Welcome to All the Smoke, a production of The Black Effect and our Heart Radio and partnership with Showtime. Welcome back to another edition to All the Smoke, All the Nada. My brother, You're good and I'm good. Brother. We're back at it. Yeah, we got some more family in the house today. Welcome our guest lamar odom something my guy, what's something, dude? We got you here? Man, a man, I've been trying to track brow down for a minute, like, come funk with us. Man, we gotta talk, come talk,

Come kick it. Man. It's good to see you. We jump right into was a hell of a year for the world. What was one thing positive negative you took from keep your loved ones even closer to not being able to go outside, you know what I'm saying. So the people that you were relating with every day, you're gonna learn a lot about them. Keep going close to you. Of course, all the time your story has been widely publicized, it's been an up and down journey for you, to

say the least. Where is where are you currently at right now? We're just life, family, everything that's good for you. I'm happy, it's important, you know what I'm saying that's all the matter, sober, But I mean I'm happy, for the most part, hard working, you know what I'm saying, trying to get back on top where that should be. Absolutely. How would your versatility translating the game today? Probably like

closer triple double? Yeah, I would say like same thing, like high James harden Like, don't give you some of my favorites you st James harden Um, Luca I thank God. Yeah, Lebron Ben Simmons, you know what I mean. I like the way you dream on green play the game too, versus tell someone could do a little bit of everything, God to do a little bit of everything. Yeah, we'll take us back. Your upbringing, your childhood's it's been well documented. Uh,

your father struggled with addiction. You unfortunately lost your mom at twelve. But all that shape that you into, you know the man you are. Tell us about your upbringing. Queen's Queen's Yeah, my mom's passed away. I was like I was twelve years old. Um, it's crazy. I remember the day she did pass away. I just want you to to Paul like who all day? That was like the first time I got, like the past to stay out all night you know what I'm saying. I think my

grandmother knew I was creaving, you know what I'm saying. Um, she passed away in the afternoon and she I was in the parks and the next morning just hooping. And you know, growing up in New York, the point guard game is big, you know what I mean. So I always like trying to be like Kenny Anderson. When I came into the league, I was kind of like it was like a six nine Kenny. But then that changed when I went to Miamiounds. But basketballs, you know, it's

been a journey. It's been like for me, life is you know, ups and downs. When did you pick hoop up? Just playing against dudes that was older than me every day? That was my practice, you know what I'm saying. Little did I know that I I was just holding my skills to you know what I'm saying to make it to the NBA. Um, just playing ball every every day as much as I can. What was the city like back then? Obviously big, big on basketball, big on music. I mean nineties,

you know crack. You know what I'm saying. Um, Oh, tempo, violently, always gotta be on point at all that shape you and prepare you for what God was gonna put in front of you. With the journey you took in the NBA. How do you see that the New York shaped you and prepared you for what was coming. I think the streets in New York col prepare you for anything. Basketball in the streets was my life really, And girls say, man, ain't nothing changed. Really? You talked about outside, I mean

that really holding your game. Talk to us a little bit more about how just playing outdoor, like you said, well, your handles everything. You know what I'm saying. And when you were from me from New York. You know you're in New York. Got a bay to pat the ball, no matter what positions you're playing, no matter how big and yeah, and it's you know it's gonna give you an extreme advantage, you know what I'm saying, no matter

what level you want. Kyrie, James Harden, even Steph he known for his jump shot, but his handle is incredible. Shake shouting TV growing up as a kid, oh Man, Manjice Johnson, of course, Manzie Johnson, Kenny Anderson and then dudes that I love like even watching in the league. When I was even playing against call Net. What was your high school, you know, obviously a very decorated high

school player at legendary AU teams. Take us back to that time because, like I said, you hit a growth spark and you kind of kept growing, but you still kept your guard skills at what are you six, tess? Yeah, and I'm sick. I'm on six nine and a half now. But when I was when I was, um, I was a freshman in high school, I was like six too. But then when I came back to my sophomore yeah, I was like six seventh. Yeah, so at six too, you know, you're a guard in the middle of like freshman, yeah,

like six five. Then when I get back, I'm I'm six seventh. So I was able to keep all my guard skills. I'm constantly playing against or playing with Eric Barkley, Speedy Clackson. We had three three NBA dudes on the same high school chain. That's crazy. And then it's probably the toughest league I think in the in the country at the South st Raymonds. You know, any one of those teams like probably being the top twenty five and any given year, you know what I mean. I was

watching Kenny Anderson play. He was playing against the school um cold talent time it's not there no more. Well, you had Kenny Anderson and they had a center, his name was Robert and he went to St. John's. They was playing against the school cold tim in time. They had Brian Reese, Adrian Utry and with Leak Silly on the shame team. You see what I'm saying. So that's how I like tough to the c H I say is every year. So to win it from my year, you had to go. I had to go play against raw.

You know what I'm saying. It's tough, tough just to get out. The city Championship in New York City is everything. How did you grow your game just by playing and practicing? Um? You know in New York like dudes, you know, work me out, UM, shoutout to Vincent Smith. He was Kenny Anderson's mentor growing up. I'm just working out, going to Lost between Jim, working on my handle, Bob Deck. You don't go to any gym and just work out as much as possible, just get it in. Especially at that age,

I saw what it was really just basketball. But you know that was really before you smoking we or you know what I'm doing. Anything else and like that. Who tell me? Tell me about that rocket moment, the famous rocking moment when run and holding. Yea, when I mixed the boy up, yeah, and threw it through his leg When it was that, I think it was two Thomens for us. I think I just sound with the Miami heat. Yeah, yeah,

I did just that was the rocker. Yeah, it was raining raining, So we had took it to Gauchos Jim Yeah yeah, and then you know what I mean, you know, I'm front of hold and all that, so I want to and all that, and it just it just came out. But you know who you know who taught me that move? Darius Mouths told me that movie Factors. He told me that movie because he sucked me up in practice. You threw it that way and then threw it between my legs, Like fuck, how do you do that? You know what

