I'm d' anthony Melton, and you're listening to the seventy Sixers Insiders podcast. Welcome back to the seventy six Ers Insiders podcast. I'm Lauren Rosen here with Matt Murphy, another duo that you'll hear from shortly, d' anthony Melton and George Nyang. And sometimes usually when we do these types of sit downs, we go one by one. But George and d anthony happened to be ready at the exact same time, and so they sat down at the exact same time, and I challenged them to interview each other.
So I look forward to you guys hearing how well they did. They did actually pretty well, and they used our questions, so that helped. But Matt a duopod coming down the pike. A pair of duos, them and us, they would certainly beat us in two on two. But looking forward to hearing from them, and I did hear the beginning of this conversation where George was like, I'm a podcaster, I'm usually the one asking the questions, so he asked d' anthony to kind of take over the
hosting role, at least towards the start. How did you said, it went well, but like, was there any questions they particularly enjoyed discussing? Listen, they traded off they I think they were impressed by our questions, or they would have asked different ones. But it was cool to see them sort of in their element, letting loose. Hopefully this was we set out to help you guys get to know them a little bit better, and I think they were really in their element, very relaxed, and I think you
guys are gonna enjoy this one. So without further ado, I'm gonna let George and d' anthony take it away. Standing at six three from North Hollywood, California. Man, he'd a problem, he'd just alucition, he'd an answer. They did that. He melted for your Philadelphia seventy six ers six seven from Iowa, staying George, Bang bangy, welcome back. We got George's here for the seventy sixers inside this podcast. Um, you know, we got a couple of questions just to
get a fans of update on how everything going. Stuff like that. You got a couple of questions for me. I'm ready, yeah, man, I know it's a little chance for you. Yeah, the big bang, Yeah, the you know, the big knee ank there. Usually I'll ask you the questions, but you know, I'll let you take the mic. Come all right back, you're looking at so you know, I got one question for you. You know, everybody know you're great at basketball. You know what I mean, you could
shoot you gotta you know what I mean, you gotta. Yeah. So, but we want to know what else? What else did George just be doing? What else is George's you know, really good at? Uh. You know, I like to think that I'm good at the game of golf. You know, you don't take me as a golfer. Really, Yeah, you look like you could probably go I can't at all. But yeah, I love to golf. I'm gonna say I'm good, but I'm probably not that good it. Um, But you know, I think the best thing that I'm doing is the
thing that you're best at. Hanging out. I can't get it. I mean, we got a lot of time that we're always doing stuff. So I just like hanging out, spending time with my family. But golfing is a passion that I picked up, you know, over the pandemic, where I really you know, got into it, and uh, it's a new hobby. Yeah, yeah, new hobby. I'm nice, d Anthony. You know, players are very aware of their you know,
public personas. You know, what's something the public has right about you and what is something that the public has wrong. You know, Philly fans, they ain't afraid to you know what I mean, voice how they feel, what they see, what's right about it, and what's wrong. I mean, but you are like what you see is what you get. Yeah, I saw. This might be a tough question, I guess you say, what do you think that they might have wrong? I feel for the most part, they have it right.
I mean, I mean kind of like you said, it's like you see what you get. Like, I mean, I'm a quiet person, like until like I really get to meet you, you know what I mean, and then I'm I'm I'll be joking a lot. Probably on a court. People don't probably see me show as much emotion. I probably say that, but like I mean, I think most of the time, like I'll be laughing, joking. You are like one of the only players that like you think that he's like even killed and like, oh it's cool.
But if he's pissing something happened, he just makes it he's small, like on the bench. Shock, I could people probably think you're even killed all the time. Oh yeah, no, I'll be I think I'm chill until i'm not. I think that's the most important thing. So I'll be trying to keep you cool. But you know, here, I got one for you though. It's it's a good one actually. Uh your dream table, you know what I mean? Who you who you want to have dinner with? I know
you like to eat dinner and stuff like that. Hey, what's what's for dinner? Though? Ye? I mean we got snapped. Yeah, like you know, you got whatever you want. So like, who's at it? Like, who's at your table? What? I got like four or five people? I say, you got you got two and you got four other seats? Okay, um, you know I'm definitely gonna start off, you know, with my home girl, Diana Tarossi. I grew up in Massachusetts, so she was like I was growing up. She was no, no,
she was. She played at Yukon and she's kind of, you know, dominated the game then. And I've had a couple opportunities to, you know, have encounters with her. She's like she's a boss. Like, uh so just picking her mind on you know, the game of basketball. Um. And you know how she's gone about, you know, being a pioneer in the women's game. I think that'd be pretty cool. Uhanna Tarsi C one, Yeah, so she's yeah, seat one, Diana Tarossi, seat two? Dead or alive? Can they be?
