You're listening to rewind. They'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Behind an outstanding performance from Joel Embiide, highlighted by a season best thirty nine points and sixteen rebounds, the seventy sixers beat the Brooklyn Nets one twelve, one oh four to start their home stretch after the All Star Game break with a win. I'm Brian Seltzer. I'll be joined by Devon Gibbons and Tom McGinnis in a few moments. Right now,
let's listen in on Brett Brown postgame. So you tried Jay Rich. You know at the start, Jay struggled a little bit. I came in with you know how obviously started, but Jay Rich is the backup. Then we came in with shake. You know, we're searching a little bit at that position, and Ben's absence put us in that environment. And I think in general, you know, the flow of the game was a little bit erratic at the start, and Alec certainly came in and did what we we
we scouted him to do. Now they play really small, but obviously as a rough game for al they have any concern about him against the smaller matchups on US. I mean when when it's small small, Because what I look at at the end of the game is how much did Al and Joel play together? Like you get, you know, Joel's in, Joel comes out, here, comes out you you get that. But the portion of the game where you can say it's Al hoof and and Joel together, you know that that's a that's an interesting number to
always study. And tonight, you know they went small small, I mean Wilson Chandler out of five, you know, and it just didn't It didn't play out that way. And I think, like when you go to Milwaukee, things will change. But it was a small ball game. And it's true, you know, we we went with Joe more than Al for the reasons that I just said, what works in the third quarter that didn't during night wrong. I mean, I thought we did a good job in the second half of not turning the ball over. I thought we
played with a great greater pace. You feel the pain, like we didn't shoot threes, not the quantity or the percentage that we need to. You know, I think you can point at Ben simmons absence as a big reason for that. He really does a great job a quarterback in the gym, collapsing the defense. I mean, I'll go back and look at it, but I feel like, you know, we came out of the we came out of the time halftime. Two things reminded of how we that drought
that we just spoke about there. But we clawed back, and I thought the last few minutes of the second period gave us a little bit of life. And as I mentioned to the group, it really wasn't like an X and O thing to me. It was, you know, let's rekindle our a spirit. Let's get that going first. And I feel like the turnovers in a spirit just
playing with that type of intensity changed the game. Good night for the seventy six Ers down here at the Center, going back to before the All Star Game break, their fourth straight victory and now the seventy Sixers just a half game behind the Miami Heat for fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. That's because the Sixers one tonight one twelve one oh four overtime against the Brooklyn Nets.
The Sixers improved to thirty five and twenty one thirty nine points, sixteen boards, two steals, two block shots, behind an eighteen from nineteen performance from the free throw line in forty one minutes for All Star Joel Embiid. Brett Brown said yesterday after practice he felt like Joel embiad was in a great headspace. That certainly proved to be
the case tonight. A dominant performance by the big Man twenty two from Tobias Harris and Alec Burke's off the bench for nineteen all big parts of the Sixers win. They outscore the Nets nine to one, to ot and shut down Brooklyn as the game went along. We'll bring in Tom McInnis in a moment right now, we're gonna bring in Devon Gibbons. Divine. Good to speak to you, man,
What did you think of tonight's game? Well, I just thought that the All Star and Joel Embiad Selts really stepped up to the plea minus Ben said, the second All Star for the Philadelphia seventy six is just doing what stars do with the thirty nine point sixteen remails. But the thing that releasedood out as you just laid everything out with his stat line of eighteen of nineteen
from the free throw line. Huge there, especially the big ones in the fourth quarter and in overtime ten of twenty certainly a big deal, but sells forty one minutes and six seconds for Joel Embiid And we know about the things in the past where it has come to his load management, if you will, the minute restrictions, but when they needed him most out there on the floor and again minus Al Horford, the question posed to Brett Brown during that presser that we just heard Joel Embiid
was there. He did look fatigue from time to time, but to step up to the free throw line fatigue the way he was in playing the forty one minutes and six seconds and knock those down, impressive performance by him. And be at his second block shot of the night, the one at the buzzer that denied Wilson Chandler and kept the seventy six Ers in the hunt, sending the game to overtime. Back and forth tops turvy game. The Sixers led early on by sixteen and then fell behind
