Episode description

This is the Philadelphia has seventy Sixers postgame show. If I can look about about Broadstree Stars, is gonna turn and get it off Mattie Roll the Sixers postgame show right now on ninety seven five. The panetic tough one for the seventy Sixers in South Florida tonight, a one oho two, one oh one lost the Miami Heat and a key Eastern Conference game that now has resulted in the Heats pulling within a game of the Sixers for

seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. Brian sells you with you from Sixers dot com or expecting to hear from Sixers head coach Brett Brown following a hard fought battle tonight. Everything was what you would expect in a game that featured a lot of postseason implications. Let's go to the head coach to dissect this one right now. You know, it's the twenty three turnovers. You're always looking at. Um. You know, I think that there's some things defensively, to

be even more particular, that we can improve on. But I feel like we're playing decent basketball. We lost to a good team here on their home. It's a game we feel like going down the stretch. We could have in many waves, should have won. We didn't, but I liked the way we're trending. Thank you, Reef. Comments from

the Sixers headman Brett Brown after tonight's loss. You heard him perhaps saying right at the beginning of his address, twenty three turnovers in the game that led to twenty six points off turnovers for the Miami Heat, a key separator in tonight's one point outcome one O two, one on one the Heat over the Sixers. Sixers big man Joel andb the All Star. He had to battle foul

trouble throughout most of the evening. He had five personal fouls all said and done, but picked up number five very early on within the first minute fifteen seconds of the fourth corner. Did finish with twenty three points, eight rebounds and four assists. Had a big basket that helped the Sixers build their lead up to one hundred two ninety seven, but Dwayne Wade went to the line to

lock things up with three free throws. Ben Simmons was intentionally foul by Wade with twenty three point eight seconds left.

He split the free throws, missed the first connected on the second to make it one oh one two one hundred and then with five point nine seconds ago, Dwayne Wade, who scored a season high twenty seven points, including fifteen in the fourth quarter, connected on a step back jumper top of the key, as Tom McGinnis said, vintage Dwayne Wade in tonight's game, in his sixth game back with a Heat since the trade deadline, and he was a huge factor in the Heat getting by and this one tonight.

Hassan Whiteside very impactful with fifteen points eleven rebounds. Kelly Olenick, back from injury off the bench nine points, three rebounds, three assists, but he was a presence that seemed to bother Joel and Beads somewhat as the two of them

went at it throughout tonight's game. Grundragics very steady for the Heat, the All Star with twenty one points and three three pointers, and Miami with just enough to get past the Sixers tonight thanks to a throwback effort from Dwayne Wade's twenty seven points, hitting the decisive jumper with five point nine seconds to go as the Heat win this one one O two to one on one again now within a game of the Sixers for seventh place in the Eastern Conference, and the four game season series

stands at two to one in favor of the Sixers, But a rematch coming a week from Thursday. Down at American Airlines Arena. Once again, Tom McGinnis is standing bible. Go to next. It's the postgame showing the Sixers rating network seventy Sixers falling at American Airlines Arena by the final score of one h two to one on one. Brian Seltzer with you from Sixers dot Com. Tough one for the team tonight. This really did take on a spirited postseason feel. Points were at a premium, defense was

ratcheted up. You could tell that both clubs since the requisite urgency and hunger in this one tonight. It was not to be for the Sixers. They committed twenty three turnovers in the game. Dwayne Weighed the game winner with five point nine seconds to go to Ell and b battling foul trouble throughout the night. For entertainment value, Tom McGinnis, this was a great game tonight, giving you a preview in terms of the Sixers hope will being about a

month and a half from now. The old veteran stepping up down the stretch and putting his team over the top. Yeah, absolutely preview, Yes, but you know, these are the types of games that you, you know, you try to win. Competing it's just such a deflating thing. I gotta be honest. That was a really hard, fun game. The Sixers, you know, quote unquote, had the game for most of the game,