I'm saying? And I just picked it up. Darius Smile showed me that one of the Hall of Fame rocket moments. They touched on that, though I don't think people realized because his career was kind of fast, how talented. No, yeah, he was different, knuckleheads, Yeah, he was different. Knucklehead. Yeah. He was really like, um, like a miniature going net, you know what I'm saying. But he had more outside games like quick hand, quick crossover and all that. But

he was dumb nice. He was before his time. When he came in, they thought he was gonna like just take it over. You know what I'm saying, He's gonna take it over. I had to just bust his ass practice. That's my boy, you know what I'm saying. That's my brother though, you know what I'm saying. But him and was tough too. Cu was. I was a fan of Cue. I'm in college. I watched him get liked. Word against Cincinnati, m against Cincinnatti. Big Cincinnati was more physical than any

NBA team I ever played. Again, they had to shut down factor mm hmmm before we get to the league that we don't want to touch real quick on your your legendary AU team. Oh me, yeah, I think we were like yeah, they said and one, Yeah, that was crazy insane, right. I think that the you know, depart that is more memorable then than the basketball wins is like the brotherhoods that you know what I'm saying, I'm gonna be able to you know, thirty forty years. We

now call these dudes my dudes. Because though summers was a couple of summers that we spent together, so many pros come up out of that, y'all his kids talking about it, and now of y'all making to the pros. Yeah, I mean I think a lot of us. I think we knew m hmm. We were desting for even at that age. At least get there. Yeah, take us back to AU because it was different now. You know obviously I'm I coached my kids. They're twelve and they're in it and you can see everyone we're gonna play now

through your phone. Back then, it wasn't like that. If they had these camera phones, highlights and all that. When I was coming up, the whole hood would have been indicted. Oh god, my lord, at before I even went to college. For if anybody with a business mind with me at that time, kidding me, it's extreme exposure. It might be over overexposed. I don't know how you fight overexposure. You not want your kid to be nice, right, Yeah, it's tough.

Have to be really really in tune, I would say as a parent or guardian now, especially if they play sports and nice, it's a shark, and they get it. It's a shark. I got my hands on them, so, you know, just watching them. But because it's so many different ways to monetize from amateur sports, even if you do it the right way. So golf forbids you a

scum bucket. Yeah you really prompt. Yeah, you know what I mean, Like you said, it could be too much too soon, Like it's we've never had the kind of you know, we have kids that are superstars before they go to college, you know what I mean. Normally you get some accolades, you might parade all American, they can read about you in the magazine. But these kids are

having bigger following. Zion would have had a bigger following than Doke had, you know what I mean, Like these kids, and I think everybody playing part with it, Sneaker companies and yeah, what was some of the top top schoolers racun You I wish I would have, like visit an h PCU, HBCU, you know, I wish I would at least gave him a visit. Could you imagine like the number one, number two playing the country visit an HBCU. I can at least imagine the visit with at least

that's what I'm saying. I know, I was talking to my man about that. I think I might want to um get into the a AU world to take like the best players and get them to towards the HPCU and get them some love. Said, how many more it with you? I had about five to six more kids if I went to hbc you even visited a campus, I would have by five six. And I'm just saying, though, like I think I would get I would try to get with the AU just to do that, just to

push kids to the HBCU and get them conferences. Wished I would have went to. Man, has it got to be like an experience? Imagine being the top player and then going to a school like that. So you don't have to be a top player just to be a big thing. They gotta be a move got I got two sons fifteen and sixteen, So I'm sure I'm gonna trying to put that in there with myself. I'm gonna go for I'm gonna get an apartment on campus or whatever. It just it wasn't even. It wasn't it wasn't even.

It wasn't the thought that process. I'm trying to survive. I wasn't thinking about college. Who are some of the schools though? That you that you thought about Vegas, Fresnel, State, U C, l A, Kentucky, Connecticut. Did across your mind to jump? You know? Seeing Kobe T. Mac Yeah it did? You know? I told my grandmother I was gonna always go to school. How does I want? I wanted to go to school, and I wanted to go to school too, But sometimes I wish I would have. I wish I

had jump? How wrote out to get so lucky? Yeah? We have with you n LV to get you to Rhode Island. Oh they set that cheat? Did you? How are you gonna cheering six? My dumb ass was set it up. They was set it up for me to cheat. Not still face. But the motherucker scored too high? Oh really that took it too good? Go away too high? I cheated. I tried my best cheating, but I could have. I think I could have passed it though, because I took the s A practiced one before that. I kind

of like was real close to the grade. So I mean, I wasn't stupid. You have you have someone else take the test for you that's the new Yorkshire. And he said they scored two good, they scored too high because they just looked at the my my average as a student, like what the motherfucker's called good twelve hunting on a T stupid mother? Does that work for the n C double A. They liked the FBI, they knew everything. Oh, they had me all the way, Jim, all the way, Jim, So,

how did you end up in Broad Island? Then I was gonna u c l A that so I thought, I remember hearing that. And then Harrod got fired on November six whatever, Yeah, you got firighted. No, remember six is my birthday. Birthday. They tell me I gotta leave you and LV so I was gonna go to u c l A. So I said, I'm just gonna go. Hi was cat went you up there? Yeah? He took

care of me that first year there. They won't even let me practice the secondary bats on the They wouldn't let you with that because of the S A T ship. I guess, because you know I'm the number one playing the country, extra harolded whatever, number one, number two, whatever you wanna call it, it's probably do it. I couldn't even read it. Right, So they got their whole like the president and all these people I guess that worked for the school and all that, and they asked me

to write a story about my life. Now I'm sitting there, I'm thinking about it, you know what I'm saying. I'm doing I'm doing that, and I'm like, I'm sitting I'm doing it. I'm like, motherfucker's really testing to see probably if I can read it right. I mean I did it, though it worked out. So you're the playing what one year there? One year? What was that like though? I mean that was such a small time school and you were such a big name. Incredible. I mean, the town

showed me love. The school show me love, you know besides that, And I mean I didn't know if that. I didn't know if they were doing that. But I'm just saying, you know what I mean, I just trying. I'm just trying to make it all makes sense, um, But the school showed me extra love. After my mom's passed away. I was really like fun school, you know what I mean. I wish I took it a little

bit more serious though. So ninety nine fourth picking the drafts, you go to l a Let alone with the basketball experience. What was it like going to l A the city. We got weed and white women. Man. One thing about that, I said, every day weather, weed and women game. And I had a million dollars and I'm nice. That's it. I'm like extra cocky with the game, like you wanna play pick up whatever? You know what I'm saying, like, whatever you want, you can have it your way. I

had a bad decision making. What was the basketball side, Like, you're fresh too, obviously the Lakers in their tradition, You're going to a young, but team with the Clippers, I mean, sho, I had thirty my first game, you know, no sweat, no sweat. I'm hyped. We had the first game in the Stable Center. That was your first game? Was the first game in the Stable Center? You blessed him with thirty.

