You're listening to rewind, They'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Back him home. In another win for the Philadelphia seventy Sixers to begin this three game homestand one nine Sixers fend off the New York Knicks. Hey doon, I'm Brian Selter down here at this center. Seventy Sixers, down by as much as seventeen points late in the third quarter, manage
to find a way their defense lockdown. I thought Ben Simmons was great in getting his group rolling, and the Sixers then went on a twenty three to five run to take a lead in the fourth quarter. And even though New York managed to keep it close and they hung around and they put up a fight against the Sixers, the Sixers got a nice timely three pointer from Mike Scott to make it ninety three ninety down the stretch and they never look back from there. Sixers improved to
nine and five with the win tonight. They remain perfect at home. They are five and oh on the year. The Sixers one of three teams in the NBA to stay perfect at home. And yeah, Ben Simmons played forty one almost forty two minutes. Tonight finished with eighteen points, season high, thirteen assists, seven rebounds, just one turnover. He was plus ten for the Sixers that was tied for
high among the starters along with Joel Embiid. He was great and getting the Sixers going, giving them a spark when they needed because the Sixers, they were down seventy seven to sixty middle of the third quarter and you're looking around, it's like someone's got to step up, Someone's got to give this team a needed timely boost, and in the case of tonight's game, that was Ben Simmons. Joel Embiid twenty three points, twelve rebounds, five assists, two
block shots. Did have a scary turnover late in the game that Julius Randall was able to pry away, but thanks to some really weird shot selection from Marcus Morris Senior in the closing moments of the game, the seventy Sixers survived, got stops they needed to, and then were able to score on the other end. But for the most part tonight, the Knicks did not have an answer for Joel Embiid, and he was able to get to the free throw line that helped the Sixers. As of late,
the Sixers weren't getting the line frequently. Joel Embiid helped the team do that tonight. He was eight of twelve from the stripe despite going seven of nineteen from the field and one of seven from three. But the one three pointer Joel Embiid did hit got the Sixers right in the good spot in the fourth quarter, so that was nice to see as well. Tobias Harris with fourteen, Al Horford with seven, fur Concork Moss filling in for Josh Richardson tonight in a starting role, only played sixteen
minutes finish with two points. But yeah, let's talk about Mike Scott twelve points all on his four three pointers, four rebounds, and he was a good defensive presence when the Sixers needed him and they were locking down the second half. Eleven points for James and as the third off the bench, Shake Milton six points seven formatistible. And you know who else was important in the seventy six has come back cause that would be Trey Burke who had nine points. He was plus four in fourteen minutes.
Trey Burke came in in the second half, played alongside Ben Simmons, and there seemed to be a pretty good chemistry there. Burke with a big steal to set up an allub lib to Ben Simmons, drove to the basket himself, then came up with another steal. Very good job by Trey Burke in tonight's game in the seventy six ers one oh nine, one o four victory. I'm Brian Seltzer right now. A little bit of Brett Brown postgame courtesy of NBC Sports Philadelphia. We were searching for sure. You know,
It's like we had a hard time guarding them. They were making shots and you know, you're looking down the bench, and we tried you know, Firk, and we tried shake you know, Montis were trying to grow, and we ended up, you know, leaning on Trey Burke as a two somebody that could do some stuff off a live ball. And I thought his intensity changed the pay, the speed, the the energy in the gym, and uh, you know ended up going with Mike Uh probably a little bit more
than all down the stretch. Um played Ben more than I normally would want to to pace him out. But yes, we we were searching for a while. I was speak of Ben lug and looked at speak to tonight, thought the leadership in the hustle, and he's just real emotional out there. He was the bell ringer. And you know, you could have gone a few places and thought there was some candidates that should warrant consideration. But I thought
Ben's intensity, defensive intensity was as good as it's been. Um. I think that him in his leadership, you know, sort of controlling the game and and giving him the freedom to make play calls after free throws as an example, and him doing a great job of being smart of what that looked like. I thought he was outstanding with his his his presence. I really thought he's helped change the whole landscape, especially in the second half. Before the game you talked about your page. I would think you
had to be happy with what you got tonight. They really made some big plays. We searched, you know, to Tom's question, I kept searching trying to find something. I went away. We tried Firk, I went away from him, you know, we tried shake. I went away from him.