but Wade was just too much down the stretch. That running shot, the free throws, the game winning shot, I mean, fifteen points in the fourth, you know, and the Sixers were really hard pressed for offense down the stretch. And that's something that that's how playoff basketball. If that's if they're fortunate enough to get into the playoffs, that they play their way in amongst the top eight in the East,

that's how it goes in the playoffs. I mean, they shot forty two percent tonight, thirty five at eighty four. And it's, as Brett Brown said, this certain that you know your weaknesses are revealed. There's no secrets when you play a team five to six seven times, and that that's the kind of game it was. I thought they took time, a little too much time at points getting into their offense. But all told, just an absolutely incredible game. I mean, just Wade, like I said, found the fountain

of youth. He's a gold medalist, a three time NBA champion, came back in and he sensed the moment and he found his shot. And that's what the superstar players do. And obviously he's in the waning portion of his career, but he comes back to Miami tonight, he comes back a hero. Seventy six ers drop a one o two, one on one decision to Miami. Joel Embiide with twenty three points, nine of sixteen from the field, had to

deal with foul trouble throughout the night. Thought Tom that dario scharge was tremendous, giving this team a needed boost in the second half. He finished with twenty one and shrugged off of first half where his shot just wasn't going down. Oh, Dario is just he's unbelievable. He plays so hard, he's so easy to root for. He's just incredible,

And you're right, he had a tremendous game. And because of his size, because he oftentimes spaces the floor, he gets open and he battles for rebounds, he just dives. I thought that was a very tough call that he was whistled on the foul on Wayne in the corner. And let's face it, in a game that came down to the very end, three free throws for Dwayne Wade that was pivotal, So you know, you can't fault Thario.

He was just incredible in terms of the way he battled and fought in this game and quite frankly, you know, helped the Sixers, put them, put them in a position where they were down the stretch. He played great. Sixers come up one point short one o two, one oh one on the road at Miami, and the bench time had its moments tonight two at various points in the game, no doubt I thought so I thought that the bench, you know, in terms of the Sixers reserves outscored them

or outplay them. You know. The scoring maye me not because it was offset by wage twenty seven and they got nine from Kelly Olinok. But Marco Belinelli had a good night off the bench, and certainly the hustle and play just not necessarily just stats, but the way we're Sean and TJ played really helped out the Sixers. McConnell had seven points, three assists, three rebounds were Shawn had six points and that was the bulk of the scoring for the seventy six ers. Infect those are the only

three because they had twenty six points. Weighed himself at twenty seven, but that group a mirror. Even though he didn't have a he didn't score and a couple of times he was denied by Whiteside. He played well at times. So I mean, the Sixers starters, Bryan, you tell me, but numericaly, I guess they're the best in the NBA. And I think he needed a little bit more off the bench, to be sure. But they certainly played with a lot of heart and fight. It was hard, you know,

and Beat had a good game. He was nine of sixteen, but most of his game for the most of his points came from the outside, where he was keeping Whiteside away from the basket. It was tough, though. The Sixers go in there there. They're a very good defensive team. They really recovered well. They clogged up the middle. It was difficult. That's where a lot of the Sixers turnovers

came in the middle. Thinking they had a guy Beat and then they would get in there and all of a sudden there was no space, and then they would try to pass it in tight quarters in the lane. And these players are too big, too athletic, they cover too much space. They're great defensively, and that's really kind of NBA players in general. And it was difficult. So the Sixers got to clean things up a little bit offensively. This was a game you hope to kind of get

back on track after a tough loss in Washington. And like I said, they played, they played so well, they had Miami at bay and yet the heat able to come back and I'll score the Sixers in the second half and come away with a victory and sets up another big game, you know in March here when the Sixers return, but again on Thursday, you know, against Cleveland who has obviously changed their course of their season with a big trade earlier this month. And you know, it's hard.

