You're listening to rewind, they'll listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Well, that was certainly less than ideal for the seventy Sixers. Tonight one, sixteen ninety five the final score Sixers go down to Ted Garden in Boston, denied their first regular season series sweep of the Boston Celtics since two thousand and two thousand and one. I'm Brian Seltzer and from

the earliest stages of the game not particularly close. The Sixers yes, got the deficit to eight points at the half fifty nine to fifty one, but Boston behind the likes of Jason Tatum early, especially in the first quarter when he went for eleven of his twenty five points, and Jellen Brown right after the half in the third quarter when he went for eleven of his own in the period in route two, finishing with a game best

thirty two points. No answer was what the seventy Sixers had for the Boston Celtics to night Boston, approving to thirty three and fifteen all, the seventy Sixers dropped to Owen two. On their current four game road trip against some really key Eastern Conference opponents. The Sixers now thirty one and nineteen on the year. The Sixers entered tonight in sixth place in the East, while the Boston Celtics

were in third place. But at this point in time, the Sixers are currently despite winning the four game season series between the teams three games to one, the Sixers notably are four back in the lost column of the Boston Celtics and three full games behind Boston in the Eastern Conference standing. So yes, some ways to go, but it is hard not to think in terms of lasting impressionate tones and terms based on what we saw tonight.

Boston didn't have one of its all stars, and Kemba Walker didn't have a key backup center in Ennis Cantor, who at various points of his career has played Joel Embiide well. But they came out and had total control against the Sixers, outscore them thirty two to nineteen in the first quarter for seven turnovers for the Sixers in

the first period. The Sixers committed seven turnovers against six made field goals in the first Now to their credit, in the second quarter, they came back scored thirty two points showed some signs of life and increased defensive energy. But in the third quarter of the Celtics held the Sixers to sixteen points. It was Boston's defense that was so supercharged. It seemed like they were just exerting so

much more pressure. They were so much more lively at the beginning of the game, coming down with every key reband and the Sixers they missed some quality shots. But you know, I guess you wonder do you let it affect you on the opposite end or does it filter

into opposite parts of your game? Who knows? The Sixers shoot thirty seven percent for the night, seven for thirty three from three point territory, and Boston outscores the Sixers seventeen to six on points off turnovers, and not unrelated, twenty three to ten in terms of fast break points. Jayalen Brown and Jason Tatum, Who I thought, I'm gonna

ask Tom about this. I thought the Sixers did an excellent job on them, the two of those wings the first three meetings of the season, and while that wasn't the sole factor that tipped the scales in the seventy Sixers favor in the first three matchups of the year, it was definitely a big part of it. You just look back those first three games and Tatum and Brown didn't look nearly like the type of players they are on a regular game in game out basis. Well tonight

they shorted Brown again went for thirty two. Jason Tatum went for twenty five. Marcus Smart filling in for Kemba Walker at the starting point guard spot, very efficient sixteen points, four rebounds, four assists. Off the bench, brad Wanamaker out of Roman Catholic fifteen points. That was a season high

for him. Shemy Ojola played pretty aggressive as well, and while the stats won't really show it, for Daniel Tye at center, certainly much smaller and undersized than Joel Embiid, he had a great game working on Joel and bid was held to just eleven points. He was one for eleven from the field, oh for four from three point territory, nine for nine from the free throw line, five rebounds and assist four turnovers, all of which came early on

in the first quarter. Ben Simmons twenty three points, nine rebounds and five assists, thirteen for four con Corkmas ten for Tobias Harris, Shake Milton and the start tonight. He went three for eight from the field, had a couple nice defensive place he had three steals, finished with eleven points in the game. Al Horford nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, one for six from outside the ark. So once again the seventy six Ers, they struggle on the road.

That's a recurring theme. They're nineteen seventeen and away games. And another thing is their three point shooting is extremely different on the road than it is at home. And that boardsself out again tonight we go to TD Garden right now. Tom McGinnis had the call. Tom. It seemed like the Celtics came out with a mindset that was at an extremely different level tonight and that carried them to the first quarter and kind of set the tone

for the rest of the game. Yeah, you could tell the way that Tatum was attacking, the way that Jalen Brown had bounced, and you know, Smart always plays with a swagger and a toughness and a grit, and that was on display. And they just they took it to the Sixers. I mean to me, it's a very disheartening loss for the Sixers. They got handled big time tonight

in Boston. A couple of things on that. I mean, maybe just to dovetail off that it kind of like, I'm not going to say you overlooked the first three games in the season, but this is like that lasting impression factor. It's like che and that just doesn't feel

good to see a game go down like that. No, Like I said, you know, you could say the Sixers won the season series and you know the tiebreaker, but right now it doesn't appear that the teams are gonna be tied, you know, like that's that's all well and good.

