You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. A strong second half from the seventy sixers proves to be the difference at Madison Square Garden one to one ninety five the Sixers winners over the next I'm Brian Seltzer and this is Brett Brown. Certainly helps the square board. And when you have somebody as dominant as Joel embiid Is, you know you post him. We've experienced a lot of doubles.

We've been trying to work on our post basing a lot. I think tonight we reap the benefit of a lot of that effort that the guys have put in. But James, especially at the end of stuff like that, was recognized. You guys have had a lot of close games down the stretch and specifically tonight. Defensively, and with Ben Simmons coming up with some big plays there, what did you think of the defense? I mean, Ben is whatever Ben wants to be. Defensively, you know, we're trying to help

him grow his offensive game. I think he's making strides defensively. It's it's his effort has been exceptional, and he's just so physical and such an athlete that you take those qualities and you go put it into an NBA game and let's let him start guarding some of the best players, and he just shines. As I said, I'll say it again, I think we have to look at him as an All League defensive player. That's my goal for him, and lately he sure has delivered. I thought Noavell came in

and just gave us a balance. I thought his his um presence at the rim was excellent. We've seen it with the G League team before, and I thought he was excellent. Was a different player in the second half, which changed with him offensively. Um, I don't know. I think that he was trying to put his thumb front on the game for the most part throughout, but it is true, and I thought he had a pretty solid game throughout the game. Probably the second half was more recognized.

But I think that he just was very rest of trying to play downhill body body ball stuff, physicality stuff. I thought he didn't back off from and we needed all of that from both James and Tobias tonight. Two key figures in the seventy Sixers win one one ninety five over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Throw at Joel embiid in that mix as well. In the seventy Sixers figured out enough to get the job done. They outscored the New York Knicks sixty two to forty

four in the second half. The third quarter was critical the Sixers. They had a really rough first half, shot poorly, the defense at times was not together. But Tobias Harris I thought, really set the tone in the opening minute of play in that second half, comes out makes a driving score at the basket, then quickly knocks down a three pointer after the seventy Sixers got a stop, and

that seemed to get the Sixers on their way. James Ennis the third with some really timely three point shooting in the second half to give the seventy Sixers a shot in the arm. And it's the third with twenty points, his first twenty point game in over two years. Joel Embi throughout getting the foul line. He was thirteen or fifteen from the stripe, seventy Sixers thirty two of forty from the line overall. Compare that to the Knicks performance at the free throw line, where they were a mere

nineteen of thirty three. Tobias Harris finishes with nineteen points. Norvelle Pell, who he heard his name referenced in the postgame press conference in his NBA debut, three points, two rebounds, but really the four block shots for Norvelle Pell, including two in the same defensive stand in possession for the seventy Sixers. He was a key factor and helping change the energy for the Sixers in the second half against

the Knicks. Two matchups at a four in the books against New York this season, Sixers, they really had to fight in each one. They won by five points at the Center back November the twentieth, Just last week, Grinding went out against the New York Knicks tonight at the Garden. But the most important thing is the seventy Sixers. They win for the sixth time in their last seven games and put a good display of might and strength on the floor at the Garden to topple the Knicks. I'm

Brian Seltzer. Tom McGinnis had the call in this one tonight. Tom, When did you start to think the Sixers had control of this game and they were in a good position to make that comeback push well in control wouldn't be exactly how it phased it, but the threes by James Ennis that propelled them right back into the thicket things. I believe it was tied at eighty at one point and then not really until you know, six and seven

in a two possession game in the final minute or so. Really, Ben, that's when you felt like the Sixers were gonna win the game. That's that's what I said. Now, the Sixers are gonna win. That was with seventy seconds ago. But again, you know, to close it out, you just you have to wait and see. But I felt like the third quarter, with Tobias able to get going offensively thirteen points for him in the second half and Ennis making those three threes,

that was crucial for the Sixers. And that's what Brett Brown was saying to the swing swing and that is where Joel passes out of the post, finds a guy on the perimeter on the near side, strong side where he is. Then the ball goes to the top and then it goes all the way to the far side.

