You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy six ers previous game. What started with promise ended in defeat. The seventy Sixers fall again at Capitol One Arena one nineteen to one thirteen, their tenth straight loss in the building dating back to the twenty thirteen fourteen season. How are you? I'm Brian Selzer. Seventy six Ers lose their four game winning streaks, second longest of the season, coming to an end just their

second loss in their last ten games. Tobias Harris went for a season high thirty three points. Joel Embiid pulled down a season best twenty one rebounds to go with twenty six points for the fifth twenty twenty game of his career. Ben Simons seventeen points, ten rebounds and a bigger parton seventeen points, ten assistant five rebounds. Who will Nato off the bench for eleven points? Those are good numbers, but really the only matter that numbers pertained two in

the end of consequence. In addition to the final score, the seventy Sixers turned the ball over in the game twenty one times, and that led to thirty points for the Washington Wizards off of turnovers costly in defeat for the seventy sixers. Was that statistic as the Sixers now sit at fifteen and seven. Washington improved to seven and thirteen, just their second win in their last seven games. The

second quarter was the difference. The seventy Sixers jumped out to an eleven point lead in tonight's first quarter, but in the second quarter, Davis Burtons, if you follow the seventy Sixers closely, you know he's been a thorn in the side in the past, particularly in his previous stop with the San Antonio Spurs, a really tough cover for

the seventy Sixers tonight. They threw the likes of Ben Simmons, Matise, Thibel, James Ennis, the Third Mike Scott at times at Davis Burton's who was a stretch four slash five man, and he was phenomenal. The seventy Sixers couldn't slow him down in the first half, which he went seven for seven from the field, five for five from three point territory.

That was a huge part of Washington's forty point outbursts in the second quarter, and that eighteen point scoring differential in the second period that was essentially enough to get the Wizards by for the rest of the night. In their one nineteen one thirteen victory over the seventy six Ers. Tom mcguinnis had the call of this one tonight at Capitol One Arena. Tom, do you attribute this to Washington's second quarter the turnovers commended by the seventy sixers or

are the two intertwined? Well, I would say, see all of the above. You hit it right with that differential. And again sometimes games are one like that in a phase of the first half, or who knows, sometimes it comes down to the last two minutes. But certainly the turnovers costs the Sixers because again I mean that's eighteen point difference. They had an eighteen point difference in the second and an eighteen point margin in terms of points

off turnovers. And not only the turnovers that were they're scoring. But that takes for example, down the stretch, the Sixers had an opportunity to score and yet turn it over in traffic, and there goes when you're trying to close the gap from seven to five to three, and you know, get make it a one possession game. But you don't score because you turn it over. That's costly. So yeah, they're definitely intertwined and that was really detrimental to the

Sixers in this game for sure. Seventy Sixers lose by six at Washington by the final count of one nineteen one thirteen. Don't want to harp on it too much time, but it's something that Prett Brown mentioned as well. You know, the fifteen turnovers combined between Ben Simmons with seven and Joel Embiid with eight, that's tough for the Sixers. And yes, these are young stars. The seventy Sixers continue to grow, but there are also two guys who want to take

ownership and responsibility. I'm curious to hear what they'll have to say about it, but that's a tough number for those two now, absolutely, and it's got to get better. I mean, Brett Brown, the coach, just stipulated right there that you're not going to win anything of consequins without getting that thing resolved. Because these games, especially like you know obviously in the playoffs, where you know, it's just every possession is just huge and the smallest little air

can be the difference between winning and losing. That that's just not you know, just putting yourself in too many tough predicaments to be able to come and over overcome that that issue. So there's no doubt about it. That's got to get better. And uh, you know it's tough because those are you know, they use that the phrase

in basketball high usage players. Well, obviously you know both all stars and two really dynamic players for the Sixers and in the NBA, they're gonna be handling the ball a lot, and that's where you know, some of those turnovers, that's where that's come from. Seventy six Ers fall in Washington one, nineteen one thirteen, Maybe time to go back to the beginning of the game for anyone who might have tuned inner listened after Washington swung it in their favor.

I mean, the Sixers really were excellent in that first quarter. They were six of nine from three, They shot over fifty seven percent against a team that was really ravaged by injury in the front court. Did you see maybe the Sixers getting comfortable with jump shots early on in the game, not sticking as much to the interior attack. Where did you see that perhaps catch up to the

Sixers in this one? Well, and I'm not totally certain, but sometimes human nature, you know, creeps in where you're like, all right, we got this. You know, you look at the records, you figure out, you know where this thing's going. And that's just not how it works. Not when a guy like Burtons came in and Coach Brown's point after the game was that they gave him too much airspace and didn't have the sense of urgency to stay with him.

