What's up Sixers fans. No, it's been a tough couple of days. Next week wanted to give you the heads up we'll have an end of season round table myself, Lauren Rose, and Tom McGinnis, perhaps a couple other guests. But in the meantime, I wanted to make sure you remembered that we do have another feed that's part of the seventy six Ers podcast Network. It's called the Scoop. It's seventy Sixers news in five minutes ish or less. Search seventy six Ers Scoop wherever you listen to your

pods and give us a follow today. So here's a bonus episode recapping Darryl Morey's press conference held Tuesday June twenty second at the seventy six Ers training Complex. I'm Brian Seltzer, and this is the Scoop from the seventy six Ers Podcast Network, presented by DraftKings for Tuesday June twenty second. You know, I mean I think you can. I mean we're two days after you can tell it's a little ross though. I mean, like, I think you replay that game seven a bunch of times and we

execute better and we win. But look the reality is reality. We didn't do it. And frankly, if we're squeaking by the second round, that just tells me we're not We're unfortunately not good enough probably to win the title. So we need we need to get better. But you know, that game, that series is still incredibly painful. Daryl Morey, The emotions were still fresh forty eight hours later as he addressed the media late Tuesday morning. You don't get

a lot of opportunities. I do think we put ourselves in a very good opportunity to win the title this year. Didn't get it done. Doc did a really good job talking to players yesterday and really everybody, and in his remarks he challenged all of us to look at each of us in our role and how we can do better. You know that starts with me, that starts with Elton in the front office. It's Doc and his staff and each of the players and what they can do better. Just a week and a half ago, the Sixers like

their Eastern Conference semifinal series versus Atlanta two games to one. Unfortunately, their game seven setback prevented them from advancing more He's wrapping up his first season as president of Basketball operations, and despite the sixers early exit from the playoffs, he's still optimistic. We have a lot to build on. You know, we've got a you know, an MVP candidate, we've got an All Star. We've got a player who should be an All Star. We've got solid vets, we've got young

players pushing those vets. I had the great fortune to work with Red arback in Boston early in my career, and you know, he Follis felt strongly that you want to have a structure like we have now, which is, you know, obviously great top players, great veterans, but you also have young players pushing those veterans for time. And I think that was a great dynamically of this year. There's no question the Sixers had an excellent regular season forty nine wins, first time they earned the one seed

in the Eastern Conference it's two thousand and one. The series with the Hawks, though, was tough. Jowell and beauteous battling through his meniscus injury, and there were the turnovers in Game seven. Tobias Harris had some ups and downs. Ben Simmons felt he could have done a lot more. We have an extremely good trio. I mean, you don't get the one seed without having an extremely strong, you know,

top end players. In terms of what's the best next step, they give us just three tools, see how free agency, trade, and draft, and we're going to figure out how to make the team better. What's next? That's the obvious question, right where do Mori and the Sixers go from here? The draft combines happening this week, the draft itself is July twenty ninth, and free agency starts August second. Those are some of the tent poles that will guide the Sixers path and the months ahead. Well, this is a

really good group that played at a very high level. Obviously, part of my job is to self refract. You know, read what others are writing because you and you can learn from that, and you know a lot of what I'm reading, I frankly don't understand, you know, people saying the Sixers are in a bad situation. You know, I don't choose to come here, doctor doesn't choose to come here. If this is a bad situation. I mean, really, twenty five or twenty six teams in this league would love

to be in our our situation. We've got a good foundation. We just have to do better. I have to do better. Everyone has to do better. That's the bottom line. That's the challenge. And I can tell the to everyone in Philadelphia that you know, there's gonna be a ton of effort up and down from myself of the front office, the coaching staff, and the players who are being challenged. You know, as we speak in meetings with Doc Rivers

on how they can get better as well. Borne has been running NBA teams for nearly two decades between the Houston Rockets and now with the Sixers. He knows what to look for and expects the Sixers to make their most dramatic improvements internally rather than externally. Obviously, we'd love to have all stars at every position, right like we have to like see what's out there. We can't overreact to anything that just happened, but you can also can't underreact.

If we go in with like we have to do acts, I know that doesn't work. You can't go in and say well, we need exactly this if you if you do that, you'll fail because you need a whole set of options and then pick the one that optimizes your championship. Ouds and I thought we did a good job not great job at doing that last year, and we need to do a great job this offseason. During Tuesday Zoom with the media from the seventy six Ers training complex

and Camden or he spoke for nearly forty minutes. He said Doc Rivers and his coaching staff did a tremendous job this season and called Joel and beat quote the heart and soul of the Sixers.