It's life in the NBA in terms of playing well and having the game and yet losing and then having last second shot that didn't go. But you got to come right back with renewed injury energy and try it again and do it again on Thursday day night. Good veteran perspective as always from the one and only Tom McGuinness After a tough one for the Sixers tonight one O two, one on one, Tom talks to you on Thursday, and it's definitely been something and a theme that Brett

Brown has hit upon as of late. It's like, what are you focusing on this time of year? You're looking at the standings every day, and Brett's response has been pretty consistent in that, No, we're trying to get time, score, situational things down at this stage of the year, figuring

stuff out. And it's going to be neat to go back at this one and dig in a little bit closer as far as who was on the floor when in crunch time of this game for the seventy sixers, because that could very well give a preview of what could happen for the Sixers, or at least at this stage, what they might be thinking about as far as simulating and drawing up for the playoffs, or maybe they take a few things away, learn a few things, and do

things differently the next time. The good news for the Sixers is they still have a couple games in hand, and they're two in front of the Heat and the lost column. Although Miami moves to within a game. Officially, of the Sixers in the standings, they have the Cleveland caval There's coming up next, as Tom said on Thursday, but before we talk more about that matchup, we'll get to some highlights on the other side. It's the postgame show on the Sixers Raider Network seventy Sixers and the

Miami Heat at American Airlines Arena. Round one of two between these two teams or the course of the next two weeks and their final two matchups of this season, really entertaining battles the first two times round up here in the Delaware Valley, a chance to move it to South Florida for key games in the Eastern Conference playoff race. As we recapped this one tonight, the Sixers and the

Heat pretty even the first six minutes of play. It would stay that way as the Heat jumped in front seventeen to fifteen and the Sixers got a big run going capped off by this play to end the first quarter. And here's allowed to comming. Tonny Japson hook one hand, Robert Comington throws it down. Well, that works, Miami stunned. Great screen by Rashaun Holt and Comington throws it down. Sixers scored the final nine points of the first quarter.

They extended that run to eleven straight going into the second. They increased their lead to thirty five to twenty three on an ice play by Ben Simmons, but the heat would have run in them. Over the next three and a half minutes, they scored fifteen points in a row, with Hassan white Side making an impact. The Sixers went to their special team's options and once again closed out

the quarter with an energizing pivotal contribution. TJ looking looking and finally gets it in the JJ Reddick at mid court, Reddick with a dribble, Reddick at the Dario Darry with it's gone at the end of the opening clurt. Dario Shirt scores with a half a second to go. That was with a half second left in the second quarter of The Sixers went into the break leading forty eight

to forty five. Miami trouble shooting. While both teams had troubleshooting outside the arc and perhaps the troubleshooting in general in the first half, but a couple of quick threes from Tyler Johnson early on in the third tied up the game and then sent the Heat in front and the race was on. Joel Embiid picked up his fourth foul early on in the third quarters to the Sixers were looking for some sort of boost. Dary charge more

than willing to take on that responsibility. Ten ties. Tent Lee changes third quarter Sixers Baal weddeck outside right, Dario, he wants a three. It's up at it Dario Shark from J. J. Ruddick and the Sixers have gone from ice cold from beyond. It's a hot right every he fought, well, what would that make Dario scharche He would score the next nine points for the seventy sixers. Then had to say, in this one, but Ben gets it back into a mirror, not a Dario, don't look past it's a damn by seventh.

Oh yeah, Dario Shark with a great beat and down lows I was saying, no, Look. It was sixty seven to fifty eight. At that point you start to think, all right, the Sixers putting themselves in a good spot. But Dwayne Wade Gon Dragicic got things going in the Heat's favor. It was a two point game, Sixers up seventy five seventy three going into the fourth, Joel and bead quickly picked up a fifth foul. Sixers bench got

things wrapped up. Marco Belinelli with back to back three pointers where Sean Holmes giving some nice minutes in the front court ended in front court in La Lobster Shawn for Shawn bumped by James Johnson, no call back to Dower Innate charged laws that his loues. He gains it back, he dies, it's out the fer Shawn picks it up ag to shoot homes against Olynic, bores his shoulder into and puts it in a tough book by forshawn Home. Miami would respond with a run to the score of

