This is seventy Sixers. Rewind time now to listen back to postgame reaction from the team's most recent game. Great win for the seventy Sixers to wrap up a three game homestand against some really tough teams, knocking off the San Antonio Spurs one twenty two to one twenty A ten zip run to close things out in the final two minutes forty eight seconds. Tremendous stuff. What's going on on? Brian Seltzer. Seventy Sixers now improved to thirty two and
seventeen on the season. They split the series on the year with the Spurs all two minutes forty eight seconds ago. Marco Belinelli did what we saw him do a lot in the final three months of the season last year. Hit an impressive, leaning contested corner three pointer and ended up putting the Spurs ahead one twenty to one twelve. But the Sixers, they've been playing some great defense as
of late. For the better part of this game, the Spurs were able to find their opportunities offensively, but when it mattered most game on the line, seventy Sixers defense stepped up in a major way. Blocks by Joel Embid and Wilson Chandler in the final moments, all helping set things up for the Sixers to win this one. Yeah, I mean you think back to ebid with under two minutes to go, Demarda Rosen came and driving in and Bed turned them away to keep the margin at six.
And then after the Sixers went in front one twenty one to one twenty on a four point play by JJ Reddick with sixty seconds to go, Wilson Chandlers standing tall protecting the rim and turning aside Demarda Rosen on a one footer. San Antonio had an opportunity with just over a second to go after the Sixers got a free throw from Corey Brewer to make it a two point game. Spurs could not get the playoff as Ben Simmons tipped the pass, helping the Sixers secure this win,
getting one final key stand. Well, this is what you want to see, you know, the Sixers, they're in this stretch right now. I mean you can probably recite it with me. How many games against teams with winning records twelve going into the All Star Break. What has been an area the seventy Sixers have tried to shore up over the course of this season defense and going back to last Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the defense
totally trending in the right direction. Now, you could say that statement from a statistical standpoint before tonight, over the last four games. You know, if you looked at some of their numbers, their defensive rating, sixers, they would be among the top defenses in the league if you look at the numbers they were putting up over the last four But tonight this was more about eye test watching
the game. I mean, you look down at the final stat sheet, Spurs shot fifty seven and a half percent from the field, thirteen of twenty seven from outside the arc. You know, you look at those two numbers alone, and if you were just going to go based off that, you might say, well, the Sixers defense wasn't good tonight. This Spurs are one of the most highly efficient shooting teams, one of the best shooting teams in the entire league. And that's what they did tonight. They didn't put up
the highest volume number of shots. They took eleven fewer shots in the seventy six ers, but shot for a terrific percentage. But the Sixers, they overcame that and once again the final two minutes forty eight seconds kept the Spurs off the scoreboard and went on to win this one, one twenty two to one twenty Who did great? Joe el Embiid obviously thirty three points, nineteen rebounds. Massive night
for the big man. JJ Reddick. Statistically speaking, his shooting not up to where you would expect it, but nineteen points, six of thirteen from outside the arc. I mean, who cares about his shooting percentage? He made the four point play to put the seventy Sixers in front with a minute to go. That was enormous. Ben Simmons picking up his eighth triple double of the year twenty one points, ten rebounds and fifteen assists. Landry Shammot with fourteen off
the bench. T J McConnell was great in the first half. He finished with ten points, eight rebounds. I believe we have Brett Brown at the podium right now. After the Sixers one twenty two one twenty win. I thought Wilson helped was maybe the main reason we won the game. When you look at it, you know, I think we scored the last ten points and regulate in regulation at
the end of the game. And I think when you really zoom in and you look at the plays, you you look at the plays that Wilson was making, and we were comfortable, you know, having him on de Rosen. I thought he did a good job on a bunch of different people. But in general, when you go back and you see Wilson Chandler play tonight, defensively, he was He was great on a bunch of people, and I trusted the physicality that he brought to the table. You're down eight with two and change to play. How were
you able to come back and win defense? You know, like we we had. They didn't score a point from that point on. They didn't score a point. And I think, like when you go back at it, you know, Ben had a steel for a dunk, sham, it hits the corner. Three. We run a play that we sort of saved for the end with JJ and you know, ends up getting a three n fouled um. But it was was all sort of stemmed. It all sort of stemmed from our defense.