I mean why not? I've always been, uh since I was a kid obsessed with Abraham Lincoln. You know, I think someone that you know could stand up for what is right, um, you know, freeing slaves, um. You know. I think that's super cool where he stood up for something when it was could have easily just you know, gone the other way and not done that. The next would be my man, Jalen hurts Man, you know what I mean, the same city man leading the team. Already.
I gotta get to dinner with Jalen hurts Man. I think you know, he played at Alabama, everything that happened, all diversity he had to go through, and then he went to Oklahoma and was successful, and then he brought that success here to the Eagles. I thought that was pretty cool. And then the third seat, gosh, I mean, I mean the fourth seat. You know, I might even say Joe Ellenby because you know him maybe laugh you know what I mean? You got hip, Like, what are
we gonna do it? Yeah, we're gonna look at each other. Yeah, I dang, that is a good one. What are you guys eating? What at the table? Pizza? Steak? Ice cream? That he didn't read the whole question, dream table? Who's at it? What's on it? Oh? What's on it? But you definitely see food you like sushi? Yeah, yeah, no, we could do that. So last seat, it's you're getting out to Joe's Joe. No, No, he ain't. Ain't he ain't getting the last seat. Um, you know I might
have to go. No, I was Boston. You got a Boston native. Well, if I say it, they're gonna crush me, you know what I mean. I wasn't gonna say Tom Brady. But I'm not gonna say Tom Brady. Randy Moss. Yeah, I would say Tarall Owens, but we had dinner with him the other you know what I mean? Man, But yeah, no Randy Moss, just because you know when I was bigger than everybody when I was a kid, you know, you go up and grab the football in the yard, Moll.
Still it will happened now, low elevation, ground travel, no air travel. George has done. All right, I got one for you. What is your favorite slash most memorable sporting event you've been to as a fan. I'll give you an example. My my senior year of college, I signed with an agency that was in LA and I got to go to Kobe Bryant's last game. That was like music to the Like it was poetic. But like, bro, you say that, It's like, Bro, I can't bro like that.
I think he shot some hundred point game. I think he shot seventy shots, and it was just like every time he got the ball in the second half, it was like the pickup game that you just got to see. But it was like his last It was the most amazing thing I ever seen. I remember like this, like with like the second second quarter that's when he really caught five. Yeah he was thinking early, but yeah it was a little shaky. But then after that, I'm just
like it was amazing, not missing. Yeah, but um as a sports fan, I mean you went to USC, so I saw the probably some good college kids. It was it had to be one of the USC games. Like I remember first like starting getting there, Um, you know, you get to do a little, um little tailgate. They're walking through like the school and stuff like that. So I got to do that. Walked through the school, walk
through the like all the students and stuff like that. Um, then go onto the field, see them dudes warm up and like USC. It's like USC legend right here. It's pro so like you see these dudes they big, they ain't ready. UM, so it definitely had to be one of the USC games. I think those was those was fun. I got to stand in the stands, fans with the fans and students do the chairs all that. So definitely one of those. Um, what's the good one? When you retire?
What do you want people to say about you? Was that? Dude? I mean, you know, I think, you know, on a serious note, I'll be serious for at one time in my life, but I think, you know, just people respect the hard work that I put in. You know, every single day. I may not have been the fastest jump the highest, but at the end of the day I came in and and gave my all and affected the game in a positive way and affected my teammates in
a positive way. I think the biggest thing for me is I like to be a team guy, get along with everybody, and uh make sure the vibes are are always up. The Anthony can attest to this. I probably talk it two damn much. Um, but you know, just always someone that you know is trying to bring energy and uh came in, did his job to the best of his ability. I think, yeah, I think and a sniper.
Oh yeah, I mean that's three point sniper. Well yeah, I think I think everybody will probably say, like probably the best team guy, like teammate, you know what I mean, Like just the way you're always encouraging people, the way you're always you know, always put the team first. Sometimes you may but like you know what I mean, you're gonna do it either way. So you know. So now
I'm going to ask you the same thing. What do you want you know, when it's all said and then what do you want people to remember about d Anthony Melton Man? And he was a real one, you know what I mean? He was a real done now, but I don't know somebody somebody that like like kind of like you said, it worked, you know, he ain't he ain't having nothing handed to him. Um, I had to go get everything um, and I did it. I did it my way, you know what I mean. I ain't
have to change up or nothing like that. You know, been the same person from time I got into the league to the time I left. So no complaints either. Put on this hard come to work. I respect that. Thank you for coming. You know. Seventy six is inside his podcast. We hear. We'll catch y'all later later, appreciate y'all origin d' anthony. Different players, to be sure, but both have contributed time and time again this season. It's been really cool to watch d' anthony especially grow into
his role. Not that it's not always cool to watch Bang Bang George and he hanging out there, but d' anthony coming into a new team with so many established players and finding his footing right away, making an impact right away on both ends of the floor. It's been really cool to sort of watch him assimilate to this new team. I mean the Grizzlies and the Sixers, very different roster construction and d' anthony finding a way to make an impact on a nightly basis on both teams.
