This is seventy six Ers. Rewind time now to listen back to postgame reaction from the team's most recent game, tough loss the Atlanta Hawks tonight by the seventy six Ers one twenty nine two one twenty seven. I'm Brian Selza. That's going to have a stage from Marina. I believe we have Bret Brawn. It just I'm having a great, great night. I think it's a little of both. You know.

The game at stages was bizarre to me. Really. Some of the turnovers in the fourth period were we were head scratching, and I think some of that, I think some of the defensive lapses we had in the first half, we're head scratching. And then you put it into the melting pot of them, you know, being playing good basketball, and they had some offensive fire palla to sort of punish those areas that I just mentioned, and we couldn't

overcome it in the end. And I think it's sort of a combination of both of the things that you just mentioned. The Hawks a lot did you want to come up, but an adjustment. We had probably three or four different things from blitzing to switching to hedging to dropping, you know, if you saw, like really dug in and looked at that, you would you would have seen that. And I can't say that any of them were incredibly effective, but they did force us to try to make different

adjustments in the picking role. Thank you, Thank you, seventy Sixers head coach Brett Brown after tonight's one twenty nine to one twenty seven lost the Atlanta Hawks, the second straight game the Sixers have dropped to Atlanta, and the Sixers six game winning streak, it was a season high, has now come to an end. On Brian Seltzer, Trey Young wins it on a really impressive floater at the

horn with point one second to go. I mean, not only did he had a four time All League defender matched up on him in isolation with timelinding Dad and Jimmy Butler, he was able to release was Young the floater just underneath the free throw line, with Joel Embad creeping up from under the basket to apply some pressure. Listen, sometimes you got to tip your hat to a great individual play and player, which certainly Trey Young looks like

he's going to be thirty two points. He had twenty one points in the first half and then came up huge in the fourth quarter. Now what, it's not easy to tip your hat to some of the things Brett Brown just alluded to. The seventy Sixers defense at the start of the game, throughout the first half, especially on the perimeter and on some of the drives into the paint.

Not what you would expect from the team that we saw beat the Milwaukee Bucks last Sunday and then a couple of days after that knock off the Boston Celtics on Wednesday at the Center that was not good in particular. You know, it's interesting you're watching these two teams play and thinking about the two coaches. There's Brett Brown, of

course for the seventy Sixers. There's Lloyd Pierce, who was with the team in the last five years now with Atlanta, and philosophically, there's a lot of similarities both the Sixers and the Hawks. They play with pace, they emphasize three points shoot, while Atlanta statistically may not be a great

defensive team. You know that Lloyd Pierce, who was the defensive coach for the Sixers the last five years, that is his calling card, one of his areas of expertise and a perfect world at Land would play better defense. I thought they actually played pretty good defense tonight. But within that for Atlanta, especially on the offensive side of the ball, how often they were able to rely on pick and roll with Trey Young, whether it was a guy like Dwayne Deadman or just I beg your pardon,

Alex len Tom talked about him. Lenn was phenomenal tonight. He really had an impact on the game. I know the plus minus numbers might not show it, but you could tell he was a body that the Hawks could put on Joel Embiid and they were able to get him on some pick and roll conversions. That's something that difference from the Sixers. The Sixers don't rely on that type of offensive scheme as much. It's more durable handoff past,

side to side, that sort of thing. And the Sixers they struggled despite different adjustments they tried to make in defending pick and roll tonight, and they played with fire. They ultimately did get burned. It was going to be a game that the Sixers had managed to win it, you would probably walk away from saying, well, yeah, the

Sixers very fortunate to have come out on top. They were not fortunate because in the end, Trey Young made sure that the Hawks would take this one in the end, one twenty nine to one, twenty seven to seventy Sixers

now forty seven and twenty six. The Atlanta Hawks improve to twenty six and forty eight with their second straight victory and a tough opportunity missed by the Sixers tonight to gain ground in the Eastern Conference standings with both the Indiana Pacers having lost in the Boston Celtics as well. We'll touch base with Tom McGinnis coming up next. It's the Sixers postgame showing the Sixers Raider Network. Club seventy six is the official season ticket waiting list of the

Troy Young a floater in the lane with point one second to go, icing it

four the Hawks. The seventy Sixers had an inbounds play but could not get anything from it with that little time left. I'm Brian Seltzer. Indiana Pacers lost their previous game to the Golden State Warriors. The Boston Celtics lost earlier today to the Charlotte Hornets. The seventy Sixers miss out on an opportunity to gain some ground in the Eastern Conference standings going into the final two and a half weeks of the season. Let's bring on Tom McGinnis

from State Farm Arena. Tom Early on, the seventy Sixers were messing around with this game. They were fortunate to be in position to win it. Jimmy Butler again big in the fourth, but Trey Young had the final say yeah, no doubt about it. You know, once they tie the game at one hundred into the fourth, you're like, Okay, enough's enough, let's try it. Let's take care of business.

