You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Tough one for the seventy sixers tonight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where they lose to the Nets by twenty points one o nine to eighty nine. The Nets led by as much as twenty six in the game. No duel embad and it was an issue for the seventy six ers.

You could tell early on that Brooklyn, which with the wind, improved to fourteen and twelve on the year, while the seventy six Ers dropped to twenty and eighth. You could tell Brooklyn was going right at the rim and attacking, led by Spencer Dinwiddie in his twenty four points, Brooklyn was able to power its way through the lane, score on layups opened up other parts of its offense, generally efficient enough to knock down shots when open looks presented

themselves from outside the arc. And the other big thing is Tom mc ginnis was just talking about in the previous segment Brooklyn uncharacteristically when you talk about the way the seventy six ers usually play. But again, no duel embad tonight, Brooklyn was the team that controlled the glass. They were plus thirteen in rebounding overall and more specifically

on the offensive glass plus five. The seventy sixers had some early turnover issues that led to twenty one points that Brooklyn scored off of the seventy six or sixteen turnovers, and also an area that you can't overlook what Brooklyn was able to do on the break. Twenty three to eight was the edge for Brooklyn in fast break points. Tonight,

Ben Simmons led the seventy sixers with twenty points. He had five rebounds and three assists, first time this season that Simmons has reached the twenty point mark in back to back games. Tobias Harris knockdown seventeen. It was good to simply see Al Horford back on the court again for the seventy six ers after missing the last two games. He was five from fifteen from the field, but over six from three, so you know, you can't overlook that.

But perhaps feeling a little bit rusted from the outside was Horford on twos. He was five of nine, so that's a little bit of a different story. He also had nine rebounds and five assists for seventy six Ers, eleven for Josh Richardson, eight four Mike Scott, who filled the vacating spot in the seventy six ers starting lineup left open by Joel Embiid. Tom McGinnis had the call this one tonight, seventy six Ers losing at Brooklyn one

o nine to eighty nine toime. It seemed to really all start from Brooklyn's ability to consistently get inside and control that part of the game, no doubt about it. And Din what he is hard to guard. You know, again, it seems like I say this every night, if not frequently, because it's a staple of NBA offense, and that is the middle pick and roll. And you know it doesn't take a technical basketball X and O genius, but that's

what they do. And they come up with an angled screen from one of their bigs, either Jordan or Jared Allen, and they screen for dinwide and now he's got a big on him, and the big is trying to back up because there could be a guy rolling and so now then what he's got, you're backing up. He's very good at the floater from around the dotted circle, which is give or take a six or eight footer. So many players, including him, have almost perfected that shot. It's

like a running layup. It's a staple of what with the downhill offense if you will. And then oh, by the way, if you don't guard him, he can get all the way to the basket. He was very adept at underhand scoops and that when you break down a team's defense, when you get into the guts of a defense and you get teams scrambling in terms of trying to help, it hurts you. So that on the ball defense is so key. And the Sixers did not have

that first line of defense. And then, oh, by the way, they were missing the back end of that, which is Joel and Bead who has the ability to come out and show defensively and then get back. And again that we put out that stat where you know, the Sixers opponents shoot nearly forty four excuse me, four percent better when he's not on the court, So around forty seven percent for the opposition when it beat's not out there,

and around forty three percent. Brian, I'm not a huge number numbers guy, but when you look at the differential and the whole plethora of stats for teams like tents or points, like rebounds. It's like forty three point two and another team four. There's not a huge gap, it's pretty close, you know, like I guess over the years and again people could break this down with the analytics and whatnot, but four percent difference is a huge difference.

That's my point. Like, statistically, that's a huge variance. So in bad matters, and then they shoot the three and then they space you out so and again they didn't do that that their starters had like seven threes. But it all starts with being able to keep that guy in front of you, and that was an issue for the Sixers. And then what he does that to a lot of teams. He's certainly done it to the Sixers before, and he did it again to night seventy six Ers

losing Brooklyn one o nine to eighty nine. And time during the game it was hard for me to almost not think of, especially when it got a little bit out of hand, like what could this matchup be like? And we talked about this beforehand. When you have both teams at full strength, you get Joel and beat back there for the seventy Sixers and then you throw in perhaps and this won't be likely until twenty twenty twenty one, but Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant for the Brooklyn Nets.

So this is interesting. You had a nightmare and you haven't gone to bed yet something like that. It's it's a scary thought, right that me too. I mean you're looking down there and you're like, so, let me get this straight. That's Kevin Durant visiting with Kyrie Irving and they're not playing. No, it's even when they get LeVert and Kyrie back, you know, so and we're talking about Dinwood. He breaking down your defense. Kyrie. I mean, that's that's the name of his game. I mean, he could wiggle

through ten guys if you had ten out there. So no doubt about it. And again they've done a really good job with style of play. Atkinson's a good coach and the and the way they employ their personnel. But again to your point, you know Joel would be back out there, and this is a tough game the Sixers, you know. I guess if you were to step back and take a general view, you know, we're sort of due for a hit up or whatever, and maybe you know, again,

you can't take any team for granted. But like I said, it shaped up like Brooklyn played last night, day laws, long night, back to back. We're rested, but that's not as a player. You can't think like that. And like I said, it was evident and totally you watched it an observation how Brooklyn they were the aggressor, and they were better from the beginning, better all game long. They swung that ball of momentum in their way, they took it to the Sixers and it showed and they got

the dub as a result. I'm next for the seventy sixers after a you'd have to think Tom welcomed back to back day stretch with out games for the first time. And at least I think two and a half weeks gonna be the Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler presumably Wednesday at the Center. That was a game of the seventies