I thought James Ennis came in and played well and hit some big shots when we needed and then you know, as I said, you end up going to a point guard and you know, a scoring point guard like like Trey is and treating him like AI, you know, like let him just kind of run off the ball and looping him up and giving him the all and putting him in pick and rolls, and you know, I thought, I thought he was really good. But the iterations to
get to that, we're frustrating. That was a key sequence in tonight's game, and a key roll of the dice by Brett Brownigo with Trey Burke. He, along with Ben Simmons, a big reason why the seventy Sixers found an extra gear lockdown defensively, got things going on the other end, and managed to pull off a win tonight over the next one on nine one o four, despite trailing by as much as seventeen points worth the Sixers, that's how much they were down by. In the third quarter, Sixers
improved to nine and five. They stay unbeaten at home, five and oz down here at the center, and they're going to be here for a minute. Big second half from these seventy Sixers, especially a big answer in the fourth quarter, out scoring the next by ten to overcome a seventeen point deficit in tonight twenty nine one O four win. I'm Brian Seltzer, seventy six ers, now nine and five on the year. Tom mc ginnis, I point too, I'm not sure about you. Maybe I'll steal some thunder.
I point to a Ben Simmons reverse jam, followed by immediately on the next next trip down the floor, Ben Simmons sideline steal that resulted in another Sixers basket and then Trey Burroke helping things Along that point, the intensity of the game seemed to change with the Sixers down fifteen, and from there you got to give the squad credit. They locked down defensively, which then led to more opportunities
in the offensive end. Well, you're point in the right direction, and if I'm not mistaken during that span describing it, I'm like, well, Simmons and then you think you're sif Well, he's actually had a hand and every single basketing assisted on that one at Burke with a cross court skip. And that's Coach's point where he really locked down defensively and helped out and had a like a never say die attitude that helped the Sixers, you know, catapult from
seventeen down. It was seventy seven to sixty and the Sixers outscored them forty nine to whatever it was, twenty something. That courtesy of Mike Nataro, who's driving home right now. Jerry Monzo, of course provides great stats for TV and slides us a nugget every now and then too, But
no doubt about it, Simmons was big. And then I go back to a comment and a question made after the game Tuesday when the Sixers were most recently home and they came from behind, holding Cleveland off the board for the last three and a half plus minutes, and that is somebody said to coach, you know, you feel like you're playing with fire and he said a blowtorch. And that is, you know, with the opposing team taking
these huge leads, it's not a formula for perfection. And you have the Sixers are still five and out a home five and oh at home. But you know you've got to you've gotta play better, and you know they had difficulty guarding at times, and you've got to give it the Knicks credit. And again the Knicks, you know that that was a ball club that you seem like they're they're a little better than one and seven on the road now, but most importantly, the Sixers got a victory.
And again, anytime you'll win and have things to pick up and fix a little bit, it's never a bad thing. And now you come into you know, a team in San Antonio struggling. I can't believe that they're in the bottom of their division. They lost again the night allowing one hundred and thirty eight points down in Washington and then not to get too far ahead, but the game against Miami, so big weekend. Here is the Sixers with these home games and trying to make hay because you
look out and Toronto wins again. Boston's did a big ball game tonight with the Clippers. Milwaukee wins again. I mean, I know it's early, but if the goal coming in was to have the best record in the East, well you got to make it up to do and you can't slip up against a team like New York at home, and the Sixers didn't. Seventy six Ers top of the New York Knicks one o nine to one oh four. Mike Scott Tom I thought for the first month of the season, had a game here and there, but relatively
fitting in blending in playing his role. No real standout performance. I think tonight's game was one where he really put his stamp on it. Yeah, no doubt about it. And boy, he does the threes are his deal. He certainly can add more. He gives toughness and sometimes in tonight's case, a little too much with bang In and Niela Keno. When Joel was shooting that three, Thank goodness that three by and B went in. That was a huge shot. Joel's only three. The Sixers took a seven point lead
with that make. But if that's a second earlier, if he's already knocking into that player at that point, that three comes off the board and it's a different scenario down the stretch. But so that was a mistake. But the three point shooting, I mean, there stands still threes. I mean that one he shot. I made the joke that he stepped off the curb out an FDR park and just nailed it. That was a thirty footer. It's
surprised everybody in the gym, including his own teammates. It's all of a sudden, he just iron the iron and just nails a deep triple. So to have four in a game leading to what was I believe eleven for the Sixers and at one point in the fourth four to the the Sixers four out of eight from three. That's how you win the game, I mean, that's how you
come back. And no, he was great. And you know there's been times where cork Mos has been in there, or maybe even Thyble or different players, but tonight and Ennis was really good again here tonight with double figures eleven, particularly in the first half. But tonight was Mike Scott. He was a sixth man off the bench in this one six Ers over the next one on nine one oh four. Also want to give a little spotlight shout out to Trey Burke. It was interesting the way Brett
Brown used him. But tonight, even going back and revisiting a theme from the preseason when the backup primary secondary ball handling duties were a big area focus would be Trey Burke would be a whole Nato. Brett Brown has been consistent in saying different players for different situations, and this was a spot tonight where it seemed like it lent itself to Trey Burke bringing him in and not
even in a primary ball handling role. Right. And one thing I like about Brett Brown is he's not married to something like he was going with Josh Richardson in that role in the preseason and yet and that's certainly a great option to have, but obviously Josh didn't play tonight.
