This is the Summer Sixers mini series in the seventy Sixers podcast network. I'm Matt Murphy and on this episode, I catch up with second year Sixers Tyrese, Maxie and Paul Read. All right, let's get started. We are recording this between Summer League games one and two. What's the experience like for you guys, now that you've had a little bit more time to reflect back on the first game, Let's go to Paul first, and then Tyrese on the

Summer League experience. It's been great, you know, meeting new people again, chance to share the court with the great Tyrese, Maxie and Isaiah Joe. You know, it's been It's been a great experience. You know, it's just as working on our chemistry right day together. It's great. And Tyrese, Paul shouted you out during his media available after the first game, or was it vice versa who shouted out who first? I forget who went first? He went first? And then

you didn't return the favor. Well, technically they didn't say anything about it. But it's okay. I'm about to get him right now. Don't worry about it. Go ahead, I'll give you the floor talk about Paul so um like he just like Paul was saying, like he's just great to you know, finally get out the mud and no, no, no, but seriously, it's been great. You know, the energy has been amazing. M Yeah, I mean, Paul has been great. His energy is always high, and he's always trying to learn.

Everybody here is just trying to learn, and we're just trying to make the best of the situation. I was trying to make this Paul's first interview in a long time where we don't talk about out the Mud, but you brought it up right away, so we're cool. On the most recent episode of this show, Isaiah Joe told our Lauren Rosen about a group chat. So what type of text are you guys? Plus Isaiah, if you group him in when you're texting each other, who's who's the

most active, who's the one that's sending the funny videos? Tyrese, you can lead us off and then we'll see if

Paul has anything else to add. Well. During the year, we were all rookie, so I kind of, I mean, we kind of just created a group chat just in case, you know, we had to do some type of rookie duties or uh, you know, at the beginning of the year, we were all freaked out because we had to go get Chick fil A and Popeyees, so we had to coordinate who was getting what, who's you know, trying not to mess up the order, and it just kind of went from there. I mean I remember what we were

not to eat just us. What was the Indiana? Yeah, in Indiana, I texted and I was like, man, let's you know, let's go do something just the rooks. You know, well, if every time we're good to either do something, it's always with the vets and something like that. So it's been great. So nobody's really a bad Texter. Paul uh cup Cup. No boy will be kind of slow texting some time. I'm gonna keep you the book. Tyrese Maxe. Sometimes he'll probably like na see nae, not see your boy.

Text in terms. It's all good though, sometimes like that and probably big time because he MVP, so he just don't respond. You look at it reading just going by his business league g league MVP Paul Reid. But for both of you guys, starting with Tyrese, how does it feel not to be an NBA rookie anymore. Isaiah was saying that it's just gonna be nice not to be

called rooke anymore. I mean, yeah, I already know when we go to training camp, they're probably gonna call us rookie to the first game, they said, So, you know, but it's cool. And it was a great experience first year. You know, we had great vets, extremely good vets, still great vets, and they really just helped us every single day, um get better and better and you know, help us

throughout the season. Speaking of like the food order and stuff like that, Paul, that was the first thing that you said in your end of season interview when they asked you about what you'll remember from your rookie year. So what advice would you give or have you already given to the current rookies about just stepping into different things like that, like rookie duties of delivering team meals and all that. You gotta do it. You got to. You gotta do your rookie duties with pride and passion.

You know it's gonna come back to you. We was blessed. We had great events. They looked out for us a lot, especially me Um, and you know it just came back around, so I was always happy to do stuff on Doc. Rivers called you guys, the both of you the two hardest working young guys that he thinks he's had in his whole coaching career. What does that mean to you? I mean, be gonna give him a championship good I'll say that means like I really appreciate it for that.

I mean, me and Paul was like it was like a race to the gym every single morning, but shooting around practice anything. I mean, days he beat me there, days I'll beat him there. Days we get there at the same time fighting him with basketbare want to get to and I think that just is a test of money. So I work ethic and that we want to give it U Like I've always been saying, the whole obviously one percent better every single day. And h I really

appreciate his work ethic. I mean for someone like myself who works extremely hard, to see someone grinding to be the best they could possibly be, and then for him to go and when um, you know, MVP in the G League and dominate really rookid MVP defense like that, that was just amazing to see, an amazing to watch when you say one percent better, where is that for you? I know you've talked about you both have talked a lot about goals in summer league and in the off season.

But for any listeners out there who haven't heard the areas of focus for you both, where are you looking to improve going into next season? I'm just trying to get better at you know, a little bit better than everything.