Entire season. You've always focused on the defensive ended the four. So when you're when you're watching that and then those final minutes and the reason you win the game and defensives all coming together. What's going through your mind? I mean, I think that we're playing good defense lately. I feel like we did against Houston. I thought at times tonight we did it was it was more evident the last few minutes. I think we had six stops consecutive stops
in a row. I mean, how about Joel's block during one of that those series of stops. Um, But I feel like we were coming together defensively. There were times tonight I thought we had lapses some of those. You know, younger players got the better of us and they found open space for threes. But I tell you what, when it matted, and when it matted most um, defensively we were there. Landry at the end, how a person have
you been with us? His continuous grow everything that's you've seen from I mean, he really has a UM and I think some of it's because he's been rewarded so much. He's got an ability to sprint to a corner, find his feet, catching shoot a corner three that the whole league rates as hot. Nobody's allowed to shoot corner threes for the reasons we all know. And he still finds his feet, he still finds his spot, he still takes off as an athlete, and then he gets it off
and he's done that time and time again. He hunts corner threes at it tonight, and it just was really timely when he found that open spot and made that open shot. So interesting listening back to that portion of Brett Brown's press conference that the headline players that jump out to him guys like Wilson Chandler and Landry Shammitt, who, judging by box score alone, you know, Joelle and Beads numbers would stand out to you first. Ben Simmons numbers
would stand out to you first. But that's a great sign of a team coming together. Not always I mean Joel, he was fantastic, but getting help in other areas, other guys supporting and aiding the cause. And as Brett put at, the defense from start to finish, maybe not quite as short up as it had been in previous games, but
really when it mattered most. As we were talking about before we heard from Brett, the Sixers defense delivered, holding these Spurs off the scoreboard for the final two minutes forty eight seconds and the Spurs last six possessions of the game one twenty two one twenty A great note for the seventy Sixers to set west on tonight's wrapping up this homestand two and one could have very well
gone three and oh, but against some quality competition. The January seventy Sixers looking like the January seventy sixers we have come to know from past seasons. Tom McGinnis is coming up. Seventy Sixers battle against the San Antonio Spurs game that came down to the wire Spurs led by as many as eight Sixers by as much as ten, the final margin two points one twenty two to one twenty seventy Sixers picking up win number thirty two on the year. I'm Brian Seltzer. Tom mcguinnis called an awesome one tonight, and this was an awesome game time this three game homestand no shortage of excitement, entertainment. Three really good games. So
close to being perfect on this one. But it's been great to see the Sixers bounce back after that tough OKC loss and in particular the defense when it mattered most to night they lock things down. Well, let's get into the homestand into this as we've all called it, like the gauntlet. And I guess you know this is why professional athletes and coach Brown included in that they
look at things differently. In other words, we were like, whoa a little the teams and Sixers have to play, and he was said, Hey, we look at it as a challenge and we want to see where we're at. And that's exactly what happened. They measured up to the competition. They go out to Indiana and beat the Pacers, They come back they had a tremendous game against the thunder and as you say, so close to winning all three
of these home games. Two point lost there blowout win over the Rockets, and then tonight, I got a box here in front of me, Brian, that is San Antonio one twenty, the Sixers one twelve, and there was still two forty six to go in the game. And that's when the Sixers started at ten oh spurt to win
the game. Coach mentioned the sham at three, the big play by JJ Reddick, the defense, and you know you were talking about that, and you hear about Landry and Wilson to your point earlier, and that's what team is. And Beat and Simmons had gaudy numbers. They don't win without those fantastic numbers are crossed the board by the top two players in terms of tonight's game in Joel and Ben. But a tremendous win in San Antonio was so good. I mean, this was really a great game.
