Matt Murphy, good morning, How are we doing great? One sixteen one
oh eight win over the Dallas Mavericks. Lauren Rosen always great to be with you and everyone who is listening live on Twitter and then on the seventy Sixers Insiders podcast feed. Joel Embiid and James Harden. We're back and it was win number fifty. It was game number seventy six for the seventy Sixers, and it's the first time they've won fifty through the first seventy six games of a season since two thousand, two thousand and one, and we all remember what happened in that season and what
those playoffs were like. So I'm not saying, but I am saying it's a historic fiftieth win or the first time in sometime that they've won fifty through this many games. Matt. You absolutely love to see it on a night where the Sixers actually didn't really have it going the way that they wanted to, being able to come out a half time and figure it out down the stretch against a good Dallas Mavericks team that has been struggling lately, but of course has some weapons that are hard to
miss when you play against that team. So good to see the Sixers figure it out in James and Joel's first game back. Joel, of course only missed the one game, but James has missed a few, so good to see them find their rhythm together, big bench contributions. I'm gonna go ahead and jump straight into the box score. Now I see the number of engagements rising in that bottom right hand corner. You can hit that purple button and
let us know what stands out to you. As I go through the box score, Matt will give you a takeaway. We'll hear from Tyrese Maxie. We will also get out of here after that. So the box score last night one sixteen, one oh eight win for the seventy six ers. Matt set it their fiftieth win of the season. Joel Embiid led the way for the team once again twenty five points, nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Tyrese Maxie twenty two points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals.
James Harden a fifteen point twelve assist double double plus four rebounds and three steals. Tobias Harris finished with thirteen points, four rebounds, two assists, and to steal. George Niang and d' anthony Melton had great nights coming off the bench. Seventeen for d' anthony on five for six shooting from three point range. George had fourteen he made four threes. D'y anthony also had six rebounds last night, which is the second most rebounds on the team, tied with PJ. Tucker,
behind Joel Embiid and Matt. It was a good night overall for a balanced performance, a good bench performance. Doc Rivers talked about the struggling bench on the road and attributed it to the fact that a lot of them were playing in the starting lineup and weren't able to play their traditional roles. So good to see the bench proved doc right when they were able to get back
into their usual groupings last night. What was your biggest takeaway, Matt honorable mention the Niang and Melton combo three point shooting off the bench, because when you go nine for thirteen as a duo, that certainly bears mention, and you
mentioned it. I will repeat it here. But my primary takeaway when we talk about the box score from this Sixers MAVs game is you've alluded to the rebounding or you talked about the rebounding, but I'm going to take it a step further with Melton talk about offensive rebounding and how the Sixers had twenty five second chance points. Dallas only had eight, by the way, but d' Anthony Melton is a guard and he had four offensive rebounds,
and Paul Reid had three offensive rebounds. So that's a hustle stat and it's a skill and Paul Reid is really really good at it, and so is d Anthony Melton. He's got super long arms. You can see that when he comes away with steals on the defensive end. But those two guys crashing the glass is eye opening Melton and Read in particular, and it was on display against the Mavericks. Big time contributions across the board. Paul Reid, like you mentioned, was my walk off last night. Good
to see him happy and in good spirits. Matt, I agree with you. Love both of your takeaways, love the production from the bench. If you don't have anything else that you want to talk about from the box score, I think we can go ahead and hear Tyrese Maxie. But do you have anything else? Statistically? There's a few questions and comments that I want to get to because there was the game, there's the new locker room, there's there's a handful of topics. There's the G League playoffs
that we can do. But I think hearing from Tyrese Maxie post game as we compile all of those things would be a great step forward. Alrighty, here is Tyrese Maxie immediately post game last night. I think our defense has started. The second half was huge. I think we kind of got into the ball, trying to force them into shots that we wanted them to take and not shots that they wanted to take. And that was effective.
We got and ran, got a couple of easy baskets in once we Saturday, and I think it was good. It's hard, you know, to find rhythm again. James been out I think four games, maybe think Setly missed the last game, so I was, you know, first time playing with each other and since I don't know, since he was here last time. So it happens number of games this year as the team make do that again. You didn't get in comment. Yeah, it does go. It's a confidence of that. Of course, we don't want to get
down early. But we have the the chemistry and we have the communication level that we know that will be okay. We know that we're gonna be able to fight and be resilient, and we have multiple guys on our team that can help us win games. And shout out to George and Melt tonight who came off the bench and hit up big threes and played really well and we needed that lift. Your friends friend, Yeah, he balls tonight.
