Episode description

"Show Me a Denarius"

Luke 20:19-26

Sermon Sunday

"the chief priests and scribes sought to arrest Jesus immediately because they perceived that he had spoken a parable against them. However, they feared the people and did not want to provoke them. They watched Jesus closely and sent spies to catch him in his words so they could deliver him to the governor's authority. The spies pretended to be sincere and asked Jesus if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus, perceiving their craftiness, asked them to show him a denarius and asked whose image and inscription were on it. When they replied that it was Caesar's, Jesus responded, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's." They could not catch him in his words before the people and were amazed at his answer, holding their peace."
