Last night's win was something else, one of my favorites in my four seasons with the seventy Sixers. Matt Murphy is ready to talk about it. He's here. You guys are here. If you're thinking about sending a question and you haven't submitted one yet, you can always do it as we go along, but please do it now. Please
take the plunge. We want to hear from you, guys, because that's what we love to do. After Sixers wins, Matt Murphy, good morning, Hello, Lauren Rosen. Great to be back with you and everybody else. What a game, What a Tyrese Maxie performance the Sixers forty four and twenty seven. Now after the seven point win over the first place Miami Heat, incredible atmosphere, incredible closing stretch from Tyrese Maxie in the absence of both Joel Embiid and James Harden,
the six get the job done. The bench stepped up big. We have a lot of different directions to go in
this one, and you brought up the podcast feed. I promise that my quick hitting conversations with Tyrese Maxie and some of his Sixers teammates are dropping soon, and it's very timely at this point because you'll get to hear a little bit more about Tyrese Maxie and just fun facts about him, some lighthearted questions, And one of the questions I had asked him was what was his favorite or most memorable game of the first half of the season,
and he said the Memphis game. Well, last night was the same type of energy in the building as that the win over the Grizzlies, this time a win over an Eastern Conference opponent in the heat and down the stretch. Like I said, Tyrese really just took over the and one, the threes and then the Maxi chance. It was incredible. It was absolutely awesome. It did have the vibes of the Memphis win earlier this season, and it had one
shared hero in Tyrese Maxie. This is the part where we run through the box score and highlight some of our favorite stats from last night's game. As you guys hear who we choose to highlight, please send us your questions, your comments, your thoughts on each of these players as we go along. Hit us in the DMS to do so, or comment on the Sixers original tweet. But Matt, I'm going to go ahead and jump into the box score
and then we can jump into takeaways in questions. So the Sixers beat the Miami Heat, the number one team in the Eastern Conference one thirteen, one oh six. The Sixers were without Joel and Bead due to back soreness, or without James Harden due to left hand string injury recovery, so they knew that they were going to be facing a tall task, and tall task they faced. Tyrese Maxie led the way twenty eight points, five rebounds, four assists.
Let's see shake Milton points, five rebounds, six assists, a steel and a block shake. His twenty points tie a career high mark a season or rather sorry tie a season high his career high thirty nine points against the Los Angeles Clippers a couple seasons ago. Furkon Coorkmas eighteen points, six rebounds, two assists and a steel. I see your furkon Korkmas questions. We are going to get there, of course.
George Niang fifteen points, four rebounds, four assists, Tobias Harris fourteen points, a team high eight rebounds, six assists, and a steel. And then we'll get into some other key contributors as we go along. Worth noting that George Niang and Paul Mailsap stepped into the starting lineup in the absence of Harden and Mbid last night, and the Sixers
quite simply got it done. To give a little bit more color to what Tyrese Maxie was able to do in the fourth quarter alone, Maxi scored thirteen of his twenty eight points. He was five for five from the field in the fourth quarter, two for two from three in seven minutes of fourth quarter play. So, Matt, one more stat actually that I wanted to highlight because we haven't talked about him yet and we will. I see all your messages for Concorkmas. Finished at a game high
plus thirteen. I think that is worth some props as well, Matt. What stands out to you? We have to stay on Tyrese Maxie because those fourth quarter numbers and the shots that you're referencing seven minutes, but to the final two plus minutes of the game, it went from one oh three one oh one to one twelve one oh one because you had the and one, you had the first three on the wing, and then you had the deep one. So what a stretch over just the final two plus
minutes of the game for Tyrese. I am excited to talk about the bench too, because that's probably the second thing that stood out to me was the bench scoring ended up being forty six twenty nine in favor of the Sixers over the Miami bench, which features the likes of Tyler Hero and some other key role players for them.
So the Sixers bench almost outscoring them by twenty and worth noting that George Niang usually is one of the headliners of the Sixers bench and he doesn't count towards that total when he starts, so an extra special night from the bench continue right, and it was certainly led by Shake Milton and Furkon corkmus right before Maxi had the run. At the end, Shake Milton had some big buckets.