He balls to Night. But I told him before the game, you know, he was kind of down from the last game. We told him how a bounce back game. Um, and he did good. And I take no credit for that. He was just bothering man the rebounds that he got laid in that game offensively. Um, I'm sitting on the corner looking at him jumping. I'm like, bro, he was you should just dunk it. He was all the way up there. But you know, but we appreciate him. He's been great. You get I guess for about used to
help is what is that process? Like the miss do the game where you guys the chemistry all season, but still like about, there's kind of affirmation process everybody that's the boss about rhythm. It's about rhythm. So like James has to get his rhythm back because he missed hiring many games he missed, Joe missed the last game. So now you have Joe having to get his rhythm back from missing one game, and you got James from missing five games. Now they each individually had to get their
rhythm back. But then now both of them in the pick and roll and the two man gamet gotta get their rhythm back, which makes all follow us on the quarterbatta get our rhythm back together. So it's it's you know, it's hard, but uh, you know, if anybody can do it, they can do it, and we can do it as a team getting a lot of reps. What second unit guys just hear what if you learn about the keys
for you and that's problem. Yeah, if I'm out there with a second unit, for the most part of what I'm trying to do is get into the paint and create for myself, to create for others. I think that went well for us tonight. We kind of opened up the floor. M I drove down. Sometimes it's not even me, you know, past making the lab is me drawn to shooting a lab, missing it and then period or you know them. You often's rebound opportunities. But that's unit that
we just trying to play fast. You try to play a little bit faster, play a little bit more pace, and then get stops and run. Tyrese Maxie immediately following last night's win, seven games in a row with twenty plus points for Tyrese, that's a new career high streak for such games and it's just been great to see him thriving in every scenario he's been put in as he has all season long. Matt, I know you wanted
to jump into the comments. Go ahead. Yeah. So, first of all, when Tyrese responded to you in that clip, the questions are of course a little bit harder to hear because we are off mic during those moments and when the players at the podium, But you asked about Anthony Melton, and that was who Tyrese was saying was
balling against the Mavericks. And when he mentioned in his first answer Maxie talking about the first few minutes of the third quarter coming out of the locker room, and they actually they recorded three rather impressive steals within the first five minutes of the second half, trailing Dallas in this game, and obviously part of the comeback effort was
fueled by defense. And speaking of locker room, they moved into their new locker room at the Center officially, and I did share the locker room reveal video in the space here for the live listeners if anyone hasn't seen that video yet. But a really nice space. Mainly there's not a big column in the middle of the room
anymore that everyone used to walk around. It's a very modern looking circular locker room that has a very modern yeah feel to it, Lauren, I was very impressed, and it's good on the Sixers front office and staff to make sure the guys are comfortable heading into the playoffs, a new space for them to get ready in. It was nice and it was, like you said, Matt, nice to watch them get excited about their new space. You
said it coming during the playoffs. There are so many people behind the scenes that made that possible on the Sixers side, So shout out to all of them, of course, and some renovations in coming for next season two, so that's an exciting little thing to keep an eye on, Matt. Any other questions that you want to answer or folks
you want to shout out before we sort of look ahead. Yeah, there are questions, and there's a lot of comments about the Big Niang Theory with yourself and George Niang, so I think we've got to get to that as well, talking about the latest and greatest episode of the Big Niang Theory. Because multiple guests joining you and George in Kate Scott and Shake Milton, there was I think, so we hit the locker room somebody mentioned that and then okay,
so John says it's Phillies Opening Day. Why are you doing this today while we cover the Sixers, but appreciate the shout out. We can give a shout out to the Phillies. Their run baseball opening Day is always fun. Their run to the World Series was phenomenal. But we can lift all teams in the city of Philadelphia because an important stretch for the Sixers and getting in here to talk after their comeback win against Dallas and their back home after being on the road so much this
month of March. Let's see what else we've got Going to the comments, Genie has to give a shout out to Paul Reid. He's still honing his skills and he isn't perfect, but his heart and hustle are unmatched once he gets onto the floor. Anything to add, Lauren, You had another walk off interview with Paul and he's just so down to earth and fun to listen to and so much gratitude. He plays with a lot of gratitude for every minute, every opportunity that he's given. Immediately postgame
said he was thrilled to get the win. He was thrilled even more to be part of the win with some minutes and then of course thrilled for his twenty twenty draft classmate Tyrese Maxie, who he says he is no longer surprised to see thriving on the level that he has lately. You mentioned the Big Niang Theory with George Niang. The latest episode is out featuring Kate Scott, play by play announcer for the Philadelphia seventy six ers,
and guard Shake Milton. That one came together pretty organically. Actually, we knew we wanted to highlight Kate during Women's History Month. Shake actually volunteered to come on and join talking about some of the inspirations that he's had in his life during and for Women's History Months. So Shake talked about Serena Williams, he talked about Angela Davis, he talked about his mother. Kate also talked about her mother and her upbringing.
So if you guys haven't checked out The Big Niang Theory with George Niang, search for that wherever you get your podcast. We'd love to hear your feedback and would love to hear who you guys want to see George interview next. We have a lot of fun with those, So Matt appreciate the shout up appreciate, got a comment from Rebecca, got a comment from Jay Smooth both about the Big Niang theory. So thank you so much for your comments and for your support. Matt, I want to pivot.
