This is America's Trucking Network with Kevin Gordon.
Welcome more.
Thanks for tuning in on this Tuesday morning. Well, we
got the initial jobless claims last week. Now the Bureau of Labor Statistics has been shut down due to the government's shutdown, the Schumer shutdown, and yet Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan were able to extract the same information that the Bureau of Labor Statistics looks at because this is all posted on the website, and they were able to extract this information, which then leads me, as I've been mentioning over the last couple of weeks, is why are
we dependent on these government agencies to do that and put these numbers together when it's readily available and the people that use that information wait on the Bureau of Labor Statistics or a government agency to collect that data for them, when if they're in that business, they're probably collecting that information anyway as a heads up to their clients. So isn't this a bit of a redundancy And wouldn't
it be more wouldn't it be more? It would be more independent if you've got two different competing firms that are out there getting that statistics and then presenting it. One wouldn't be able to favor it in one direction or another, or fudge the numbers in order to boost their sales or encourage more clients to invest in stocks, because that would come back and bite them in the
butt later on. Anyway, But think of the amount of people, the number of people involved Bureau of Labor Statistics, that are doing what the private sector can do. Going back to Abraham Lincoln, he talked about that we hire the government to do for us collectively what we can't do individually. In other words, I can't afford to have a security officer outside of my house every day. Our neighborhood can't afford that. So what we do, as far as taxpayers
are concerned our city, we hire police department. I can't hire firemen to stand out there also, so we hire fire departments, we hire road departments, all these things that we individually can't do. And so when the government, like the Bureau of Labor Statistics and some of these reporting agencies go into something that can be done in the private sector, why are we letting that happen and why are we building breau this bureaucratic nightmare in terms of
all these individuals. So again that's just my two cents worth that maybe that's one of the areas that can be cut if this information is available. And what it is is that it talks about in here. Now, now let's we get into it. But basically, the states report their numbers to the federal government on a weekly basis, and sometimes that information is delayed, and that's why you
have seasonally adjusted or adjusted later on. Number of Americans filing for applications for jobless benefits fell last week, economists at JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs estimated on Thursday, but lackluster hiring has left many on unemployment roles. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped dropped to a seasonally adjusted two hundred and seventeen thousand for the week ending October
eleventh from two hundred and thirty five thousand the previous week. Now, sky was following a couple of weeks ago with the jobless claims approaching two hundred and fifty thousand. We found out that that was somewhat not somewhat, but inflated by about thirteen thousand thereabouts because of some fraudulent claims that were made in Texas, and this was a group of
people or a group an organization trying to do fraudulent claims. Now, the stories you heard that here on America's struck A network, but you didn't hear that in the Spoon feder regurgitators in the mainstream media. They just said, oh, it was adjusted from the prior week. But again, we correct the information here and give you the straight information without all the fluff, without all the because again, if it bleeds, it leads as far as the Spoon federalgurgitators in the
mainstream media. But that information is out there and that's in people's mind, and what I want to do is correct that if it's wrong. So again, when we look at these numbers, down down to two hundred and seventeen thousand from two hundred and thirty five thousand the prior week, US government shutdown now in its third week, due to political standoff between Republicans and Democrats, basically by Democrats. Now,
let's let me throw this out there. There was a continuing resolution, a clean continuing resolution, no additions from the Democrats, no additions from the Republicans.
It was okay, what we're going to do is vote.
To keep the government open at the same rate, at the same budget, at the same everything as before. None of our stuff that we won as Republicans or Conservatives are added on this or tacked onto this. Nothing from the Democrats. It's just a what they call a clean bill,
clean resolution. And yet the Democrats have voted against that what eleven times now and refuse to open the government because they want to add a one point five trillion dollars in subsidies and government assistance to illegal aliens.
That's the bottom line there.