So and b doesn't get statistically credit with an assist, but that's the right play and that's if the Sixers can If you can punish that double team, then then you know teams are going to have to start measuring should they double, and then if they don't, then and Ban goes to town on one of their centers. So that that was a key aspect. That's how you play the game. If they're gonna double, you gotta make them pay. You gotta get that odd man advantage, the three on

twos and four on threes, that type of thing. And the Sixers were able to do that with the perimeter with Ennis knocking down those shots. Sixers one on one ninety five winners at the Garden tonight, now two and o on the season against the New York Knicks. Time, did you get the vibe that when Joel subbed in for his second into the night, that's when the Sixers are like, all right, we're really gonna just try and

overpower the Knicks on the inside. Because early on, Joel, like the rest of his teammates, kind of had an up and down start to the game in terms of his shooting. We saw a lot of jump shots, the fadeaways around the elbows, a couple three point attempts, but then it seemed like he scored the final six points of the first quarter, not all on field goals, he

was able to get to the free throw line. And when I saw that, at least for me, I was like, all right, he's clearly a guy that the Knicks don't have an answer for, and hopefully, over time the hope is that that would win out. Yeah. Absolutely, and you go to you got to ride your best player and

continue to go to him. And New York was using Robinson in different players portous and like that, but they don't really have somebody that can man for man match up with him beat And you know, you asked about Joel's performance, and you know, help me out here. But the last time Al Horford, it's only the second time that I can think of, right that Horford has sat out as part of this load management. He came into the season saying that I really haven't done that well.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was maybe the Orlando game where Joel did not play in that next game, And so we don't know what his status is for tomorrow night. But if it holds like the theorem that it has been in the past, I don't know if it's a theorem, but you know what I mean. So maybe he thought I am going all out tonight because he already knows. And again this is speculation on my part that Big Ala will be back in the game and that he will be resting in this back to

back scenario. But he certainly played like that in terms of going all out, and the Sixers needed it for sure, Sixers one on one to ninety five over the New York Knicks. And I will spend this final moment tom as far as this segment goes, just putting the spotlight on a guy who never I don't want to say, seems to want to embrace it. That's probably not the

right way to put it. But you know, James Annis a very mild mannered, mellow guy, but you know when he's out there, and we saw this last year in the playoffs two, like there's like a pop to him, a lightning in the bottle factor. And he was three for four from the outside, only missed one of his five shots overall, twenty points for the seventy six Ers, got to the line for a nine for nine effort from the stripe. He was great, absolutely, and you know,

the game has become in some ways very specialized. So you know what's his strength corner threes and he made a couple on the wing too, and so you know, and you're right, like some of these guys from californiare California cool, but that does not diminish the fact that they're they're ready to go out there and do whatever

it takes to win. And I think that would qualify He's in a spot in his career where he's been around a little bit with Memphis and Miami, with Houston, as you say, hasn't at twenty in two years, and now they don't win this game without him, that's for sure. And his ability to to guard, as Brett Brown was saying post game, he was good on both sides of the ball. And just to go back, Brian, you were talking about him beat and win this and about him beat well, he had a huge defensive play against RJ.

Barrett on a driving play before Barrett started that where he got the ball and crunched situations for them. It was on a driving play prior to that, say, give or take three or four minutes ago. That was an emphatic and really crucial block for the Sixers. And then a little bit later, say six or seven possessions after that, and bad got the ball and completed an and one

basket and for the three point play. And that was huge right there for the Sixers at different times in the late stages of the game, but key components of the Sixers victory and holding off the Knicks tonight, all right, the Sixers get it done, one one ninety five at the garden time. We'll talk to you at the center tomorrow. All right, good night, Brian. Thanks. Seventy sixers get thirty one points from their bench. A huge reason why the twenty points that came from James Ennis the third He

was awesome. Joel Embiid overpowering, helping the seventy Sixers overmatch the Knicks in the second half. Joe with twenty seven points seventeen rebounds, both those numbers game high totals nineteen four. Tobias Harris, who came out of the locker room with some real determination about him that appeared to get the Sixers going. Ben Simmons finishes with fifteen points, five rebounds,

eight assists. He also had a huge steal that resulted in a runout dunk to put the seventy Sixers up by seven with just a few moments remaining in regulation that at that point you started to feel better about where the game tonight stood seventy sixers at Madison Square Garden to start a weekend back to back. I'm Brian Seltzer's second match between the seventy sixers and the Knickerbockers. Here's how it sounded, courtesy of the one only Tom McGinnis. The Sixers they get off to a little bit of

a bumpy start. The Knicks came out strong, the Sixers. They were playing catchup early on. It's twenty three to nine sixers. Ball Hell has it three thirty five to go back out to Purk for three of the shot clock buzzer and it's a burkuzzer. Sixers needed that something, anything to keep pace with the Knicks early on. That

made a twenty three to twelve seven. Sixers, though trailed thirty one to eighteen after a quarter, but one encouraging sign was in Bad scored the final six points of the period for the seventy sixers, and he did so not by taking jump shots, which we saw a lot of early on. He was starting to get inside and either score at the rim or get to the free throw line. So more on that as the game continued. As the Sixers battle up hill in the second quarter,

