Intimate Practices: Poetry - Amy Chesser
Episode description
This week we were joined by another guest speaker, Amy Chesser. Amy has spent time studying her Masters of Divinity at Tabor College – focusing her capstone project on the poetry of medieval mystics.
Exploring the spiritual practice of poetry, Amy shares with us about how we can chase after and be intimate with God. Looking at what the bible says about our hearts, what shapes our heart, and how our hearts can better line up with God.
Amy introduces us to a practice that the church has been doing for 1,600 years, that can help us draw nearer to God, Lectio divina. Meaning ‘sacred reading’, this is a deliberate practice of reading the bible – taking the time to let God’s word sink that little bit deeper and allowing our hearts, our inner most self, to take in the words in a different way.
As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. Proverbs 27:19