Tobias Harris had some big buckets not counted in the Sixers bench total either, like Niang, but Shake Milton finishing with like you said, tying a season high with twenty points was huge, But Maxie was the biggest story. And the offensive end is one thing, But how about the block as well. I know you just sent out the screen grab of the great defensive play that Tyrese had and then afterwards you were able to ask him about having his name chanted, and that's the first time that
I've really noticed it in the arena. It was loud. There were loud Maxi chants echoing throughout the arena down the stretch. It was really cool to hear. And then and then he was said that it's just different, Philly's different, which was fun to hear from Tyrese. Afterward, it was really special the way that the arena sort of embraced Tyrese, not once, not twice, but at least three times in
those final few minutes that I can think of. On those two threes and then on the game winning or game clinching rather block, the crowd immediately started cheering Maxie over and over again. I too have not heard that usually they go with MVP chants, but those traditionally are reserved for one Joel Embid. So really cool to hear the crowd just erupt into Maxi chance. I also have
not heard that. I did ask Tyrese what it felt like to have the crowd erupt in his honor, and in in typical Tyrese Maxie fashion, he sort of wasn't willing to take full credit. However, he did say, man, Philly is different, It's just different. And then he sort of took a breath and pivoted to say that I can't take any of this credit. I'm looking at the stats right here, and guys like Shake and Firk and Paul Millsap who started tonight, I don't think he's played
in the last ten games. Burke hasn't played much. For those guys to stay ready and come in and play thirty one or twenty seven minutes, it's just a testimony to our group. And he went on to say that this is a group that has stayed ready, that has consistently shown what it's able to do. I know we're going to talk about Shake Milton and the way that Shake and Tyrese have supported each other over the last
couple of seasons. But really cool to see Tyrese get a well earned standing ovation and some well earned love from the Philadelphia crowd. But then very on brand, let's say, for Tyrese to then immediately pivot and credit his teammates, who of course played a massive role in the victory. It was just such a pleasure to be a part of, to witness, and then to talk about afterwards. That probably leads us nicely into some of the questions. No doubt. I'll start with Tony who said it was so great
to see wait for it, the Furkish delight. Look, I'm a I'm a sucker for for for a medium a medium bad pun. And I don't say that in any in any way to insult the writer of this pun, because I do them as well. And I absolutely adored that Indra. They say, please talk about fur Coon. I'm so happy to see him show out, even though he hasn't gotten minutes in a while. I'm very proud of him.
I think that's how his teammates felt. There were some really smiley seventy sixers on the bench, one Joel Embade and another Matisse Thyble, just watching the way that Furkon was able to thrive last night. And yes, Furkon has has had tough stretches this season, has found himself on the outside looking in over the last few games. And then to come in and perform the way that he did Matt and to do it early, to strike early in that first quarter and maintain a solid performance throughout.
Furkon again, he played twenty seven minutes last night. He was seven or twelve from the field, He was four for seven from deep. He also had six rebounds, two assists, and the steal among his eighteen points and his team best and game best plus thirteen overall. What did you see from Furkon? I mean, I mean, obviously he sort of looked like the Furkon Korkmas that we saw early in the season and post game it was really nice to see him smile and feel a little bit of
weight lifted off of his shoulders. But also when you think about what this team has to face down the stretch, when Furkon is playing the way he did, and we shouldd Shake to that list as well, they will make a massive impact for this team as they get into the playoffs. So really cool I thought to see Furkhon perform the way that he did. Matt, what did you like? Well,
Shake was getting some tough buckets down the stretch. But you talked about Furkon early and I think that's the biggest thing that you look for with any shooter, especially someone who hasn't been getting their normal minutes, and to see his willingness to shoot and seeing them go down early, that was the biggest thing that I took away because playing not last night, but in most games, playing with
James Harden. That's all anybody is talking about is just catching shoot opportunities, catching shoot opportunities, and you're not gonna make everyone, you're The makes are going to come in stretches. And Furkon was able to knock down a game or a team best four threes and took seven. And I think there were even some people. You could hear some fans I could near me saying shoot it, even when he on some that he passed up. So he's gonna
keep shooting. His confidence is there, and that's what people want to see. They want to see him shoot the ball, and the makes are going to come in stretches, so I think his willingness to shoot, his confidence is going to get higher after a performance like that. But he always kind of has that that willingness and right away when he comes into the game, which was a huge spark. I'm hey, it's Joe Conklin joined me for Conklin's comedy.