I mean the Sixers went forty two possessions to start the game without a turnover. Now they had five in a row shortly thereafter. That was within like the first fourteen minutes of the game. No turnovers. I can't recall any game this year when that was the case. And then you look at the three point shooting. The Sixers ended up making seventeen threes on thirty six tries. That's forty seven percent from three, and San Antonio they shot forty eight percent, but the difference was the Sixers had
four more made threes, I mean. And then to win it with the defense, Wilson blocking DeMarre de Rosa without falling and being able to deflect that ball on a bound to preserve the win. I mean, it was really exciting. And the crowd, man, it was it was just reverberating. It's so much excitement, it's just palpable. It's an incredible home court advantage. Twenty one and five here at home. All good, exciting victory for the Sixers over the Spurs one twenty two, one twenty the final score. I haven't
even said yet that Jimmy Butler. It was a second straight game they didn't play in the seventy six Ers able to be another quality Western Conference team. And you know, this might not be the most juicy storyline that people would want to pay attention to as far as what's happened over the last week and a half. But if you go back to that Minnesota game, if I'm not mistaken,
someone can correct me out there. If I am at Brian Seltzer on Twitter, I believe that was the first game where Brett Brown mixed up the rotation and started using Wilson Chandler at the three more, which you know that's meant furkon cork Mos has not played as much, but having that veteran defensive presence that you can stretch out and flush out over a game and use him in a variety of roles, I mean, I think that
that that's been a huge part of this. We've seen Wilson Chandler's three point makes go up, and we've seen his defensive play on the perimeter really make a big difference in the sixers. It seems like it stabilized things a little bit, made this team look more veteran in nature. I think at least Yeah, no, that's a good point, and you're certainly right about his threes, but I would say his defense, it's like he's reached into the wayback machine and as the Wilson Chandler from four and five
years ago, with how he's playing defense. And you got to remember too, he was a little banged up earlier in the year. I believe he had a hamstring injury. He also had an illness. You're joining a new team. It doesn't it's not something that you just snap your fingers and you insert this veteran player in there who's used to averaging over double figures offense. If you throughout his career has been a real great cover guy defensively, and now you're starting to see that. And boy, I'll
tell you what a presence he's been. What a great advantage is for defense to be able to guard, you know, in turn sometimes Aldridge or a taller player and then come back and defend the Rosen. And then it's also
the intellectual capital that he brings to the table. He knows the Rosen's game, you know, like you could tell that the Rosen was taking that ball off that high screen by LaMarcus Aldridge and taking it to the rack and to be able to beat him to the spot get a hand on the ball without following as I said,
because the Rosen really gets to the line. Exceptional clutch play for the Sixers by by Wilson Chandler one twenty two, one twenty a victory just as good to save her tonight, a close game as it was on Monday, a blowout one of the rockets. All right, Tom, We look ahead Denver Nuggets starting on Saturday, then on Tuesday, the LA Lakers, Thursday, Golden State Saturday, Sacramento Kings. All those teams right now are above or at five hundred, within close striking distance
in the playoff picture. And this should be a really pretty fun road trip, you would think, just from a listen for those of us who don't have a horse in the race and our livelihood doesn't depend on it, it's just going to be a lot of fun to sit back and watch how the Sixers hold up in these tests. Well, no doubt about it. And you figured by Tuesday Lebron might be back in action for the Lakers. He's been out for since Christmas, and I know he's
