Episode #11: "I'm Just a Duck" ... My Thoughts on Imposter Syndrome
Episode description
Let's talk about impostor syndrome. We see things on social media and we have a sensationalized perspective around how we think other people's lives are unfolding and what's really going on.
I've had so many people through the course of my life say that I always have my shit together. And I think that's really interesting, because oftentimes, what seems like I've got my shit together, is really just a hot mess that's about to boil over on the inside.
And so I like to tell people that I am a duck. And so what do I mean by that?
When I say I am a duck, I have gotten to a place in my life where I'm able to hold my posture that allows me to be the biggest version of myself, yet what people don't understand is oftentimes what you see on the surface, is different than what is really going on. I think we're all like that in some capacity—we have these masks / layers, that allow us to show up when we need to.
While we create the stance—this opportunity to show up, we're like the little duck whose legs under water are going a mile a minute. And so when I say I'm a duck, I mean I have gotten really good at being able to control the energy in the upper half of my body, whether I'm on video, whether I'm sitting at a board meeting, whether I'm connecting with a new client, and oftentimes when I feel the imposter syndrome creep in, the remainder of me is going a mile a minute.
