You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, Highlights and analysis from the seventy Sixers, previous game, seventy six Ers power pass these san Antonio Spurs one fifteen to one oh four. Down here at the center. I'm Brian Seltzer Sixers with win number ten on the year. They're third in the row and they remain perfect here
on the home floor. That is a good thing now, six and oh balanced night overall, I thought every time san Antonio tried to make a move on the seventy Sixers, even when they got the lead down to a point in the third quarter, the Sixers they were steady. They ratcheted up their defensive intensity, and then their offense, which was great throughout the night, took over and re established
a lead. All five starters in double figures plus James Entis the third off the bench, Tobias harris Man was he smooth tonight, ten of sixteen from the field, three of five outside the arc, but a lot of hard driving scores on the interior. He was plus eighteen and thirty four minutes, twenty one points, fourteen rebounds for Joel Embiid seventeen points, for fur Con Corkmas filling in in a starting role for a second straight game. Fur Con Man just to think, I know, we've talked about it
a lot. It felt like at the end of last year, this was a guy who was not going to be back here. And yeah, he's still relatively young and growing and working through some things in real time game experience. But we're only a month into the season and to see what fur Con has done, I mean, tonight was a great example of what he can be when he is on and I thought he played well on both ends of the floor relatively speaking, but seventeen points for him four to seven from outside the r great stuff
from fur Con. Ben Simmons' first triple double of the year for a second game in row. He ties the season high with thirteen assists. He also with ten points
and ten rebounds. Al Horford solid all around with eighteen, nine and six, and then as I said, James and is the third off the bench with teen I mean, I feel like, especially these first two games of the homestand between tonight and Wednesday's win over the Knicks, you have guys, you know, you have your starters doing their thing, but without Josh richardson guys from the bench, the typical bench course, stepping up. You know, I put fur Con
in that category. Mike Scott on Wednesday, James that it's the third with three straight games and double figures. And the Sixers they shoot just under fifty two percent for the game. They knocked down ten to twenty six from outside the arc. They crushed the Spurs and the glass fifty one to thirty two. Big turning point was as I said, in the third quarter, Spurs went on a
run of eleven to two. They narrowed the gap to seventy four seventy three, but the Sixers, keyed by their defense, responded with nine straight points to get it back to eighty three seventy three at ten point lead. Joel Embiid, you know, he started the game eight for eight. Sixers led by seven after three, and they were able to do enough to keep the Spurs at Bay tonight. We're open here from seventy six Ers head coach Brett Brown.
In a few moments after a seventy six Ers win one fifteen, one oh four over the Spurs down here at the center, Tom McGinnis rejoins us from down here at the center, and I thought this was a good one time tonight. I know you said at one point, I totally agreed. You know, it's like nothing comes easy for this team, it seems. But whenever the Spurs threatened tonight, you know, the Sixers just seemed to fire up that
defensive intensity a little bit more. And that was a theme throughout the night, some good defense leading to timely offense. And this was one where as cliche as it may sound, everyone pitched him to get the job done. Well stand by, we'll hear from you in a second. But now, courtesy of our pals at NBC Sports Philadelphia, we'll go to Brett Brown. And it started to move in that direction,
but I really never felt comfortable. You know, the run that you're speaking about, I kind of remember it, but I don't think it had the impact that you capitalized and we took off from there. It was a game for the large majority of the game. Has really made a lot of big plays on both that's little floor. How do you feel like his defense is really coming along toward I think I think he's moving completely in
the right in the right direction. We talk lots about um two things just like that maniacal competitive effort, you know, as a team not to bias, and he always brings it. He's an incredibly prideful defensive player. Then it gets down into kind of the the the sophisticated part of defensive game plan, you know, knowing you personnel, what's what are we doing on Demorrow? What are we doing on DeMarcus Patty Mills in the game? Are we going to try
to blitz him? It's it's multi layed from a from a scouting perspective, and so then you combine that effort and that competitive drive which he has with the the intellect of a game plan, and the two collide and produced team defense. And I think that he's doing really well. Um morphing into like a holistic defensive player. He should be inflected. He he did. I was glad that we didn't play him as many minutes as we normally do. Um. I think that I don't even know why I'm saying this.