Sixers absolutely dominated the first time around. What do you remember being the key to the seventy sixers convincing effort in that first match between the two teams, Well, kind of what I just said about Brooklyn, how they you know, the Sixers in that game, that was a shocking result because that was one of those circle games on the calendar, just because you got Butler coming back and Miami been off to such a good start and the Sixers dominated

that game. I can't you know, I have to go I have to go back and look at the tape there, Brian, No, for me, it would be the box score, but you know that that was it total dominance. And again I think Miami had played a game the night before. But yeah, so the Sixers they got to get back to that

and obviously the heat not going away. And you know, like I said, you figured they would be good, but nobody had any idea that Kendrick Nunn would be a top player candidate in there for first team All Rookie and that Duncan Robinson is helping out the way that

he can do it. And I love what Miami's done with Eric Spoelstra because you know, during the pat Riley years and even the residual carryover, they were, you know, grind and pound kind of, they were gut it out half court and obviously with the Big three that you know, they played however they wanted to play. But Spoilster has taken the personnel and now they're you know, a space and pace team and Butler they led Jimmy play pick and roll and whatnot. So they've adapted to their personnel

and they're good. And the other guy who haven't mentioned is bam Ata Bio. You know, Josh Richardson sent out a tweet and they're best friends, you know, all star. Well, bam at a Bio has been very good. He suits that style because he's an agile big In years past they had white side, So that should be a great game. I mean, you know, the Sixers are playing three home games in a row. It's a shame. It sounds like Done won't play for Dallas on Friday. Then you get

the Wizards in there. It's the Davis Burton Show. So you know, undefeated at home and hopefully the Sixers get back going and get back on the winning track with those home games coming up this week. Well put by the one on only Tom against Thank you Tom. All right, good night, Brian. Seventy six Ers drop a one on nine eighty nine decision at Brooklyn tonight. They're five game

winning street coming to an end. But we'll give you some of the top players from the seventy Sixers side regardless, because that is what we do here at the Sixers Raiding Network. No Joel and b tonight he was dealing with an upper respiratory illness. Tobias Harris has been a fantastic ring option for the seventy six Ers as of late, and he put that on display very early in this one. Down two the Sixers racing across with Sivens the Horford downloaded.

Tobias post turns into two defenders and scores in nice shot. Kenny Atkins had taken time out. He just saw something he didn't like. Nice play by the Sixers going in the deposed to Harris. He turns and scores, Harris scoring six to the seventy six Ers first eight points of the night. Howell Nato came in off the bench and he gave the six Ers some excellent minutes at the end of the first quarter, back out the netto one for did he go how Will on the baseline drives

by DeAndre Jordan oh Man double dribble? Noo, he got away with it. Apparently Brooklyn touch at Neo now drives it out scores and how about that Brooklyn thought he double dribbled? They kind of Froze and Howell Netto gets a driving lamb at Netto at five in a row, He's cut the lead down to five. It was part of a stretch in which Nato hit a three pointer, took a charge, and then scored that basket. Really good

stuff from the veteran point guard. Seventy Sixers trailed because of his contributions by just five after one quarter twenty eight twenty three in the second to seventy six Ers saw Brooklyn seized control of Ben Simmons was trying to step up his level of aggressiveness. Here's Batiste to Betty lay up right side, could two man game with Thible and Simmons. And that's the second time in the last five possessions these Sixers have implemented that. Well done by

Batiste Simmons with a bucket. Then now in the game with nine, seventy Sixers trailed by eight, forty nine to forty one. At that juncture, they would be down at the break fifty seven to forty three. In the third quarter. It was nice to see Al Horford doing what he could after the fact the big man missed the last two games. Thible Office screen Thible back to Orford left side baseline jumper. Got it boy. Thivell has been very

effective in the two man game. Picks up his second assist, but he was really passing to Simmons with the regularity in that first half. Orford with the field goal. He's got ten at an eight point game, fifty eight to fifty. But Brooklyn would really continue to open things up through its attack on the interior against the seventy six Josh Richardson this was a nice bucket for him. Sixers needed to fight back and this was one of their last chances to try and keep it close. Paris with a

pull up fifteen footer good good screen by Norvelle. The bias comes off clean. That's called the screen of says, and Josh steals the outlet. Richards It puts it up mistick, but then puts it up in it so back to back. Bill goals. Harris with a pull up jumper. Josh Richardson steals the inbound pass misstep, but scorted seventy six Ers have her would need more of those types of plays and sequences than what they ultimately got. In the end, they followed the Brooklyn nets one o nine to eighty nine.

Brooklyn shot forty five and a half percent seventy six or forty three percent six ers, just five of twenty six from outside the arc. Brooklyn was nine for twenty four sixers out rebanded by thirteen. They were minus five on the offensive glass. Brooklyn with a twenty three to eight advantage on fast break opportunities. Ben Simmons with twenty points, seven of ten from the field to lead the seventy sixers.

He was six of eight from the free throw line, also five rebounds and three assists seventeen four Tobias Harris he had six rebounds and three times and two blocks shots Al Horford in his first game back after missing the last two ten points, nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks. Spencer Dinwoodie led all scores with twenty four, Joe Harris with sixteen, and DeAndre Jordan came off the bench for thirteen points and eleven boards for Brooklyn seventy six ers.

Now twenty and eight on the year, Brooklyn improves to fourteen and twelve. Seventy six ers. Next game will be Wednesday night, back at the Center to host Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat for the second time in a month you've been listening to Rewind. Look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy six ers game this season.
