I'll hit. Start. Oh, welcome to against the grain the official Everglades golf course, superintendent's, Podcast. your ultimate source for the latest chapter news, exciting events and in-depth industry interviews right here in the heart of the Everglades.
Yes, yes, welcome back to against the grain, ladies and gentlemen, I'm here with Dave. Messy again, Dave, how are you surviving.
I am. Oh, I'm fantastic. Yeah, it was a good. It was a good time. I played golf both days and both days. Yeah. Didn't die so.
So your opinion on the Friday event, the Gc. Horn, was it faster.
I don't know that it was.
Because it was just as hot.
I was like. It wasn't as hot, I feel like, but I feel like it was still a long time. It was a it was. It was long, I think we got done at like 5, 30, or 6.
That's still faster, I think, than.
Yeah, I mean, it wasn't 7 o'clock. Yeah, I wasn't, you know, hitting dusk, but it was good.
4 man scramble should have helped that out.
Yeah, yeah, probably a little bit. I feel like, Saturday still was about 5. What what did I say? Tell you was like, 5 h, 9 min, or something like that. I timed our round at so.
That was about ours.
Yeah, yeah, we kind of kept pace. It wasn't wasn't getting too slow or anything so. but it was great. It was good. I've gotten a little better.
At golf.
Yeah, from like a hundred yards out, I can do. Okay, yeah, I could hit the I was able to hit the green. My philosophy, was I? Just? I'm not paying attention to what club I'm going to grab. I'm just going to grab a club.
Oh, that works out well for a lot of people.
And it worked out great. sure. And then and then I was like, Okay, I'm just going to keep using this club. So it was it was good. How about you?
We had a great time, you know. Family came in on this one. Nice worried. It was going to be their last Po or not. So I think they did. Okay. The girls did so.
Yeah, yeah.
I didn't get a full review of my wife yet to see if if we are going to have the kids return, so we'll see.
The kids.
Had a great time, so.
It. Probably it probably helped keep the nights a little end a little sooner than normal.
Yeah.
I feel like it didn't get, you know. Wasn't as loud this year. I'm pretty sure I didn't see anybody walk into the lobby on Saturday night, and immediately turn around and leave who was trying to stay at the Ritz. Well, that's because we.
Have the ballroom dancers there.
Oh, that is, that's right. Yes. they learned real quick. They said, no, we're not gonna renew with those Poe guys there. And we're yeah, yeah. I still think we gotta find a way to have them. Just keep the pool bar open for us.
Yeah.
If it's such a bigger space we can be loud. I think they I mean, they would make up in in being able to have, say, 2 bartenders there. and just.
Revenue they would get just.
Yeah.
You know.
And you've got, you know, cornhole right there that guys can play. And you know, just I feel like a better vibe of being able to hang out if we were able to do that. So.
Yeah.
We shall see. Oh, I was, gonna say, even you mentioned the kids, we've got the pictures. I just got all that back from the photographer for the Luau. So yeah, so.
Harold, we get that out.
We'll email that out to everybody. I've got you signed up last year to see it to get access to it. So I'll email that out. And we'll email out it out to members as well with the link. And you can download the high res picture and do with what you want.
Perfect. Yeah, it's a good little feature they got between that the face painting, you know, and the band.
Oh, yeah.
So.
I know I was a little upset. You didn't do the face painting this year.
Maybe next.
So I saw one. I saw one adult with face paint, on which which, looking at him, made me realize, yeah, I can't. I can't do it.
Ones.
Yeah, there was one like a tiger.
Was alcohol involved.
I'm going to assume I'm going to assume. It was early in the Luau, but not.
That would be a good.
Early in the day.
You know, talking smack to a different team in the screen. But hey, here's the deal. If you lose, you gotta get your whole team face painted. Yeah.
Get it all face painted.
Tony the Tiger.
The yeah, with whatever animal of our choosing.
Gotcha.
I take that bet on somebody.
That'd be hilarious. That would be. Photographer would go nuts with that one.
Yeah, right? Can you imagine? Next year, as our president, you are up there announcing the 50 50 raffle and and handing out golf prizes, and your face, Gabe is painted like Tony the Tiger.
I can't do that.
Oh, you can! Oh, you can! That would be awesome. That.
See how it goes.
Yeah.
But no, it was just. It was exhausting for us, and, thanks to all the Board members, there.
Oh, yeah.
And they put a lot of work. I'm up taking credit for myself. It was a whole team of everyone.
Yep.
Dan did a great job, a lot of behind the scenes, a lot of planning before. A lot of work and effort that these.
These events are not easy to to put on, especially at this scale, and to get everything to come together pretty flawlessly is impressive. So yeah, kudos to everybody.
And, thanks to everyone there at the Ritz and Tibron Grayson, the golf courses were awesome.
Yep, all of our all of the partners.
With it.
Thanks to to all of them.
They're the ones that help us afford it.
Yeah. Yeah. And then you know the ones out on the golf course, helping keep us hydrated and fed some of them. So yeah, all around, you know. Thank you. Couldn't do it without you guys.
Good time looking forward to 2026.
Yes.
At the Ritz again. We got a couple more years there.
Yep, yep, yeah, it's nice. I've kind of grown into this schedule of like. Okay, then Sunday is is like a lionel. Richie feels like Sunday morning plan, just relaxed by the pool.
Having some chip and guac.
I felt good, I felt it felt good.
How late did you stay on Sunday.
I think it was. It was before. probably a few minutes before midnight. It wasn't too bad. There were still a number of people. No, no! Oh, on Sunday. Oh, no. yeah, someday almost telling on myself. On Sunday I stayed. I was like 1130, 12 o'clock.
Yeah, the kids had to go 1 1 last round around the pool.
Okay, yeah. Yep. Just kind of hung out. Soaked it all in, and then went back to the real world. But yeah, no, it's awesome.
I know everyone had a good time. You want to know why.
Why?
I had like 0 calls on like Sunday or Monday about the event, you know, or I lost something, or this and that.
Okay.
And then today, Tuesday, as we're recording this, it was just like text message text message about this that.
And you know.
Did you guys take 2 days to recover? Is this what happened.
Right? Yeah. Somebody had had a pretty good time.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, that that's good. It's kind of the wrap up. Now, going into this this last event of the season of our membership season membership year with the annual meeting coming up here. Kind of what? June 19.th So, and that's it. Going to be at salt leaf. So that'll be another good one. Hopefully get a lot of people showing up for that.
Certainly. Yeah, we have some more details on the website. As we get it. We don't quite have of a cost just yet. So still working on details on that. But we do know it is June 19.th Salt Lake.
June 19th at Saltleaf members. Only event. So that'll be good. As soon as we get all the the details wrapped up. You will all get an email and see a post on social. But but what else is going on? Anything anything else? Or you think we want to kind of wrap up and get out.
I think so, still recovering from the poet, and we just started our closure. So that's not a late one for me.
How long are you guys closed for.
4 weeks. So.
Wow, okay, nice. Nice. Get a lot of stuff done.
That's the plan.
All right. Well, I guess we'll take this time. We'll go ahead and wrap it up. Get out of here! Let Gabe get back to his four-week closure. And that's right. Get to bed.