by twenty. Tom McGinnis, you called this one tonight. Would you see things change? Well? I thought the third quarter, you know, as Brett Brown said, they had to get things situated, and you know, not just what they were doing offensively or for that matter, defensively, but just get the intensity back. You know, who's to say what the what the rationale was. But I thought when the Sixers jumped out that had twenty to four lead for a split second, I think human nature crept in. They're like, oh,
this is gonna be easy. They don't have Kyrie, this, that and the other. And then here comes Brooklyn back. And you know, Brooklyn missed a lot of shots, like Leavert, took a lot of shots, and again a high volume. I think he took what twenty five shot twenty nine shots, But boy Ebid was just dominant and at both ends of the floor. And it's just defensively, he's just so key, clogging up the middle the threat for the blocks and
forcing rush shots and difficult attempts. And then I thought, maybe one of the most impressive plays of the game is the time he sat on the ball. He literally made a stop, he fell on the ball and was able to unrest it, as I said at the time,
and get it to Tobias. That was huge. And then you know, again, Brett Brown has all these options in terms of you know, these different players, and tonight it was clearly Alec Burks and Shake Milton who came in and made the difference where they were able to add offense and get them uh, you know, over the hump in terms of all those ties and stuff, even though there weren't that many lead changes in ties, but to break to break through and Burkes had just a huge
second half for the Sixers and Tom that really started, as you said, in the second half in the third quarter specifically for Burks and the addition now that he brings in the ability to put the ball on the floor maybe more than anybody else on the team outside of Ben Simmons, with not only getting to the basket, but also being able to get to a spot as we saw in the fourth quarter pull up and knock down a jump shot key for the Sixers as they
look for that scoring punch off the bench. Absolutely, that one layup he made where you couldn't even conceive, at least from our angle, how he was able to slither through all of those nets defenders and he got a three point play that was that was another huge basket And you're right, and that's the thing, and you know, I just go back a little bit and when we were listening to Doc Rivers here before the game last week.
You know, he was saying, when you get ousted in the playoffs and you go back and you knew the post mortem, it's never your defense, at least, this is what he was saying. It's always you wish you had another ball handler. You wish you had another guy that could create off the dribble. And that's exactly what Elton Brand did and getting Burks and Robins and you got
two guys that can create and score and Burks. You know, to your point, Devon is able to do that, and that's going to be huge because there's so many times, especially in tight taunt defensive games, where you just got to go out and make a play, and to have guys with the ability to do that score it or make a play for somebody else, that's just the paramount importance. Tom mc ginnis, thank you very much, great call tonight. We will talk to you on Saturday from Milwaukee against
the league leading Bucks. Good night, guys, Thank you. Seventy Sixers beat the Brooklyn Nets in overtime one twelve on O four. One more question for you, Divon before we step aside for a moment, you kind of like that this felt I mean, I kind of thought that this felt like a playoff type game. Fans were on their feet down the stretch in the fourth quarter into overtime, they were back and forth. Swing Sixers were able to
stick with it, grind it out. I thought that was kind of like almost symbolic of a way to start this home stretch the final twenty seven games. I agree, maybe a little bit as Tom mentioned, getting off to the big start to twenty the four to start things off. But as NBA teams do, as basketball teams do, Brooklyn made their run to put, you know, close the gap
on the seventy sixes. In the second quarter got a little dull and the fans let everyone know that they were not happy with the performance, but as you said, sticking it out, waiting until things happened in the second half and the Sixes gave them that performance in year absolutely right. It just felt like, at least from back here listening to the broadcast, that this was a playoff
type atmosphere with the fans on top. Joel nbid something that we have talked about what you expect to see knowing that this team is potentially going to be a playoff team, as we think they should. A lot of it is going to run through him, as it should because he is the best player on the team. And when Bevin Simmons is out there, it's a totally different dynamic.
But the bread and butter is Joel Nbid. Now you have this different scoring punch of Alec Burks and it certainly shows why celts this team has the amount of wins that they have at home right now with the twenty six and two home record, the crowd doing their part and helping out the basketball team giving them that
home court advantage. Just a very good win over a team that gives them problems and good to see them step up to the plate having to come back down as much as they were in this game by as much as twenty points to the Brooklyn Nets. A very good win by this team tonight. Great stuff from Divine Gibbons. Let's hear how the games sounded tonight at the center courtesy of the one and only the great Tim McGuinness.
