Know what it is, Injury is the toughest thing for athletes to face, and you've had I've said, Ship, if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have no luck as far as it comes the injury run you've been on of Like, how are you mentally staying focused, locked in and and staying in good spirits because that's just

hard to do well. I mean I would be lying to say, you know, it hasn't been tough or whatever, but you know, I'm I grew up a lot different like so, and this for me, these injuries just another format verses. So when I say I grew up differently, like I've been facing that versity of my entire life. You've seen worse like I've seen words. I've had to deal with worse like so me trying to overcome hurdles like I'm almost kind of like accustomed to them because

that's all I've been used to. So not to discredit them, I mean, they were tough, but that's where that adversity is, you know what I'm saying. So I just kind of feel like these are the same time situations and take it a day at a time, and I'm gonna work. That's all I've done. My entire life is work. I'm not afraid of it. It's just another hurdle to get old. We got a chance to walk through that journey with you.

First of all, I gotta thank you because through me speaking on your resurrection or what's it called resurgence documentary is kind of how this whole ship happened because I spoke on it and and as I appreciate you, bro, you know, but anyway, um, what's the toughest part about this rehab process and not being able to do what you love, especially considering you've been in with the Golden State and not fully healthy, which could have want the title.

Now you're playing with the Lakers in Lebron and you're just not. So tell me what what's the toughest part about The toughest part is you know, missing basketball? Right? I love a hoop, Like I'm not the tall guy that just hoop because you know what I like because so you know what I'm saying, like, I really love this game, and you know, being away from that alone is hard enough, not even including everything else that comes

with being away from it. So that's what you lost in transition, especially athletes, like when we go through ups and downs, like even we mean with the broad Ship, when I got suspended thirty games, I was away from the game. That was probably one of the lowest points in my life because I played basketball my whole life. Nobody could take basketball from me. I can go play

it on the park, I go play it everywhere. So when the game was took it from me what I've been doing my whole life, like that ship took me down, like more than anything somebody can say about me, more than anything somebody could do about me, because that's what I love most. So when you go through stuff, people want to look at that, but don't look at the understanding. You just love the fucking game. You just want to play the game absolutely at the end of the day.

That's that's what we all do it, well, you know most of us. You know, that's what we love to do. So just being away from that part that it sucks, but um, you know, and you deal with everything else that comes with it. What non basketball things have kind of helped you deal with this stretch you've had. That's a good question. Huh uh. But uh, lean on family a lot. That's that's my backbone I got. I got a great group around me, Um keep me, stayle that,

keep everything and float for me. So you know, family in my in my group, that's that's really all I need. I got a chance see how strong your family is and not strong your group is. You know, you always invite me to your comedy shows every year, and uh, I just so happened to you invited me to the game the night you hurt your leg in the New Orleans and I was there at night. But I got a chance to see your mom and everybody embrace you.

And the fact that you still came to the motherfucking show that night, Like I wouldn't have bade to do that about it. Have a strong foundation, you know, all your people around you know that helped me get there. They had a lot of stuff going on. But to see you still show up, that showed your foundation and your family, your mom and them being on it, that was that was deep to me. So I was hurting, man to man, you didn't show it. Though you didn't

show it. You didn't show We laughed good shows are always classically because the comedians be seeing us in the front. Just start talking about you're doing one this year possibly possibly let me know, speaking of l A Man, how do you? How do you like l A like man? Um? Just the vibe different definition of the West Coast vibe, you know what I'm saying. So it's laid back, it's chill. I mean, if you're look into you know, to do the actress is plenty out here. You know, it's laid

back and that's you know, that's what I like. You possibly had a chance to go to come to the Lakers in two thousand and eighteen. It was a little man. I was supposed to when um, last second, I was like, you're supposed to get traded or free agency? Supposed to get traded? Really? Yeah, you

called it all. I called my agent and I'm cool now I won't And it wasn't even where was was that when the team was the Laker team? Wasn't that good? Back? Then no point. Yeah, but you know what I'm saying, you called my agent and I kind of got cold feet or whatever. You were a guy, I mean, you know Sacramento be in my hometown. Um, you you were a guy out there. They absolutely loved you, you know what I mean for all the hard work you put

in and you're in year out, did your thing. And then I was with you the last year leading into trade. And it was funny because when I came to the team, like I think someone was in the paper, someone called me the boogie whisper because because because they thought, you know that you listened to me. We had a real good line of communication. And it would be funny because like management will come to me, coaches come to me. Now that those trade down are not trading. We're not

gonna trade. Dont no, he's not getting trade. He's not this, he's not that. He's not okay to try to get back to him. Yeah, I mean we didn't. I mean, if if we talked about it, we talked about both and stuffing we would talking about But then to see did you really learn about your trade as you're getting interviewed at All Star, Yes, walk us through that. I mean so crazy thing is my um for that Also game,

my locker was right next to Russ. The rust just kind of holiday at me, like you know what I'm saying, I'm here some things, what's up with? And I'm just like, bro, like that's not gonna happen. So obviously he knew somethody didn't. So you know, end of the game, who kind of the interviewer you know, asked me a question and I'm just like, you know what I'm saying, what what what you're talking about? You know? He kind of hop my

