This is seventy Sixers rewind time now to listen back to postgame reaction from the team's most recent game. We can close the books on history tonight as the seventy Sixers do something they have never done before, which has beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in OKC. What a game two teams missing a pair of MVP candidates, the seventy Sixers without Joel Embiid the Oklahoma City Thunder without Paul George, and the seventy Sixers got off to a great start.
They had some really timely runs throughout the game, and they hang on one o eight, one oh four for a big win against the current three set out of the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brian Selzer bidding you good evening. This is gonna be a fun one to dissects. Certainly, it was not a game for the faint of hearts to bias Harris stepping up with the game tied at ninety three, helping the seventy Sixers churn
out at key ten nothing run to vault them into control. Yeah, it was not easy whatsoever in the two minutes that followed after that, but the seventy six Ers, they were finally able to get the execution they wanted in the closing seconds after Russell Westbrook had a pair of free throws with just under a half minute ago JJ Reddick, they were able to get the ball to him at JJ with the free throws to ice the game, and all of that following a monstrous offensive rebound from Ben Simmons,
who picked up another triple double, his ninth on the year, with eleven points, thirteen rebounds, and eleven assists. Tobias Harris though thirty two points, he had sixty one total points on the two game road trip between the win another nail biter on Monday at New Orleans and tonight's game in Oklahoma City, Jimmy Butler rose to the occasion at
various points, twenty points, eight rebounds. He tied a season high with eight assists, two steals, some quality defensive plays JJ Reddick with a monstrous three pointer down the stretch. He finished with twelve points. Despite somewhat of a show He's shooting night at three of thirteen overall, two of nine from three point territory. Mike Scott with some key baskets he had nine points. All around. Great effort by the seventy sixers shorthanded tonight asked for the thunder Russell Westbrook.
Yeah he got thirteen points. Yeah, he had eleven rebounds and eleven dimes for another triple double, eight of twenty four. I mean, all things considered, seventy sixers are going to live with that. He really was not able to do anything in terms of with his jump shot. He was one of nine from three point territory. All of his baskets, off the top of your head when you're replaying the
game in your mind, came in transition sequences. That was something the seventy sixers did have trouble containing, but in the end four points better than the Thunder one O eight, one o four In the win. Steven Adams got going in the second half, particularly in the third quarter. That opened things up and let Okase get back into the game. Former seventy six er Jeremy Grant played great. He had twenty three points on ten of seventeen, shooting two to
three pointers. Dennis Shrewder with fourteen points, started the game off the bench. Started the second half the seventy sixers. They fend off the Thunder one O eight, one oh four, first win over the OKC franchise, going all the way back to two thousand and eight, which was Oklahoma City's first season of existence. All right, let us go to Chesapeake Energy Arena. Tom McGuinness standing by Tom, How you
doing after this one? Well, I'm doing good, Brian. And you know, one thing that strikes my mind is that if you're going to get to the success like the Sixers appear to be headed toward another fifty plus win season, there's a few things that have to go into that formula. And one is, as we've talked about before, where you have to be kind of five hundred on the road and be dominant at home. They're doing that. They're now
two games over five hundred on the road. They've obviously had an impeccable or home record so far this year. And then you have to start to knock off some of these things, and this is one of them. You know, you have to beat teams that you haven't beaten, you have to reverse trends. So obviously this is a big one, as you say, And the two that stand out there are what winning against Toronto in Toronto and beating Boston and that we won't play the Sixers will not play
Toronto again in the regular season. They might play him in the playoffs up there. You have one more game at home against Boston. But those are two big things, and those types of things are you know, that's where that's like the pecking order. That's that's the process of getting to where you want to go. And tonight, again, as you said, it wasn't pretty, but they had again multiple performers that stepped up during key phases of the game.