But they kept letting Atlanta hanging around to your point, Jimmy had eight, including four free throws two field goals, and as Brett Brown, you know, you kind of like to hear it from the coach because I thought, you know, I made a lot to do of those turnovers, and he called a bizarre and that is, like I said, like,

you know, it's just like I said. On balance, you look at the numbers and you're like, wow, what a great game, except for how the Sixers took care of the basketball or lack thereof, and some of the turnovers in the game, and it costs them. And you know, you got to ratchet your intensity and your discipline, all of those things against a team twenty three games under five hundred, just like you got too against the Boston Celtics or the Thunder of the Pacers of the book,

you know what I mean. And that that was that was lacking here tonight and it cost them the game. So real frustrating tonight. And again this team, you know, they're building Atlanta, they're building for the future. These types of g You think Trey Young's not gonna remember this. He just did a game when he shot over Jimmy Butler and the Sixers one of the top teams in the East. He's gonna remember this for the rest of his career, and he's obviously headed for some grandeur, you know,

experiences because he's a terrific player. I mean, that's that's one of the treats of being able to travel and be with this team and for that matter, being a season ticket holder and being able to come out and watch this talent. And having said that, he did not play Trey Young eleven in the first game a bit

of a non factor. I think they run night number two of them back to back in that first week of the season when they were in Philadelphia, and then at eighteen points, Hurd was the guy in that game. But tonight you saw what the big deal was about. Trey Young thirty two points, eleven assists, I mean range that stretched out to Gwynette County and just an incredible talent. And for the Sixers, you know, like, I'm sorry, but part of the job is being honest, and you gotta

be you gotta be better than that. They should have won this game and they didn't, no question, And it's really you know, you think about the turnovers down the stretch. Seven of the fourteen coming in the fourth quarter, three of them from Joel Embiid, I mean, and they got away with one that he gave away thanks to Ben Simmons and Jimmy Butler with the steel on the potential open court run out with about a minute and a half left that ultimately sent Butler back to the line.

But yeah, it was just the type of game where it seems like, you know, you're thinking back, and I couldn't help but think, like, hey, remember when the seventy Sixers were that team trying to push the boulder up the mountain collectively and become a franchise that could win on a sustained basis. It was like, Yeah, the Hawks came out with that type of spirit. They were loose, they were free, They started hitting their shots early, and

there was no sawing them down. And I think, you know, going back to young, when you have that dual threat of being able to score as effectively as he could and also pass, it really put the Sixers defense on its heels. Well to your first point, I thought of that too prior to the game, where you know things

are reversed. When the Sixers were coming down here three to four years ago during a ten win season, Atlanta was winning sixty games, So that was a dramatic reversal or an exact reversal record wise of where these two teams were at that time. I mean, this team was

making the conference finals when Mike Scott was here. And then to Tray Young, like, you know, you're taught as a young player, don't make one hand passes, the thought being that if by any chance the guy all of a sudden has covered, you have both hands on the ball and you can bring it back and you're not going to turn over. Plus you're just more adept at passing,

they're going to be more accurate. Well, this guy, he uses the one hand pass left and right, and it was really effective because where I saw to his advantage speaking of Young and his distribution of the ball. Guys

are coming out at him. Sometimes a secondary defender is coming over and he's holding onto that ball and he's coming around that those defenders and get an inside to one of his teammates who was just you know, their defender left, so he was I mean, it's a treat when you watch a kid with this kind of skill and it shows you know, so many young people now that we've seen Curry handle the ball and all these great players handle the basketball, Kyrie, and it's one thing

to be able to just sit there and found that that's not it. But when you have this ability with both hands to handle the basketball and you can get and you have the quickness and the athletic ability to get to any spot you want, boy, you can do damn it. You can break down a defense. That's what he did. That's what he did on that final play. He's probably the most slight player out there in terms of weight. He's young, I believe he's only twenty years old,

maybe pressing up on twenty two. But what a talent and that, like I said, the other thing is when you read about his background, his father taught him to shoot from range growing up, and that again, that's the opposite of how you're taught early on, and that is you know, you don't want to shoot on most guys, their fathers won't let him shoot, or their coaches won't

let him shoot beyond a certain limit. Where his dad wanted him to increase his range, and he's taken that to this level in the best basketball league in the world. So for the Sixers, again, you know, like you You don't want to make too much of it because you can't go down to Orlando and repeat the air got you have to improve and get better, go over things.