Early on the seventy sixers were rolling in That was doing large part to a large man who was an All Star this year. Again. Here's duel down low against Allen comes into the nearer corner, left hand dribble shot block at twelve seven eleven ago and Beat baseline shoots it on Allen and that's good man, he's on fire. Seventy sixers, they certainly set the tone early on, led by as much as sixteen points at the outset of
tonight's game against the Brooklyn Nets. After a quarter of the seventy sixers led a twenty six to twenty in quarter number two. What happened not many things good for the seventy sixers. They fell behind because Brooklyn went on a run. I believe it was forty four to eight. But you know they found something to get it back to a respectable deficit late in the first half. And who other than Joel and Beat involved in that efforts.
Karris LeVert now four of thirteen. He's got thirteen much needed basket for the Nets even though they lead by thirteen. Here's a beat for three man, he makes it said of the two for one, Choella beat fighters for three from out front. Okay, So the seventy sixers, they were down fifty two forty two after scoring sixteen points in the second quarter at intermission. In the third, Alec Burkes
started to get himself going. He had proved to be an important player for the seventy sixers off the bench tonight, one forty five to go and beat with the bull. We're in the third Sixers down by four. Now Alec Burks with it, a runner in La got it. He's starting to feel the rhythm. Alec Burks now with a bucket. He's got twelve in the game for the Sixers, and he scored nine of his twelve points up to that
point of the game in the third quarter. That made it a four point contest seventy three to sixty nine the seventy Sixers. They were down by one going into the fourth seventy eight seventy seven. A couple of key baskets from fur con Quirk Mas giving the Sixers a boost and they actually led it ninety three ninety one, but then the Nets answered to go back in front one oh one to ninety three. Tobias Harris was doing
a little bit of contributions in the clutch. Nets drift back into a two three es old netto that Alec Burke's former teammates with the Jazz, and they going back to Howel Netto for three rimming off no tap by a bead at ten. Harris was down there as well. That made it one oh one, two ninety seven to
seventy Sixers. Trailed by four, it ultimately would end one oh three one oho three at the end of the fourth quarter thanks to some free throws for the seventy Sixers converted by Alec Burks with a minute and a half ago and Joel Embiid ultimately to force a tie at one oh three apiece. Joel Embid also with a big block underneath the basket on Wilson Chandler to send the game to overtime. Inot the Sixers, you know they
spread the scoring around. There were other people who stepped up to aid the cause, led by Mbiid and Shake. Milton was one of those guys. Here's a golden opportunity two twenty ago. End of the late Shake puts it up pitspens bit drip, oh yeah, Shake, rattling roll Milton makes it a four point game that was preceded by some awesome defense by Milton on the very talented carousel vert from the Brooklyn nets. Alec Burks clinched the game.
Alec Burks has it on the fire sideline. Now Joel screening Burkes behind the pick, Burke with the right head, rubble Burks from the wing shot in the air. It's gone. Alec Burks has done it again. A sensational effort here in overtime and the Sixers take a six point lead, and they would go on to win with the Sixers by eight one twelve to one o four in overtime to improve to thirty five and twenty one, their fourth consecutive victory, their league leading twenty sixth at home, while
the Nets fall to twenty five and twenty nine. The Sixers they tie a season high high watermark. I mean, how about that for some perspective. Fourteen games over five hundred, Sixers led by Joel and b thirty nine points a season best sixteen rebounds for him as well. Joe was ten for twenty from the field, hit his only three point or eighteen of nineteen from the line. He also had two assists, two steals and two block shots plus
two four in forty one minutes. Twenty two points from Tobias Harris, nineteen for Alec Burks off the bench, Sixers held Brooklyn to thirty five percent shooting ten of thirty four from outside the arc for sixteen turnovers, Sixers getting by despite his four made three pointers in tonight's game. Coming up next with the seventy Sixers ESPN ABC Saturday Night prime time headliner event of the weekend eight thirty start Eastern from Fiser Forum in Milwaukee against the league