So a clean continuing resolution has been voted down eleven times by the Democrats. So because they're not getting their way, because they're not getting the additions that they want, they're going to shut the government down as opposed to just leaving things as they are to continue on and on. Now again, go back and listen to what they said a couple of years ago, or even six months ago. I think it was in March that they said, to
shut the government down is ridiculous. So each side needs to pull out all the freebies that are holding this up. And we just have this clean bill, and everybody was on board with that, and all the Democrats or the Democrats voted for now all of a sudden six months later when Donald Trump's in the White House.
Hm, we don't get that interesting.
States, however, continue to collect the claims data and submit it to the Labor Department's database, which remains accessible, so that information is added in there. Economists have been using the unadjusted claims data to make estimates using season adjustment factors that the government published earlier this year. Claims data
was unavailable for Arizona, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Tennessee. Now question here, if this information is so relevant and so important to the decision making as far as the federal reserve on interest rates, as far as how the job market is doing, if businesses are relying on this information as to what the unemployment rate is and just a gauge of how
well the economy is doing. Because if they're out there selling stuff and there's large unemployment, then they can expect that their business is going to take a downturn because people are out of work they don't have money to pay for it. So with that in mind, why are these states late Arizona, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Tennessee. According to this, our estimates assumed the initial claims for Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Arizona, Nevada, which didn't appear in today's DOL data. We're in line
with the latest published numbers, according to Goldman. Sachs said in a note, the range between two hundred and eleven thousand and two hundred and twenty five thousand, using the lowest and highest levels for claims in these states during the year. Now, again, if this is important, why aren't the states getting this in on time and timely information to get this to the necessary people so that they
can make intelligent decisions. Again, this is one of those things that I talk about that if there's no if there's no time frame on this, if there's no penalty for not doing this, and you know, hey, you know I don't get to it today. You know, Hey, I get off work at four o'clock and it's you know, it's two o'clock.
Now, I really don't want to start.
Anything new because you know, then I'll have to maybe I'll have to work five minutes over time, and you know I can't do that as a state.
Office worker or whatever. It's nuts.
Abbiel Reinhardt and economists at JP Morgan. The latest job was claims look quite decent and suggests layoffs remin low.
With movement in the and with no movement in the unemployment rate.
Claims data have become key for Federal Reserve officials trying to assess the health of the labor market ahead of the October twenty eighth twenty ninth policy meeting. Now they get in here into some of the government or some hiring and how some of these numbers are kind of turned around or analyzed and so on.
We'll pick this up coming up.

When someone comes to us for an on the job injury, we have a huge workers compensation practice, but many times we find a defective product that was responsible for that injury. Luckily for them, we have a product liability section headed by my son Mike. In addition to the comp case, there is a product case too. America struck a network seven hundred WLW. I'm talking about
US weekly Jobless Claims data, and it declined. It went from two hundred and thirty five thousand in the prior week down to two hundred and seventeen thousand, So fewer people are being laid off on a weekly basis, which is in line now just since the beginning of the year, over the last several about two three years now, the range, and unemployment has gone from two hundred thousand to up to two hundred and fifty thousand, So at two hundred and seventeen thousand, we're at the lower end of that
particular spectrum, which is good. Now, one of the paragraphs in here, both layoffs and hiring remained slow or remain low rather, which is the same thing we've been hearing now for several weeks and even months. FED Chairman Lion Jerry Powell. That's not part of the article. That's my
little editorial there. But anyway, FED Chairman Lyon Jerry Powell said this week, available evidence suggests that both layoffs and hiring remain low, captain obvious, and that both households perceptions of job availability and firms perceptions of hiring difficulty continue their downward trajectories. Catch the keyword in their perceptions. That's what people are assuming that the job market is slow. Now, why is it slow? What could possibly handle? What could
possibly cause their perceptions? Could it be that down? Talking of the economy since January? I mean, this is some of the crap that we have heard from the spoon fed regurgitators in the mainstream media over the last ten and a half months, ten months thereabouts, well, actually yesterday being the twentieth of October, and the inauguration in January the tw so we're into the nine excuse me, the
ninth month of the second Trump term. So from day one, there's been this negative talk as far as the economy is concerned, and in my opinion, trying to manufacture a recession because when the talk was about terrorists.