This was in response to another topic earlier tonight in the pregame press conference, when Coach was asked about the coach's challenge right now he doesn't like it, which he said, you know, look, I hope my mind changed, but right now I don't like it. Point is like with his backup point guard thing, as you say, there's gonna be different opportunities, and tonight Trey Burke, and it wasn't. I believe he only played fourteen minutes. And it's not like
he had twenty points. He had somewhere around nine, I think with those late free throws. But to Coach Brown's point, he changed the dynamic. He was aggressive, he was challenging, he held his own on defense, and that helped the Sixers kind of get over the hump. And he was out there during key stretches. So as I said, when they signed this guy that you know, again he's had
forty points in an NBA game. There's gonna be a time where he has ten or twelve points in a pivotal point in a quarter or in a game, and tonight the numbers don't necessarily speak that he had, you know, like I say, twenty points, but he had a key role in this game. And sometimes you need somebody being aggressive. Sometimes he handles it too much, sometimes he goes too much one on one. But there are elements of his game that can put you over the hump, and I
thought tonight was one of those instances. Alrighty, Tom McGinnis, great call, tonight, would play some highlights in a moment. Talk to you on Friday. All right, good night, Brian, Thank you. Seventy sixers commit a season low ten turnovers in tonight's game and beat the Knicks one O nine, one O four. The aforementioned radio calls from the one
and only Tom McGinnis. Oh wait, the opener of what is up to this point a season high three game homestand for the seventy sixers against the New York Knicks. I'm Brian Seltzer down here at the center, and here's how this one sounded. Courtesy of the one and only Tom McGinnis. Seventy Sixers fell behind early looking to gain ground. This gromatic sequence went down side out, Harris will it bound and here's a shot by Ben. The crowd loves it. A three by Ben Simmons on the catch, the crowd rising.
He had that three of the preseason, but that is his first NBA career three and the crowd loves it. It did happen quickly, but it was real. It was spectacular, a regular season three pointer from two nineteen All star Ben Simmons, and there was no doubt about it. Seventy Sixers and the Knicks very closely engaged early on, the Sixers only up by two after a quarter twenty seven twenty five. Things got more back and forth. In the second period. The Knicks used a fourteen to four run
to take a three point lead. Seventy Sixers had to creep back into it. Simmons with it, makes a move on more spin's baseline, comes back to the pass in tight quarters to shake and Milton scores it. Bilton was kind of following Simmons and they're thinking about the rebound, and the next thing you know, he got it and scored it. The heck of a catch, and now the Sixers down by four. Yeah, shake Milton gave the Sixers a little shot in the arm that made it forty
three to thirty nine. But in the final minutes of the first half, it was the seventy Sixers reclaiming the lead. Ben Simmons with its seventy seconds to go up top to bias three ball bucket, eight straight by the Sixers, and it's fifty three forty nine, one minute to go and the seventy sixers lead, and it would be fifty three fifty one and intermission. In the third quarter, that's when things got really out of hand the Knicks. They went on a seventeen nothing run, actually getting back to
their final basket of the first half. The Sixers playing the catchup game. This was James Empson, Ben Simmons on the move to the corner and it's fakes. Now shoots at three and it's n it's knocking down a tray and another dish by Ben Simmons is ninth assists and James and it's the third is second three. It's a five boy game and a ten oh run. Then in the fourth more from Joel and b Sixers steal the ball. Simmons mix the steel. Joel has it in the lay
cops in Chaptain. Oh yeah, tied at eighty two. Joel and Be two hands slam time out of New York. Ben Simmons acrossmitcourt going five on four the Scott for three. It's good? Are you Kenny Be? Bike Scott with a pull up tray ninety nine ninety five. Here is the Sixers the chance to win the game. Fifty five seconds to go to bias to Joel it bad for three. It's top ed a dagger from the top Joel a bed.
Seventy six Ers a strong comeback in the second half, and they ultimately knock off the Knicks one on nine, one O four to improve to nine and five on the season. And five and oh down here at the center twenty three from him, B twelve on the glass for him, five assists as well eighteen points, thirteen assists and seven boards for Ben Simmons. Up next for the Sixers, they have the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. In a clock we will hit the air with our pregame coverage
at that point in time. One final time. The final scores seventy six Ers one on nine, the Knicks one oh four you've been listening to Rewind. Look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy sixers game this season.
