This is seventy Sixers. Rewind time now to listen back to postgame reaction from the team's most recent game. He's the Philadelphia seventy Sixers postgame show, a Sixers win, n Jimmy Butler for the game, Winnie Triple Are you Kenny Bay the Sixers postgame show right now? Ninety five the fanatic? Do you have it? Other nights you don't, And unfortunately for the seventy Sixers, the latter came into play tonight, a one twenty nine ninety five loss on the road
at Moda Center to the Portland Trailblazers. My name is Brian Seltzer from Sixers dot Com. We're gonna hear from Tom McGuinness once again. We expect to hear from seventy Sixers head coach Brett Brown. Tough one for the seventy Sixers this evening without Choel Embiid. You knew it was going to be a challenge. The team announced before the game that the all star seven footer was going to miss tonight's game, his second game that he's missed this season,
and did a sourness in his left knee. Six Ers. Actually, I thought got off to a relatively energetic, encouraging start. In the first three or four minutes they went up thirteen to seven, but after that the Trailblazers closed the first quarter on a twenty four to seven run, scored the first twelve points of period number two, and that was about it. Let's check in with Brett Brown, player
of the year. You know you feel him. Whether you look at the points in the paints it's sixty two to thirty, whether you look at the rebounding margin, and I think the guys that we had, we just struggled defending them. We missed a lot of shots. We had a hard time defending them, and the combination as lethal. When you look down and you end up a game with thirteen more shots than the opponent and you know, only eleven turnovers, you wouldn't think the margin is the margin.
But eight for forty three at eighteen percent from threes, you know our wings with fourteen for forty six, and it's it's hard to overcome that against a really good team on their home court. I know that you could said one of the things tonight was getting Jimmy Butler started early. Sometimes guys just have off nights. Was it one of those nights, I think so like he cares,
he puts in work. You know, we've all been spending a lot of time together trying to find comfort zones and where people you know, operate the best and how they interact as teammates. And it takes time. And he's prideful, he cares, he's inquisitive, and we're gonna move on like this. This is this is one of those games. You put it to bed. We got two more games on this road trip and regroup. Seventy six Ers head coach Brett Brown after the team's won twenty nine ninety five loss
at Portland Tonight. Sixers now twenty three and fourteen on the season, one and two on this season long five game road trip. Jim Butler did get off to a tough start tonight, miss his first seven shots overall, finished two of twelve and twenty six minutes for five points. He did have six assists for the seventy six sixers, led by Ben Simmons with nineteen, Jj Reddick eleven on three of eleven shooting off the bench, t J McConnell
with fourteen. With the Sixers threatened modestly midway through the second quarter was behind a flurry from t. J. McConnell. The Trailblazers called a time out after the margin was brought, as I said, to fifteen points. But then the starters came in for rip City after that, and they quickly regained control Portland and not trailed by any fewer I beg your pardon. Portland did not lead by no less
than twenty four points in the second half. A flat out dominant performance led by c. J. McCollum for the Blazers thirty five points for him, fifteen for Damian Lillard. A lot of stuff went their use off. Narkitchi had fourteen points, seven rebounds, three assists in the game. And Alfreu Camino he was a very important presence, especially to getting Portland jump started down the stretch of that first quarter. He had sixteen points and eight rebounds for the Blazers.
Tonight on ninety five the final We'll speak with Tom McGinnis. Coming up next, it's the postgame showing the Sixers Rated Network Sixers Basketball ninety seven five. Seventy six Ers knocked off in Portland one twenty nine to ninety five now twenty three and fourteen on the season one and two on this season long five game trip,
my name's Brian Seltzer. Nineteen for Ben Simmons, fourteen for TJ McConnell, thirty five from CJ mccollumn of the Trailblazers, fifteen for Damian Lillard. Blazer shot fifty nine percent in the game. The seventy Sixers held to thirty five and a half percent from the field, eight to forty three from outside the ark. Bringing Tom McGinnis from Moda Center, who called tonight's game Tom, the Sixers I thought came out with a decent amount of energy that obviously wasn't sustained.
Where do you think this one turned against them? Well, you know, I agree, you know, and it looked like Simmons was being very assertive, like he was going to get a lot of the down low post catches, and you know he did early. And yet it's not just Amno or whome Evan Turner. You know, once you get by one of those guys. You had Nurkitch down there, and he's such a big guy. Ben ended up with twelve attempts from the field, ten tries from the nine and then they just they got hot, you know, I
mean the Portland just started. CJ McCollum was, you know, unstoppable. And it's amazing duo because obviously Lillard is the guy that you presume is going to do the most damnag you had forty last night. He helped him win the game and overtime down in Oakland last Thursday in that victory over the Warriors. And yet you know, it's a it's a very prolific combination. And you know these guys that can really light it up, like last night here
Thompson and Durant and Curry. The two guys had twenty five, play had thirty two. I mean, and that's that's the way the game is. And the Sixers they just didn't they you know, they certainly have Reddick in that regard, and he really struggled tonight, and so did Jimmy Butler,
and so it was really Ben and TJ McConnell. And I already alluded to the plus minus of McConnell, and I thought he played well, but he was on the court when the Blazers outscored the Sixers to the tune of thirty eight points, so he was, you know, what's referred to as as a minus thirty eight. TJ had fourteen points. He was six of seven, but they, you know, they did a number on the Sixers while he was
out there. So it was like that was the first question posed that coaches this one of those nights, and it was and it doesn't excuse it or anything, but it chose you how much they miss indeed, you know, was defensive player and the offense he gives them. And then the Sixers were flat, and there's you know, that's hard to explain. And again, oftentimes, you know, I don't know that even coaches know how their team's got to perform. You would have thought the Sixers were in a good place.
