm saying. So like even like having an opportunity to go to college was like it was our opening, you know what I mean. And then like it was such a culture shot because we went from North Philly.
To Kansas, you know what I'm saying.
So that man, bro, Like we struggled like like a lot the first year, we really struggled in school, and like we had Danny Manning. He was over there and he was like a mentor of us, and he just he kept us on the straight path and like he really like turned our games on, like turned our work ethic up, and like we started to like see the growth. Like one summer we was in school and went back home and was like grown as men, you know what
I'm saying. So like everybody was like like it was a big change, right, And that's when like the light kind of came on, like, hey, we got a real opportunity, like yeah, to make the league and ship. After that, we just we was pushing each other. How many y'all tattooed? Y'all got that the same ship? Hold on right, he got fifty, we got fifty y'all whole right arm is the same? Yeah, probably thirty five of them the same in the same spots too, right, Yeah, spot don't. Yeah,
we started early. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, that's dope.
Favorite battles in college you played Big twelve, Blake, Griffith, Chris Middleton.
What's that like? We was fucking Chris Middleton up in college. We didn't get to play against Blake. We was fucking Chris Middleton enough. Our biggest battles was our teammates. We had gang of guys went to the league. We had Thomas Robinson, we had Jeff Robs in the house. Ain't we had even like go to the league. The niggas was nasty, you know what I'm saying. We had Mario Little he was could have left from Juco went to the league. You know what I'm saying. But it became
like we became a brotherhood. But ship, we used to battle, We used to get it in, you know what I'm saying. Damn, and everybody went to the league off our sport.
Damn.
There played something here really overseas all Rich Sharon Collins.
Sharon was on your team.
We had Josh Shelby. We had a bunch of guys, remember Xavi and Henry. He was on our team this when he was a top five pick. Yeah, Shelby to be more. Yeah, he was cold.
Was Bill self hard on y'all? They both said come on hey, man like.
It was crazy man, but he really like he worked it so hard that when we got to lead this ship was just easy. You know what I'm saying. Man, We was we look at it, We look at him wrong way. We was running and then everything was together. So if it's me, I'm running, you know what I'm saying, If it's him, we both running. So not one of easy. In college. I was lazy as ship. He would literally do and everything was together. It doesn't matter which one of Like we both was getting in trouble.
So was he just an asshole or was he pushing you because he saw something a little.
Bit of both.
It wasn't just us ship, so I call it, it was both ways. Like we was just the ones, you know, one of the ones. I think he was twin so like it was just easy to pick on, you know what I'm saying, Like one is two people to you know what I mean, normally on one now because both of them doing it, You're like, man, fuck it, I don't even know what I mean.
You did it? Marks looking to be wrong?
Mark Keith running this ship was crazy at the end of work that it worked out real good for us because like we became men. He like tourt, Like we didn't have father so it kind of became like a father figure and such. But it was really like just strenuous work, you know what I'm saying.
Twenty eleven, what's the pre draft process? Like how many teams you guys work out for? Did you guys work did you guys work out together at every stop?
No?
Two teams.
Actually the teams we got drafted to those are only to work out together.
Oh really what what were those teams?
Houston and Phoenix?
Yeah, And the part about that was that that dog wasn't even he wasn't even gonna come out of school.
Yeah you were going to stay.
Yeah, he well, he wasn't going to stay, but he wasn't on any like for projects of like being drafted, you know what I'm saying. So he was like damn. He was like, bro, if you leave, I'm leaving. And that's just what it's going to be. Like, if I can get to the combine, we can make something work. End up, I'm allowed to be picked the whole time. He ended up going to the combine and he go
before me, like it was crazy. I'm like that, it was just like it was made because we sat at the same table, one pick right on each other, you know what I'm saying.
So it was just you guys were thirteen fourteen thirteen. We just saw the top the Thompson Twins with four and five, right, we just saw the twins. That kind of shit made me excited, though, bro, because I've been fucking with y'all for a long time obviously because I have twins and you guys got a chance to meet them. But it's just like to see your dreams kind of materialize and it's really a u together.
Your twins gonna make because they way more burnout at the age than y'all will. And trust me bro them too. They've grown already to grow. All they gotta do is stay. Of course they gonna make. Yeah, they locked in.
Kids nowadays different though, Yeah, were so much more you know what I'm saying, So like they can it can go fast.
Well, I feel like now, I mean, you guys probably caught a little bit of old but like when we grew up, we was outside, Like we didn't work out, we didn't train, We was doing shit we probably shouldn't have been doing. You know, Now kids have trainers, and I feel like the skill level now is super high. But I feel like a lot of people lack the IQ because they don't really play. They hoo, they do all the one on one ship and all this shit is immaculate, but just how do you play off the ball?
How do you say screens?
How do you roll? How do you pop? How do you cut from the weak's side. I feel like a lot of the young miss that.
Yeah, everything you can't teach the basis of a game. Everything gotta be alight.
