You're listening to rewind to listen back on press conferences, highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. Joel Embead was indeed back. The seventy Sixers felt it, and boy the Atlanta Hawks shorted too. Seventy Sixers get a great win at State Farm Arena and Atlanta one oh five one oh three behind dwell embiads thirty six points, thirteen rebounds, five dimes, and three steals, and the Sixers are now the last unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference.
I'm Brian Seltzer, and this I believe is Brett Brown. Um. You know he he started the game so well. We needed to find Nanco because what was the adjustment that you guys made. You were down early in the first half of you were able to kind of get it closer at the custom to halfwards adjustments you make really just trying to do what we said we were going to do better. And it starts with, you know, pick and roll d offense with Trey. It starts with pickup points?
How far up the quote we want to try to impose our will. It starts with what do you want to do? You know, defending like sad out of bounds defense, making it difficult to find stuff easy. We tried to stalk Trey. We tried to, you know, just make his life sort of a war of attrition, if you will. And I give Atlanta credit. I think that Lloyd does a great job with them, and the kids respond to Lloyd, and I give them credit. They played very well. Three
point shooting was a struggle again the night. Was that just missing good looks or was some of the offense not being run the right way? It was probably not many, but there would have been, say a handful you you you wish you could have back, Not so much because they were they were forced threes, just they were probably for me too early in o'clock, and we didn't sort of, you know, test sort of the waters with Joel enough. I think that when you do throw it into Joel,
they do a good job of double teaming him. At that point you're going to have to make threes. But early in the clock there were probably a few you wished you wished you head back. Other than that, I think we took the one shots that the game told us to take. Joe got double pretty heavily out. How do you think he handled that. UM, I think he did a pretty good job. Like his turnovers, I think he ended up with seven M. It would it might not reflect my opinion that I think he did quite well.
I think I think in general, you know, him trying to find people and us trying to space and in places that he knew where resultlets were was decent. It's still a work in progress. UM, But I think by and large, I thought he did a good job of trying to get the ball deep and responded to his double teams better. I wouldn't say it's an A, but it's not a not a C. Seventy sixers start a season three and ozho for the first time since that man. Brett Brown was in his first week as a head coach.
Nice win at State Farm Arena for the seventy six ers one oh five, one h three. Joel embiid thirty six points, thirteen rebounds, five dimes, and three steals in thirty two minutes, twelve of nineteen from the field. He was ten for ten from the free throw line, including a four for four effort from the stripe in the
fourth quarter. He scored eleven of his thirty six points in the fourth and you, of course go straight to the plays that won the game, which were those two free throws with Embiid at the line for the seventy Sixers, putting them in front with five point three seconds to go. The Sixers survive a desperation three point he from Vince
Carter at the buzzer, a really nice play. The Sixers drew up after Atlanta tied the score at one oh three one oh three with seven point four seconds to go, Ben simmons inbounded the ball up top to Al Horford, who then threw it inside to Embad and Embid was fouled by John Collins went to the line where he
was able to put the game away. But such a terrific luxury, not only to have him bead back out there he of course missed Saturday's game with the right ankle sprain, but to have a man of that size, strength, physicality, versatility who's also able to go to the line and hit his free throws ten for ten, huge, vital, pivotal, how everyone to describe it. In the Sixers win tonight, Sixers had to battlesome adversity. They lost Mike Scott early
in the game due to a flagrant two. That man he was ejected from the contest, so they were shorthanded one from that standpoint, and then Shake Milton hyper extended his knee. He had nine points in twelve minutes. He did not return, So the Sixers were a little bit hamstrung from there, so to speak in terms of their depth, but they were able to fight their way through it.
