This podcast is part of the seventy Sixers Podcast network Search seventy Sixers podcast wherever you get your pods you're listening to Rewind. They'll listen back on press conferences, Highlights and analysis from the seventy sixers previous game. A tremendous effort down the stretch by Joel and Bead helping the seventy Sixers fend off the pesky Washington Wizards one oh seven to ninety eight. I'm Brian Seltzer's second win in

a row for the seventy Sixers. Ben Simmons unable to finish the game due to an injury to his left knee that occurred late in the third quarter, but Joel Embiid finishing with twenty nine and eleven, herculean effort down the stretch, shake Milton Tobias Harris with some other key contributions, and the seventy Sixers get the victory. Believe we have

Brett Brown at the postgame zoom right now. I think that you know the turnovers in previous years and fourth periods where I think and it gets a little bit swathy. I think he's delivered. I think that he's along with his decisions at a post in general, and I especially see it in punch time playing more than I don't. He has to he has to get credit become an India with the fitness base, and we talked about and I think it is carry over from the work that

he's done from what I've seen so far. Right, thanks coach. All right, next we're going to Jack Brett. That game was very rough. I saw Joel hit the ground at least five or six times. One time, he get hit in the hip, Burke's got up slow one time. Is that of danger against a team like like the Wizards that really have nothing to play for you? Did you see it the way that I was able to say that?

Did you see that it was particularly rough? And might you even think about recommending to Joel don't hit the floor quite as as often as he hit the floor of car five or six times tonight. I'm gonna say something that sounds funny, but I've learned this watching players they hit the floor. He actually knows how to fall.

Tony Parker knew how to fall. Tonny Parker was on in the paint on the floor his whole career when I was with him, And so it sounds like a funny thing to praise somebody on, but he really actually knows how to fall. I think it's important go back to the big picture of what you're asking. For sure, it was a it was a physical game all over the place. They roll out athletes that attract stars. You know, to day here in the bubble. They're the fastest team

in the NBA. They played with that pace. I thought we did a pretty good job. I think you onlyan had nine fast rate points. But there they were physical, and they were running and they would crash the boards. We did a better job, and we'll speaking about out wolf in a moment. We did a better job of rebounding later, We did a better job of moving our

feet and trying to just contain the ball later. At the start, there were so many rim scores, And I think it falls into your bass question of like attacked, physical, aggressive, like they did it on offense, they did it on defense, and they were hard for us to defend to the large majority of the game. All right, Brett, thanks, let's go to Gary Washburn. Um. Then we don't know. I'm sure the club will make some announcement about fends departure

from the court. He left the court soon. But as far as like knowing more than that, I really don't. Um um. Obviously very curious to hear what that news is. Seventy six Ers head coach Brett Brown after today's victory over the Washington Wizards. Seventy Sixers able to get the job done one oh seven ninety eight, but Ben Simmons suffers an injury late in the third quarter. He did not return, and as you just heard Brett Brown say, the team is standing by awaiting to find out more.

Joel Embiid, after Ben Simmons went out with his injury, was outstanding down the stretch in the final let's say thirteen minutes of regulation, Embad scoring the final eighteen of his twenty nine points in today's game. He had tough jumpers, got to the free throw line. When the seventy Sixers needed to boost, Joel Embiid was there to carry the load. Sprinkled within to Bias Harris, Josh Richardson, Shake Milton making some place. There was one sequence in the middle of

the fourth quarter when Shake scored five consecutive points. He also had a potentially at that point in time and ended up being games saving block, chasing down Ish Smith in the open court, making a fantastic chaked down block

to help the seventy Sixers save the game. Another great effort by Shake Milton as he finished with fourteen points, four to seven from the field, three of five from outside the arc, four assists for the second year seventy sixer who's looked really good the last two games after the restart opener last Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, Sixers got ten points off the bench from fur Con Corkmas, nine from Alec Burkes to Bias Harris finished with seventeen.