No, I mean for Sack at the time, you know, such and such and such and such, just like damn, and I know I'm on camera, the world is looking at yeah, so I'm just like trying to play, you know, put my poker face and I'm like, well, yeah, I love New Waters. I'm just so happy to be traded in New Orleans. So I don't know, it just kind of worked out that way and I played it pretty smooth. But how tough was that for you? Because I know

your heart was was in Sack. Absolutely I wanted to, you know, finish my career there but at the same time, the way it went down, Like at the end of the day, we all noticed a business. They're gonna tell us whatever they there's ways to do things, a way. As much as I put into that city, like I just felt I deserved a little more so. But so that wasn't what you wanted. No, no, not at all. And we were making the playoffs for the first year.

The arena was open like all we had we talked about and I believe that's why they did the trade. They it would have been hard to do it if you made the playoffs. So we were talking about all we gotta do is get to be the a C funk around. Might win a game against Golden State, might not,

but it's gonna be crazy. I remember that. But then after that is when I, you know, I asked, I'm at the end of my career, I'm not trying to rebuild, because obviously you trade a franchise player trying to rebuild, and I'm old, I'm trying to you know what I mean. And then that's so happens like a week later, Katie hurt his knee and I've already been talking to Draymond

and Claire. I think, and then damn Coach kerk calls been like, hey, can you remember I was at KFC with the twins we had They had just got done working out. I was chilling, you know, getting dude, just relaxing, just enjoy some time off. We had just got done working out and we're at KFC and I get a call from Coach Kurry. He's like, yeah, welcome to you know. Unfortunately Katie went down and uh flying to Chicago tomorrow. The fun uh huh. And that's how it should happened.

That's crazy how teams can make theirselves sorry you even thought about that. You got all these fans coming by. You want to blame everything on the players, but it really it's the people. Higher was just making y'all so and manage. You meant to dumb it. People don't. It's simple. It's just simple. It's just simple. Trade a good players.

Now you say so your trade it traded to New Orleans and playing with a good friend and then arguably the one to combination the best big men in the game, Anthony Davis and you guys clicked in jailed and we're scary as fun. Oh man. We we talked about all the time four or five, pick and roll, y'all used to run. Either one of y'all can handle anyone, y'all can set the screen. That ship was dangerous. Oh my god man. We talked about it all the time. But

you know what I'm saying, Um, you just learned. You just learned so much about this business. Like the more you go through and it's just like, how didn't I see this in the beginning, But but you gotta go through it. You just gotta go through it. But back on in the war, you know, we clicked. It was something I believe, something like special. I think we could have been on the run once we got everything around. That's correct. It was no stopping Tim Duncan and Dave

Rapson on steroids what I called up. He just made that ship up right now. You wouldn't say any bathing. Go go go go back, go back, go back. Because I was working ESPN a lot around that time, someone find me to clip for fucking Jack's life. We can we can find it because I was working esp and find out where the steroid line come from. A D and find out that I say, called him and uh him and a D. Tim Duncan and David Robinson on the jump. Whoever finds that and we pick you, we

might let you come. You work, you work to jump, go ahead and tell him to do in the home ruck up. That ain't doing shit else I ain't doing ship anyway. So you go from it's supposed to be getting the Supermax. You're coming up on a Supermax deal, definitely well deserved if anyone deserves it. Your numbers and what you've done put you in that category. You come to New Orleans, you jail and then extra effort chasing the rebound down. You knew as soon as you did it.

You did it man like I said. It just shows you how this business goals. Man like. But just the breakdown on everything you just said to this point and just show you how to go. It ain't about what you've done or what you deserve, what you do and um, you know, it's just that's what it is. I mean, there's no way around. Yeah. So it's super funked up. But like you said, it's super fucked up. But that's just how it is. It's super you know what I mean.