It's been so cool to watch him assimilate to the Sixers. Wait before I share some thoughts about d' anthony Melton's first year with the Sixers. Can we talk about their willingness to do the starting lineup intros and how excited George was, and then how you kind of had a pride out of d' anthony a little bit. George is always probably the first guy most willing to show personality d' anthony. It did take a little bit of coaxing, but once he was ready, his was one of my favor favorites.
And watching them sort of challenge each other to get better and to do more was really special. I loved that they both embraced it. Less surprised to see George embrace it though, of course, than Dy Anthony North Hollywood, California. D' anthony Melton and the Steel's race is still on as we speak. He has a chance with what three games left at this current point in time as we talk, to come away with the most steals in the NBA
for the season. So he already surpassed his Steel's total for a career for his career in a single season, but with three left, he's trailing og An Andobe by one, so it's neck and neck. That would be cool to
see him take home the Steels crown. Recently, Dave Yeager, Sixers assistant coach, told us that he's a knack guy, or he has a high level of the knack factor, a knack for finding the ball wherever it is, getting steals, getting rebounds on both ends of the floor, and that wingspan that he has at his height has served the
Sixers well. And we're talking total steals on the season for a player that's spent much of the season coming off the bench or not necessarily playing starter minutes every night. So for his totals to still be so competitive with starters around the league, extremely impressive stuff from Dan. It's going to be in the one thirties, by the way, big time by the end of the season. Absolutely big time. George Niang, on the other hand, has had a handful
of standout performances this season. Obviously we know that what he can do from behind the arc, but watching him continue to work on his craft, watching him continue to embrace the crowd, continue to embrace his teammates, grow into a a bit more, let's say, of a leader among this group in his second season as a Sixer has been really cool to watch as well. He's so steady that fans may already be taking it for granted a little bit, even though he's only been with the Sixers
for two years now. But someone who has clawed his way through the NBA circuit to a point now where he's a regular rotation player and playing most games each season and now in Philadelphia, just don't take for granted out there that that forty three point number. He knows he has a job to do. He's going to hustle throughout the game, but that shooting job that he does. Earlier in the year, he's talked about how slumps or not. He knows that you're going to have good stretches, you're
going to have bad stretches. But at the end of the day, for a player like him, it's about being near that forty percent number from three point range, and he always is. And I've loved as well watching George and Tyrese Maxie go back and forth in terms of who is the leading three point shooter on the Sixers. The two of them have challenged each other to stay
above forty all season long. Cool to see them arriving at the end of the season as forty percent three point shooters, but the rivalry there has been a sweet one to watch develop. Gotta say it just because we're here Matt talking about Danthony and George together, not technically the first time that they've done a podcast together this season.
If you haven't heard it, if you like what you just heard The Big Yang Theory with George Niang the first episode of this season, we had d' anthony and Tyrese come on together, but we got to know d' anthony on a much deeper level than I think. He is prone to sharing in other settings. So that's a
much longer version, a bit of a deeper version. This one had a little bit more levity that one did too, of course though, so go check that out on the Big Niang Theory podcast wherever you get your pods in the woods, if you get your podcasts there, wherever you get your pods, Oh hilarious. But maybe d'anthony's trying to tell us something by always being around when George has a headset or a microphone, because there was that interview where he was a guest, then he popped in when
Kate Scott and Shake were with George. He's always kind of around. Maybe Orge it around the action. Maybe loves podcasting more to come, we can ask him to come there. Guys, thank you as always for listening to the seventy Sixers Insiders podcast. Matt and I had so much fun doing this series with the guys. Hopefully you did get to know them a little bit better as they get ready
for a big playoff run. If there are other Sixers you're hoping to hear from in the near future, let us know we will always do our best to get your favorites on our show. And thanks as always for listening. The players are locked in it's playoff time. We love when we get the chance to talk in these one on one settings with them, so we bring those to the seventy Sixers Insiders Feed as much as we possibly ken, So thank you for listening to this series and enjoy the playoffs. Se Yahyond