I was messing with a booster from Vegas who was in construction, and yeah, he pulled out this these blueprints. He said, I don't know, here's my new building building. They called it Staples Center. Okay, all right, it's a small world. How I wind up opening it up playing the first basketball game? They're getting thirty, let's stop. I mean, I mean, I'm from New York. So it's just like it's really, like you said, it's heaven. Man. At nineteen, I can't complain. I don't know what's up. I don't

even think I was driving yet. Yeah, y'all don't really be driving up every I think I was taking car services everywhere. Jeff McGinnis, you know, Jeff McGinnis, j Mac, J mack and Charles Jones holding me down. Yeah, yeah, come to get every day of practice and all that. The silent Yeah. When when I first came to l A, you know, I you know, I go out when I first got to the Clippers. You will go out sometimes and the bounces be like, yo, say no Clipper party, Yo?

Did you imagine that? Crazy? Right? And then it's a lot of times some of the people be like, oh, that's Moll, that's Moll, that's smaller mother. So I'm thinking about it, like a lot of the dudes I was playing with, they wasn't even going out. M Then what I'm thinking about it too. On the Clippers, I'm a rookie. I'm number four, you know how to legal I'm the highest paid. So they wasn't even probably even confident enough to even go out. No, it was definitely different. This

ship early. It's two thousands, it's still popping. I remember being on a plane with my all, my sheet is and my CD player at the CD book everybody your second season. Yeah, I showed him how to really party, right, talk to us about that, show them how to like go out? How about them? I take pride in that we said on them says you should be like yo, were just as soon as we're dropping the city, everybody

meeting down stairs when we're going out. It was just such a cool dude, like he made sure and I caught him later, I mean, but yeah, he was always gonna make sure everybody if we go out, we're gonna San Antonio. Yes, your whole squad came in my house. Yes, the whole team was in my garage and down. We're gonna all get it in and it might not be I'm gonna say, I might not always have to pay for it, but we're gonna all have a good time. Yeah,

that's a real rat. Always that's the carpet. But yeah, you know what they did that too, made us tight practice want to get I'm pretty sure you know how it was in Indiana and all that you know what I mean, that motherfucker every time, just like Bond who was the coachry rookie year was it done? Levy. I didn't get to play for Dundle. It was Chris Ford. I played for um oh that is, and then Jimmy Todd and God blessed dead Dennis Johnson, which coach Jeff

Alvin Gentry. Oh. I got a little quick run in there early un Yeah, al and Gentry helped me out though I got s spended twice smoking weed early on. Get him put it back now. Then they only was chest for wee right now right, No thanks to us because of us, because we had to take the hits sport oh one. You get EB. So you know someone you grew up playing with that was you him, D Miles and Q. You gotta started to make some noise

with the Clippers. You know it's crazy that new changed let me him to the rock a lot too, though, um, I was just flashing back. My memory is like real bad accident, you know that. Well. I was just when you said EB and me playing on the court with E B. I wish we could have played longer together because I can remember coming down caring C four C four C turn four. Yeah, C four number, especially when you get cooking. He was a low down there, that bagic.

So as your career starting to kind of take off, obviously, what's the what's the what's the balance of basketball and off the court life in that new fame obviously people knew you. But being in l A as a whole another monster. We all know that. That's two thousand three four It was. It was still really all ball. Then. I ain't really start, you know, extracurriculum party until like two tho uh five six with Miami. No I was, I wasn't playing with Miami, but the first time I

think I was, I was in Miami. I was usiting Miami, and I was wounding out, wounding out a little too much, picked up a bad habit. Oh three, you had the South Beach. I think that's the ways rookie year. What was that like out there playing with Pat Riley and what kind of relationship? That was a dream come true for me because I told you I was a big Maggie Johnson fan and I'm from New York. So Pat coach to Knicks too, and then um I got to you know, play down, play down there for him for

a little bit. It was a dream come true. Change my game though a lot because my responsibilities on that team was different than in the other team I've been on. It was like, I mean, l A was more like, go get the ball, make a play. You know what I'm saying. Pat got a system and you're gonna defend and being shaped before you do anything else. That's real manhood basketball. That changed you for the better. You feel made me appreciate the hard work that you put in

for anything. You know what I'm saying. On the on the off the court, um Phils. His approach is more psychological. Pat is he's a he's a as a man man. Though he gave me that money. He told me like, yo, say get this money, but first thing you got you can live by yourself down You got more your family down here, That's what he said. So anybody to keep it that funky with you. You know what I'm saying. He told me that sn here, but this is what you gotta do. I was like, all right, I did it.

When Miami, you know, they whole um team is real family oriented. I won't be surprised if they retire you. You down this number. They got they got to We just had him extra stand up dude, supersider dude. He is the prototype Miami Heat player. Them allions are old stand up dude. Yeah, all gonna get good dukes. All gonna be good dudes. Oh four. The Lakers seat feels seemed like it's kind of part ways with shock and you're a part of a blockbuster trade. Yeah, I didn't

even think it was gonna happen. Did you hear any whispers about it or anything? You have any ideals coming? No, I could have dead it it though. What are your thoughts when they brought it to you? I mean, I don't dick ride nothing like that. You know what I'm saying that it's not form of transporation. But but I got the il kicker. If they do trade me, they're gonna pay me. Then I get go back as a Laker.