Remember you may remember at the beginning of the year when.
They were talking about tariffs, that oh, this is this
is going to spiral out of control. We're going to go into a recession, we are going to have rampant out of control inflation, and on and on and on, none of which has happened, and everybody is admitting that it hasn't happened, and we're seeing a little bit of trickle But when you get into the nuts and bolts of what's causing some of the inflation, it has to do with salary and wage increases from union contracts and other contracts that have been established over the last well
two and a half years, and yet nobody digs into that information and talks about it other than here on America's struck a network. So when you start seeing this inflation going in, where is the inflation coming from.
A couple of weeks.
Ago, Lion Jerry Powell talked about the service sector. Well, the service sector isn't vulnerable to tariffs. The service sector is vulnerable to wages. It is why it's called the service sector. And so if the wages go up in the service sector, then that's going that's going to cause
the inflation in that sector. And digging into those numbers, what we saw was that the number the numbers were high as far as the fees charged by stockbrokers because more people are going into the market because the market is not just the highest for the week, the highest for the month, the highest for the year, it is the highest of all time historically. So people are jumping in, more people are jumping in. The fees aren't going up, it's the volume of people in there that are going up,
and therefore those prices are going up. And when you look at the number of management fees this year versus last year, they are up exponentially. But the reason for that is because of the good economy, the stock market going to record highs and people jumping in and saying Hey, I want to get on this bandwagon. So lion Jerry powisit here talking about the perceptions of households. Well, you're the Fed. You can analyze the information you got twenty
three thousand employees. I'm sure there's some economists, accountants, and some people in there that can read a balance sheet. Maybe they can explain some of this stuff to you. Unemployment claims have remained within the pre government shutdown range. They have not shown large spikes to bite the shutdown pushing thousands of federal contractors out of work. The reason
for that which they just throw that in there. Federal workers, hundreds of thousands of whom have been furloughed, file for claims under a separate program.
So federal workers have a separate.
Program, just like our legislators have a separate program for their healthcare. They're not part of Obamacare. They have their own hybrid and a very nice, comfortable health care plan. So if Obamacare was so great, why aren't they on?
That makes you wonder huh oh? And by the way, all.
Some of these freebies and stuff that go on the rules and things that apply to us don't apply to them.
Isn't that amazing.
Oh, by the way, they are considered essential employees even though they're not there, and I would question as to whether or not they're considered an essential employee. They're still getting a paycheck, So they're getting a paycheck, and they voted them. They voted that the government shut down, so why are they getting paid. See that's some of these
things that just really honked me off. Federal workers hunters, of which they are under a separate program, The labor market remains stuck in a no hire, no fire estate, economists say. According to Central Banks Beige Book now that came out last week. May recall we've talked about the Beige Book. This is a periodic snapshot, if you will, of the economy that is published about eight times about every what do they say everything they say in here
somewhere that it's published. Well, we'll get to it. But it's published about eight times a year, and that's right before one of the Federal Reserve meetings. We've got a meeting coming up the end of this month of the
twenty eighth through the twenty ninth, I believe. And so this Beige Book, which is an economic snapshot of all the different twelve districts talks about, well, this is what's going on in our neck of the woods, here's what's going on in this district, here's what's going on as far as manufacturing, retail and all this, which, again, the Federal Reserve collects this data and they've got this information available for them to make their policy decisions during their
monthly their meetings when they meet to determine interest rate. So if they are capable of accumulating this information and putting it out there and assessing the economy, why is the Bureau of Labor, Statistics, Commerce Department all this sort of stuff doing this redundancy as well? Again, shouldn't this be formed out And oh, if the Federal Reserve is supposed to be this independent organization, well then wouldn't you think that information coming out of them would be unbiased.
Apparently somebody doesn't think so, because these other government agencies are still accumulating that data. Maybe it's a checks in balance type of situation, making sure that one agency is a watchdog in the other.
I don't know.