The Sixers on this road trip at Detroit and at Atlanta, they were able to grind ou out wins in the second half, showing some resiliency, and tonight they did it with Joel embiad back in the lineup fourteen points and five rebounds to go with three assists and a bunch of deflections for Josh Richardson, he also had three blocked shots. Ben Simmons finished with thirteen point six rebounds, six assists, and thirteen four Tobias Harris Harris also with five boards
and five dimes. Seventy Sixers went in Atlanta one oh five, one oh three. The two teams entered the night with a pair of wins in their first two games. Now the seventy Sixers are the last undefeated team in the Eastern Conference at three and oh seventy six Ers overcome the Atlanta Hawks one oh five, one oh three. Joel Embid thirty six points thirteen rebounds. His free throws with five point three seconds to go in regulation sealed the game for the seventy sixers. I'm Brian Selzer. Tom McGinnis
was at State Farm Arena tonight. Certainly nice time to have the big man back in the mix, no doubt about it. It just shows what a matchup nightmare he is for the opposition. And you know, Alex Lenz certainly has the size, but he got an early foul difficulty. They don't know that he has the mobility. And then they had a much undersized John Collins on him and they were trying to double him, and just Joel was
just too good. And it's just amazing that Donkey had and some of the plays he makes, you know with his feet that it's just again like it's incredible to see a guy of that size but to have that agility and the side step defenders and still had the finesse and a touch around the basket to score the ball. And then as you say, to go to the line and be so dependable and perfect at the line and in fact, to make two free throws to win the game is a huge advantage for the Sixers one O five,
one or three Sixers win it. A game time in which the Atlanta Hawks they raced out to an early start. Trey Young in particular, had the seventy Sixers on their heels. He scored eleven points in the first I believe it was six to seven minutes of regulation, and then after the Sixers brought m Matis stayble, I kind of thought he threw Young off a little bit, made him more uncomfortable, and from there the Sixers for the most part seemed
to have him under wraps for the rest of the game. Yeah, and Ben in the end did a good job on him too, So I guess you'd have to really almost get a coach's perspective, because I thought it must have
been the defense. But I just thought his mindset change in terms of like I said, he did take those runners where he gets a little bit ahead of the defender and gets to the file line, and again it's like a running fifteen foot lay up a floater and missed some of those, but he was really looking to facilitate more down the stretch when early in the game. He looked unstoppable, like a guy who was averaging thirty
eight plus points per game. And then he you know, he went to the corners a couple of times with lenn and DeAndre Hunter. So yeah, you have to credit the Sixers. And then again point I may where Atlanta scored forty points in the first quarter, and it wasn't just Trey Young, but it was Collins. He opened the game with a wide open three, he had their first five, if I'm not mistaken. But then they only scored thirty eight points in the entire second half. So again, turnovers
were a big thing. I mean, both teams lost a number of opportunities with twenty plus turnovers. But yeah, Young is he's a handful, and I thought he was going to dominate the game nineteen. You know, he was on target for another potentially forty point night, but the Sixers were able to do a good job and swarm a
little a little bit and slow him down. You know, Tom, I don't want to you know, it's three games and perhaps put an unfair amount if you can even call this praise on a young guy like Matisse Staibel, but it's to me, it's so amazing that. It's like these teams maybe they just have to to sense what he's doing defensively first, Like he comes in there immediately and
he causes disruption and have it. Can are you seeing that way a and can you remember the last time you saw someone quite like that just jump into the mix and have that type of impact so quickly. Yeah, no, not necessarily, you know, defensively and not at that age. And then like tonight, you know he was Coach Brown told him shooting. This is what he told the media pregame, so you know, he told the Matistas and that his shoot open threes. Take every open three, and he made
two of them. And now he just gets a lot of he gets his hands on a lot of balls. He's you know, really everything we've talked about since he started playing in the preseason, even in the summer league, and that's what he came build as. And you know that you'll back over the years, Bruce Bowen certainly comes to mind, going way back. You know, like the Bucks had a player from years ago, Andre rob His name escapes me, but the same that that just totally reeks
ha it. Gary Payton was certainly scot They Pippen, some of these guys with you know, some of the best defensive pedigrees you could ever think of. And this batist comes in and he just he's able to do things like that tip ball. He busted up a pick and roll and led to a runout for Ben and you know, it's it's there's so many things to it where he doesn't allow a team to get in their offense, or
he makes a guy take more difficult contested shots. I mean, it's a proven fact that percentages go down with contested shots. Coach Pierce was talking about that from their end, but that holds true at every level. And Thieble just, you know, in multiple ways effects how the Sixers are able to
guard because of his ability. Six Ers over Atlanta one oh five, one h three, dwell and be thirty six and thirteen and now Tom This sets up another intriguing first week matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Center seven o'clock, final game for the seventy sixers before they set out on a four game early early season Western Conference road trip. T Wolves are three and out and they're not playing until Wednesday. Now, they've been really good.
I mean, these two young players in terms of Karl Anthony Towns and Wiggins, and you know, a lot of people have been kind of piling on Wiggins a little bit, and that for him was a big moment. I believe it was last night where he had three threes in a row and he's got all kinds of talent, and Towns, from what you can sense early on, is playing, you know in the MVP conversation with how well he's played.
So Minnesota has not done a lot of things in recent years, but they've all had the Sixers and the Wolves. It's been closed for a little while and it should be an excellent matchup within b. Towns has been in foul difficulty at times against the Sixers, but that should be you know, when your team, the Sixers is this good, there's a lot of marquee matchups because like I said before,
the Sixers are no longer the hunters. They are a little bit, but they're the hunted and that they're expected to be good and so far they have been good. And to come home this is almost like a road game, even it will be in front of the Sixers great crowd that obviously it will be a factor, but just in that they've been on the road and they're coming home late to night and a quick turnaround with that game Wednesday and then and then going right back out.
But markie matchup, it'll be nice. I don't think Covington has played. He was out quite a bit last year with that knee, but it'll be It'll be a good matchup, to be sure, and for the Sixers again to win games. But then they had things to work on and clean up is you know, early in the season is understandable. But they can play a much more efficient game and hopefully they'll get to toward that goal and toward that
end with another win on Wednesday night. Alrighty Tom, thanks so much, all right, but thank you Joel emb doing a ton tonight from a monstrous shimmy inducing, posterizing jam On John Collins to the two free throws at five point three seconds left to put the seventy sixers over the top. He was great, and we'll hear some highlights.