But stop there. But why that's more significant to me because I was a Clipper for those couple of years, so I know what it is to be a Laker. Me, I go back, I'll be cha and I get to play with me. As a no brainer for me, I took the executive decision. You're coming to Johan cob In l a dr Buss, Jennie Mitch rest in peace in a good way, Genie Pops in an amazing way. Yeah, what was the difference? Like you mentioned, you touched on it, but so you saw at the time the clippers weren't good.

You mean you came into a door, did we? Did you? I mean I remember I got there? No three were you guys practiced south by Southwest? Back then you have to keep the back doors open so no one breaking in. And now we practiced that at the Southwest Junia College, right, no shot, nasty showers. You had to keep the doors. I would never take a shot because motherfucker's is stealing breaking windows. This is the n b A. I wish I would have been around a dude like who had

practice habits like Kobe early on. I'm thinking about all the times pulling up the Southwest ten o'clock practice, coming in nine thirty like a bump, you know what I mean? There was no examples though, nah m, but touch on that like seeing I mean, I'm sure you've seen it. Right away. You got a chance play with him. I came and play with you guys. What it was like just being with him? And seeing him. Yeah, I mean it was his whole ship is different. I'll be here

and dudes say his name, but like you ain't. Really he was trying to be perfect on the court all the time, even doing this like his little shooting routine or whatever. You know what I'm saying. Even if his footwork, even if he's getting shot, she's doing in a certain way where he just trying to be the best to get better at it. You know, it's work effic in the morning, man, he was like it was a thug

at tending the morning. He was gonna it was banging on breathits man, for real, like my man, constant, take it easy. There was no such thing though. It was all full steam of head. Phil Jackson comes in, oh six, what's that experience? Like, I'm sure you never had nobody like him? Yeah, I mean that that change. Um. I think it's probably the way I looked at the game, you know, really, not from the from the physical aspect um,

from the mental aspect, the mental approach. Um. I mean, you know, we used to meditate together, and so if you know anything about meditation, that's like prayer in a sense. So really we like we all praying together unreligious, you know what I mean. So that's gonna build the extra um. Bond gives his books to read according to your personality and who you are. How do you want to affect your life? Mhm, that's crazy to have read enough books to be able to have something for you to understand

people that much stuff? Right? Question? How driven was cold? And how did that? I did that rub off on you? I learned from this dude just about even just broom just watching them, man, you know he said he was better than Mike. I know he did. He thought it. He thought it. You can tell them he thought that one.

I said, what, But you gotta understand his drive. It ain't too many dudes that played in the NBA that's black, yo, and that really mean it and they heart like that is growing up right now, like I'm gonna be better than Lebron Jamee. And that's where he chased his whole life was to be just as good or mentioned with Michael Jordan's remember saying I need to get six. I want to be able to sit the same table with Mike's. His whole frame of mind, his whole He had sixty

three and Dallas had sixty one. In the third quarter. Cos you know how NBA practices, word of mother, he hit like ten fifteen straight in the practice. You know, they know to play. He still can't do that idea. You guys are able to pick up pal in two thousand and eight. That changed everything. He was ready to bang after that. Yeah, you got to go to the finals that year and kind of become a part of that historical of the two greatest franchises ever to play

rivalry between the South. I don't really think people understand how good power it's probably presurely people that called him playing at the end of his career he's like something else because he played the point guard from the center position. Mm hmm. Film saying, so, okay, you know, penetration start from getting the ball in the post, right, That's the

deepest penetration you can get. So now you've got somebody that got the point guard mentality that's close to the basket but still has everything to score it though it's open everything up left right crazy, and you know, the triangle is probably the most intricate offense ever. I would say he came the first day like he knew it, like he was what he was watching. Film on it. We have we played against the Nets when we took off. From that point on, he had rock star too. He

went to Spain. He had it rocking. Remember that trip. Hey, well, I'm like, this is like a big time slooper stuff. Well we got Kobe and this dude. But the whole Laker experience was like unbelievable, tough for the Celtics to compete against. I should They have poor pears Garden there and rail and they had a good coach, but they were they were like they were had toughness to that big baby bass forward player Alan Kidd from Chicago, Right, yeah, they were. And and then there's the and then there's

with the Lakers. So you always got that beef. You don't even might not even know basketball. What you know, Lakers got beef with the Celtics. Well you know you're gonna get the best game first time. They beat our ass though, and Boston fans so wild and crazy they beat us. They beat us by like forty They don't even let our bus leave. They're shaking the bus after they were after they beat our ass, Like what happened? If we're the one What did y'all learn from that? Though?

That experienced that, that oh eight loss, because y'all went on to win two in a row after that, Oh hope that that was the hardest loss you ever had. Hell yeah, I think I think that's why I'm like, I'm gonna stay around Kobe a little bit more. He staying, I'm a staying you know what I mean, I'm really like, really like really followed this this dude all the way through and see where it takes us. And I think that's the year I decided to come off the bench.

How tough was that though, because you've been a was tough because it was I supposed they supposed to pay me. But everything worked out. I wanted up, you know, I'm saying Mariam shorty and all that. So everything worked out. I'm gonna get to that part. But so back to back championships. You get a chance to see them again in ten after what they did y'all eight. How vindicating was that and then also being able to pick your brother up and do with what Yeah, I think that's

why it was big for us to get them. Um. I remember, oh yeah, we run it. We won it that year with Trav and then I remember that summer he's a free agent. I remember speaking of I don't know where I bumped in the round or or shoot him something. We're out. It was like, yo, if you can, you should come with us. He m, you know what I mean? Like me, the three come get one? And then you know I already knew with him and Kobe on the same team, it's a lot. It's trouble for

the league. It's a lot of alpha male ntil long, you know what I'm saying. Because they went at it um when he was on Houston that one day in the playoffs. They took us to seven games. So I already knew he was gonna have a big just mentally because it ain't two dudes on the team. I got two dudes like Steve Jackson, two dudes like Matt Bonds and like Stephen jack You know what I'm saying. So at the two and three, so who they're gonna Who's

gonna really control them? But it all worked out, man, wrong, wrong, got one with us when we have something, went on the biggest stage together. Why not win the That's a my whole movie. Man, how much did you embrace the six man row? It's different now I'm gonna but that's again,

that's being maybe like you help me do back. You didn't want to, though, He no, so because I know what I know what I know that what it starts is like even if I average thirty every team, Now did I go to If I'm not with the leggers, they're gonna try to bring me off the bench. He looked at the big picture, you know, so listen to big Bro, Big get the chick. That's thing Bro, two thousand ten. Um, I get a chance to join you guys. That's a team. We're going for a three peeple. Oh yeah,