And I just again, the Sixers beat them, but two of those games, Boston had played the night before, and tonight they were fresh, and the Sixers were fresh, you know, other than they didn't have Josh Richardson, but they didn't have Kemba Walker, and the Sixers just didn't put up enough fight. And again, the pendulum of momentum swings early on and in these games, and it swung heavily in favor of Boston and they never let up and just

kept pursuing. And they had a number of players who outplayed the Sixers, including as you mentioned, Brad Wanamaker, and so yeah, I mean Tatum was driving. I thought Ben showed fight, Ben showed that he wasn't going to go away,

and he continues to play extremely well. And you know, you had some decent performances at times from firk On in the second there to bias, but to bias, you know, and all had a decent night, but you know you expect more from Harrison Warford and uh, you know, just to you know tonight, like I said, like you said, Brian, after that Atlantic, Hey, the Sixers might win the next

three road games and okay, well not not tonight. So you know what I mean, Like you know that that's the hope coming in, but you gotta do it, you gotta execute, you gotta make it happen. And this was not the night where the Sixers did any of that. Seventy Sixers lose to the Boston Celtics one, sixteen ninety five.

And I don't know how you feel, Tim, but it's just the stark contrast between how the Sixers were able to keep the wings of the Celtics in check Tatum and Brown the first three games and tonight, man, they had their way. Yeah, no doubt about it. I mean it's almost like Brown was proving he should have been an All Star, and Tatum was proving why he is an All Star. You know, I mean, people look these guys, these professional athletes, they look for the little less edge.

You can find one little thing, and if that's that's what motivates them, you know, you almost have to find different. These guys played eighty two regular season games sometimes, you know, fifteen twenty playoff games. You gotta motivate, you gotta self motivate. There's the new Rockney, newt Rockney's not coming through that door. Brown, you know what I mean. And these guys do it. They the slightest little thing. And you know, I don't know, I just that's how they played. Those two players that

were speaking of Brown and Tatum and they're good. Oh, by the way, they're good. And uh again they're ten and oh when they both scored twenty and more, well they had thirty two and twenty five. Well, Tom, no need to belabor this one anymore. Tonight, We're gonna let you off the hook earlier. You can start making whatever efforts are necessary to find your way into Super Bowl fifty four tomorrow when the team is in Miami. Oh,

I wish, but that's a hey, Monday night. I mean, this is another huge one, and this is one where it's like, all right, you're trying to get something on this road trip, but also avoid losing the four game season series to the Miami Heat. Right, you could even at two games apiece, and uh, you know, no, the Sixers, you know, they beat Miami in the first game, and then the second game they should have won, they lost one to eight, one to four. That was when you know,

Miami played a lot of zone defense. So yeah, no, it's it's not going to be easy. Boston just went down there in one, you know, pretty good game the other night. I believe that was Tuesday night. So but those young guys have really done well. It's an incredible Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Hero and of course Bam now in All Star and like Miami just the rebirth is you know, Drogage head thirty two in

their game the other night against Boston. But and Jimmy Butler's playing at a level that he's obviously playing better than he did a year ago. And I would argue two years he's always been a good player, but he's almost been like reinvigorated. So it's in a difficult ball game down there in South Florida on Monday. Already time. We'll speak to you at that point in time. All right, good night. Thanks. The Sixers lose one sixteen to ninety five to Boston Celtics in the four game a regular

season series finale between the long time rivals. Looking over the final box score, seventy Sixers shot just under thirty seven percent from the field. They were seven of thirty three from outside the arc. If you do the quick math, that is just under twenty one and a half percent. Boston shot forty seven and a half percent from the floor, eight of thirty from outside the arc. Boston got to the line forty one times. Speaking to its level of aggressiveness,

they shot seventy eight percent from the stripe. Seventy six Ers made twenty six of thirty one free throws. Sixers did win the rebounding battle by five. However, the seventy sixers, you know, obviously they were missing shots. There were more rebounds to be had. Turnovers were an issue, especially at the outside of the game. The seventy Sixers committed seven

in the first quarter. They only made six baskets in the first quarter, Sixers out scored seventeen to six in points off turnovers in twenty three to ten on the break. Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum or the difference makers. Certainly Tatum. You know Jaylen Brown will have the bigger night. Thirty two points. That was a game high. But it was Jason Tatum in the early going who could do no wrong.

In the first quarter. He scored eleven points in about seven minutes on the way to twenty five for the game. Markus Smart, filling in for the injured Kemba Walker finished with sixteen points, and brad Wanamaker out of Roman Catholic with two dunks in the game and route to fifteen points a season high fourteen for fir Con Quirk Miles off the bench. Tough night for Dwell and Batis won for eleven h for four from three, nine for nine from the free throw line with five rebounds. He finished

eleven points. Tobias Harris had ten, Al Horford with nine, Shake Milton making the start his fourth in row with eleven, and as I said, fur con Cork Miles with fourteen off the bench. Seventy six Ers now thirty one to nineteen. The Boston Celtics improved to thirty three and fifteen, So yes, they're four games in front of the seventy Sixers in the lost column, three games in front in the standings. Sixers will have two more games to go on this

road trip. They're actually gonna come back to Philadelphia after the game in Miami on Monday Night against the thirty three and fifteen Heat. Really important for the seventy Sixers. They trail the Miami Heat by three games and the standings, and they are down two games to one in the regular season series. And the seventy Sixers have the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday before hosting Jamorant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, and a tough back to back. You've been

listening to Rewind. Look out for fresh episodes of the Day after every seventy Sixers game this season.
