Episode 5: Where are you really from?
Episode description
We created this podcast under our shared identities as adults new to adulthood but one identity we haven’t addressed yet is our Asian American roots. As Asian American hosts, we recognized that we couldn’t talk about all parts of adulthood without sharing about our Asian identity because of its strong influence in our lives and experiences. In this episode, we talk about how our ethnicity has played a role in our adulthood experience and how we hope to keep in touch with our culture and pass it on to future generations. We also hope that after listening to this episode, people will finally stop asking us, and other POCs, the unwarranted question of “where are you really from”.
We want to note that while there are many issues commonly touched on about Asians and the Asian American identity such as the model minority myth, the fetishization of Asian culture, and Asians in media and pop culture, we intentionally decided not to cover them in this episode as there are many other incredible resources that do cover these issues more in depth.