And that's how you do it, and that's particularly how you do it winning the game when you don't have your best player out there in Joel Ebeid, where during times of the game Jimmy was the man. Ben had a good all around game, as you said, numerically with a triple double. Tobias Harris a huge game, Mike Scott hit clutch threes, JJ hit a big three, made those free throws. You got performances. Even though a mirror had a lot of fouls, he buys you. Min As Jonah
had a good start. Tj played well. And that's what it takes to be a team. You need everybody to step up and contribute one to wait one or four. The seventy Sixers defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder, a big win. They sweep this road trip time. There's obviously some tough games still to come. Let's talk about a guy who you touched upon right there, but he is in the lineup right now. He's playing healthy, he's playing great. Tobias Harris has been a flat out stud, especially these last
two games. Yeah, what I like about him? And I really admired this from Afar when he was on other teams like Milwaukee, like Detroit, like Orlando a little bit with the Clippers. We didn't really see him that much with them. But he's so big, Okay, he's like six eight, and he's like a face up shooter in other words. You know, he's got moves, don't get me wrong, but he's not. And he had he had some dunks because
he was a hard cutter on some good passes. But the strength of his game is really a face up jump shot. And one of the Sixers needed over this year's and that's guys that can make shots, and that's his a Bill and you know he has his strength of just being able to dribble, pull up and knock it out right in front of you and that's that's really impressive, and that's what you need in the playoffs.
You need even Mike Scott. I mean, their games don't hunjure up the same offensive image, but the ability to get a basket with the game on the line. It's not always gonna beat and beat on the block. It's not always gonna beat Jimmy Butler or JJ curling and catching and making the three. You need multiple It's gonna be some of that, but you need multiple options. And that's what I think Harris springs to the table again.
I believe he's had six twenty point games and his eight with the Sixers tonight thirty two, as you mentioned, twenty nine in New Orleans and really helping to carry the load in these last few games without Joel seventy Sixers over the thunder one on eight, one on four,
and just to fill up in that time. I mean, it's it's almost like I'm thinking back to last season when the seventy Sixers at JJ Reddick, and perhaps I'm guilty of not watching enough NBA basketball outside the Sixers, but anything else going on, you got twins or something. Seltzer's right, maybe, just maybe, but you get to see these guys on a more regular basis, and you just come to appreciate more and more of the subtleties of
their game. And one of the things about Bias watching him when he's able to load up on the perimeter, the downhill speed he's able to generate going to the basket, to me is so impressive, like some of those trailing plays where he just cuts in for the dunk like he has. Like you said, he plays big, he's got some athleticism, but he can really get that downhill power going as well. Absolutely the big basketball IQ and you know, when somebody's doubled, it's when to make the cut, hard slash.
But it's all set up by what I was saying, with that ability to just rise up and make an outside shot. And when that happens, teams close out on you, so they're running out on you, getting into your feet, trying to force you off the line, and that too, is what sets up his ability to get to the basket. And all these guys are good all around players, and
that's what I think is exciting. That's what allows the coaches to switch defensively schematically, and that's a huge asset in many cases it's hurt the Sixers a little bit in other pick and roll scenarios, particularly against Boston. But Harris is another one of these guys with the size, with the length, like Jimmy, like Ben obviously Joel, Mike Scott could be thrown into that mix. And even Ns off the bench played well tonight and gave you some minutes.