As I mentioned Shake Milton double figures. Josh Richardson ended the game with fifteen. Ben Simmons played only twenty three minutes. He finished with eight points, six rebounds, and four assists. The big question for the seventy Sixers that's going to loom until we get any sort of resolution is what's the deal with Ben Simmons in the short term in

the long term. But what we know right now Joel Embiide winning a playing at a level capable of carrying his team, and he showed that in the final moments and down the stretch of this one today seventy six Ers now forty one and twenty seven overall this year, and the Washington Wizards on the outside looking in of playoff contention. Inside the bubble, they're now twenty four and forty four. We joined Tom mc ginnis now who called

today's game. Tom. Joel Embiid has been fantastic. Obviously, the subplot here that's on most people's minds, what's going to happen with Ben Simmons. But Joe in his three games, averaging just under thirty three points per game and slightly above thirteen and a half rebounds, he's been terrific. Yeah, he has, and they needed him tonight, certainly. Slogging through that third quarter a little bit, the Wizards took that

five point lead. Brian Joel did not score in the first eleven minutes of that third quarter and then came on and scored seven of the last eight and contributed mightily to that sixteen to one run that's sandwiched the end of the third end of the fourth, and to me, that's the part of the game where the Sixers put the game out of reach and then shake Milton and to Bias stepped up with baskets into a stretch where they all three of them combined for thirty four to

thirty seven points, as we noted earlier, but no doubt they needed him, and you know, quite frankly, you know he should have scored because there were times that is Smith was guarding him, you know, so he was sitting turn around seventeen footers And quite frankly, this was a struggle for the Sixers throughout much of this game. And you hate to say it, but the phrase playing down to the competition, I think comes to the four a little bit. And they pulled away and they gained the victory.

It's their second in a row. And then, as you say, you know, certainly concerned over the condition of Ben Simmons and that he did not return any limped out of the facility following while his eggs that he actually left prior to the game ending. But that certainly castle Paul a little bit over this victory. Seventy Sixers fend off the Wizards one oh seven to ninety eight. Tom one of the themes coming into today's game seventy Sixers defense

in the fourth quarter. You know, that was one of their stronger defensive stretches in certain spots, especially late, the Sixers were able to fend off Washington and close the door there they did, and they only gave up forty seven points at the half. So you're like, what's wrong with the defense? Well, what was concerning was a lot of different players, Troy Brown, Ish Smith, Robinson, Bonga not

known as a driver. They were driving in and getting layups and they're you know, the bulk of the Wizards points at one stage came from the paint and in the end the Sixers were able to tighten it down. And again, Brian, this is a team that's missing you know, two for sure, it's two all stars in terms of Wall and Beal and Burton's who had been one of

their best players. So you know they're playing a bunch of against a young group, say for ish Smith, and you know shut them down defense of who well they should have, and they did enough to hold them off, holding them below one hundred points. But it's got to get a lot better throughout the forty eight and it's got to start Friday against the Orlando Magic. Seventy sixers knock off the Wizards. When I was seven ninety eight,

what do you think of that? Shake? Milton block chasing down is Smith Tom Well, that was great and Shake has length at six five, and no doubt he had been I think a little inspired by Ish getting him at the other end of the court. And Shake ends up with fourteen points. He makes three threes, he has four assists, two rebounds in twenty seven minutes. I mean, that's solid right there. Josh Richardson f fifteen to Bias

had seventeen corkmas ten off the bench. Horford only two points, just five shots but ten rebounds, and Coach Brown saying he was going to go with only nine guys and he did. Netto was the odd man out here, and Alec Burks came off the bench with nine so eleven threes thirty eight percent for the Sixers. They missed nine free throws and shoot forty six percent. I thought Shake played well and so we'll see what happens with Simmons going forward. But yeah, the Sixers have got to find

a way in Orlando. I mean they suffered a big blow themselves with Jonathan Isaac. I mentioned this because it's the next opponent, but they have been playing really well during the restart, so that by no stretch is an easy game against the Magic Friday. Tom mc ginnis, thanks much for the insights and thoughts after the game. We will talk on Friday, all right, Good night, Brian. Seventy Sixers victorious over the Washington Wizards one oh seven or

ninety eight. Sixers got a big finish from Joel Embi, who, as Tom said, scored the final batch of his points eighteen out of his twenty nine in the final thirteen minutes of regulation. The seventy sixers needed that today given what happened with Ben Simmons. He left the game early towards the end of the third quarter. Timetable for his status unknown at this time. We'll just have to stand by and wait for any word that comes from the

team in the days ahead. Seventeen for Tobias Harris, another good game for Shake Milton, who added fourteen, four and two to his line today. Josh Richardson with fifteen fur Concork Miles with ten off the bench defense was able to clamp down the seventy sixers. They really were in quite the tight tussle with Washington for a little bit, but they pulled away when it mattered most, which was down the stretch in the fourth. Seventy sixers mission today was to build on the momentum they created in a