Joel and Bead is back in the game. Sixers go down to Simmons five minutes to go in the second quarter. Ben dribbles into the lane, passes to Joel and a Bead lays it up and end. Now that was a thing of beauty that made the six Ers deposit forty three to thirty five. They trailed by twelve, fifty one thirty nine an intermission. They were down by as many

as sixteen points in that second quarter. All right, third quarter, Tobias Harris, he sets the tone in a huge way, comes out, drives the basket for a score, knocks down a three pointer. Ben Simmons then started to pick it up. Sixers trailed by eight. Here's Tobias hoop, here would help? They all help, right, Here's Tobias into the naight off balance leader front rib and off nope and Joe. He rips it away from Taj Gipson in effects he says touch, give me the rock, baby, and then made it fifty

six to fifty two. James and Is the third coming alive big time in the third quarter, and he got the thing all tied up. Simmons on a drive Portis cuts him off out the birth perk rund An angle of the bluff corner and Ennis, he's open, free ball shot in the here. It's good tie game sixty six all. Ennis was open there prior to the time out, and they drew it up and he got it back and

he knocks it out. And not too long after that, and as the third would help the seventy sixers ride some amentum into the fourth quarter with a seventy to sixty eight lead. He had another three pointer that gave them a five point lead. He had Tobias Harris. I feel like one of the things he's done this year is step up in timely moments more often than not. In tonight that is the case, especially with some tough buckets.

Thible with it to pel and the young guys operating pick and roll to Bias with a Harris pulls up baseline left, tight shot, got it Robinson there, Randall there, and Tobias Harris has been brilliant here in the second half, made it eighty one to seventy seven. R J. Barrett started to come alive a bit for the Knicks. The seventy Sixers had an answer. Eighty seven All Sixers ball half bourt clock already down at twelve. It beat battling

with Robin said. Joel catches on the block back, he draws the file, puts it up and he got the road off the back of the yard. Big one for Joel Embiid. The and one made it ninety eighty seven in favor of the seventy Sixers. Barrett then scored for a second straight possession to cut the Sixers lead down to one. But the Sixers they got a key timely deposit from Tobias Harris to make it ninety four to

eighty nine. After a couple of free throws from Joel Embiid and then Ben Simmons helped put this one away. Ben guards Barrett. Barrett trying to break free out near mid court and Ben back to that. Simmons stole the ball. Benny Simmons in the plane, slap up. The Sixers are gonna beat the next. Barrett couldn't get it. Simmons took the deflected it ran it down at chapter. It wasn't a straight line from there on out, But in the end,

the Sixers did get across the finish line. In their one O one on ninety five win over the New York Knicks, seventy Sixers and the Knicks both shot just a touch over forty three percent from the field, the Sixers with seven three pointers, the Knicks with eight of them. But where the Sixers had two key advantages were these next two areas. The Sixers thirty two to forty from the free throw line, the Knicks nineteen of thirty three.

The Sixers were plus nine on the glass overall, and that was a major, major key for them as they were able to pull this one out tonight, surviving sixteen turnovers in the game. Joel em b twenty seven point seventeen rebounds, three block shots, Tobias Harris with nineteen point six rebounds, fifteen points. For Ben Simmons, he had five boards and eight assists to go along with two steals. James Ennis the third three to four from outside the arc,

nine for nine from the free throw line. He was phenomenal. A game best plus seventeen in twenty one minutes of action. I get it. Sometimes plus minus does tell you the whole story. That is a pretty representative number tonight as far as James, and it's the third's impact in the game. Sixers with the winner now thirteen and six winners of

six out of their last seven. They're going to come home for a game on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers at seven o'clock and try to improve to nine and oh at the center of course, sentimental spirit figures to be strong inside the building tomorrow night. TJ McConnell is

going to be back in the house. He's signed with the Pacers over the offseason, and statistically, TJ having the best year of his career this season if you look at it on a per game average basis, and especially if you look at the per thirty six minute stats, points, rebounds, assists in those three areas in particular, TJ is statistically playing the best basketball of his career. One final time. The final score seventy six Ers one to one New

York Knicks ninety five. You've been listening to rewind look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy six Ers game this season.