So you go from possibly getting a super Max building an amazing team over there in New Orleans too no one really wanted to take a chance on you, until all of a sudden that one team that didn't really need you as good as you fucking are and as good as they were, take a chance on you. Became a warrior. Yeah, that was That was a dope experience. And just you, you and my team, you know how bad, Like you knew how important winning was for me. So just being able to see it happen and be a

part of it, like you don't see that often. It's a lot of players that would never get that opportunity. So it just opened my eyes and like I just viewed a game in a totally different way just to be able to. I mean I was terrible and final, like one leg there was one leg banded on the floor. But you know what I'm saying, I wanted to be a part of. Not only that I wanted to, I mean, this is in the finals, you play hurt. Wait till you you mean talk about this though, you know that's

when you let your body right right. So I went out there and I gave it what I had, I mean made it made a difference though, you know, I helped, I helped the spot. There was times where you yeah, I just I wasn't supposed to be on the floor. I say, sometimes as athletes, we need to be protected from ourselves. Do you regret because I remember we took we have phone calls. Remember right when you're about to

come back, and I was leading towards more. Don't like I was telling you, like, bro, you got a good eight to ten years left in your career. But coming from your situation, I completely knew, like this motherfucker wants he's misread because all he wants to do is win, and he's been in a bad situations that that don't win. So he's finally on a team that's gonna win. But he's coming off a major injury, you know what I I mean. So I'm talking to you, like, look at the big picture.

But at the same time you're looking at I'm like a playing with k D Steph. I got a chance to win a champion. I gotta go play absolutely, you know. So it's I really had the torn quad six weeks, but they came back and play, and came back and play. I had no business on the floor. How did you talk? How did you you know? Because because Katie went down, uh there, Clay went down on. It just made me go on, what did how did you talk your way

into being able to play? I mean, I know you don't really take no well, and you're kind of you're kind of big. I don't know if you got hands, but you know, I mean, how did you talk to your way to getting back on the court? Time you just had shot? What was that? Never change, bro, never change? What was your question? How did you get yourself back on the court? Knowing that deep down you did it because of the situation, but knowing you probably should though,

how did you get yourself back on the court? Kept telling myself, like, this is what I've played for my entire career to be on this stage, to have this opportunity, Like whatever I got to do that to be able to, you know, be a part of that, I'm gonna do it. I did a I don't even know how I did it, honestly, Like through the react Like I went in there the

first week. I laid in the oxygen chamber first week for like four hours a day, just laid there years Like brain feel like it's about to explode, bro, Like, but it was supposed to promote hill In and all that, So I did that the whole first week after that rehab every single day, maybe twice a day, so just to you know, be a part of that moment. And you know, I got the chance to do. I regret it. Hell no, Like that's what I hooped for, Like that's the winner lost. I was a part of that. I'm

okay with the results. I guess I got a little tastes of I wanted again. So it's all good. That goes to, well, how we grow up, Like we grow we see so much ship growing up, people don't understand. So when we get to adult and we go through ups and down, this ship ain't nothing. Man. I'm a man now, so you know what I'm saying, this ship. I can handle this ship. You know what I'm saying,

I'm supposed to deal with certain ships. And I always got to say that, Like growing up has made us strong enough to deal with certain ship that we had no idea that we was gonna deal with as a grown man. If you told me I was gonna deal with this as a kid, I don't know. Like, man's I gotta do what you feel me Like, I mean, if you sit around and soak about it, that's gonna help you like all you can do is go up.

You at your lowers, ain't getting the lower right. So you go from giving everything you had on one leg to you guys, lost your head into the summer, starting to feel good. Then you tell you a cl crazy thing is man car chilling? Right? So I do all that. I fly home that day I went to the gym. I had just landed crawl like cross country damn near and I'm like, I don't want to miss no days in the gym. Like that's I mean, I'm getting into that mode, you know what I'm saying. I don't want

to miss no day. So I go to the gym. I get there a little late day, towards the part where they're screaming, I ain't had no business being out there. I just wanted to get my burn like love for something, you know what I'm saying. I like to make sure I had a productive day. I had no business out there. Last play weird though, did he hit you? Run by you making I don't want to throw my dog out of the bus. I mean, obviously didn't mean to. Yeah,

obviously it was a slight bumping and just shifted. But that's besides the point. I had no business out there. Mm hmm. So you living, you learn, do you feel with the progress you've made that whenever you do decide to get back on the court, that you'll be able to be the person that was putting up forty and

fifteen in their sleep? Absolutely, Like you fee the body, you know, because I know it's feeling older, like I would start feeling like my like, damn, my knee is really yeah, So I'm you're not older, but you're just coming back off serious injuries. But you know, you know, in my game it was never That's why I told him before, it was never you whenever skill bullies. Yeah, nothing's gonna change debo with game. So no, I'm not