I just got worse. I think that was a year one. That was your six man year. Wasn't it a game being? Yeah, we got to have a spot. Come out the best. I always like what you do? Do it be the best m reality TV? The best reality TV show? I went there, y'all got it? Do it be great? Period? You know his ship Joe, just do it be on the free throw line, nigger, just make it. That's simple. I gotta I want to award. While I was filming a reality TV show in the NBA, they ain't gonna

ever be done again. And but the only thing places could be done isn't in l A. You got to do it with organizations that open minded to do something like that. You're on the biggest stage, You're winning championships with the greatest franchise in the history, and then you link up I'm Black Royal to you. Now you think up the car that's like, I'm gonna be honest with you, my guy. Yeah, I mean I got married in thirty days. Man,

I love that woman. I loved her. If I could have a a talk with year old of older, we probably shot the family fight like what the like, what are you doing? Cause I was like I was thinking, like I was unstoppable. We all did you know what I'm saying? I got a wife that and her world is probably just as popular as me. The extra bag. Koe Kardashian brought me a fan of Game seven. I woke up to my kids and drop top Fanom that was the drophead though. That wasn't that, That wasn't the Dawn,

the two hundred and fifty. That was the five, That was the one that was half a man, the big Boy. Yeah, I had one too, that was the half of man. But tell me, I mean you like I said, it, doesn't it doesn't get bigger than the Lakers. No, I don't, and they don't. You almost like you said, you met your match extra, you know what I mean. So that's that's what I was going to get to that what kind of different light and atmosphere did that branding put

you in? That was an incredible enormous like obviously, like I was only a New York nig could be handled that no offense to some people from anywhere else because you have only you have to be a star four he was a star to understand that type of like that that you're getting, because I mean, obviously I didn't even know how to handle it. You smell or handled it wrong some sense. I'm not married to anymore. Was it hard to just never be able to turn it off? Though?

Like you on ESPN and tnt WI, you're with the Lakers and then you go across and you're on the biggest reality show ever. Not never really real I'm a real one, I think at the end of the day, I'm a realist. So I knew when to be Lammy and I knew when to be number seven, you know what I mean? Was there a difference? I don't know. I would say I think I'm seven a little harder. Um, i'nna be honest with you, like one of the best times of my life, though you had a lot of mishap.

I remember the attempted trade to Dallas and then it ends up being a trade to Charlotte. Charlotte first, what was that like? Because you were completely bother I was disappointed at the end of the day. You know, I was having talks from my agent at that time, I remember, and he was reminded me how I helped build his um company, which Excel Sports Jeff Schwartz. He's like, you know, if anybody know about the business is you. You know,

you know what ain't other personal. I don't take your personal. It's the way to bounce. But I mean I was you can't. But you know, when you put in your heart and take a pay cut to come off the bench. You know what I'm saying, that you're gonna trade me, I mean, I'm gonna take a personally. But that was supposed to be the Chris Paul trade. They got vetoed by then. I wonder why they Why did the NBA that that trade Lake It's gonna be too powerful with

Chris BA m one of the great mysteries. Yeah, what happened? Mm hmmm. See, it was funny because we talked to Webb earlier about the situation where he had a no trade claws and he ended up saying, fuck it. If you don't want me, I'm gone, Like he said, that ship really hurt him and ended up going to Philly. It sounds like a similar situation, you like, they try to get you in that situation, doesn't work. But then

it's almost like the bridges burned at that point. Yeah. Yeah, it ain't traded me to That's like it was just the timing with the Dallas trade. That summer has seen some real wild crazy ship and give you a brief a little synapsis. So my cousin get shot in the head, all right, So he gets shot in the head, fly to New York or go see him. He's sitting there, eyes right on the back of his head's brain. Dad. Whenever I'm sitting there and talking to him, I'm gonna suck up. So I get in the car, go get

a haircut. Okay, gets the haircut. I gets in the car. The driver must know somebody I know. He hands me the phone. Hell them on what's they want to talk to you? And that split second, a dude on a motorcycle, he hits a dude on a motorcycle. Boom, the motorcycle flips over here hits the kid that's standing in the street. I woke up over to the kid. Now, meanwhile, I remember I just told you. I just came from the house, was seeing my cousin. He's brain dead. I walk over

see the kid. I said, Oh, Ship's dead. He's dead. Called Chloe like, oh Chloe, She's like, man, I just go back in the cars, go by in the car. Uh So the Dallas Trade Mark Human, I kind of like let him know where my head was. Yeah, you're not really getting a little older, Like this is what I've been going through this summer. You know, my head is all funked up. And then he's like, hell, this is that now you were doing to talk about data?

So he like died them or whatever. Uh So I get that there I'm playing like ship who getting on me in the worst way about this ship Mark Kiman. I'm like, like, I kind of told I told you where my head was, you know what I'm saying. Then we had then we whatever, man that ship was just a real crazy situation. Man. Then I'm playing in Memphis stinking it up again. He kicks me and my shin and gets trying to get my attention to play better and all that. I kind of lose it, like, yo,

give me the funk out there. You know, no man gonna put your feet on me. First of all, I don't care how many builders. This is postgame, No, this is during the game time kicks you like, like, come on them all. Like, I'm like, Vince Carter wasn't there out to beat his ass, so didn't know he was there wrong. M hm, put your feet on a young black man, Why don't you don't do that? But to his defense, I mean I was thinking it up extra right.