Bank of Americans survey on Thursday found signs of a slow down in the small business labor market. Its alternative hiring indicator based on Bank of America's small business payment data decrease in September. It also noted business applications with planned wages, viewed as a signal of job creation, have dropped below pre pandemic norms, now pre pandemic norms. If you go back to the beginning, right before the pandemic,
the economy was on a roll. We were chugging out four point one four point five percent GDP.
The lower the.
Unemployment rate was low round four point one four percent thereabouts, lowest unemployment rate or low lowest unemployment rate among Blacks, Hispanics, teenagers. Everything across the board was humming along at historic highs. So if this is below pre pandemic levels, well, pre pandemic levels pretty darn high. The number of people receiving unemployment benefits after the initial week aid proxy for hiring
was unchanged. He seasonally adjusted one million to a nine hundred and twenty seven thousand, So again low hiring, low firing, and the job market is steady and firm at not major layoffs, not major increases, so all in all, not too bad. Coming up, We've got some information on some elds that have been removed from the FMCSA's registered devices list. I'm Kevin Gordon, America's Trucking Network seven hundred WLW.

Five
more elds, those electronic devices for your truck. Let's see, electronic logging devices have been removed from the federal list of devices available available for truckers. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration today announced it has removed five e l ds from the list of devices. These devices were placed on FMCSA revoked devices list due to the company's failure to meet the minimum requirements established and they give the reference, the title number and so on, appendix ab all that
sort of thing. These latest removals elds in recent months. One was removed last month, and they go through the data when they were removed.
The latest models. The removals.
Now I'm just going to mention the model, let me see the provider and the name. I'm going to post this on Facebook, so you can. You don't have to pull off the side of the road and make notes of this. Now, major carriers have.
Up to sixty days to replace the revoked ELD with compliance with a complaint one which I'm sorry, let me back up here. Motor carriers have up to sixty days to replace the revoked ELD with a compliant one looks like a complaint the way they rote it here. FMCSA will send an industry wide email to inform motor carriers now they listen here what you need to do. You need to discontinue using the revoked ELD and then revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours
of service data. Replace the ELD within the complementing the complement got compliant ELD with a registered device now prior to December sixteenth. The deadline for this is December sixteenth. Prior to December sixteenth, safety officials are encouraged by FMCSA not to site drive is using the revoked DLD no record of duty status which is another violation, or a failure to use a registered ELD. Instead, safety officials should request the driver's paper logs, logging software or use the
ld ELD display on a backup method. Then, beginning on December the sixteenth, any motor carriers using that they will be fined and placed out considered.
Out of service.
The LD ELD provider corrects all the identified deficiencies for this device, FMCSA will revisit this and then make these devices currently compliant. But if they don't, then you can't use them anymore. So again, this will be on my Facebook page and you can review it there it's you know, there's all kinds of details in here, but you get the gist of what's going on. And I'm sure you've
seen well they've gone through this before. There's been several times and several devices over the lad last couple of years that have been determined non compliant. So anyway, this will be on my Facebook page again, Kevin Gordon Facebook page. I mentioned earlier in the report on the initial jobless claims that there were comments by the Federal Reserve in their Beige Book. Now last week this Beige book was
published and it talked about the economy. Now, what is interesting is that you have the data from the Beige Book and then you have these comments that are made by others in terms of how they see the economy and where they are coming from. With Lion Jerry Powell saying that he's still concerned about certain things and there's certain signs as far as tariff increases, inflation and so on. Unfortunately that's not backed up by his own department of
the Federal Reserve. The different twelve districts put together this Beige book that come up with the economic the economic status of the of the different districts in the United States in one concise book. Now, again getting back to the Beige Book. Back in the day, when it was paper, uh uh, paper, devinent, when you had paper, they would put this in a book a binder and they would read from that in terms of the different districts around the country, and the cover of the book or the
binder was beige. So they refer to referred to it as the Beige Book. But it's interesting that even though this data is out there, that some of the stuff coming from the Federal Reserve is not not in compliance or in coordination with what their departments are reporting.
It's kind of weird. Uh, President. Let me see. Here's the headline.