worried at all. I know you I know back with a D Man, I was sick when I got hurt this summer. I'm just like, I'm like, okay, we're about to get busy. And we got l too, We're about to get busy. Injury after injury after injury. Yeah. Um, and then so you're not playing now you're injured, and then off the court life which I can speak fully to you know, my my relationships have been public drag

drag messes. Um, you get into a situation where a recording is released out there, Um about a situation with you and you're one of the mother of your children and now someone saying that, Yo, they said, Boogie Boogie has a warrm for us arrest. I said for what? I was like, what take me through that? Um, it's an unfortunate situation. So you know, I had a special moment of my life. I want all my family be there, you know, a little piece of happiness going through you know,

whatever I'm going through. Um, James didn't work out the way I wanted it to for my day, you know. You I was upset, so you know I said some things I shouldn't have said. But that person knew what it was coming from, right. Um. I mean I've seen a lot of things, heard a lot of stuff. Don't get me wrong. I'm a hundred against you know, domestic violence, like a hundred percent. I watched my mother go through that as a child, So when it comes to that,

I'm I'm the first advocate for that. But with that being said, you know I said the wrong thing. He did a moment. We've all that, and we've all I mean, come on, when it comes to kids like and like you people. My mom said, you know what I'm saying, But it come to your kids, it's just nothing you gonna do. It's a whole another situation. I'm pretty sure every back with kids can speak on that. But it was still wrong. So what did you learn from it?

I'm gonna knocking my head off over mind buck all that. I don't y'all whoever feel about it, mine, I'm knocking your head off. I ain't apologize for ship. I don't get who y is. We're gonna leave that at that, go ahead, And I just want to say that y'all know who mine is too, Like heads off over mine. I ain't got time. I ain't playing the radio over mine. Goddamn right, your mom has played a big role in your life. To talk about how important moms is, I mean, I've been through thinking thing with that lady like, jeez, well, don't hurt. It's no talking about I'll be honestly like she. I don't know how she did it. I want to see I mean, mother six, you know what I'm saying all the same house. I remember her saying he was a badass little the big motherfucker to your brother, big motherfucker's well she was. They said he was a bad

little snotty nosed as little boys. Nah man, Nah, I didn't play a long time because so how I mean she was the rock, oh for sure, the foundation of our family. And you know, I just I've watched her. Her work schedule is just was insane, like, you know, thug it out during the day with us, night shift, she working you know, doubles. Had they ever see it? Yeah, So I'm off at school, she home, vice versa. So

I'm watching the kids, my brother watching the kids. Like you know what I'm saying, We figured it out, you know how we're doing. But just her work ethic, like that's all. I if it's one thing that I can always remember about my mom is that like she grinded, like yeah, and I'm like me growing up, I'm like, how can I not right? How can I not go hard?

And not saying I knew I was going to the NBA, because I didn't, but I don't, like I know, I'm gonna I'm gonna keep some paper in my pockets or nothing. You know what I'm saying. And I guess that kind of carries over there. You know the same thing with ball for me, like this is a NonStop grund. People just see, you know, the fame, the glamor of the money, the cause. You know, they don't see that ground behind the scene. It's a lot of talented ball players out here,

but it ain't. It ain't many last and ten fifteen in the league. It ain't. It may not be because of talent. It may not be because and that fast enough. They can't handle the ground like it's a commitment. Ain't off the court, No, the mental it's a lot we don't know. A bunch of times like how this dude not in the league at ground like no other. And they don't teach you how to prepare for you can't. It's either ain't you or it ain't. It can't be talk to you a blueprint. It's right about that. Take

me back to Kentucky. You got to have some amazing teams there, Coach Kyle, guys you played with it went on and playing the league and touching me with what the experience was like there. I was on the best. Just that's probably one of my favorite part of my entire basketballers dope like I had. That's one time where I just could be myself, just let my hair down, like just have fun, playing back to be a kid, like all of that combined. The one was that experience,

so by far the best moment by far. What did you learn from Coach kyl You're growing up quick? You ain't You ain't hear the babysitting and you see how I go next? Man, that's a machine. Make your man and get your Yeah, you got a year to become a man, not even a year, bablon. Yeah. Man up fall into somebody coming out and you know what I'm saying. So and I feel like that's that play a part, like you know, the hustle mentality, Like who's that with you?