getting close, to be sure. And then Denver a team that everybody expected to be in the mix, but the way they're playing and now high they're playing, and it's just been Yokich has been incredible, and they've got talented young players. They're playing exceedingly well for Mike Malone. It's always been a difficult place to play. The Sixers had success there. They've been like this one down to the wire seemingly every year. And then of course the Lakers
are in there and Sacramento. Boy, they're really way ahead of the curve, I think, so that'll be exciting. That's at the end of the trip. And again, this is a trip that not unlike the Christmas trip where it's spaced out. This is four games over eight plus days. Same thing with that trip after the Boston game on Christmas Day in Boston where the Sixers are out there for nine days and played four games. So that's really
beneficial in terms of rest and recovery. And you'll probably get a practice in out at UCLA early next week. And I think it's good. The Sixers are playing really well and this is a stretch that everybody knew coming in was gonna be difficult, but as we've said, they're rising to the challenge and that'll be a great matchup at the Pepsi Center. Will be on the air at
nine o'clock from Colorado on Saturday night. Are any time, talk to you, Mile High City, Thank you, good night here in South Philadelphia, seventy Sixers winners at ten nothing run to end the game of the final two minutes forty eight seconds one twenty two, one twenty of the San Antonio Spurs will hear sometimes great highlights from this one on our final segment of the postgame, showing a programming reminder Divine gives in The post is coming up

Will get into the details in a moment. I believe we have Ben Simmons who picked up trible double number eight, and JJ Reddick, who hit the decisive four point play at the podium. So if they're still there, let's listen in I do stuff up and make plays with the one the offensively
and defenses right now. Definitely. I mean when everyone's really stepping up, when you have guys like Land, you you know, they put into a funny position where you know you have to come come into the game, you know, try and do what JJ is doing. Similar. Um, it's tough, but I think you know, guys are just getting more confidence in their ability and you know, we're all trusting in each other, uh for each one of us to do our job the right way. Um, but I think
we're to stepping out. We're learning, um, and everyone's really getting better guys. It's worried us exactly. Corey has been been great. Um again, he's a pro and UM, he's an energy guy. He's just given us a real, um, a real lift when we when we've needed it. Uh, he's been fantastic. UM. I don't know what uh what's going on with um the ten day, but you know, hopefully he's back for for another one. How much was it offensively it's in late. I mean they've put a
lot of fresh round you guys. Um they roll outside show how much of an ever just was? I just it's always exhausting to play those guys. They make you work. Um, there's multiple actions on nearly every play. Um, they're so good at running their offense, They're so good at counters, they're so good at atos. Um, they're a tough team to play. Seventy six Ers veteran guard J. J. Reddick will hear more about him and his role in this one. Well, however long I decided blabber four as we work our
way through these highlights. So let's start the highlights segment of tonight's postgame show. Seventy Sixers got off to a terrific starting early on, Joel and Bead was cooking the rosen on a drive banked and why man Brewers steals the ball six or the head of Simmons Simmons the fourth backpelling goes and Joe headed Bead dumps and hard
throws it down with a right hand jam. Ben Simmons with radar must have known he was behind him and Joel and b with a huge jam seventy Sixers jumped out to a ten to three lead, with San Antonio starting the game two for eight. They ended the first quarter missing only three of their last fifteen shots. They let it after one thirty five to thirty four. On we go to the second quarter. This was not just one of the highlights of tonight's game, but you could
make the season. Jonah Bolden doing a little bit of everything. Derek White dribbles inside of Reddick and feeds aldridg Aldreds goes up blocked by Jonah Bolden and then a dead again Aldreds trying to dunk it at Jonah Bolden blocked it again. Sixers ball Simmons on the run, Simmons and Jonah and a chap Jonah Bollman has arrived from down under. Just awesome. Put the Sixers up fifty three to forty eight.
