Well, Kia ora koutou katoa, that's Maori for welcome to you all, listening to this. This is Sound a life with John Holt. I'm John. And this is a real experiment. For me. It's the first podcast I have looked to produce myself. I've tried a few things with other folks. And I've really been looking for a medium to share ideas, and really kind of keep folks up to date with what I'm doing. Surprisingly, there's a bunch that are interested in that. And also across the range of things
that I do. I have a number of people I meet every day, every month, who we share ideas, I listen to what they're working on. They listen to what I'm working on. And we try and exchange value in terms of things and sites and folks to talk to that could be really useful for their journey, even just to grab some additional perspective on the things that are challenging challenging them, and how they can actually accelerate their organization
into the world. And in the last 10 years, I've really been focused on that from both are purposeful in a profitable side of things. So I call myself a capitalist for good. And that was out of a discussion I had with a friend and someone I value their perspective on a bunch of things in the world, coming from a journalism and economist background, and more about that later. But really, it's just opening this up. I tried it on substack. And I am going to put a lot of the
resources on substack. so that folks can see links in references to the things that I talked about. I'm hoping to grab some interesting guests to share their stories and reflect on some of the topics that I'm going to inject into this over time, probably about every two weeks, I just find as I'm sure a lot of you have that everybody has grand plans to start a podcast, that creating content
and getting it out there. But I have found that is I know, others I've talked to incredibly hard to really keep things moving alongside all of the other demands you have in your life around not just business, of course, but family and balance. So I'm trying this because I got, I think one decent post out on substack with a original goal of finding something out there every week,
and just got busy. So I think this is a great opportunity to find some things out there that are just much easier to produce much easier to record on the fly and various places. And I'm trialing and hopefully going to come up subject to, I guess this first trailer, episode two, le two, as a platform seems really easy to use, and it's web based.
And then moving that over to a platform called Buzzsprout, which is a great way that would say, looking at the information I found on the web, to actually syndicate the content, get it out there onto the platforms, and including getting it back to substack, where I'm going to hit my written material, and also basically tidying up the audio and making it sound quite
professional. So in terms of the topics and why you might want to come back here after this trailer, I'm focused on ventures that are generally powered by software. I do have some exceptions to that rule. I'm a passionate aviator and training, I don't actually have a full pilot's license. I have been trying for some time with my first flight. It's even 10 years of age. But I'm fascinated by
the concept of flight. And also the commerciality of flying as well, with respect to just what we're going to see in the future and our skies, both around passenger transition, different types of ways of getting people from A to B, and also logistics and supply chain, which is a massive issue for the world today. Given all the things we've experienced over the last few years. I talk about
sustainability a lot. I'll emphasize as we go more about why I think it really needs to be a driver that sustainability isn't a conversation that is separated from building our organizations. Let's actually integrate it and So I'll talk a lot about that startup element. I'm starting a pension myself with a co founder, it's probably my third major venture, depending on how you look at things in life. And I'm really excited about it, because I'm building it, and I'll talk about
it. And I'll share and I'll really want to get the audience's perspective on how to build an organization that only started last year 2021 with true product, purpose, and profit, integrated and combined together to a business with good one that can have an impact on a lot of the societal and environmental change challenges that we're facing. But also actually generates revenue in profits over time by doing that, so very excited personally about that. Still very connected into the
aviation industry. I'm a director of the board of an organization called UAS Corporation of New Zealand. It's a state owned enterprise. And for those of you not in the New Zealand context, basically a government owned but commercially driven organization. So that's a great way for me to stay connected to my heartland, lineage, I guess, which was an early life, quite a prolonged career and corporate
planet. And so roles with Hewlett Packard, IBM painted various organizations gave me a lot of institutional knowledge and large company knowledge, which I then took into startups, with my first startup co founded, with Mike Cardin, still a very good friend, and Mark Hellyer, called sonar six, which we sold to a US publicly listed
company. So I'm telling you all that to give you a bit of info about why you might want to listen to the small, and I hope that you do, and join me for my first fully facade, I haven't really decided which elements of what I've described are going to
be in there. But perhaps you could help me if you do come across this, on the World Wide Web, and you're keen to generate some regular revisits to this, you could actually help me create that first episode in the series, so that it's useful to the things that you're working on. So that's enough for a trailer, I think it's probably a long trailer. And I'm going to test this and make sure that it all works through our process.
So that's from Ella to, and then upload it to Buzzsprout and then syndicated across the different platforms. And if that all works, you will be listening to this on some platform that you're subscribed to. And hopefully, again, you can give me some feedback on what I should discuss in my first official episode, in the first
series of sound a life. And also it would be really helpful to know just because I'm confused about this myself, how long I should make each episode, I was blown away when we were doing a podcast for a venture I was working on with another human. Just how long people do listen to podcasts. So any feedback you have on there, just fire it into
the substack. If you've come to me through that, or shoot a note through belly to that'll be interesting to see as well in terms of how we get feedback through these podcasts platforms. So life's a journey, not a destination. And I am really excited about getting out to the world and having some chats, getting some feedback and creating some value just with sharing ideas and links and connections. Have a great rest
of your day. And please do join me when you see that first official episode, show up on the same page here and sound alive.