And even if you lose, thirty minutes later you'll see a kid on your team post a highlight real like, nigga, we just lost, literally just lost, and you got a whole mixtape on Instagram right now?
What the fuck?
So you guys get a chance to play together in Phoenix?
Right?
What was that experience? Like?
It was up? I'll tell you that that was the best.
That was the best ship ever season or two seasons and a half, two and a half.
It was just two two and a half and one and a.
Half two and a half came a half and then we played two more after that.
But what was that experient? I mean, that's gotta be insane. Y'all share that.
Y'all get a crib together and everything right back in huh all.
Right back crazy.
We was wrinting Kurt Warner crib Kurt Warner's place. Yeah it was cold, man.
I know that was hard. Eight rooms man, man, eight homies, you know.
And that's too because normally one person gotta float the income, gotta float the bill. You got to float the bill.
Down like you get you get ready of that car and we share this car, I keep, you keep my car. I heard at one point limit of it sure or not that both of y'all checks are going to one account.
Yeah, I'm saying that's hard. That's hard.
Everybody always like say, like y'all, y'all need to grow up share And I'm.
Like, why that doesn't make sense?
Yeah, two players, two people that's living in the same Also, we're basically doing the same shit, same lifestyle, same shit. Yeah, we don't need to everything.
We need one.
To Mika Sue Cassa for real, for real.
And at this time we twenty two, twenty three. You know what I'm saying. Yeah, reason that like brand like that don't make sense. That made a lot of sense with what that ship was cold, I'll tell you that.
So you get traded in twenty fifteen, you guys felt like it was a funny style move by the Suns.
What was what was the reason behind that?
It was, you know, we had we was in the mix of like some legal stuff, so like uh that that we came out on top of and we just basically was kind of like explained to the owner like we really didn't have nothing to do with it, and he wanted us to do something that we didn't want to do.
So it was like it was, oh, that was a bitch ass sorber, wasn't it Sorer?
Yeah, I didn't even want to go there.
That came from me. That didn't that didn't come from them. Next game, Yeah, send your comments to Stephen Jackson.
But that Matt said it, I said it too. Yeah. Yeah, So he wanted us to do some ship we didn't like. We just wasn't doing it, man, Like I was like, well, if you're gonna do that, then that's just what it is. But we're gonna stand on it, you know.
Yeah.
And at the end it's also too when we just agreed to a contract together, so we took less money to stay together and play there, and we didn't even get to play one year on the contract. Yeah, that was the year before the contract kicked in. Basically at the time, like we both I was for sure I was worth a lot more than what I what I took, but I wanted to stay and play with my brother.
So that was just kind of where like you're gonna make me, you're gonna do that, sign the contract and then and then check him out and now I gotta play here another four years on this bullshit contract.
I ain't. We ain't doing.
That, Robert Sars. Why you ain't coaching the art in the league.
No more memorable stops for Marcus two twenty eighteen Celtics.
You take on le Bron seven games in that series? What was that? Any good memories from that series? Hey man?
Just like the fact that I was like playing against Brian it's crazy.
Like you know in that series.
Yeah, yeah, I was cooking him through my office in your offices roll your office was.
Like, yeah, you ain't defend, like you better watch the tape. Yeah, it was going both ways, but it's Brian and I respected that, just like to share that court. And I even told him like, hey, like I'm gonna beat I'm gonna be right here every time. But it's an honor, you know what I'm saying, Like my kids gonna be able to go back and see this shit.
You know what I'm saying.
I'm like, could be the best player to ever touched the ball. So I was like, man ship every game I'm here, Yeah, like you know what I mean. That's why I basically I felt like I made my money being able to take him to Game seven and ship you almost won that game too with Jason Tatum as on the rookie year Brown two years in.
That's was at the Eastern Finals were Tatum dumped on bro his chess.
Yeah yeah, I was in that video to a little bit.
I was.
I was screaming that niggas face out. Yeah, hell yeah, you know what I'm talking about. I was trying to you know what I mean. But it was a great team, man, I was probably the most stacked team play.
Yeah without Kyrie and that was without him was there, but he was hurt, right, was hurt.
Hayward had got hurt with the young boys, all right, Yeah it was up. Yeah. You think they're gonna win the championship with Tatum and Brown?
Yeah, like I think it happens. I think like a couple more pieces, like a couple more pieces away. But I mean I'm a fan of Tatum. You cool with the.
Losing smart smart Smart. I didn't like Brocken feel that role.
I hear you said, Brockden, Nah good player and I would take aways. Yeah, but like smart, hard and soul that team smart. Yeah, he is Boston, he is, you know what I mean? He he bled out there like he was doing.
And then the next heart and so they got rid of Grant Williams. He was another he was playing, but he was important. I felt like he was not necessarily the big name, but he did a lot of ship that didn't show up on the stat sheet for that team. I mean, like, I think he's a great pick up for Dallas because he's just one of them dudes, a blue guy that you need.
