You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Another tough one for the seventy Sixers tonight, they lose at American Airlines Arena to the Miami Heat. One thirty seven, one oh six. I'm Brian Seltzer. Seventy Sixers done in by Jimmy Butler. An explosive forty one point third quarter by the Miami Heat. Butler went for a season best thirty eight points. He made all but six of his

twenty shot attempts. He knocked down both of his three pointers, got to the line eight times, made all of his free throws there also brought in seven rebounds and had three steals for Miami and posting their third win of the year against the Sixers. Bam Autobio, like Jimmy Butler, and All Star for the Heat this season, Heat, too was great eighteen points, eleven assists for the big Man, a near triple double with eight rebounds of his own, and then Gran Dragach off the bench with twenty four

huge factors for the Heat tonight. As for the seventy Sixers, they got off to a relatively encouraging start based upon the way Joel and Bead played, and only took him six minutes to matches eleven point total from Saturday's game,

a loss in Boston. But after that, although Joel finished with a team high of twenty nine points and another team high of twelve rebounds, he and the Sixers just could not get in sinc they shot just under forty three percent from the field, thirty four percent from outside the arcading thirteen threes. The Sixers they committed fourteen turnovers

to Miami's three. That's really an amazing number for the Heat to only commit three turnovers, and subsequently the Sixers were outscored twenty two to six in terms of points off turnovers, Miami with fifty points from the bench. As we said, grand drag a big part of that, but just a very solid, well rounded effort by Miami and the seventy Sixers despite hanging relatively close and tough in the first half, they just could not find their way

after the intermission break. And for the seventy Sixers, yes, there's certain numbers that stand out in this game that are alarming. That's kind of like a microcosmic look at this the Sixers just a different team on the road and trying to find themselves as they head towards the All Star Game break. After one thirty seven, one oh six lost to Miami tonight, the Heat, as I said, they win the four game season series against the seventy

Sixers three games to one. They're now four games in front of the Sixers in the standings, Miami improving to thirty four and fifteen while the Sixers dropped to thirty one and twenty. But it's back to back losses against two teams in front of you in ways that just we're really difficult for the team, and of course the Milwaukee Bucks loom. On Thursday, seventy six Ers fall one thirty seven, one oh six against the Miami Heat in

South Florida. We'll join in progress right now. Sixers head coach Brett Brown team in the NBA, and we weren't even close to that tonight. We've talked a lot, I feel like about the defensive intensity on the road. Just what are you see in terms of the factor there and how do you fix it. I think that you look at sort of the three point line, especially in the second half. Um they they got away from us.

I didn't feel we responded well at all to that. Uh. You give credit to Jimmy Butler, like he had a big game scoring wise. I thought he was, you know, scoring in a bunch of ways really hard to guard. But I think just the sting to our defense, uh was really disappointing. Right. You said the spirit of the group is always in a plus. Um, why is that not translating on the court. Yeah, and it really didn't tonight in obvious ways. Um, I don't know. You know. What I do know is that for me, it's it's

reflective of defense. I think that that when you sort of like with the guys of practice and shoot around like their eyes are why they're good, they're really good to see it not have carry over to your point on the court, Uh lately, you know, it's it's obviously a concern and um, you know, I think to look further for me then, like you know why I go to defense first. I think that we had some of us daughter as you know, struggle tonight. But I thought

a defense was poor in the connection. I think to like the spirit of the group, the the the attitude of the group doesn't point to what ended up happening in the game, which normally isn't the case. You sense a level of frustration maybe with the offense seeping into the defense or is that I don't. I think this might be a little bit but but no, I don't. I don't circle back to that. I don't. I think that's a weak excuse. You know, I really, I really do.

I think that you know, the defense the way that we play it, you know, we judge deflections, we judge you know, sort of activity. We didn't have it tonight. It was similar to what they experienced in Game one. You know, sometimes you go through a game like that. The thing that I don't like is we just, you know, left a Boston game that you you felt like you needed a little bit more bite and we just didn't

have it tonight. Seventy six Ers drop a one thirty seven, one h six decision on the road in Miami heat. The team is now owned three on this trip. They'll have two days without a game and then had two Milwaukee for a primetime showdown on Thursday. Tom McGinnis had the call in South Florida tonight. He joins us now to Jimmy Butler, certainly had it going on for the heat. Oh he did, you know, And again some of the times they played off him because he's mostly a driver,

and he hit open shots. I think he hit a couple threes, and he certainly had some open twos. And then again, you know what you've always noticed and liked about Butler's game. As he drives, and he drives, he's probing, he's probing, and next thing you know, he's three feet from the goal and he's laying it up and over your defender and in and oh, by the way, if you start to guard him a little closer, he's able to move that ball and get somebody else a good look.