They had a really convincing win theirselves on Thursday night against Utah, and yet they were the team that didn't have the energy and the fight. And it was all Portland here tonight, and the game was basically over by halftime. One ninety five. Portland wins it at Moda Center. Now time up next for the seventy Sixers as they head into the home stretch of this road trip. It's the start of a back to back versus the LA Clippers.
That game is on New Year's Day. The seventy Sixers knocked off the Clips one two, one thirteen back on November first. But this LA team is playing well. They went through a rough stretch earlier on in the month of December, but they've recovered. They did lose against San Antonio yesterday, but they've been playing better basketball. Tobias Harris a possible All Star candidate, and they've got a really
balanced top five unit, no doubt about it. And this was thought to be, you know, a year where you know, the West is so thick with very good teams and the competition, and I don't remember a lot of teams going look out for the Clippers, and yet Doc Rivers is a really good coach and it's come together. You're right, Harris is playing really well, and that's going to be a very difficult game down there, and particularly you don't
know and bead status. Brett Brown was saying that this tonight, the sitting Joel was mostly precautionary, so one would like to think he'd be able to play and that'll be a big difference in that game. And then I think when you lose like this as a competitive group, you're going to come back and show a lot more fight. Does not necessarily mean you're going to win the games. You still have to execute and get it done on you know, an opposing teams floor. But that that's a
big game. I mean, that could tilt the balance of whether this becomes a winning road trip or not. So far the Sixers are one and two, but yeah, the Clippers are gonna be a tough out to be sure. Alrighty, Tom, enjoy the rest of what is left of your night and the West Coast and will talk to you on New Year's Day. Good night, Thank you, Brian seventy Sixers lose in Portland one twenty nine to ninety five, will recap from the final numbers, play a couple of highlights

Brian Seltzer from sixers dot coms We've got nowt to a couple highlights from tonight's game. It was a decent start for the seventy sixers. They were with at Joe Ellen Bid, but they got off to a pretty spirited start and JJ Reddick was in the mix. Al Reddick top of the arc,
three ball and good JJ Reddick with a laser right over. CJ. Mccama and the sixers by four. They're five for five from the field. Eleven to seven was the score. They went up by as many as six at thirteen to seven, and then things started it to change. The Portland Trailblazers zoomed in front nineteen to fourteen. Ben Simmons with one
of his highlights on the night. Here's Ben down low with a catch and a layup, is up and around and good but Scala with the infry feed from beyond the three point arc straight away and seventh with the inside basket, so he's getting a lot of action around the goal. He's got seven, as does Reddick. Only a three point game in favor of Portland at that point, nineteen to sixteen. But the Trailblazers would go on to score the next five points and finished the first quarter
on a run of twelve two two. They liked thirty one to twenty after one. CJ. Mccollumn, big reason why but Collum the lehigh productle to pull up on Jonah Pold that he's got five in a road right hand shot. McCollum lived from seventeen and scores it straight away. Blazers mean while twelve of seventeen seventy percent. They would continue to shoot lights out to open the second period, scoring the first twelve points of the frame to go by
twenty three forty three to twenty CJ. McCollum, he would not slow down for much of the time he's spent on the court. Tonight, Amino tips at ball comes free and McCollum gets a layup. Landry, Shammon and Ruddick go down. Alf Brooke Aminos so active sets up a second chance and an easy basket for mccamum. They made it fifty nine thirty six in the second quarter of the seventy sixers. They were down seventy to forty one at the break. They would not get any closer than twenty four points
in the second half. Trailblazers biggest leave the night at forty three. They go on to win at one, twenty nine, two and ninety five. Seventy six Ers now twenty three and fourteen on the year, Trailblazers improved to twenty one and sixteen. Trailblazers shot fifty nine percent for the game, the Sixers thirty five and a half percent. Sixers eight of forty three from three, the Trailblazers were twelve of twenty two. Only eleven turnovers for the seventy six or
twenty one for the Blazers. But Portland just dominated the seventy sixers on the glass without and beat tonight fifty nine to thirty six. They also out scored the seventy sixers sixty two to thirty in the paint and eighteen to eleven on second chance opportunities. Some pretty telling stats right there about the effect that Joe ollenbad has and conversely does not have when he's unavailable. For the Sixers game, highest scoring total went to c. J mccollumn with thirty
five points, his second highest total of the season. Seventy Sixers were led by Ben Simmons with nineteen He was seven to twelve in the field, five of ten from the line, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in twenty five minutes of action. Fourteen points for t Jim McConnell off the bench, He only missed one of his seven shots in the game. Demitriz Jackson played ten minutes down the stretch in the fourth quarter when the game
was out of hand, Button he scored ten points. A two way player for the seventy Sixers, Jimmy Butler miss his first seven shots. He finished two of twelve to five points. JJ Reddick with eleven three to eleven from the field. Seventy six Ers just did not have it tonight. They do have on New Year's Day a date at
ten to thirty Eastern with the LA Clippers. The Clippers have won four of their last six games after dropping six out of seven, and they are a top team in the Western Conference at twenty one and fifteen on the year. Tobias Harris has been great, so two has Danilo Gallinari. There's Avery Badley, a tough defender in the backcourt, and also Shy Gildis Alexander, a lottery pick for the Clippers this past summer and he's been playing pretty well,
averaging ten and a half points per game. So the tip time at ten thirty Eastern on New Year's Day.