Keef, you shot the Bubble Championship with the Lakers. Talk about that experience. What was it like getting your ring? I know your brother was going crazy, but yeah, ship, I was unbelievable. Man, I'm still I'm still a little tight. We ain't get that. We ain't get to do the carnal.
I mean in l A.
I'm sick about that because you want Man in l A at the time. Man, you know the year when Kobe passed Man. You know all that ship was a set up, but you know, you can't take away from that. It was a It was a great experience.
Man.
Before we went in the Bubble, we knew we was going to win. We were so locked in this ship. Happened with Kobe was like, you know, we gotta get done for him. He was one of the teams that was pushing more foot the bubble because we knew we had the best chance of We knew no matter what who stepped on the court works we was gonna win. That's the most locked and I've ever been on basketball.
I got to say that by far, do you think because it started at the top with for sure, you know that Lebron effect is a real thing, Like you know what I'm saying, like he's going to up your play or you not going to play with one of one of the other one or the other. And I think for me, I'm a high IQ basketball player, so it was easy for me to mix with him. And that's why I shot forty percent.
That's what it was. The game was easy.
Yeah.
I tried to tell people that, you know, there could be great teams and teams win championships, but there's nothing like playing for the Lakers. You got a championship playing for Lakers. Explain to people who may not know, like what is that energy like? And everywhere you go like, oh, you want a championship. But it's like you said, the unfortunate passing of Kobe, like it just seemed like everything after that had lined up for you guys to win
it and then you are you end up champions. What was it like being a champion as a Laker?
It was unbelievable.
Man.
The first couple of weeks, I couldn't I just still couldn't believe it, Like like leaving out out of the bubble in the locker room. I was the last person in there with the trophy, and I was just like a championship, Like you know what I'm saying, not only just making it to the league, but getting there and actually like winning, spending the how my brother, my nephew was born like U two days after that, two days before that, one of those things. So it was just
like it was just so surreal, man. And you know obviously playing with Brian and a d and being a part of the Lakers. Man, But I'm still sick about that parade.
You want to crazy.
The parties was crazy, but that parade, especially after watching the teams after us, when like Denver, that's how crazy that was.
Like being in La having a parade. La.
They turn it out in La. They shut the whole city down.
LA.
We deserve that. Yeah, they still need to give as well. And running back real.
I thought on Bron's greatness and just Longevy. Obviously you get a chance to play against him, you play with him. The fact that he's going into year twenty. I think he'll be thirty nine at the end of this year and he's still playing at such a high level.
What are your thoughts on that?
This is unbelievable?
But you know, being for me watching them and his work I think, and what he do for his body, and you know what he doing the court, what he do to just stay in shape is it's top to none. I've never seen nobody work as hard as him, you
know what I mean. Three four hours before the game, two three hours after the game while we going and cold tuppy, He putting in work in the weight room, He getting treatment til two in the morning, you know, all those things and still being him, So you know what I mean, still being Lebron and still doing that shit is unbelievable. Like I've been around the great players I've played on I would say nine of the top ten players teams, you know, but on the court, off
the court, around the game, nobody works as hard. So I can see how he can play.
You know what I'm saying that long you had an incident with Jokic, What did you do?
You hit him on the screen or you fouled him. You fouled, you took it.
You took a foul on him, and then another sit you're running back down court.
He takes a cheap shot.
Sucker shot, that's what we call it.
He took a sucker shot at you, but really messed you up. Tell everybody what you went through, cause didn't even know until I was reading like the depths of the ship you had to go through, you said.
So the shot was it was. It was a little hard. It was like a little wht blash. Yeah, So, I mean the B three fifty catch me off. Guy, he really ain't do shit. But you know, at the time I was a little off. It was more so with the Miami heat. They was just trying to protect me from you know, I guess me from myself. But I was clear to play like two weeks after that. They just helped me out. So it really wasn't one of those things where I was like injured or in pain
or anything like that. Took a sucker shot. It was like when you get when you get a they call it snuck and snuffed me. Yeah, sucker shot me. Gonna get his though.
Now as a brother, like I said, I have twins, and I know how since they were little one that we put the twins in soccer. In their first game, one kid knocked one twin down and the other twin ran across the field at three years old and like just took the.
Other kid out. And I was like, oh, noob, Like.
How did you feel as a twin brother seeing someone take that that sucker shot on your brother?
I mean I was upset obviously, you know, it was just more so like because he had his back turn. But then I told him, like you should never turned it back to you know what I'm saying. So I took it over like a take file, like did you watch it? I put my hand up so he knew I was you wouldn't try to do it. It's what
he did. He tried to jump past the ball as I'm coming to follow you, like I don't know what he was thinking, but it made it seem like I was trying to hurt him when it when it wasn't, but the league made it seem like I was trying to hurt him too, because they fucking find me, was.
Going to throw me out. I think it was weak. That was weak. Dide you finding me for I know what it got hit. I understand it.