And then and then they did, like and he still was in like James Ennis was draped all over him, followed him everywhere he went, was really in lock and trail off with screens and Burton's was just incredible and hitting from range on the turn and again, as I said, just real quick in terms of the catch and the shot, making six threes in as many tries, eight for eight all told in the second or in the first half. And that became the difference in the game. So that

was tough. I mean, there's no doubt about it. And that's when it shifted. Now Washington starts to get to the confidence going and then oh, by the way, Beale and hot chyamor was solid throughout is Smith. Same thing and again with those turnovers. It just they got the crowd into the game and then just ended up for a recipe that that hurt the Sixers in the end. Alrighty, Tom, We'll talk to you again for a back to back this weekend against the Cleveland Cavaliers and then rematch with

the Toronto Raptors on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Okay, night, Thank you. Seventy Sixers fall at Capital one Arena in Washington, d C. One nineteen one thirteen. The visit for the Sixers at Capital one Arena in Washington, d C. Here's how it sounded, courtesy of the only man in the game with as much enthusiasm every end of the year as Tom Aginnis Harett went. Seventy Sixers got off to a great start tonight. Al Horford was part of it.

Simmons on a drive, put off at the filline, back out the Horford for three up and good time out Wizards. Al Orford knocking it out. He's been really productive, particularly in the opening quarter from three of late. Seventy Sixers hit six three pointers in tonight's first quarter. A couple more came from hul Nato Netto has the ball thirty seconds ago. How will out tomatise dival back to Netto

in the corner? How will for a second trade? It's good a hierarchy paceline three and the Sixers with back to back tripos by Netto now lead by eleven. Sixers lead was thirty three twenty five after twelve minutes of play in the second quarter of the Sixers still doing some things well to maintain control. Here's a drive by to bias let us flam poi post riz binder top by us arras with sixteen and the Sixers by four. And now the ball ish hadn't rolled away by the

late kick bias. Do they still call it raised? That you made the rais of the roof signal? That was a post rise play? Is he dumped? At that point, the seventy Sixers edge was fifty one to forty seven. But from there the Wizards turned things around with a twelve to two run during which the seventy six Ers saw turnovers pile up and Washington take advantage. And also the Wizards just lights out shooting the ball in the

second quarter. They shout over sixty six percent from the field in the second and they hit six three pointers It was Washington that led at the half sixty five fifty five after outs going the seventy Sixers by eighteen in period number two in the third quarter of the seventy Sixers trying to make that comeback climb behind Ben Simmons Harris on the back down, they double up jump pass Hito Ben jam Night. Job well done by Tobias double the low left block. Simmons gets into the lane,

makes himself available, easy pass over the defenders. Simmons with the stuff he's got dead point seven assist and have cut the Sixers deficit to ten eighty two seventy two. The Sixers would still trail by ten going to the fourth ninety one to eighty one. The Sixers late, they had their opportunities well. Embiid was able to get some

stuff done. Joel with a fake to three drives at Prown cuts over what a play by ebad Us seven quarter would move, Oh baby, Joel a bead sidesteps a defender, sidestep to another one pat put today, that's a nine point game, six fifty to go. That one o two ninety three was the score that was part of a ten nothing seventy Sixers run. That closed the gap to one O two ninety seven with about five minutes ago. So at that point it was game on Sixers get

ill afford any empty possessions. Here's Arris for three. He got a triple to buyas with his third trade he's got thirty one five point game one O eight one h three. But the seventy Sixers did have some empty possessions after that. They were complicated in part by turnovers, as the Wizards would ride that big second quarter to an eventional one nineteen one thirteen victory. Seventy Sixers shot over fifty three percent from the field, Washington just forty

five and a half percent. But get this, the Wizards behind a strong offensive rebounding game, they took thirteen more shots and the seventy sixers. They also got to the foul line much more frequently than the Sixers did. Tonight, the Sixers finished with thirteen threes, Washington with eleven. Seventy six Ers eighteen to twenty four from the line, the Wizards were twenty six of thirty two, and again, as I mentioned, the Wizards an advantage in the offensive glass.

They were plus five and the turnover differential was essentially decisive in this one. The Sixers committed twenty one turnovers and that led to the Wizards out scoring them thirty to ten in terms of points off turnovers. The Sixers were also outscored twenty one to nine on second chance points, and again this was on a night when Washington was

so thin up front. They started Moe Wagner, who was the tallest player in the starting lineup at six ten, But the seventy sixers they were outdone on the inside. So the Sixers now they're going to try and regroup after losing this one. Tonight, Tobias Harris scored thirty three points that was the season high, three three pointers, Joel and B twenty six points, twenty one rebounds for his fifth career twenty twenty game and bid though also with

eight turnovers. Ben Simmons seventeen points, ten assists and five boards, but he had seven of the seventy six or twenty one turnovers. That's something the Sixers will look too correct. Who will Nato with eleven points off the bench, He was three for four from outside the arc. Bradley Beale

finished with twenty six points and ten rebounds. Is Smith with nineteen and Rowe Achimura with twenty seven points and seven boards for the Wizards and Davis Burton's huge off the bench twenty five for Washington, seven of thirteen outside the arc. He did not miss from three in the first half. Coming up next. If you're listening on the flagship of the seventy six ers, ninety seventy five to the fanatic, it's in the post with the von Givens, give him a call to at six one zero sixty

three two zero nine is seven to five. Seventy Sixers will have the Cleveland Cavaliers at seven thirty on Saturday before hosting the Toronto Raptors at six o'clock on Sunday. Final time. The final score it was the Wizards one nineteen in the seventy six Ers one thirteen. You've been listening to rewind, look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy Sixers game this season.
