¶ Introduction to Wishes and Regrets
So, good afternoon, everyone. My name is Luis Rodriguez, and today I am the moderator of this podcast about wishes and regrets. With me is Mrs. Erika Ray, Mrs. Caitlin Ramos. And me is Geraldine Herrera. And today we all are going to talk about some experiences that we, I don't know, maybe had or we wanted to have.
about anything that maybe comes to our mind i don't know So, this is like a really interesting space in which we are going to express our feelings, express our opinions, and I don't know, maybe our things that...
¶ Defining Wish and Regret Concepts
no one knows that we have online about wishes and regrets. So I think that the first the first thing that we must do is like contextualize. little bit what we are going to talk about so first of all I want to explain you what it's the mean of a wish a wish is a desire to do something Many times when we are, I don't know, wishing something, we are trying to reach some things or someone or some situation, some, I don't know, some anything that.
maybe it's an impossible for us so that's the reason we call wish to that thing but also I think that sometimes the wish is only the want to do something we want to do something i want to do something he wants to do something so that's also the meaning of wish and Maybe this word is related to words like hope or like desire. So you also could say that a wish is a hope or a desire. And that's something that...
that maybe help us to understand a little bit better what is the meaning of wish. And also, I want to contextualize you about regrets. Regret is something that, I don't know, maybe we could express in two sections, two definitions. Maybe regret are like the feeling of maybe
didn't do something or not having done something that you already done or change your mind about the things that you already done. So. Since I already tried to explain what are these words and what are these concepts, I want you to, I don't know, maybe Erika.
¶ Erika's Career Wish and Regret
Erika, you are here with us today. So it would be nice if you want to express yourself about some kind of wishes or regrets or, I don't know, maybe some kind of experiences that you already had. about this topic and please share with us what are your feelings and what are your thoughts about that. Okay, thank you, Luis. Yes, of course. First of all, I want to say good afternoon for all of you.
And yes, I want to share with you a wish, but it is also a regret of my life. This was when I finished my secondary school, when I finished it. And I had to select a career, you know, and I wanted to study something about like medicine or be a nurse.
And also I have to add into account the money, you know, because medicine is an expensive career, you know, and also you need to have a... a lot of time like oral time also you have to learn many things because you will have a big responsibility right because you will have a sorry you will be a doctor So I say, no, I don't want to be a doctor, maybe a nurse. And I try to enter a university. And I tried, but I couldn't enter. So I decided to start thinking another thing.
to select another career so that's my wish like to be a nurse or a doctor but for some things of my life okay so Tell me. No, I just wanted to know if on that wish that you had on that time, I don't know, maybe you felt that... Maybe it was something that maybe was not for you or what were your thoughts when you received the... the answer like no you didn't enter to that career so so what was like the experience that you had about that of course um yes i felt really bad
when I tried to enter the Indiana because I was with a big hope like, yes, I am going to be a nurse. And I felt so excited. and when i like you know the list the people that are or or not and i didn't sell my my name i was like oh No, you know, I felt very bad. Yes, of course. I think that that career, it wasn't for me because now I can identify that I have a very good English and I all the time have a good pronunciation.
It was just that I didn't understand the English because I didn't try. But when I really tried because I went to a language center. I understand that that is my my career, you know, like the life is telling me, come on, be a teacher, be an English teacher. So, yeah, that's my experience and my wish and also our regret.
So I don't know if Gerald, Geraldine, wants to continue? Yes. I feel curiosity about your... choosing that career because how do you say when you say to the people that you are going to study for be a teacher the people generally or I don't know it's just to me And just you, because I say, you don't have many money. That's very difficult because I don't support my children and all this. other youngs or other kids so what animated or motivated you to
to study that? My motivation was first, my good English and second, I love to teach. I'm a good teacher, I can say that. Because when I was at school, I helped my partners with their homeworks and they understood me when I tried to explain them. And I noticed that when I started to want to find a career. I don't know where to want to be a nurse and then be a teacher. But yes, I love the kids. I love to teach. I have many patients for that.
and yes for that reason i think i'm here that's good i think the students will have a great teacher with you Well, I don't know if Kathleen has a question for you or not. Because I want to share experience. Yes? Okay. Yes. Erica, wouldn't you wish to try to study that medical degree later? For example, in the next... to yours um i'm not sure i'm not sure because right now i don't want to study uh nurse
I don't want to be a nurse right now. I just want to make my specialization. Let me ask you something. Why don't you want to study that thing? Is there something that you regret about something of your past or something like that that make you take that decision? changed my mind about that career because um i i changed my my likes i don't know if that's correct my likes my
My goals, because now I'm in another career. So right now, I don't want to be an artist because I can't see myself in that career. I just want to continue with my profession and also make a specialization. I want to focus on this career because if I finish this career and then start with another... like have a different uh professions i don't know if i could continue with with what career i don't know So that's why I changed my mind and I regret that career.