It has that ability defensively. So no, Tobias Harris is a tremendous asset and we're seeing it right off the jump here in his first two or three weeks with the team. All right, So now now we can look ahead to Saturday, ABC primetime television game that you can hear on your local radio, Golden State visiting the Center for the only time in the regular season, coming off two tough losses in the state of Florida, first to Miami, they lose to Orlando tonight. I can't wait. It's gonna
be great enough. Yeah, you know, so people kind of talked about the time when you know, just four seasons ago the Sixers had ten wins, and you know, what's amiss or all? That must have been so hard, But to me, it's weekend games, like what we're talking about or this game here tonight, this whole stretch obviously with the Sixers, but that anticipation, the marquee matchup, the buzz in the arena, the buzz in the city, and it's going to be exciting, no doubt about it. The Sixers
beat them out there at Oracle. It's obviously a team, particularly now with Cousins playing at a level. Maybe that's got going a little bit since he got back from injury. And I mean, these guys, you know, when I also think of two is you know, Philadelphia entertains or is entertained, has some of the top talent in the world that comes to play at stages right and this is the
basketball arena. And you got again Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry Thompson one of the greatest shooters in the world, the Marcus Cousins one of the top talents, and everybody for the Sixers in a competitive, exciting environment. This is why we play. This is the NBA's motto, and welcome to the moment. It's all going to come together on Saturday night and hopefully an eye on the future in terms of playoff games of this notoriety. I'm not saying against
the Warriors hopefully in the finals. But you know what I'm saying, where these kind of games are coming down the pike with a little bit more regularity, and it's all good. Alrighty Tom, talk to you on Saturday from the center. Seventy Sixers and the Warriors should be a great one to have an easy trip. Thank you, Bryank, Good night. Seventy six Ers beats the Oklahoma City Thunder
in Oklahoma City for the first time ever. The last time they knocked off this franchise on the road was at a place called Key Arena on New Year's Eve two thousand and seven, when the Oklahoma City Thunder were the Seattle SuperSonics. Great win by the team, these last two on the road. Not easy, but getting it done shorthanded and a nice way to rebound following a tough loss to the Portland Trailblazers five days ago before the
team set out for this road trip. We're gonna get to some highlights and some final thoughts coming up after this. It's supposed to show on the six Rating Network. This was kind of a longest short or short longest, however you want to describe at road trip. The team played only two games, New Orleans on Monday and Oklahoma City tonight, but the two idle days in
between sutlely made it feel longer. But let us get to some of the highlights. Sixers without Joel Embid and boban Marianovich in this one tonight, So you're thinking, all right, having gonna come out against Oklahoma City on the old Westbrook Adams. No Paul George though for OKAC had of his seventy sixers come out like their hair was totally full of fire. Harris in the half court for the Sixers six forty to go to JJ quit jack three
out top and it's good. Five in a row, time out thunder twenty one to eleven, seventy Sixers putting an early stamp on this one. They were up thirty seven to twenty six after a quarter, and early in the second Tobias Harris kept momentum on their side, Butler in the lane downloaded TJ. Conald to Harris and Harris with a slam. They're doing a good job covering the baseline, but Harris with a cut from out top, gets it
gathers it in a two hand jam. One of the many good plays to Bias Harris is a part of in tonight's game. OKAC started to chip its way back into it for the seventy sixers had a strong finish to the first hand Jimmy with it back to Mike Scott back into the lane. Ben Simmons with a right hand thrown out and he bellows out to try to put a little punctuation mark on that jam. Simmons was out and the seventy Sixers punk to it the second quarter with six straight points. They had a sixty to
forty nine lead at the break. In the third quarter, the Sixers would experience some pressure as Oklahoma City went on a twelve nothing run to draw within two seventy three to seventy one, but not too long after that's the man of the game. Tobias Harris was vital for the first of two major runs he was part of in the second half until the seventy sixers steady themselves grant one on one with Ben on the drive bangs into him. Ben got a hand on it and Simmons
steals the ball down the court. He goes to TJ butcconnell to a trailing Harris had a flight two hand jamp by to Bias Harris. Westbrook lift for three. That's still good. Sevens of the ball, Harris for three, and that's good. Seventh straight a touchdown by Tobias Harris and the Sixers go back up by nine, Tobias Hairs scoring the first seven points of a vital nine nothing run
for the seventy Sixers. After the thunder had closed within two, seventy Sixers went in the fourth with an eighty six seventy nine league, but Oklahoma City would not go away. They would tie it up at ninety three seventy. Sixers had another response three and a half to go, four to shoot Harris in the lane off bella shot, but Tobias Harris with twenty nine for the second straight game and made it ninety eight ninety three, and Harris or
they have won more basket in him. Mike Scott to Tobias eight to shoot Harris, I'll top against Adams three on the clock rising three point shot gout again. Tobias Harris has rained another triple and the Sixers go up by eight thirty two for Tobias Harris and the Sixers got another stop after that. Ben Simmons dunked at home to make it one oh three ninety three with one fifty two left in the game, but OKC ripped off the next seven points to make it one oh three
one hundred fifty seconds left. Another one of the newcomers clutch. So what will the Sixers op with? They go to Mike Scott, He's wide open shoot to three and in Mike Scott knocking down the triple and that gives us Sixers a six point lead. With that wide open attempt, they still were not entirely in the clear after that, as Oklahoma City scored four points in a row, the last two on Russell Westbrook free throws, but the seventy
Sixers were able to get the ball to well. First, they got a huge offensive rebound from Ben Simmons, and then they were able to get the ball to JJ Reddick. He was fouled and he got some insurance free throws to secure the one o eight, one oh four win for the seventy Sixers at Oklahoma City. As the Sixers, they continue to find ways to get things done in the absence of arguably their best player and one of the best players in the league in Joel and b. Let's take a look at some of the final stats.
