Anyway, Anyhow, the seventy Sixers trying to close out a somewhat uneven month in positive fashion, looking for a win. They got that in Denver tonight, one oh seven, one h two behind a powerful second half, an amazing run thirty three to eight bridging the third and fourth quarters after it seemed like they were in not a great spot with the Nuggets ripping off the first eleven points of quarter at number three. Brian Seltzer with you on the postgame show. Thanks for tuning in. We are expecting

to hear from Sixers head coach Brett Brown. We'll revisit with Tom McGinnis and playback some of his highlight calls as well. Tom and I talked about this during the pregame show that one of the themes as of late that Brett Brown delivered to the Sixers figure out how to arrest runs, avoid meltdowns, especially in the second half, meltdown borrowing a word that he used in recent days. And there the bugaboo was daring the seventy Sixers right smack dab in the face, and man did they answer.

Collective effort bench was tremendous. Charge Bayliss in particular, let's go to the head coach right now, didn't you have a team and you know, to have Jared come in and do what he did, and have Trevior's energy and tj doing what he did. Um, you know, our second half defense in general, and starting out and inspired by that sort of chunk of the game in the third period, just a little set the stage and let us carry

it out for the for the wine. These this team is elite as a scoring team, and our offense wasn't the problem. And there were too many like easy baskets. There were too much easy stuff at the rim, and it was going to require something exceptional defensively for us to leave with a win. And it needed to start there. And let's just admit it because right now it's not happening.

And I thought that that we responded. Uh, you know, I thought that that Jared, particularly, you know, I'm proud of because he has been down and trying to help him put him in an environment where he can get back some of his swagger and his mojo and feel good about himself. And uh, kind of those two things were sort of my focal point of the of the half. And you know, those guys were great. We give him a lot of credit in this position before where you get down, you go up and then it doesn't always

go her way. So what was different tonight that you guys were able to hold on to it? I think a defense was was elite. I think that um, you know, we we came down and we played decent offensive basketball. But I feel like a defense ultimately was the thing that put us in the shape that we needed to be put in late. I went with JJ and Dario and different. Look, you know, we gave JB the ball

when they were trying to foul Ben. And I think that the end of game sort of execution highlighted by the defense was was very very good and it needed to be. Did you guys try to foul Mason Plumbing? Or was that just thee we tried to file Mason Plumbing? And I think that it helped us. You know, we we we did a pretty good job of understanding, you know, you always stare him two minutes up because you can't do it after that unless he has the ball. And I thought we did a pretty good job of fouling

him prior to the two minutes. And I thought we did a pretty good job of fouling him when he had the ball illegally, then we were able to He ended up one for seven from the free throw line and it certainly helped us. I thought it changed their offensive rhythm. What's the signific? I mean the stuff you'd

expect me to say, the group is fantastic. And when you don't have wins to show and reflect that comment, then a you know, to validate the work that they put in, the fact that they are good play is in their own right. And we do have a team and they practice hardy, they they co exist in a locker room well, and we haven't had one of those since last time. I'm told what was in November in Utah. And to get one, you know, on the road without

Joe is a credit to a team effort. Indeed, it was one oh seven, one h two seventy six Ers over the Denver Nuggets on the road, a place where Denver had only lost three times at Pepsi Center, Sixers trailed by fourteen points about five minutes in the third quarter, seventh straight from Dario char Schlitt, the fused and Jared Baylis in less than four minutes of regulation scored all fourteen of his points, none bigger than the eight in a row he racked up, capped off by a three

pointer to begin quarter number four the night before he heads back home to Phoenix with a seventy Sixers play tomorrow, No Joel Ebad, Sixers still find a way to get it done. Dario Charge leads all players on the Sixers with twenty points, Robert Covington a fifteen point ten rebound double double, fourteen points apiece for Jared Ballis and Rashaun Holmes off the bench. Do not overlook t J McConnell