It felt like that, like I thought that he was steady, Yeah, nice and steady. I agree. Found trouble in that second in our quarter pretty early in the quarter, al and Fan seemed to have stepped up and taken control of the game. Is that what Al's really here for? For those kind of moments, I think, I think, uh, I mean, I'll say, of course, but it's hard to do that. And he did do that. He was our bell ringer tonight, Al,
or if it was our bell ringer tonight. I thought that that he bounced back from some games that like he's he probably doesn't feel like he had some of his best games, and he's to me, he's always had like an amazing kind of presence despite what this stat sheet says, and tonight he maintained like that leadership in toughness and veteran and produced on a stat sheet and you know, we win. So for him, it's a really good night. And yes, like that's what we're hoping when
you go sign out. Horford seventy Sixers top of the San Antonio Spurs one fifteen one O four on Brian Selzer. That was Brett Brown. Courtesy of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Tom, what's tod that to you? Well? I thought the Sixers now again, they maintained a seven point lead after one. Both teams scored thirty points in the second. It was seven at the half. Both teams scored twenty eight in the third, seven and the fourth. San Antonio hung around. There was a lot of times it got down to five.
As you said earlier, it got down to one in the third, and the Sixers responded to the challenge. I mean de Rosen he had it going late in the game. Earlier it was Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge. But Harris played well and his coach was just saying Al Horford had one of his best all the round game for the Sixers in bid to your point early eight for eight. He was very effective and after the Sixers defense was solid.
They shoot fifty two percent from the field of sixers, they make ten threes, and they met the challenge and they kept San Antonio team struggling at Bay. They fourced them into their eighth straight laws and the Sixers remain undefeated at home. Great home victory here tonight for the ball club over the Spurs. Tobias Harris with twenty six points,
six rebounds, four assists. It is amazing time. And you know, the more you file the NBA, you probably get a field for this how long a week can feel like because you come back to last Friday in Oklahoma City and Tobias. You know, he had the performance in double overtime was a loss where you're like, Okay, maybe he's starting to emerge from what was only a two game
stretch that felt like a slump was forever. And here's Tobias and three out of his last four games with over twenty points and there was nothing that he couldn't do on the offensive end tonight. No, you're right, and you know you speak to being the longer year around the NBA. You realize how many games there are in a week. There's fifteen or sixteen games in a month, and over the over time, the law of averages, you know, we'll speak to a guy's performance, in other words, a guy.
You know, if a guy's a fifty percent field goal shooter, in the end, he'll probably end up making half his shots. And that's Harris has proven over the certainly over the last few years that he's a scorer. It was a difficult stretch. I think you're you're talking to a phase that was maybe two or three games where he'd missed twenty three threes, and you're right. Tonight the other night in Cleveland Sunday, he was ten of twelve from the field and tonight he was really good as well, and
I thought the Sixers did a great job. Simmons was really good tonight in many areas with that triple double. Statistically, and again to your point, many guys including Nis, Trey Burke had some nice moments, Matisse had some good second half moments, and Furcon was great tonight as well, where multiple players stepped up. You get six guys in double figures, and again, over the course of a long forty in
an NBA game, you're gonna need that. You're gonna need guys to carry the ball for a while in bead plays what less than twenty eight minutes? You know you got to come back tomorrow gets one of the best teams in the East in Miami, and another great showdown here tomorrow night. Yeah, what are you most looking forward to in that? And this one I feel is kind of like crept up on me. It's like, oh, Jimmy's coming back with the Miami Heat, and the Heat have
been one of the stronger teams. They went it tonight with a record of ten and three, with four consecutive wins. Now and Miami is so impressive. It always has been. It all goes back to pat Riley. I know he's the president of the team, but Spoelstra is basically a direct coaching descendant. They've been so good. Look who they're doing it with. I mean, they got Myers Leonard starting at center. Okay, now again, he's a good, solid player, a great young athlete out of Illinois who played to
Portland Bama. Of bios playing the fourt Kendrick Nunn is right up there with John rant for potentially for Rookie of the Year, and Jimmy Butler's leading them after missing the first two games, he's leading the league and steals at almost three steals game. I mean, it's amazing that. And again there's always teams that step up and surprise, and today this year's Miami, you knew they'd be in the mix. But as for one of the best records in the East, that should be a great game tomorrow.