eleven to one. Game tied at eighty seven, Sharks with a go ahead three pointer, but the Sixers and the heat still neck and neck. Jj Reddick found while shooting a three, he knocked all three free throws down to make it ninety eight ninety five with one forty seven ago. Dwayne Wade with a basket to make it a one point game. Joel Ebad summing up some stuff playing down the stretch in foul trouble up a high screen by it beat back to Joel It beat drives out of

whiteside in La Hanks puts it up. No good, he got it, check that he got it. Wait, put it in and teeter it on the rib. He dipped under whiteside and scored it. One hundred and ninety seven seventy sixers Dwayne Wade. He was found while shooting a three of his own own. He knocked down all three with twenty seven seconds left, one hundred a piece. Then Wade

would intentionally foul Ben Simmons. Simmons missing the first, hitting the second with twenty three point eight seconds to go, and then it was time to go into the way back machine. Wait at the top of the geat Simmons is on him. Wait with a gribble step back shot in the air. It's good. Five point nine to go and Miami has taken a leak. No wait, wait, what's the heat up? One o two, one oh one. They would stay up. The Sixers got a great wide open look at the top of the arc to JJ Reddick

as time was expiring. It was an inbounds play where Simmons took a given go from Reddick, dribbled to the side of the lane, drew the attention, kicked it to the corners. Charts then swung it up top, but Reddick was not able to get the three pointer to go, and the Miami Heat escaped with a one point win. Sixers shoot just under forty two percent from the field, Miami forty four and a half percent. Twelve three pointers

for the Sixers, nine for the Heat. Sixers, nineteen of twenty three from the foul line Miami plus two from the stripe in the game, twenty one of twenty eight. Sixers were plus six on the glass. With a big disparity in this one tonight, twenty three turnovers to Miami seventeen the Sixers minus eight in terms of points scored off turnovers, Miami had twenty six of them. Dwayne Wade a season high twenty seven points. This was his sixth

game back with the Heat since the trade deadline. Head of sixteen from the field, two of four outside the arc, five of five from the free throw line. Joellanbiad led the Sixers with twenty three points and thirty minutes, three of six from outside the arc. He also had eight rebounds and four assists, but five turnovers and five personal fouls.

Twenty one for Dario Charch seven of fourteen from the field, three of seven from three point territory, seventeen points for Charch in the second half, fifteen for Edick Ben Simmons with eleven, six and six. He had four personal fouls and four turns in the game. Marco Belinelli off the bench with thirteen and Rashawn Holmes with six points, seven

rebounds and a couple of blocked shots. Once again good minutes from him playing alongside Joellen biad for a decent portion of tonight's game, Eleven lead changes and thirteen ties in the matchup seventy sixers, with the lost now thirty two and twenty seven, the Miami Heat improved to thirty two and twenty nine. Sixers game their lead for seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings now at a game.

The four game season series between the Sixers and the Heat is two to one in favor of the Sixers, but a rematch coming in eight days. Back in American Airlines Arena in South Florida, looking at the scoreboard of note, the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled one out against the Brooklyn Nets one twenty nine to one twenty three. That means Cleveland is now three and a half games in front of the Sixers for third place, and the Milwaukee Bucks fall at home to the Washington Wizards one oh seven two

one oh four. So, on the one hand, the Sixers stay within the game of Milwaukee for sixth place in the Eastern Conference, but within the last two games the Sixers fall farther back behind the Washington Wizards. See this is we can tell this staring to get a little bit much to process buyers, truly. But with the win, the Wizards are now two and a half games in front of the Sixers for fourth place in the East. Time to give you off to a man who's fresh and ready to take your phone calls at six zero

six three two zero nine seventy five. His name is Von Gibbons. He's the Fanatics Sixers insider and evening host. Extraordinary standing by big thanks to Alan Yates and Tyler Zulie. Back here at the studio now for the radio voice of the seventy six Ers, Tom mcguinnis Brian Selzer saying so long for now. On final time, the final score heat on Dwayne Wade's game winner one two one oh one. Over. The Sixers have a great rest are Tuesday Night, from all of us here at the Sixers Raider Network.