tonight ten points, eight assists. He had his fingerprints all over that big run that ended up linking the third and fourth quarters, and Brett Brown went to him in crunch time as well. One oh seven, one h two the final, JJ Reddick very steady. We're going to get into all of this with Tom McGinnis, who's standing by. Next, it's the postgame show and the Sixers Raider Network. Seventy six Ers buckle down and half number two and emerged from Pepsi Center in Denver with a one oh seven,

one h two victory. Brian Seltzer with you on the postgame show. Tom McGinnis joins us now Tom there were a lot of good things in the second half, but all in all, the Sixers, the big team has been figure out ways to arrest runs. They stared in the face, they did it, defense stepped up, and we saw balance from across the shorthanded roster. Book of Dano considered the Nuggets arrested. That's right, Sixers outscoring them by eight in

the second half, and it didn't look good. I mean, Denver the first start of the third quarter was choppy, but in the end Denver scored eight points, so they're adding to their lead, and eventually, like I said, it got to fourteen, and that's when the Sixers started to come alive a little bit. It was great to see Bayliss strike the fire, if you will, and then he wanted the ball. The Sixers found him and in that stretch he only hit one three that's all he had

in the game. And then a little bit thereafter I'm not exactly sure timing wise chronologically when, but that's when they started filling plumbly. I thought that was interesting that the reporters said, coach, were you're trying to fill plumbly? Well, yeah, of course, and it worked. And like I said, you know Brett Brown has commented before, particularly when you know it occurred with Ben at home against Washington, said, hey, we've employed this strategy before and we will do it again.

Not a fan of it, Brett Brown, but certainly in an effort to try to help his team win and to take advantage of the rules, they did it. And I was a little surprised that Mike Malone left him in there. Now it's not like plumbing miss nine in a row, but he went one for three or one for four. And you know, the sixers, it's not only important that they come away empty, but you gotta come down and take advantage of an empty possession. And I

thought Daria was great overall. Robert Covington certainly had his moments. TJ was terrific, a Mere Johnson was good. And again, like I've said dozens and dozens of times, well not as much during the ten win season, but when you have a victory and people step up, you get multiple solid performances from a number of your contributors, and that's what helps you get over the top. And as Brett Brown said, that's part of team Let's go to Baylis

for quick second. He's heading back home later tonight with the squad going to be there tomorrow. He is a guy who seems to take his work so seriously, and we haven't seen it necessarily consistently translate in recent weeks, but for him to enjoy a sequence like that in a moment and then the release, it looked like he felt after hitting that three point or make a ninety one eighty, you just you feel for a guy who puts in the work, you feel good for him. Yeah,

it was visceral. I mean you could totally see his reaction and like you said, that was like a pressure release. It's almost like, you know, he almost puts too much pressure on himself because clearly he puts in as much, if not more work than any other six or you know, again, you can only say first person in last person to leave about one guy, right right, I would say he's the guy. I mean, you hear that so often you're like, well, how many guys can do that on a given team?

I thought it was only one guy. But he's the guy. He puts in a lot of work. He's at the training complex. I mean, he's just he stays late after practice, and you know that's that's the name of his game. And I actually thought he did a pretty good job defensively because Brian and you would agree, like Murray was playing like he looked like he might get fifty at

Devin Booker type performance where nobody could stop him. And how good he played in the first half, and there were times where Bayliss was able to curtail him a little bit, and they got good shots in the second half. They just in large parts they didn't miss him. They took eighteen threes and only made three in the second half. They shot twenty three free throws in the second half. That's an amazing total. And yogis despite good numbers. I

thought he was up and down. You know, it's almost like Joel he can have a great statistical night and you're thinking could have been better. I mean, that's how talented these guys are that they're able to do this without maybe their their A game, but more than anything else, just a great, great amount of fight and to come in here and play this team that had been winning