They're they're a very tough team. They're disciplined there. Like I said, their defense has always been at the core, and the Sixers know this is a big game. Certainly with Butler coming back, should be Hopefully maybe Josh Richardson will be able to go against his old team. He's missed the last two games with that hip flexer tightness injury. And yeah, you know you want to back it up tomorrow. You play back to back home games. You want to continue to play well and stay on top of things
in terms of your record here at home. Should be a great game. All righty, Tom McGinnis, we will see you right back here on Saturday night. Thank you, Branko night. Seventy six Ers over the San Antonio Spurs one fifteen one four, first time ever under Greg Popovich that the Spurs have dropped eight consecutive regular season games. Time you had to get to some of Tom McGinnis's highlight calls.
Seventy Sixers trailed early on four to two. They would trail for just those fifteen seconds of it the entire game. Fur Con Corkmas help to get his club under Simmons ben with a beautiful spin, dribble back out the fur count on the right way, dribbles in the corner. He's gonna launch from there for three and it's good. Corkbos over to Rosa, another time out taken by Popovich and the Spurs. It's a twenty to ten lead by the Sixers. Sixers fiery now all Filmder's two threes, eight to twelve
from the field and eighteen to six spurt. Corkmas had it going on early and helped the seventy sixers throughout the evening. Sixers in front twenty nine twenty two after one quarter of play. James and it's the third. Has been having a great stretch of games for the seventy sixers and that continue tonight as well. Gorford on an innocent, tight space right side pre ball god James Tennis knocks it down and it's from Horford. Al Horford kind of put it over his right hip and edis able to
gather it and score it. And now the Sixers five first half three pointers and they led by ten fifty seven forty seven. That was right after the Spurs were nipping and hanging around on the seventy sixers. Heels Sixers in the locker room with a fifty nine and fifty two lead at the break. Early on in the third, the Spurs came rumbling back. They trimmed their deficit to a point thanks to an eleven to two runs seventy four seventy three. Ben Simmons began to give the sixers
some insurance. Harris knocked it away. He read it perfectly, and now Tobias with a bous to be betting down day. Oh yeah, hey sciss late slab by sevens right run out. Harris keyed to play, and that key to a nine nothing seventy Sixers spurred to give them an eighty seven eighty lead going into the fourth. Again, the Spurs didn't entirely go away, but the seventy sixers never relinquished control.
Batist Stible, benefiting from a runout LaMarcus Aldridge one on one with Ben is a drive by Ordrogen Simmons takes it away. Sixers ball Ben in the late, Fatiue Tibo breaks free and champions Fatiue Tibo puts it in one one ninety one. Just like that, the defense ratcheting up once again in the seventy sixers capitalizing fur Con cork Mas helping polish this one off. Here's a drive by de Rosa swatted by Simmons, picked up by Betty Sixers with the four on one. Simmons to Harris in the late,
he's foul that he stars it. Tobias hairs from Ben Simmons and Simmons is taking over Simmons with that defense. Once again, Harris making the most of it on that scoring opportunity, helping send the seventy Sixers to one fifteen one oh four. Dub Harris with a team best twenty six points, ten of sixteen from the field, three to
five from outside the arc. He was a game high plus eighteen and thirty four minutes of play, twenty one and fourteen for Joel Embiad, eighteen points for Al Horford, seventeen for fur Con Korkmas, who knocked down four to three pointers. Ben Simmons his first triple double of the year with ten ten and thirteen thirteen for James Ennis, the third off the bench. Six Ers shot fifty one, ten of twenty six from outside the arc. They outrebounded
the Spurs by nineteen and committed fifteen turnovers. In tonight's game, Sixers will try to sweep their three game homestand and it'll be quite the test. Tomorrow night, the Miami Heat will be in town. Jimmy Butler helping Miami in a major way against the Chicago Bulls to night. He scored twenty seven points, had four steals and seven assists, He has been the man for Miami, which is now ten and three on the season, and has won four consecutive games,
one final time. The final score it was the seventy six Ers one fifteen and the San Antonio Spurs one oh four. You've been listening to Rewind, look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy six Ers game this season.