Must be twenty one or old game in Cubaboo. Partner Gambler I also was sincerely appreciative of the way that Tyres was hyping up his teammates during that part where he was in a little bit of foul trouble. Picked up those four fouls early, and Doc Rivers talked about the fact that Tyres was sitting on the bench next to him for a lot of that run that was held down by Shake, Milton and firkon Corkmas and Shake Milton and Tyrese Maxie. As we've discussed in the past,
they trained together in the off season. They've had a connection for some time. There's a family connection to Shake's time at SMU. I don't want to spoil anything because I believe that Matt gets into that on some of the seventy six Ers Insiders podcasts that are going to be coming out soon. But that being said, Tyres and
Shake have in the past jockey for minutes. They've directly competed against one another for playing time, but that hasn't stopped them from being friends and challenging one another to be better. And I love that Tyrese was able to talk about watching Shake succeed as a friend and as a fan last night. Matt, I know that you were in there with me in media availability, and I think that that was a really special moment to listen to the way that this team talks about and supports one another.
It seems like every time we do a Twitter space, there's a different relationship or a different support system that we want to shout out on this team, and the Shake Milton, Tyres Maxie support system certainly deserves a little bit of love. Definitely. You could hear the chemistry coming through in their words post game, everybody's words, and oftentimes Maxie talks about how he plays basketball for a living and he's always having fun. Whether he's on the bench
with fouls, he was having fun. I'm sure cheering on Shake Milton. Then it's his time and he's having fun playing with such joy. And I want to throw it to you, Lauren, because It's funny that Gina, right before we started sent us a tweet saying, I'm not sure if either of you have seen ted Lasso, but anytime I describe Maxie to anyone who doesn't know him, I say he's just like the character Danny Rojas because he has this infectious joy and love of the game. So
I can confirm a couple of things. One that both of us have seen the show and enjoy the show, and two that Lauren has been making that comparison send the start of the season, maybe even before that, between Tyrese and Danny Rojas of ted Lasso. I've been saying it for a long time, and I felt tremendously validated.
So Gina, thank you for that tweet. To those of you that listen to Sixers Twitter spaces, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that if you haven't watched ted Lasso yet, you'll love it because the vibes of his post Sixers win Twitter space and the vibes of ted Lasso are not different. If you enjoy Tyrese Maxie, who has referenced ted Lasso in a postgame press conference this season unknowingly, but he still did, and we explained
it to him. If you like Tyrese Maxie, you're gonna like Danny Rojas, a character in ted Lasso, You're gonna like the show ted Lasso. So definitely, if you've listened, if you watched it, if you haven't watched it, if you start watching it, let us know, let us know if you have any other player cops among the squad from ted Lasso and the squad from the Sixers. And I have made that comparison to Tyrese himself. He started watching the show. I'll keep you guys posted on on
how he feels about the comparison as well. It's it's it's the football is life. It's the constant smiling, it's the majestic like the hair flowing in the wind behind him. There are a lot of similarities there, Lauren, we saw it pregame recently. It was a few games ago. You said, you actually just said this to me before, like maybe the third most recent home game, when Tyrese took the floor for warmups, the way that he came running out
on the floor. Yeah, he came bounding out of the tunnel. Again. This is these are the dab days of the season. It is hard for some players, coaches, staff, whoever you are, to get up and get excited for some of these regular season games late in the year. Not for Tyree Snaxi. Tyre Snaxi comes running out of the tunnel and this is not for the group warm up. This is for their individual warmups that happened hours before the game. And he quite literally galloped onto the court with this big smile.
And I remember I leaned over to you, Matt, and I said, that's big Danny Rojas energy right there. So yes, this is this is really coming full circle. Thanks as always to everyone who was in here listening. I know we didn't get to everything, but some of the regulars were here. Winona and Mary were excited about the game as well. I'm excited about the upcoming road games. Also from the Sixers postgame notes last night, how about this. The upcoming meeting against the Lakers marks the second final
between the clubs. In Game one on January twenty seventh, Philadelphia took a one oh five eighty seven win. With a win on Wednesday, Philadelphia would notch its first four game win streak over the Los Angeles Lakers, since they won four straight from January third, nineteen sixty nine through October seventeenth, nineteen sixty nine, and that comes courtesy of Basketball Reference. So a chance to go on a four game win streak against the Los Angeles Lakers coming up
Wednesday could be big time. We are looking forward to it. We will be back with you guys next time with the Sixers win on its Sixers space. As always, you can send us your questions, your comments, your plots between now and then. We love to hear what you guys are seeing and thinking and what you want to hear more about. Thank you guys so much, and let's do this again soon