so well, they're destined to go to the playoffs. They've got a prolific scoring team right now, and for the Sixers to come in and just gut it out and gain the victory was fun to watch. You know. It's funny because last New Year's either the Sixers were at Denver grinding out a one twenty four one twenty two victory,

and here they were tonight. They still have one more game to go in twenty seventeen, tomorrow, But you think, if this team can get fully healthy, the hope you would have to feel from their thinking is like, let's use this, let's jump start a coming back home. The great game in London coming up in a few weeks. But you get him beat back tomorrow night, you would think against the Phoenix Suns and a chance against a

team whose record is not terrific on paper. But the Suns got him the first time, as you said, and they actually haven't playing pretty well as of late. No, I mean, you make a wide point. That's all true. The only thing about the London game it's against Boston, it's right, so well, good experience for us who don't have to play the game. No, But that aside to your point. I mean, like Brett Brown said, even as poorly as they've played record wise, there are a lot

of good signs and they're improving. And as you say, if they can get healthy and then have their work and the progress that he's talking about validated with victories, well that gets your confidence going. And it's just like anything else. Is like where the Sixers have been in the tails been record wise and watching the losses pile up,

you know, it ends up, that's how it goes. But if you're playing well, you want to play as much as possible, and you're gonna have a heavy dosage of home games over the last three months of the schedule. They want to do better at home, and they still have a chance. I mean, now they're two games out of a playoff picture, and so even though they had a brutal month of December up until now, as you said,

that month of January, you can't bank on that. You have to go out there and execute and make it happen. But it's still, you know, like it's like falling down big as we've seen in games. And yet it's a long game and you got a chance to come back. Well, I mean you can't really, you can't endure another bad spell like this, okay, but you still have a chance

to get back into the mix. Knock off some of these teams and head to head competition and play you know, consistently well, start to trend higher and like I said, wind finish out games close about better control the basketball, get stops and do all the things that they did here tonight to be able to punch through and get a victory. Tom and Guinnis had a great call tonight. We're gonna hear some of those highlights next. Tom. Enjoy the rest of the evening and talk to you tomorrow. Okay,

good night, Brian, Thank you. One oh seven, one h two, seventy Sixers victorious over the Denver Nuggets at Pepsi Center. This was a needed win on night when the Sixers did not have Joel Embiid. Everybody stepped up. Team victory. They got it done. We'll get into the details a little bit furthermore final segments. On the other side. It

is the postgame show on the Sixers Rated Network. Second to last game of the two thousand and seventeen calendar year for the seventy Sixers are going to bounce back after one got away on Thursday in the Pacific Northwest. Brian Seltzer with you from Sixers dot Com. Tonight the seventy Sixers in the Mile High City and they were looking to begin their final back to back of the

two thousand and seventeen calendar year. Pretty competitive pace. At the outset of the first quarter, Sixers and the Nuggets went back and forth. Ben Simmons with an opportunity to put the Sixers in front. Light Sibbons on the back down gets by. Craig Now steps by one man lays it up. It is fans wanted to travel ball, but Ben Simmons with the underhand, right hand scoop from just inside the elbow, and his first basket of the game

put the Sixers in front by a single point. I don't know if the Sixers did not have Joel Embiid, who was already in Phoenix resting for the back end of the back to back tomorrow, or Shaun Holmes. The final four points of the first quarter, Sixers in front thirty one to twenty nine, butts. Things would turn around in the second quarter as the Nuggets would snap off the first eight points of the period and that would put them in control. Sixers got some very steady contributions

from JJ Reddick throughout the night. They had fallen behind by seven, and we're trying to get some momentum back. Here's Reddick little all down court. The Sixers strike quickly. They feed it all the way down the court to Ruddick points beyond the yard and a three came at a timely moment. Sixers cut the deposit two fifty five fifty one. They were down by three after another JJ Reddick triple at the break sixty one, two fifty eight start of the third quarter. It felt familiar. Opposing team