That probably could have been my worst standing basketball and my NBA career. And I'm sorry Mark Cuban for taking your money, but you was just as wrong to kick for putting your feet on me as wrong as I was playing. For real, that situation ends. You hit up, you know, downs off the court, end up getting or Chloe ens up filing for a divorce in thirteen, where's your head out? Obviously, the off the court issues are starting to really weigh on you. Yeah, that's the drugs though.

Talk to us about that because drugs. You first of all, you're you're shameful when you do drugs, and you know, and living in shame, you just put yourself in your at least to bad decision making, shame and anxiety and um yeah. And then you know, she's telling me she wanted divorce, and of course I got a divorce if she wanted, right, Um, then I give you something else, something good though too. So then I went to that

remember the day sign a paper with the divorce. So I'm like, I'm don't fulfill this fantasy I always got. I always see this money man ship on HBO. I'm gonna go pop up on now Cole. How do people come get me? Now? Meanwhile, I'm telling you all this. I ain't really tell a lot of people this, but I'm telling y'all this. I ain't do drugs that day.

You know what I'm saying. I don't know a lot of my memories, a lot of fried whatever from twelve shows, six heart attacks and all that that I had when I was down, But that day I didn't do drugs, all right, get to the Bunny ran ship whatever I think I'm gonna act out Boom Dick's hard all that I pop pass out and mother wrote, mother ain't do

drugs that there. I'm getting real with you. I wish they would let me know what the funk they gave me, because that had to be some good ship, because that ship had me put out that should three days, I've had twelve strokes and six heart attacks from something they gave you there, Hell yeah, damn whatever it was. My guy just a super like whatever it was, whatever that stuck me with. How they put that ship in me,

how they did it. But your mentor, so your mentor was just you were so there was so much going on. You were just lost kind of just get away. I lost my wife. You know what I'm saying. I would like you know I was just a Kardashian so I'm the queens, right, So I'm a black Kardashians. I'm a king, right, got took off my throne from my actions on some bullshit. Yeah, you know, but lesson learn you talk about that day and all the after effects. You said, what twelve strokes,

six heart attacks? When did you kind of start when you woke up from that? What's your what's your thought process. First, how I get here? That first thing you said, how I give my nigga? I was down down. If I go, I was down, Like go say your final goodbye to them are older. They told my family. I was all the way. And if we go to um see the sign right now, it's like if I go there, it's like a party because you made it. Because if that man is walking, I was all the way. Then when

I walk up, I couldn't walk. All talk now, I mean, you know, we big strong athletes, we sit here cheat the ship. We're talking like it's nothing. You know what I'm saying. I couldn't walk. Yeah, it's like all talk. I couldn't know verberts can come out of my mouth from man. But I'm gonna keep it real, tr I never really um question God or or lost any faith. M hmm, not one time. Not one time. And even like you would have to beat me down physically and to the question my faith and God like take me

like you take everything from me. You don't look like what you've been through, you still look good, you know

what I'm saying. Yeah, but you know it's so crazy because something like people be on the street, you know, whatever, I might be recognizable and like that, like yo, lord looks so good, Like I almost get like lightweight offend it, like yeah, like the expect me to look like a lot of people on the outside like they wasn't there, but we even us from being afar not being able to because you know, in my mind, I wanted to be at the hospital to check. You know what I'm saying.

You know how many you rock but around the world, we might wasn't there, but we know what you've been through. And to see you look like Lamar that I've seen in the NBA as a rookie, you look the same. For you to come up I come up out of all that and to look like you ain't went through none of that ship, bro, You know what I'm saying, It's motivation to a lot of people, whether you know it or not, you know what I'm saying, because a

lot of people don't come up by that ship. Bro, you know what I'm saying, A lot of people don't come up by that. So for you to be able to stand like you're standing as strong as you are right now, you know what I'm saying. That dealing with everything and being to dude, with the strong brother that we know. We gotta salute you for that, bro, because I know a lot of people wouldn't have made it, even if I don't really even express it verbally or

or actually say it. You know what I'm saying. God knows where my heart is at, right, That's all that matters. So he know, actually know him Like this is like beyond grateful. It's just to be living. That's real. Rat. What was that recovery process? Like, I mean, we've been through divorces, but I'm saying, like I said, on top of that, you're still dealing with an ailing heart and then you've got all these Now you've got new medical conditions.

Now you're just kind of happy to be alive. But still, like you said, the grind was real Tony training camps and you feel what I'm saying, um, but just always knowing that, like I know I'm gonna be able to walk again, and I know I'm gonna be able to talk again. You're like, you know what I mean, I think I couldn't hold my bowels, man, you know what

I mean. I'm the more older I'm gonna see this, see the sign in the hospital and these nurses has changed me every day and they know who the funk I am and who the likes is extra humbling, real rat, extra humbling come into that. And then this is even before I even really expressed that I didn't do drugs that day. So really the humility is that everybody thinking that I put this on myself, and I know that's one of the reasons why he ain't take me because

that on my back, you know what I'm saying. So it's just extra humbling experience. So I mean, so like nothing else could get me more damn in that situation. No money, you know, bitch, You know what I mean? How fly you think you are? Whatever? I'm gonna get through anything and everything. You spoke on run artests, showtime, documented, cried storm, and you spoke to mental health. Mental health. Mental health is where it's at right now. I'm trying

to close this deal with this company called PHM. I don't know if you heard a clubhouse at the clubhouse, trying to get my own room and clubhouse to support the whole mental health, especially you know, during the um COVID pandemic, and I know a lot of people probably been taking easy way out. Sniff some blow crack whatever pales OPI or you know what I mean, I sayin't really the way to go. What do you do when you do? What do you do when you have urges

like that? I'm gonna be honest with you. That's how I know I'm saved for real, because I don't even even think about getting high. First of all, I'll probably get sick and won't even be enjoyed. Um. You touched on mental health and how that's never been something that's black man. We discussed it. It's a sign of weak. We always think it's like it's cool for I'll do to be a little crazy, yeah, or just off. You know what I'm saying. He might need help, but it's

very important that we do. We can't be helping him block us up. You know they're gonna do that anyway. Real right, you lost obviously your mom at a young age. Um dad dealing with what he did with dealing with what he dealt with. He recently made the social media post um rewatching a Kardashian marathon and kind of think because you felt like, you know, that really surrounded you with a lot of love that seemed like it've been missing for you know, what I'm saying. It always wants family,

always family, right right. I get emotions some times too. Yeah, I lost my son, man, you know, life is just I never would think too much of myself. Man. You know what I'm saying that she could be taken from you instantly, But it also shows after everything, you're here for a real reason in fact. Yeah, and you know what, I will be honest with you, I kind of like really trying to just like I think that's like what I'm trying to, like still like find out what's that reason?