last second on Monday over the Spurs. This afternoon, they had the Washington Wizard's shake Milton with a great play to end the first quarter to make sure the seventy Sixers would stay in front, and that field goes good by Robinson. He's got seven, Sixers lead by three, two seconds to go. Here's shake for three at the end of the first and that's good. So with that the Sixers go up twenty six to twenty Sixers would look

to add that lead in the second quarter. When they got it two double figures Robinson, in his second pro season, first with the Wizards out of Boston College, Simmons steals it ahead to Harris. He's got one man to beat and he gets a scoop lamp up and good at a time, I'll take it by the Wizards. One thing that really helped the seventy sixers Harris made it forty eight thirty seven right there, was that they would build on their lead without Joel Embiad on the court in

the second quarter. They went in a half time with an advantage of fifty four to forty seven in the third quarter. Ben Simmons goes out late with the left knee injury. He did not return to Bias Harris maintained a level of aggression. Joel Embiid, though, things to a new level. Sixers on the move with nine seconds they go in the third quarter leading by one. They could add to it. They're trying to go to a bead. They got a hustle five to go in the third.

They feed Juell here comes to double. He's actually tripled the turns he shot. The scores if bead was seventh straight here in the end of the third quarter, and that was in a span of just seventy five seconds. The Sixers, because of Himbad, had a seventy seven seventy four lead heading into the fourth. There was a big three that Tobias Harris hit to put the seventy Sixers up eight two minutes into the fourth. It felt like a big three because it gave the Sixers some breathing

room against the very pesky Washington Wizards team dwell. Embiad was on fire in the fourth quarter, and he made sure the seventy Sixers didn't lose their advantage. Shake Milton in the mix as well. Sixers can't create a little more space here on the scoreboard with a basket and bead is in the game. Shake with the ball tripped up up enough side by is Schmith, but regains his balance, shoots a fade away and in five in a row by Milton, Milton making in a nine point game ninety

seven to eighty eight. When it came to closing time, Joel Embiid was there to shut the door. They need to add a little cushion here. Shake build up the high screen by Joel. Shake throws it back to a b to beat guarded by Ish, starts to back down, turn seventeen foot fade and it's good. It beat now ten. Field goals twenty five points and this the final basket on what was a great day for the big man.

Ret Brown wants the Sixers to spread the four with ten to shoot twenty five to go, leading by a half, but doesn't. They go to a Bad and Bad picks up his dribble. He goes to Thibalds in the game, back to Joel and it beats. Slams it ball game. Indeed, it was the ball game. Joel Embiad with the very definitive punctuation, sending the seventy six Ers to a one

oh seven ninety eight win. Sixers shot forty six and a half percent for the game, held the Wizards to forty two and a half percent, like the Wizards only scoring twenty four points in the fourth quarter. After the way things went in the fourth the first two games for the Sixers, Sixers with an advantage from outside the arc that definitely held them. They were eleven for twenty nine from three. Washington was just seven of twenty one. The Sixers were minus seven on the glass. They committed

fourteen turnovers. Washington had fifteen in the game. Joel Embiid led all scores. Now, if you look at the box score currently, you would probably see thirty points for Embiid. There has been a discrepancy, as we are told, and beat officially finishing with twenty nine points in the game. Who cares either way, It was pretty darn impressive. He had eleven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two block shots.

Shake Milton with fourteen points. He was three for five from outside the arc, four for seven from the field, two rebounds and four assists. Seventeen points. For Tobias harris On eight of eighteen, shooting six rebounds for him, fifteen for Josh Richardson to go with three assists in the game, ten for Concork Miles off the bench, who knocked down two three pointers. Al Horford big on the defensive boards, he had ten of him. He also had five assists.

He was plus eighteen and nearly thirty minutes with Ben Simmons having to leave early. Al Horfor it's certainly stepping up and helping the seventy sixers on the glass. The Sixers improved to two and one in Orlando. They're now forty one and twenty seven overall. Washington remains winless in Disney World. Their record overall is twenty four and forty four. They're essentially elimited, eliminated from the contention for the eighth

spot in the Eastern Conference. Up next for the seventy six Ers a six thirty game on Friday against the Orlando Magic, the current eighth seed in the East. You've been listening to Rewind, look out for fresh episodes the day after every seventy six Ers game this season.