goes on a big run for the challenge. Brett Brown post the Sixers in recent days, how do you figure out overcoming these runs? How do you arrest them? Sixers trailed seventy two fifty eight. Dario Charch big, t J spins cut off. He goes to Dario Charch with a layup boy a tight quarters. T J McConnell able to get that pass off at Dario was seven in a row and that got the Sixers run going. They scored eleven straight to make it a three point game. Seventy

two sixty nine. The Nuggets got two free throws, and that's when guys like t J McConnell, Trevor Booker kept the buckets coming. Sixers maintained pressure, stayed within a point. Jared Bayless step ont him enough time to catch fire outside right McConnell, who's had a big hand in his comeback.

He goes to Bayless, three guys around of brakes, free, flips it up and in shared Bayless with a six oh streak for the Sixers and the run now from Philadelphia, twenty one of the last twenty five points in the game, and they're up Briddy. They would score four more points after that to make it a twenty five to four run before the Nuggets scored the final four points of the third eighty three eighty Sixers going into the fourth.

Jared Bayliss not done and as good as he was for that stretch in the third quarter, he was that much better to be in the fourth. Dario with a dary over to Bayliss. Another three by Bayliss shot here he's done it again. Bayliss with his hottest stretch as a sixer, and he is bellowing out with joy. The seventy Sixers up by eleven time out Denver. One oh six is transpired in the fourth and Jared Bayless is on fire here in Colorado, so all set in done.

The run was thirty three to eight for the seventy Sixers, turning a fourteen point deficit into a ninety one to eighty lead. Things would tighten up midway through the fourth quarter and into the final minutes. JJ Reddick a big two pointer to make it one h three ninety seven with about four minutes to go. The Sixers would then go without a field goal until the guts of the game. Things were on the line and Robert Covington was in position to put this one away. Sibbeth steps out about

Sixers leading by three into Bayliss. He's trapped in the corner. Bayliss throws it across the Dario. Dario was seven second coming. Coubbyton is gonna duck the ball four seconds to go five point lead. Robert Commington punctuates the Sixers advantage here in Denver, and that would be the lasting moment from the Sixers five point win in Denver one oh seven two one o two. Final notes from the final stat sheet, Sixers shot forty eight and a half percent from the

field Denver just forty percent. Sixers held him to under twenty seven percent shooting in the second half, six Ers eight of twenty four outside the arc, the Nuggets seven of thirty two. Sixers only ten trips the line, they made nine overcoming Denver, going twenty five of thirty five from the stripe. Sixers outrebounded by seven. They were ultra efficient thirty three dimes on forty five made baskets. They also kept the turnovers down relatively speaking, only thirteen point

of them tonight. That led to just twelve Nuggets points off the turnovers. Individually speaking, game high went to Jamal Murray thirty one points. Did a lot of his damage in the first half. Sixers such a balanced effort tonight without Joel Embiid, six players in double figures, Dario charch

with twenty nine rebounds and six assists. Following him was JJ Reddick with eighteen fourteen apiece for Jared Baillis and Rashaun Holmes off the bench again, Baalis with all fourteen of his points in a span of four minutes between the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth. Robert Covington with a fifteen point, ten rebound double double.

He was six of eleven from the field, one of six outside the Arcs so that meant five of five from the interior, a pretty solid night for Covington, fighting through the finger injury he suffered in Thursday's loss against the Portland Trailblazers. In tonight's game, which lasted two hours fifteen minutes, there were a total of six league changes in four ties. With the win, the seventy Sixers are now sixteen and nineteen, while the Nuggets dropped to nineteen

and seventeen on the season. Up next for the seventy six ers final game in two seventeen. It'll be well technically if you're listening on the East coast later on today at Talking Stick Resort Arena against the Phoenix Suns, Sixers will look to avenge the fourteen point loss from earlier this month. Game time is eight o'clock Eastern. That means pregame coverage starts just before then at seven to fifty on some of our Sixers Raider Network affiliates