After nip and tuck start to the second quarter and before the first half was then we gotta hit a little bit more from Ben Simmons and the imprint he left on this game. Simmons with the ball, Simmons in the lain. Simmons goes down the low banks it in hanging in the air, stretching out, he long gating and he baked it in. He's got his third field goal, nine points, nine assists and six rebounds. He would have ten assists before the first half was done, a first
time this year. He had double figure dimes and half number one of the game. The seventy Sixers led by three sixty seven sixty four going into the half. In the third quarter, the Sixers they would have a little bit of an uphill climb. They fell behind by four points twice, but Ben Simmons put the lead back in
their control. Simmons against Rudy Gay nine to shoot, Ben around up, puts it up left the right reverse, great strength, great length, and the layup by Ben Simmons starting outside the lane on the left side in the late a right hand reverse. Rudy Gay can't stop Ben Simmons on that plane. Snip put the Sixers up eighty to seventy nine, but San Antonio would answer with a fifteen to five run. Part of the reason and a big reason why they would jump back ahead by the tune of a lead
of seven points the Sixers. They fought back behind Joel and Bad and tied up at ninety six going into the fourth quarter and things were even in the opening minutes of the final frame. Not a Ben top of the key, Simmons driving down, Rudy Gay down, then a right hand jump hook no good, that by beat is good. He got a round Purtle, got one hand on the ball and flix it in one oh one a piece. Let us zoom ahead to the final three minutes of play.
Marco bell and Elli makes a miraculous but nothing that we haven't seen before, follow a three pointer from the corner to put the Spurs up one twenty to one twelve with two minutes forty eight seconds left. Ben Simmons would help get things started by scoring to make it a six point game. Joel and Bed would follow that up with a block on the Marta Roe was a youngster. Landry Shammons Ben with a Simmons in traffic over the Landry corner. Three Shammont shot is up head good. Henry
Shammon berries a triple. Simmons wheeling and dealing. Take out to the corner. It's a three point game, one twenty one, seventeen to seventy Sixers would get another stop, setting up this decisive sequence back out top Wilson Chandler one ten to go in the game San Antonio by three. Brett Brown is on the court. He's making the play call.
Ben with a JJ screens Simmons the Reddick Reddick right side three bowl for the tie, good head a foul, JJ, Reddick pours and a Simmons with another dish his fifteenth assists eight in a row by the Sixers. JJ just does not stop doing awesome things and man that he'd come up large in that spot, as Tom said, Ben Simmons orchestrating the offense throughout the games. The seventy Sixers get a free throw from Corey Brewer to help him to the final margin of one twenty two to one.
Twenty final notes from the stat sheet. Spurs so efficient offensively shot fifty seven and a half percent from the field, thirteen of twenty seven from outside the arc. The seventy sixers not bad themselves. This was an offensive oriented game. They also the Sixers did made forty seven shots. They took eleven more, shot fifteen and a half percent from the field, seventeen of thirty six from outside the arcs
and that obviously a big story in this one. Seventy Sixers would outscore the Spurs by twelve from outside the arc, helping them every little bit on their way to a two point win. Sixers out rebounded the Spurs by six. The Sixers committed twelve turnovers to the Spurs fifteen, but San Antonio aut scored the Sixers twenty two to fourteen points off turnover six Ers eighteen to two on second chances.
They also had twenty one fast break points did the seventy sixers on the night all right running through the Sixers side of the ledger Joel and Beat thirty three points, nineteen rebounds. Ben Simmons his eighth triple double, second in the league on the season, twenty one points, ten and fifteen assists nineteen for JJ Reddick, he had sixty three pointers.
Wilson Chandler with a key block ONTOMARDA Rosen who is going in for a one foot layup with the Sixers up by one with about six seconds to go, have to mention that and his efforts in tonight's game. Landry Sham at fourteen points, t Jim McConnell with ten points and eight assists. All around collective team effort by the seventy six Ers tonight to get to thirty two and seventeen on the year and improved to twenty one and five on the season at home. I'm not going to
be in this building for a while. The seventy sixers. They got this coming up. Thirty one and fourteen Denver Nuggets Saturday, the twenty five and twenty three, perhaps bolstered by Lebron James's return LA Lakers on Tuesday Thursday, the surging eight straight win thirty three and fourteen Golden State Warriors, and then it all wraps up with the impressively improved twenty four and twenty four Sacramento Kings next Saturday night.
Up first, as I said, it's the Denver Nuggets. That game is on Saturday, and let us see if we can pull up the game time for you on that one.