Is it? To get myself all the way back on completely? It is the help of a combination I think both. I think this is the human side of athletes that people don't really see and we don't even realize, you know. I mean, we go through stuff on the highest level with money and fame and this, but it's also we're going through real world issues. So you're doing and going through ship that other people have been through. Yeah, people think fame and money, race, No, hell no, I don't

understand the additions. The magnifies that the ash What was your last conversation with Kobe you remember before I'm gonna keep it all the way buckles. I had, um, I've been gambling what I'm saying, and they had old had kind of got like a little too steep where I was at that time, it was getting tight, you know

what I'm saying. And if you're in a bad situation, especially about some money, he ain't the one that you're gonna want to call, you know, if if you maybe if you have a way to work off the money, or you know what I'm saying, or you know what I mean, or just the whole something. I think you ain't going one ain't going One time a cab it up to strength. I put my pride to the side,

you know what I mean, and can call. He was like, you know after he went in he went in on you first lightweight, He was just like, how your people call my out people and then figure it out. Now that that was That was one before the last time I spoke to him. Last time I spoke to him, I don't I don't know exactly whatever was out, but it was just about being great. I think I think he might have been telling me about the body of my deta. He just did mhm, and just about being great.

Obviously gone much too soon. You made a very touching. I g post about him about what he meant to you and the time you guys shared can you can you? Can you touch me? I learned something. I learned so much about so much from him man off the court, or just from just about being a fly on the wall. What I'm saying, watching how somebody carried it, so you know what I'm saying. And extreme pressure situations on the court. Remember them photos that he did in all white, Yeah,

and everybody was killing him for it. M h. We played in Utah, the whole craw having pictures. There are pictures of them, every single seat in that crowd. Why did they do that having pictures? He still go out there, sir. Some people don't you talking? Let me tell something. They listen. They had a blow up doll and the blow up dog had a French Maid outfit on and had a sign around his neck that said no means no wow. That's how they do when you talk. I like the crowd,

but some mean old yeah I can. I'm not. I'm into the spirit of competition. I'm into that. But it was like your hold up, hold up. They threw a bunch of ticket at us that we believe team they was nigging this, nigged that bunch of white. But I'm just like, huh, get that out of here. They had a cardboard cut out of me and the jail uniform because I just got a trouble life size right under the basket. They don't play life size. The sixth at Carboral cut out me in the life that you know,

it was the uniform in life. They was in that jail down before Jack not with the with the pen stripe Joe, before he got the new teeth too up ship, that's ban. Yeah, they're crazy in Utah. Man, just crazy how life come at you fast? Who knows? Man, you know, I missed being though Dah, me too. I'm missed having a person that you know what I mean? He was had a ship together, didn't he. I just came not hear his name and not get not you know, get emotion,

you know what I mean. It's hard. But what he meant to us Man's like, Man, I was, yeah, yeah, I don't really, I don't cry as much as I should. I do ship, But that's an easy way for me to get crying. Like you know what I'm saying to go there, because I mean, can you know how you die, which might get killed. It was a little different and

being sick or totally different. We got a chance. You know, we did one of his last interviews, and before we actually interviewed him, you know, we was doing our thing here, but we was at his office and he was just so adamant on this next chapter of life, this next twenty of kind of shedding the image of who he was as a great basketball player, but stepping into now. You know, he like when I say he had a ship together, I'm not just saying like he had like

he just he knew what he wanted to do. That's what I'm saying. All times. Well, he he told me he was going to be greater in this next twenty than he was in his past. And I'm just like, how but he was dead set on being great and whatever. We could have been an ill coach. And you see how Elly had his daughter, See how really got Kyrie Tatum all his little disciples. They're all killing mit. Youll it's just like he's not with it. Michael Jong probably

would have never told him his secrets. How did you get into boxing? Pay day? I used to do, but now I used to not. I used to you used to box though a little bit. Yeah, I trained and when I played for the Lake is my best playing days. I used it as as training. I just noticed my my hand I got so much quicker. Um. Your disposition as a man changes too, you know what I'm saying. When you box, like a little bit more convertational, take

less ship. Motherfucker can't talk to you and kind of you know, everything happened in my life for a reason. It's probably have at forty one, it's good for me to pick up boxing. I wouldn't even mind investing in them a little boxing gym now, just because it's a great way to stay in shape. Yeah, I got on, I got some I do sometimes I gotta bag in my crab for real. It's a good way. Like you know,

it's a great cardio workout. Yeah. Like then you sharpening all the tools you just may need you hope you don't need. You know that how you trained you you whole jip you know. Yeah, I think let anybody went for GI your man space. It's about of discipline, So teach you at a discipline, breathing and all that, all that stuff. Yeah, meditation, I'm looking forward to seeing you squabble. Yeah, it's it's gonna be quick. I might play with what you want me to. Just play with them. It's only

three rounds. Yeah, just jabbing, just jabbing, Yeah, just his face. Come on, jab jab jack boom right, jab jab jack Right. I told you they the folks wanted me to box you. They hit me up like, hey, we got the more would you box tomorrow that next one? I wouldn't. I won't. I wouldn't watch that because you know, I am like, you can probably do that next one. Somebody out with trying to hurt you. Yeah, that was like the only three rounds. You got the head gear, we can knock

you shop out boom ready. They hit me up, and I'm just like, now I can't box my man. I was the same thing, you know what I mean, Like I can't box someone I funk with. No know it's supposed to, but you know what I think it's it's an opportunity for me just to promote the ce celebrity box and get more maybe as a leagues or the celebrities that want to box. Yeah, they said I heard maybe rappers. That's beef from you got you got the demeaning for us, and I ain't got the demeaning. I