Jay wall E, bled Patrick Patterson, Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggolds, Daniel Orton, Josh Harrelson. What is it about Kentucky that it's like a fine oil machine? You plug and play, you do what you do when you go to the league. What is it about there? The school with the cow is it obvious talent? I mean the school is just you know, the name on the front, but I mean it's the talent. The talent is the influence. Cow is the influence. And see what I can do with each

kid you trust in me. I'm gonna get you to where you want to beat and we're gonna win games and kick ass at the same time. You know what I'm saying. So this the influence. They on Kentucky just came out with like a list, like the most influential players the past decade. A d John myself. This goes along, but it's just crazy to see like this is in ten years and it's like, I'm like, damn, I forgot to even win here. So it was dope to see it was dope. It's a factory. I think you're one

of the most misunderstood people. I think we touched on it early, and I think that's why you and I got along, because it's our passion and competitiveness to win jack same way, and then our emotion get the best of us. So we all here cutting our refs or almost getting in fights, and people look at you as a a thug or a bad personality or someone you can't win with. Explain your passion for the game to people that don't know that just think you're like they thought.

I was just an asshole when I start off, from the beginning, I was always I've always had older like homies or older I was always around older like older guys, the O g s, whatever the case may be. So when it came to who I was bigger as a kid, I was a baby, but it was bigger. You gotta gonna play with them. I'm playing with the teenagers grown in, so I'm gonna have to do a little extra, you know what I'm saying. You you develop a different type of you get better, you get better, but you got

to come with a different type of aggression. You ain't just out there being cool. So that's how I started playing ball. That's why I played with the aggression that I do play with. So with that being said, I love to win. I hate to lose more than I love to win. So if I feel like in a way you affected me winning this game, you and my way brand, I ain't feeling you know what I'm saying. So that's just my approach when it comes to the game.

It maybe the rev it may be another player, you know what I'm saying, But you in my way right now? Are you affecting the outcome that I wanted this game, So you may not get a good reaction. I know I've been there. Matt was your teammate. What was it like being teammates with this character? I was a teammate with him, Golden State. You know, have a good time, party, win game. We won games though, we made history together like a motherfucker. But what was What do you like

as a teammates beside of the asshole? He was so chill? Stop lying, I'm really not lying the chillers, dude of it. You know, the same slick comment I got. Really, what's the biggest game y'all had against each other? Do you remember? Numbers wise? I almost had like a forty point trip dub. You don't want

to admit it. You know what it is. You know I used to like you say, like to see player against because y'all told my favorite big man. Oh man. I used to love bumping. I love saying I play when I play Zebo, I know that night they're gonna let us play. Yeah, you're gonna get like some old school nineties I love he said the one ship he said in my hood, bullies get bulled off. Y'all split. not something we really spoke on. But the social justice component in you and in the giving back in you and what you will always try to do with every community he touched. Bro, I've watched this cycle just just over and over and over and people in my neighborhood, people, and I got a little homie that I was watching grow up in Sack and JA or now like it's just a nine ending psychle and it's like nobody really has an answer. But what can I do to help? You?

Know what I'm saying, Like I'm gonna bring some joity of life. I'm gonna if you're looking for advice, I'm gonna talk to you. I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna drop some knowledge on you. You know what I'm saying, Like it if it's an opportunity, if you need inspiration, whatever the case may be, Like, what is it that's gonna help it? And I'm just tired of seeing it. I'm tired of seeing it. And I mean, I don't

watch talented dudes. Just I had a teammate shout out KT like six nine could guard every position on the floor. He locked up. Now he had a horrible life, horrible life orphan you know, grew up tough like group on, group on, group up, So we had it bad, but you know he had ball. Was it a reality for him that, you know, maybe as an NBA probably not growing up where we find that type of stuff don't happen.

You don't see those happening every day, So I can I can totally understand where And it was the same thing for me. It's like it's it can't be a reality like me going to the NBA, no matter how many people was telling me, Like I don't know about then n N N B A like that ain't happening, So it's not a reality. And what their reality is banging, selling drugs, robbing, you know, whatever the case may be,

that that is their realities all we really know. So it's like what one of my good friends back home, he tell me, shout out a little tell me all the time. It's like, bro, what you're doing, Like, ain't nobody never seen this? Um, you've been to my block parties and like people never seen that. I'm bringing free performance, is free food, free music, giveaways, it's a combination of stuff,

and it's like just mind blowing to these people. They've never seen it, and it's like the great Now, I can't wait till the next They got something to look forward to. They're putting on their flies closed like this is an event, like this is you know, and it's just a day in the park. But they've never seen it before. It's not a reality for them. M hm. So how can I help? And that's really how I

go about it. I wish people could understand because, like I said, I mean that's why I think, really you and I get along so wes because we're so safe as far as the stuff we do off the court, the reputation we had on the court, but then the people we really are, you know what I mean. Like I said, I think, and like I said, Jack the same way I mean, we wear a heart on our sleeve. But we love people, We love peace, we love happiness.
