Episode description

Sermon Series: Romans (Heaven Sent)
Sermon Title: Faith and Promise
Bible Passage: Romans 4:13-25
Preacher: Robin Vonk
Date: 4th May 2025, 6 pm

In Romans 4:13-25, Paul continues unpacking the story of Abraham to show us how God’s promises are received—not through the law, but through faith. This Sunday evening, Robin Vonk will help us see that Abraham's unwavering trust in God wasn’t just about his own future—it was a foreshadowing of the kind of faith that saves us today.

God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations—not because Abraham obeyed perfectly, but because he believed God’s word. And despite his old age and Sarah’s barrenness, Abraham did not waver in unbelief. He trusted that God had the power to do what He had promised.

Paul tells us this wasn’t written just for Abraham’s sake, but for ours. The same God who kept His promise to Abraham has kept His promise to us in Christ. Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and raised to life for our justification. When we put our faith in Him, we too are counted as righteous.

This passage is a beautiful reminder that salvation rests not on what we do, but on what God has promised—and what He has fulfilled in Jesus. Come and be encouraged by the unshakable hope we have when our faith rests on the sure foundation of God’s grace and His gospel promise, guaranteed through the resurrection of Christ.