got the plug. Yeah, and you said, uh a little redemption for Nate, Yeah, shout out Nate, my little a little bro homie. Yeah, I ain't really you remember how you Okay, I remember how you said on that when you said drink chance and sit too good with you? When I watched that Logan Paul and I'm joint. I've not infested this boxing ship because I said, Yo, I'm gonna use my boxing skills and fight Logan Paul. Real. Yeah, so I manifested all of this. You believe him in

the fication right, yeah, no question? Choking up, choking up, speaking and um real Rat, I was like, I gotta do something Nick, because they ain't really I said the same thing he was. I said the same thing that I gotta. I gotta go punch on Jake because our box to me and I'll go to the same place in l A. Nice. He is nice and he ain't. No little dude, Me and Al go to the same place in l A though. Yeah. Cound of pound Yeah yeah, real, Rat,

I seen his picture there. Yeah you're no, I ain't a little but she I one of them to do that. In boxing the way that I think a body titlan. He gotta be chucked because it's cool and all that. You're hard to wear him. Damn. You know he'll be here. You know it would be Ellen boxing too though too, though, will be Ill boxing to very iron though I don't think Ron might bite you. Ron ain't saying enough to

protect himself. And you knock him out, you gotta watch out for the rest of your life too, because you don't come find you, you don't come back. That's what I'm talking with me right, I'm gonna be I could win the fight if I look in the mirror after the fight and I see a little bust. I want more action. I still want action. So I'm not desp enough to be a box I want action at all. I used to play Aaron mckeees to. I used to

I'm gonna be ill fighting. He's like, you got too much fatty tissing on your face, Dope, we're coming down to the end. We got some quick hitters. First thing to come to mind, um go with uh toughest to guard during your career? Why, Tracy McGrady, you know everybody lives. I don't think he gets que setting me up for that. Q did tell me about QUE setting me up for that. He said about because I guess the Q knew the history of us, me and m Grady battling in the

high school. Ah So before the game, Q like, no, I jump ball. Q like, yeah, you're about the shoulder. Who who is this? But the show is that who the best? Right now? Right now? You know? T Man, he just like no salant. You see the face. He's just like he gave me like forty four. And I'm

gonna be honest with you. I'm gonna say, like thirty five and them probably was on me, even though like I had like a real good stat line and I think we won the game, if I'm not mistaken, had a real good stat line like seventeen nineteen twelve eight, something like that. But I'm gonna say, like thirty five of them shipters on me, like because he was he had my package, but he just had the athleticism top it off. You can handle that thing shooting, but he

just we go over you. He will go over the six eight take off, go over you seeing him do it. Then the dirt you know, he's shooting over the back of his head and got the wet ball guard that I ain't never really played against a body. And you know I ain't puss from the court. You know what I'm saying. I ain't gonna back down nothing, probably, but he's just that his motor. Yeah, his motor is enough to intimidate you if you you know what I'm saying, if you watching him layup line dunking it, yeo. I

mean he's playing against going net need de MANQ. You know, Um, that's the mouns idle Kevin. So we never played against Kevin Garnet the mounds showing up and Demail coming out talking and going that like these things out here, don't get this ship. My Diket is getting hard. Diket is getting hard. But I'm sick going that the whiskey and andigrady. But I ain't never seen no white play hard like k G. Yeah, he was animal. You plus four going to the black top? You plus four going to the

black top to get a dove. Who are you taking with you? Anybody? Four players? Whole boys from the from around the way. M hmm, you plus four. It don't matter, like you don't gotta go positions basketball. We're going to whopa pass you're taking with you to the you might have to fight hunting racks on the line. What what fo are you taking with you to the rucker to get this dog? One game four four plus four you and your five ye me y'all too, and give us a point guard. Just one game me y'all two and

God bless his dad being. I know, ain't gonna lose nobody nothing losing, no fight. No, ain't no nothing, no nothing. We're gonna defeated that not team, no team. That's that's the best gym. And I heard that question your top five rappers right now? Period? I wanted your top five periods, just ever, your top five rappers New York, a whole list. I'm gonna be bias. I'm from Texas, So what's yours? It's big and I don't want to hear somebody get and just go in. Yeah, I go j You're big

pun pun was dope. I don't think Big Airl was nicest Punka pun Ja, big Big Jay, the Kiss, Nas, Yes, solid right there. You can't beat that. Nas gets busy, super busy. But did he just wanted his first grandmar didn't he did? Here for keys disease. That's his first grandmy shout out here, boy, I'm not mistaken. Who did you have in your pregame rotation? Three songs from some something you used to listen to before a game? Sometimes it's so crazy because sometimes I listened to a slow gym. Ye.

I ain't have to listen to no motherfuckers. I'm already stupid en. I ain't even listening to nothing, crazy kid push out of need that I'm something to jail. So my best day was nay. Sometimes I'll go, I'll go groof there something. I always need someone a little bit. I need that in your love is king for the games. I didn't need no tool problem that the doom doom doof tell me that joint um outstanding, and then probably

something like get at me dog. Yeah, you can never get that wrong with If I wanted to really like you knocked me out, Get at me dog? Was we get me hyped next year? See? I didn't need that. I didn't need that. That was too much. That was over. I'd have been barking for real. Get at me doors onto my joint store. I ain't gonna hold you. If you can go back and relive one moment in your basketball career, Which moment would it be? And why when

I hit the ship the shot Verst. Atlantic versus Temple championship that was for the chip, that was for the championship, wasn't it? Why when I picked that time because the significance to win. We gotta win and go to the n C Double A tournament. YE used to look sweet in them, a little baby blue and white uniforms. I think all of all of all the hard times I went through as a youth. Right there, I let out. I couldn't even stand up after that mother fucking show.

I couldn't give it, give me the don't even do the press conference. I let all lot of emotions now and I was humbly, but I was the man. That was my moment. You feel what I'm saying? And then the aftermath of that game. Get back to the hotel, the whole state of Rhode Island. I opened the door to the hotel, the whole state of Road Island going crazy.