And but it's just to come off that high of the win against Boston and then lose this game that that's hard for a team that this is no longer a young team, not with these additions and not with the experience of Simmons and be this is no longer a team that's growing, you know what I mean, Like they're they're pushing. They're not a young team anymore, certainly not by experienced ten games in the playoffs and and all like that. So you cannot make these mistakes and

and and drop a game like this. It's it's got to be extremely frustrating for the coaches and the players. But you got to clean it up and go down to Orlando. And those games have been awful close with the Magic this year. Not an easy game as well, no doubt about it. Tom. We will talk to you on Monday from Amoy Center. Okay, good night, Brian, and about that, and we'll talk about this also in the final segment. Oh yeah, the Orlando Magic. They've won four

consecutive games. They are one game back of Miami for the top spot in the semi subpar Southeast in terms of record, but Orlando's a good team. All teams in that division are under five hundred. The Magic or sub three. In terms of being under five hundred, they're thirty five and thirty eight. But they've won four in a row, and they've already beat the seventy six Ers at Amoy Center earlier this year. That was if you remember the

night of Jimmy Butler's debut. So the Magic fighting to get to that top spot in the Southeast and subsequently with it, the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race does not figure to be an easy game on Monday nights. Tonight was a tough one for the Sixers. They loose the Hawks one TWEE twenty seven. We'll get to a couple highlights and close this thing out next The Sixers Rating Network. The seventy Sixers had trouble matching their intensity, Butts, a former Hawk, Mike Scotts, helped put the seventy sixers in front. Reddick trying to get free from baseball out to Scott for three, and that's good. Mike Scott knocks out in the third three of the game for the Sixers. It's thirty two to thirty and it sparked a nine nothing run that would vault the Sixers into the second quarter

leading forty one to thirty four. But the Hawks, they answered quickly. In the seventy Sixers were trying to fend off their hosts. There's Mike Scott corner three, rimming around no rebound put back errors. Great job by Tobias Harris. The Paths follows up the miss and then things started to change really quickly. That made it a fifty to forty eight game in favor of the seventy Sixers. The Hawks would go on a nineteen to three tear to take control. They would lead it at the half by

the score of seventy four to sixty eight. Seventy Sixers had ground to make up. The Sixers trailed by double figures midway through the third, but then Ben Simmons put the key and ignition Simmons with a one on one with Vince Carter. Ben drives it, hangs fires, rimming around and good. Ben Simmons going left the right able to get the field goal, part of a ten nothing seventy Sixers run that ultimately set them up to go into

the fourth tide at one hundred. After jj Reddick scored five points in a row in the fourth quarter, it was close, close, close. The lead changed hands a couple of times. Seventy Sixers they were knocking on the door to finally getting over the hump, and after a series of Atlanta missus, Jimmy Butler went to the free throw line made at one nineteen one eighteen, and the Sixers got another stop to set up this, Ben Simmons of the ball, Collins backs up, Ben takes into the late

left hand hook. He got a difficult shot, but hand by sevens Auber Collins and the Sixers go up by three one twenty one, one eighteen under two minutes to go. But then things started to get a little bit hairy. John Collins hit two free throws to Allenby turned the ball over the lad to an easy run out jam for Kevin Herder that put the Hawks in front one twenty two till one twenty one went back and forth.

The Sixers got a lay from Jimmy Butler to tie it with fifty five seconds left one twenty five, one twenty five. Butler then hit free throws with forty seconds to go one twenty seven, one twenty five seventy Sixers, but Torrian Prince he was able to score it to even up at one twenty seven apiece with twenty five seconds to go. The Sixers committed a shot clock viol with three and a half seconds left, leading to this tied at one twenty seven, three point five to go.

Atlanta inbounding Hurder surgery look. He goes in to Trey Young. Three seconds Young gonna drive fifty, got it, and Atlanta's gonna win the game point one to go, and they certainly did one. Twenty nine one twenty seven the final score. Hawks and the seventy sixers each shot forty six percent from the field, but Atlanta, courtesy of the seventy sixers turnovers, they were able to put up fifteen more shots and make seven more field goals in the sixers Atlanta with

fifteen three pointers the Sixers with ten sixers. They were able to hang around and stay closed, especially in the first half, thanks to their free throw shooting seventy six ers thirty three to thirty nine from the line. The Sixers plus three on the glass. Seven of their fourteen turnovers came in the fourth, three coming from Joel Embiid and Bead finished with twenty seven and twelve. Twenty five

points for Jimmy Butler, eight coming in the fourth. Ben Simmons with twenty one point, six rebounds, and nine assists to go with four steals and two blocked shots for the Hawks. Leading the way Trey Young with thirty two He was dynamite twenty one points in the first half, also eleven assists, twenty three points Victorian Prince who had four three pointers fourteen off the bench for alex Land, who also had four rebounds and helped the pick and

roll offense go for the Atlanta Hawks. And there was also a body that the Hawks could throw on Joel and beat seventy six Ers. Season long six game winning streak is over there now forty seven and twenty six. The Atlanta Hawks improved to twenty six and forty eight.