So he was really good, maybe one of the best Timand this guy had fifty six points against the Sixers in the gamer fifty four at the Center a few years ago with the Bulls. So I don't know that it was the best ever game I've seen him play, but this was certainly a really solid performance overall from Butler. Very efficient. He's at the peak of his game, there's no doubt about it. And you know, he played well for the Sixers last year. But I believe this is

the best we've seen him play. It's it's just one of those veteran players that he's taken this the know how and the basketball IQ and you know, obviously he's a hard worker, and you know, so he's in peak physical condition and he's playing with a young group here. That's that's really on a roll right now for Miami, and he was without question the best player in the

game out there tonight. Butler with the season best thirty eight points, seven rebounds, fourteen of twenty from the field, two of two from outside the arc, ground Drockets with twenty four points for the Miami Heat. The seventy sixers were led by Joel Embiid, who had twenty nine and twelve. Ben Simmons Tom's sixteen points, eight rebounds, seven assists. But you know, we should certainly highlight that he went eight for nine from the free throw line. But Miami defensively

really played him tough. He was even at times able to get in the lane, but once he got close to the rim, it was like Miami had enough bodies there to force to pass back out to somewhere else. Absolutely, and then a couple of times Ben took layups that weren't all the way to the rim, and those are so difficult, especially with speed, and they just did a great job. And then they got Robinson into the game offensively.

And you know, Druggage is so good. I mean, he'd probably be a starter on half the teams in this league. And one of the things he does, he's so shifty with the dribble. Not the fastest player, but really good at that middle pick and roll where you know, for the slightest moment, And this happened a bunch of times. If Brett Brown's talking about the sting of his defense,

part of it was they weren't staying connected. In other words, the guy who was guarding the ball hand there and I'm talking about Droggage, they weren't getting back to him, and he was that slight opening. He's nailing a three and I thought I had a bio had a huge

impact in the team. I mean a double double with assists, and again he's bringing the ball up and it's almost a little bit like sim Is where teams play so far off of Ben and they think that you know, obviously they don't think he's a threat from the perimeter, and same from at a bio. But then he's got all this open space and he's able to create off that.

I mean at a Bio brought the ball up any number of times and that wasn't an accident because Joel's running back into the lane and so at a bio he's just got moved and you know, freedom to pass that ball and get them into some actions. And they

just dominated this game. This is a shocker to me, is that how poorly the Sixers played here in Miami and now you have only the Milwaukee Bucksloman on Thursday, right right, And then you got to think too, how Milwaukee is going to react after the way the Sixers dominated them in the game on Christmas at the Center. You know they're going to be loaded for bear A, you know, with wanting to come back with a statement

of their own. And then after the All Star break, I believe that's the first road trip again for the Sixers. So you got two games in the next two and a half weeks or so against Milwaukee, and clearly the road has been a real tough thing for the Sixers. And again to give up forty one points in a quarter when it was a four point game, that is that is that is not a defensive team that you know you're not gonna win like that on the road. It's just that was a really tough phase of the

game for the Sixers already. Time we will speak next on Thursday night. Seventy Sixers and the Bucks. All right, thank you, Brian, good night. Sixers lose in Miami by the final score of one thirty seven to one zero six. Jimmy Butler with thirty eight points for the Miami Heat, twenty nine and twelve for Joellen beat tough, tough road trip.

The team is obviously owned three and you would have to presume that the Sixers got the best team in the league's attention on Christmas Day and that Thursday's game at Fiser Forum in Milwaukee will be no walk in the park. But Sixers will have two days idol. They're actually coming back to Philadelphia after the game in Miami tonight. They'll get in the gym for at least one practice on Wednesday before heading to Milwaukee. So the team looking

to get back on track. Of course, reviewing some of the final numbers from tonight, Miami could not miss fifty six and a half percent. They were driving the basket, they were knocking down threes, They were sixteen to thirty

two from outside the arc. They were connecting on mid range elbow jumpers, and they got to the free throw line regularly, where they were twenty five of thirty from the stripe seventy sixers held just under forty three percent, and they went thirteen of thirty eight for thirty four percent from outside the arc. They were twenty one to twenty five from the free throw line, which on balance isn't terrible, but again Miami getting the line a little

bit more. Sixers were plus ten on the glass, but they also certainly missed at a higher rate, which explains

that the defense amazingly. For as good as the defense has been this year, there were obviously the issues in terms of how efficient Miami was tonight, but only fours three turnovers, amazing Miami outscoring the seventy six or twenty two to six in points off turnovers, as we've mentioned a couple of times, thirty eight points for Jimmy Butler, twenty four for drag off the bench, nineteen for Duncan Robinson,

who was four for eight from outside the arc. Bam out of Bio was awesome, eighteen points, eight rebounds, would get this eleven assists, no turnovers. I just saw the stat on line somewhere the Miami Heat. Since nineteen eighty two, the number of games the franchise has had with a player playing center with ten assists or more two from all other centers combined not named Bam out of Baio and out of Bio has had four now. This season, Crazy Sixers were led by dwell Embiid both in points

and rebounds with twenty nine and twelve. Ben Simmons was defended well and effectively tonight, just sixteen points on four for seven shooting, eight rebounds and seven assists, four turnovers, seventeen from Mike Scott five for seven. Unfortunate that the seventy six ers weren't able to capitalize on a night that Mike Scott was in his groove from outside the arc. All right, so you know the scoop. Three straight losses for the seventy sixers. They remain in sixth place in

the East. They're thirty one and twenty. They are currently still a half game behind Indiana for fifth. Indiana loss tonight to the Dallas Mavericks in Texas, but the seventy Sixers with the losses on Saturday and tonight to Boston in Miami are now four games behind the Celtics and

the Heat. The Heat hold the tiebreaker with the seventy Sixers based upon tonight's win, and it's forty two and seven Milwaukee waiting on Thursday nights you've been listening to Rewind, look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy Sixers game this season.
