Questioning our judgments of others is essential for developing empathy and understanding. It's particularly important when considering people who are unhoused.
Homelessness isn't one size fits all. According to Utah’s 2023 homelessness report the average time individuals are homeless in Utah is about 73 days, and only 27.2% are chronically homeless.
Many people struggle with mental illness, and it can make life very challenging. Unhoused people are no different. Some struggle with mental illness and some do not.
The 2022 statewide Point-in-Time Count revealed over 3,500 sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a given night — but that number doesn't completely capture the full picture of homelessness across our state.
