In this episode of Air Traffic Out Of Control, Air Portugal flight 208 is taking off from JFK but radios back to the tower to request a return to the airport.
It turns out something struck the aircraft soon after take off and the pilot is exercising extreme caution.
You will hear the tower request the remaining fuel and souls on board.
Even thought the pilot does not declare an emergency, the tower clarifies that an overweight landing is always an emergency based on their protocol.