Of course, one of my main focuses is the paying attention to details as far as uh, let's say, watching film, knowing different guys Tennessee's on the defensive end, knowing where people people won't like the ball, where people want to be successful in the scoring areas when I'm running the team and just knocking down open shots, creating off to dribble, creating off the balance for my teammates and myself, and

just getting just getting better every single day. Continue to continue to be a spun soaking up different information from whether it's the coaching staff, whether it's our vets, whether it's people like Paul Reid. You know, and he worked streaming hard, so I mean if he tells me something or he has a peon on something, I trying to buy by that I was looking to improving. Was our passing, you know, being my teammates open um or not even

just getting them open, just on them. When let's say I get the offensive rebound passions out, knocking out and open shots, and you know, making the correct reads our offense um that a help the team. And then defensively, you know, being able to guard the perimeter guards and and the bigs. This man like super versatile. So that's

those areas I'm trying to improve. One Summer League question before we get to our final couple with this team, Paul, you said the goal is a championship, and you don't think this Summer League team should should lose any of these games. Obviously it's only a handful of games. But what makes this such a good group? I've made this such a good group. It's a it's a combination of things. First of all, we have a great coach of stuff,

coaches stuff that's on. Then we have great players. You know, every day we kind of practice and we work hard as we can for everybody, the whole team. And we have some guys that are familiar with each other, me Tires, took Asai. You know, we played together, so we have that chemistry, and I think I would take us far and the Summer League the guys that were in the G League. So back to you, Paul, coming up one game short. It's kind of a similar setting to Summer League.

Is that driving you in some of your Delaware Bluecoats teammates to get that championship here in Summer League because you're playing against a lot of the same players as well. Yeah, it is, but it's like a different Summer League. It's a different vibe for sure, but it's definitely like driving us to get championship. You know, came up short last time, so right. Obviously, the G League was a bubble season

with fifteen games, so not the same. But let's talk about you both being dog owners and Paul more recently, I think I don't know how long you've had your dog, Tyrese, but you seem like proud dog owners. So how's that going for you, Paul? What kind of puppy is it? For those who don't know, I got a pit bull mixed with the boxes. How's it going. It's going great, man, it's going great. I'm really sad right now. I can't he's not here right now with me. In Vegas. Uh,

you got somebody watching them. They're not feeding him enough. You're looking really skinny. I'm really like, I'm worried. But you know, I thank you here. He's gonna be all right, so you know it's cool. Yeah, you guys will be reunited in no time. And what's your dog like, Tyrese, I have a cane, course of it's a taliant master. Um. My dog right now is in Dallas for my parents. Um, they are baby sitting and I call my dog my son. So uh, he's great though. You know, he's a great

emotional support. I mean the season, I mean the NBA. It can sometimes be lonely. I mean you travel all the time. Um, you're going home at two o'clock in the morning. Um. Main, God that my uncle lives with me. But other than that, you know, my dog keeps me. You know, it keeps me happy. The dog's gonna show. It doesn't show fair. I mean, it shows you love

every single time. It doesn't matter what the situation is, whether you play good, whether you play terrible, where you play great, whether you you know Harry high Low, it doesn't matter. The dog is always going to be there for you. And I really appreciate my dog. That's good stuff. The final question, it's going to be the same for

both of you guys, starting with Tyrese. Is there anything that you want these Philadelphia fans to know about you that's maybe not talked about as much or really at all about you as a player or as a person or anything. I think one thing I would say is, um, while I'm while I'm out in the seat of Philadelphia, I always try to try to sign whatever and speak and say hello at all times because you know, I

really appreciate the fans. I mean, the fans have been amazing towards Uh I, probably both of us in the entire team, and it's just it's just really been a dream coming true playing see like Philadelphia where they have dreams of aspiration of championship and um, you know, very competitive. You know that just drives me to you know, try to be successful at another level. Anything you want the fans to know, Paul, Uh, you know kind of what

Charis said, Uh, just that we appreciate your fans so much. Uh. They come out every game and you know, support us, they want us to win, and you know that's all a player could ask for and fance and like in the social media, the support is really like we see all the support y'all given, and you know, we just y'all appreciate it. So, Paul, we talked a few times in this type of setting and during the G League season we talked about your the growth of your followers.

I think you're up to twenty five thousand Instagram followers. How what did you start at like last year in the G League? Where did I started follow before your rookie year, because I think that's a huge increase out before I got drafted, before you got drafted. I got drafted, I think I was that like four thousand, that's crazy. Twenty thousand. Yeah, but you got all these Tyrese at Kentucky, Big Blue Nations got him, so good stuff, guys. That's all I got for you, Tyrese, Maxie Paul Read, thanks

for the time. Appreciate Thanks again to Tyrese and b Ball. Paul.
