006 | It’s International Women’s Day (March 8 2024) and to celebrate the day we have looked into the past, the present and the future of rural women in New Zealand.


We dig into the land girls, who kept the lights on and the troops fed in WWII, without recognition until 2011!!!!!!!! Discuss the transition from city life to farm life in the early 60’s with Emily’s Nana - Margaret Gualter.


Look into the Agri-Women’s Development Trust and the great work of Lindy Nelson to get that off the ground, the fantastic strides women have made, even in just the last few years

  • Emma Poole - Young Farmer of the Year 2023
  • Kate Acland - first female chair of Beef and Lamb
  • Anna Nelson - chair of Silver Fern Farms, first female chair of a major meat company.

And finally we look to the future, discussing agriculture in schools, TeenAg and the Fairlight Foundation.
