Angus at Work Podcast Launched March 2

It’s no secret that cattlemen and women are busy, and no two days look the same. That’s why the Angus Beef Bulletin team launched its new podcast, Angus at Work, March 2 to give cattlemen another option for on-the-go information.
Today’s cattle industry is complicated by rising input costs, a fickle marketplace and pressure from outside industry forces. Angus at Work will help producers stay informed on topics that affect their bottom line.
Kasey Brown, associate editor and one of the podcast hosts, says, “One of the most interesting parts of our job as editors is getting to talk with cattlemen and industry experts around the country. So often we aren’t able to use everything from an interview in a story, but now our audience can listen to these experts themselves.”

CAB Insider: Market Update
Adapted from a release by Paul Dykstra, Certified Angus Beef LLC
Commodity and equity markets have been in disarray for better than a week now with the global uncertainty brought on by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Of course, equity markets had already been in a downward trend on inflationary pressure and the forecast that the Fed would be increasing interest rates throughout the year.
This market turmoil elicits several concerns in ag, such as escalating oil prices. Not only will fuel prices begin to reflect this in the very near future, but high oil prices result in high fertilizer prices. Fertilizer has already undergone seemingly unbearable inflation prior to oil toying with the $100-per-barrel price range.

National Farmers Union Concludes 120th Anniversary Convention
Adapted from a release by Lyndsey Medsker, National Farmers Union
The National Farmers Union 120th Anniversary Convention concluded March 1 following the adoption of the organization’s policy book and special orders of business. More than 450 members and guests convened in Denver, Colo., to set policy positions and priorities that support American farm and ranch families and strengthen rural communities.
Delegates to the convention adopted the National Farmers Union policy book and five special orders of business that will guide the organization’s government affairs priorities during the course of the next year. Before the policy review began, they re-elected Rob Larew as president and elected Jeff Kippley as the organization’s vice president.