One oh five, one h three Sixers win in Atlanta day stay perfect now three and oh Rolling into Wednesday's game against Minnesota, Joel Embiad was back and he was spectacular. Seventy six Ers down the Atlanta Hawks one oh five, one oh three, perfect on their two game road trip, perfect on the season. I'm Brian Seltzer. Thanks for hanging out late with us. Let us get to some highlights.
Early on, Ben Simmons helping these seventy sixers keep pace with Atlanta, and Beat at the Phi light, holds his pivot, it circles back out. He's going to go one on one with DeAndre Hunter, spins, loses his balance, goes between his legs. Simmons with their verse lamp up and good and Beat may have gotten away with a walk, but he ends up getting the ball to Ben Simmons and Simmons going left the right full of lay up. Yeah. Atlanta got off to a quick start behind Trey Young.
Matt cut the Sixers deficit to two thirteen to eleven, but Young and Atlanta would build the lead as large as thirteen points in the first quarter. They led it by the score of forty to thirty one after one. In the second, the seventy Sixers made some inroads and Joel Embiad really started to get into a rhythm. Richards
team in the lane from Simmons off balance. It ain't no good that in a round and Beat gets it a beat with smaller players a round and put it up an in so Joella Beat coming to live from the Sixers, his fourth field goal, third rebound. He's got ten points scoring the first half as the seventy Sixers trailed sixty five sixty three at the break, and the third quarter things began to tighten up a bit. Al
Horford with a very important insurance generating bucket. Timmons drives on DeAndre Hunter, cut off cross court, skip to al Horford. He'll shoot for three and that's good. So the seventy Sixers get the long wall. Good movement of that basketball with Simmons and Feat actually had a hand in the play, and al Horford gets his first field goal of the game, and that made it seventy three to sixty nine the Sixers. They would trim the margin down to a point going
into the fourth. Joel and Beat tied it up early. Richardson has it to the corner to Bias open threef from there, ribbing off no good. Simmons taps it all the way back out top to Joel It Beat from deep and it's good and three from out front Joella Beat Tights the game at eighty five. Big bucket for the big man, but he was not done. The seventy six was fell behind ninety eight to ninety with about
five minutes ago. That's when the defense really tightened up and Joel Embiid he put together a string of six straight points capped off by this. Joel does have it against Alex led the buckbo and eighth to shoot dribble book baseline spins back middle through a double team puppet in at Joel Embiad has been at a one point game. He went right through that trap, powered through with a right hand shot thirty four point four a beat, and that made it a ninety eight ninety nine game in
favor of Atlanta. The Hawks would get a little bit back on a few free throws to make it one hundred two at ninety nine, but then the seventy sixers took the lead at one o one to one hundred with two minutes to go. They got a few stops and Joel Embiid was doing some things in terms of occupying attention and Tobias Harris was able to show off his physical prowess. Harris on the drive cut off by runs five to shoot. Tobias is gonna have to do it himself. He fakes, he turns, he jumps A that's good,
Tobias Harris. With forty two seconds to go, what's the Sixers up by three, one oh three, one hundred. The Hawks got a free throw from Trey Young with eight point four seconds left to make it one with three one oh one. He then missed his second and John Collins tipped it into tied at one h three. Joel Embiid with free throws with five point three seconds to go, and the seventy Sixers would win after Vince hart Carter missed a desperation heave as time expired. Final notes from
the final stat sheet. Seventy Sixers shoot forty two percent, Atlanta just under forty three percent. Six Ers eleven three pointers compared to nine for Atlanta. Sixers one twenty five of twenty seven from the free throw line. The Hawks were twenty two of thirty two. The Sixers were plus four on the glass thirty six points thirteen rebounds for Joel Ebid to go with five assists and three steals
in thirty two minutes. He was twelve of nineteen from the field, ten of ten from the free throw line, fourteen points for Josh Richardson to go with five rebounds and three assists, thirteen points for Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons apiece, but Toby with a really huge midpost turnaround jumper to give the Sixers that three point lead in
the final minute of play. Ben Simmons also had six or rebounds and six assists, batistible with eight points off the bench, He had four steals and two blocked shots. He now has eight steals through his first three games. He's the first seventy sixer ever since steals were started to be recorded as a stat to post multiple steals in the first three games of his career. Nine for Shake Milton off the bench before he left the game early with a hyper extended knee. John Collins with sixteen
for Atlanta, twenty five for Trey Young. Seventy six Ers win at one oh five one oh three to the last undefeated team in the Eastern Conference at three and oh. They host the also three and oh Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night at seven o'clock. Final game in South Philadelphia four the seventy Sixers before they play four in the road against the Western Conference seventy six Ers one oh five and the Atlanta Hawks one oh three. You've been