Sixer shot forty five and a half percent for the game, Oklahoma City forty three and a half percent, seventy Sixers four more three pointers than OKC twelve to eight. Oklahoma City, you know, they outscored the seventy Sixers by eight from the free throw line, but in a game this narrow, Oklahoma City twenty of twenty eight from the line, and given how tight things were, obviously the thunder would have
loved to have had a few of those back. Sixers early on controlled the glass, but then Steven Adams got going in the second half. Both teams finished with forty four boards in the game. The seventy Sixers had thirty three assists on forty two made field goals. That was impressive. Sixers turned the ball over fourteen times. Oklahoma City twelve
individual notes. Tobias Harris a season high as a seventy sixer eleven of nineteen from the field, five of seven from three point territory, five of five from the line, thirty two points to go with five rebounds and three assists, twenty points, seven rebounds. Bigger part in twenty points, eight rebounds and eight assists plus two steals for Jimmy Butler, he was plus seven and he was also the seventy
sixers bell ringer tonight. But Joona Bolden, we didn't get to talk about him, but he got the Sixers off to a nice start. Finished with fourteen and three. Filled in well in these starting center role for the Sixers. JJ Reddick with a dozen. Ben Simons with ninth triple double, eleven points, thirteen rebounds, eight assists. T J McConnell off the bench with just two points but six assists. Mike Scott great in a reserve role with nine points and
three rebounds. He also had three pointers twenty three points for Jeremy Grant and also Russell Westbrook. Westbrook, though eight of twenty four from the field one of nine from three point territory. He did have eleven rebounds and eleven assists, but all this field goals essentially coming in transition, so the seventy six ers picked their poison. Obviously, Westbrook excels in that part of his game, but in regards to everything else, he was not able to find his stroke Tonight.
Up next for the seventy six ers, after going two and oh on this road trip, they have an eight thirty game on Saturday at the Center versus the Golden State Warriors. They of course beat Golden States last month a little bit over four weeks ago by the score of one thirteen to one oh four on January thirty
first at Oracle Arena. That would be something for the seventies sixers to possibly sweep the season series against the Golden State team that's dropped two in a row in kind of collapse fashion in both games against the Miami Heat the other night and the Orlando Magic tonight. But yes, all eyes will be glued, you would think in the NBA on South Philadelphia on Saturday, all eyes glued on South Philadelphia, the entire Dealaware Valley these days anyway, with
the Phillies News Bryce Harper, So that is great. The seventy sixers keep the vibes going with their one o eight one oh four win over the Thunder tonight. Divine given standing by at the Flagship ninety seventy five to the fanatic for in the post. Maybe it could be a duel in the post in the pen tonight or in the cage. Whatever. It is just a lot of good stuff in Phillies sports, so enjoy the moment. Big thanks to the guys back at the studio Tyler Zuli
and also Brian McLaughlin. Now for the radio voice in the seventy Sixers, Tom McGinnis, Brian Seltzer saying so long for now one final time. The final score it was the seventy six Ers one O eight in Oklahoma City Thunder one oh four. Have a great rest of you are a Thursday night from all of us here at the Sixers a Raider network. You've been listening to seventy Sixers, rewind be sure not to miss new episodes the day after each game this season, all year long,