I'm ready to talk about Wait, wait, no pivot, no pivot, triple threat, don't pivot, don't pass it, don't shoot it. We'll pass it to me. I wanted to read Mary's comment about the Big Niang theory because Mary said earlier comment not question. Thanks to Miss Lauren Rosen, Miss Kate Scott at Sniper Shake and at George Niang twenty for keeping it real on the Roadie loved your brutally honest discussion of women in sports being overlooked and overcoming fear
on the latest Big Niang theory. Oh that's such a good one. Thank you so much, Mary, and thank you Matt for drawing attention to that. And then Winona kind of echoed some stuff we've already talked about. But I just wanted to thank Winona for being here again. Winona said, I'm so proud of bball Paul. His commitment to his game is showing. He was on fire on the glass. That new locker room is fire I love how the team is finding the way to win. You can see
their defense change and they stay with it. So some things we've already touched on, but we're in agreement on. I love to see it. Matt Murphy, I'm forcing the pivot now. Tell us about the Bluecoats this afternoon. Police. Yeah, so this will be dated. Should I make a playoff prediction for the podcast listeners after the game has already happened? Well, I guess if you're a sixers in Bluecoats fan, you're hoping that they're now preparing for a Sunday Eastern Conference
Finals game in the G League. If you're not listening prior to four pm on Thursday, which is their Eastern Conference semi final against the Wizard's affiliate, the Capitol City Go Go. It's single elimination, it's one game playoff games in the g until the finals, which the Bluecoats have been in each of the last two years. It's best of three in the G League finals. They're looking to
get to the top of the mountain this year. And as we were talking here today in the eleven o'clock hour on the March thirtieth, ahead of their game, Jaden Springer, who practiced with them yesterday, was with the Sixers, was assigned back to the Bluecoats in all likelihood to play in the playoff game, where he thrived as a rookie in the playoffs last year on the way to the finals. So best of luck to the Blue Coats. Hopefully they're gaming up for another game if anyone's listening over the
weekend here, but playoff time in the G League. Their season ends a little bit before the NBA season does, so best of luck to the Sixers G League affiliate. That game for the live listeners is on National TV at four pm Eastern on ESPN two. I know I will be watching for those of you who don't know. Matt Murphy a play by play voice of the Delaware blue Coats all season long and has done such an incredible job covering them and keeping you guys looped in
as well. We'll hope to see Jayden today. We'll hope that this lives on after our recording and into the podcast sphere after a Bluecoats win. But in any haste, of great season for the blue Coats, great to see them fighting in the playoffs again, Lauren, I empathize with our friend Kate Scott though, because it's the Bluecoats had a first round by and now all of a sudden
it's it's national TV only. I will not be on the call this afternoon for the second round, but I feel the pain of so many local NBA announcers once their team gets through the first round and they no longer gets a broadcast. I know, well, Matt, we know you're going to be on many national broadcasts for many
years to come. So patience, patience remains of virtue. Speaking of patience, Sixers fans looking ahead to the playoffs, there's about a week and a half left of regular season play and then another week of play in tournament play before we can officially tip off the playoffs. The six Ers,
of course, have already clinched a spot. They hold the number three seed now a couple of games back from the number two Celtics, a couple of games ahead of the number four Calves, so looking pretty settled into that three spot, but of course, still plenty of time to move around in their six remaining games, which are as follows hosting the Toronto Raptors Tomorrow night Friday night, depending
on when you're listening. At seven pm Eastern, and then they head back to Milwaukee, whereas you'll remember their last win in Milwaukee perhaps one of their most if not most impressive wins of this season a few weeks back at Fiser Forum. So that'll be on Sunday evening. Then they return home to play Boston and Miami. Then they head back out on the road to close their season on the road the regular season. That is at Atlanta
and at Brooklyn on April seventh and ninth. The playing tournament comes after the playoffs to begin after that, Matt Murphy, anything that you're particularly looking forward to in that slate as we wrap this one up. Yeah, some big matchups both home and road. But it's good to have some home games mixed in after that month of March that everyone talked about leading up to it, during it, and
now through it with mostly road games. There was a tweet from LaToya earlier that said three point shooting kept the team in the game last night. Great atmosphere in the building, and that continues into this Toronto game, which is home Friday at seven. Like you said, NBC Sports Philly ninety seven five the Fanatic, they're five hundred. Their record right now at thirty eight and thirty eight as we speak, we know Tyrese Maxie has had one of his biggest games of his career or some of if
you include the playoffs against the Toronto Raptors. And he has been shooting it quite well in the month of March fifty one percent from three point range in his sixteen games thus far. That's top five in the NBA for those with enough attempts. And you talk to him recently on the road about how well he's been shooting it away from home, but overall he's looking to keep that number above fifty from three some home games now involved. Yeah,
he's been pretty phenomenal. Forty six point six percent from three on the road this season, forty two point seven percent from three overall this season. And remember that's a lot of that considers getting in and out of rhythm. Of course, missing six weeks due to injury, going to the bench, coming back into the starting lineup, and managing to continue improving from three all the while he's been doing it his whole career. Big games you mentioned it
against the Toronto Raptors. Has Tyrese Maxie had over the last couple of years so looking forward to tomorrow night and beyond. If you're listening on the seventy six Ers Insiders podcast feed, thank you. Tell your friends to follow the feed and follow the Big Niang Theory as well, with George Niang and Laren Rosen. Thank you, larn You see you, guys, see you. The number who