Okay. So, Erika, thank you very much for your experience. I don't know, I think it's like time that we... That we listen to, I don't know, Caitlin. Caitlin, do you want to share something with us today? Yeah.
¶ Caitlin's Travel Wish and Visa Regret
i want to tell you sometimes that happened two years ago they signed me a visa to the united states I wish I had the opportunity to travel to a foreign country like the United States. If only I had... applied for a study visa and no a tourist visa so i feel that everything will have been different but honestly I recall a little that I didn't keep trying to get the visa. I will travel when my visa is accepted. I hope, I hope. Wow. Kathleen, I have a question for you.
to travel can you repeat please what place do you want to visit I want to visit the country United States. okay i have a question how do you feel if if the visa is doesn't accept it i don't want to be I feel very, very sad and surprised because I don't, I don't, I don't, this is this. This answer, I expect this answer that my visa are not accepted. I know that feeling because I was in the same situation once and my visa was rejected. So that's not something so happy.
uh i know uh i remember that i just said like okay so usa didn't want me to be like that so i'm going to visit other country and then i went to brazil so maybe i don't know we as as latin american people are like really i don't know thoughtful about USA and all that stuff but I don't know I think that that kind of things are like segregation I don't know so
So if I had to say something about regrets, I think that I regret a lot to ask the visa because I spent a lot of money. I spent a lot of time. I used my... vacation time to do that and it was it was worthless so I don't know I feel the same because I had like a similar experience as yours Okay, so I think it's time to listen to Gerald. Geraldine, are you there?
¶ Geraldine's Missed Opportunity Regret
I want to talk about experience many years ago but I feel we regret many times what is past many many times you think why do what I don't do that or why I don't say things but it's okay I suppose okay In 2016, I think, I guess, I have a good opportunity in my job. But I was passing many problems and I have a bad emotional intelligence. I have many problems with that, so I reject.
I cannot in that moment. So I think how would be my life if I take... this opportunity but I don't know we regret many things but I think all that is happened to us all that was happened to to us for some for a specific reason for make that we are now all that we are rich And all the decisions that we have taken are, I don't know, make us who we are.
¶ Collective Reflection on Wishes and Regrets
today that's it i don't know if you have any questions okay thank you thank you very much for your participation i think that you did like a really good reflection about what wishes or regrets maybe are in our lives And I also wanted to say that all your stories are really amazing. I mean, there are a lot of things to say and we as human beings could, I don't know, live. a lot of things that maybe made us think or act in a different way. And regrets and wishes are that.
are like things that we thought that we feel that we experience and and it's really amazing to to share with you all these kind of things i think that as a conclusion we could say that we all as as human beings as persons as i was telling you uh have lived a lot of situations
that maybe put our feelings into a thin line between wishing something or being regret or or something else but The experiences and the wishes and the things that we regret today are the things that in this moment are building who we are. building the teachers that maybe we in the future are going to be and also building the criteria and I don't know the the Necessarily strong to be a teacher of a foreign language on this country that has so much things to improve that needs a lot to be.
more bilingual on these days and also that needs to have teachers that take care about their students and not also like i don't know being like on mind with our salaries or something like that no it's it's different it's like being conscious that we are going lives and these lives are going to have wishes and we maybe could be part of that path or that road that our students are going to to build in order to get to their wishes so i think that could be all for this podcast i want to thank
¶ Concluding Thoughts and Farewell
Caitlin, Erica and Geraldine for their participations. I think their participations were really accurate for this thing. And I don't know if any of you want to add something. If any of you want to say something else before we end this podcast. Thank you, Liz. I hope that we can make it possible. uh wishes that we haven't haven't been able to make come true blessing and thank you thank you okay thank you very much caitlin
Also, thank you, Erica. Thank you, Geraldine. It was a really nice space to talk with you and know yourselves in a little bit more deep way. So I think we could end this with a good reflection. So thank you very much. Thank you. Bye bye.