Tariffs are pushing prices higher and consumers are feeling the hit, according to the Fed's Beige Book. Now, this is one of those situations of where you see the headline and then you read the story and you scratch your head and say, where'd they come up with that headline? President Donald Trump's and tariffs are pushing inflation generally higher as companies are caught between absorbing the costs or passing them
on to customers. According to a Federal Reserve report on Wednesday, Central banks periodic Beaige book reports, published eight times a year, generally at about six week intervals, categorized overall economic growth as having changed little since the last report on September third. Labor markets were largely stable as demand was muted.
For most of the Fed's twelve districts.
So that would seem to me that everything, well, nothing has changed in the last month. Everything is pretty much on an even keel. If nobody was hitting the panic button a month ago, why are they kind of trying to assert maybe a little bit of a wave or something going on now as opposed to again, are these spoon fed regurgitators? Are some of these people in the FED trying to manufacture a recession?
Do they have a political objective? Again?
They talk about how Donald Trump is appointing people to the Federal Reserve once General Lion Jerry Powell out of there, and everybody's saying, well, you know, if he can do that, and if he's replacing this person, then the independence of the Federal Reserve will be called into question.
I want to remind you that all.
The stuff that the Federal Reserve was talking about all last year in terms of high inflation rate unemployment, being concerned about that inflation was still up. But in September of twenty twenty four, a month and a half before the general election, they lowered interest rates by a full half percentage point, citing they were concerned about the labor market. After talking about inflation for the entire year, all of
a sudden, jobs became the issue. You don't tell me that that wasn't political to try to get Kamala Harris elected. And when you listen to some of these people that have been appointed to the FED, the Federal Reserve Governor, the people who are appointed to the FED are appointed by the president. So if Joe Biden had appointed some of these people on there, you don't think that these people are in compliance or have a little bit of allegiance to his way of thinking. And so all of
a sudden they were independent. If a Democrat appoints these people, but all of a sudden, if a Republican appoints him, all of a sudden, there's political bias in there. Give me a break, we'll pick this up coming up. I'm Kevin Gordon, Americastruck a Network seven hundred WLW with.

Fed's Beige Book.
Shows talking about the labor markets largely stable overall economic growth having changed little, prices rose further during the reporting period.
The report stated, tariff.
Induced input cost increases were reported across many districts, but the extent of those higher costs passing through to final prices varied. So again going through the process in terms of if a tariff is levied, a tariff can be absorbed by the company manufacturing that in the foreign country, they can lower their prices, giving that or sending that to the importer or the exporter. The exporter can absorb
some of that tariff before they send it overseas. The importer on this end could absorb some of that tariff. The wholesaleler that receives that from the importer can absorb some of that. Then when it gets to the retail outlet, the retail outlet can absorb some of that before it even gets to the consumer. So all those steps along the way this can be looked at. Now, if you've got low wages, subsidized wages, subsidized commodities in foreign countries, then they are going to be at an advantage in
terms of having a significant price ting. Again, we did the example a month or so ago, talking about that.
You look at.
These Nike Jordans, the cost to make those is something in the neighborhood of I think twenty five to thirty bucks, and you see on the retail end one hundred and seventy five plus. That's a hell of a markup, my friends.
So if that kind of cushion is there along the way, either from the manufacture to the importer or the exporter to the you know, the importer to the wholesaler to the retail and so on, so that amount, if there's a ten percent increase in the tariff there, that can be absorbed along the way because they're making so much
money to begin with. And again if they are concerned about market share and whether or not consumers are going to look at those prices and say, you know what, I'm going to buy something else, which we are seeing.
We talk about that coming up.
But again, some of this is being absorbed before it even gets to the consumer level. In some cases, firms held prices unchanged to stay competitive, as I mentioned, and to appease inflation sensitive clients. However, some businesses say they we're fully passing higher import costs along to their customers. Now where we have seen that is in the electronics area. Some of those areas, some of those items have gone up,
and I think imported furniture that's another one. A few districts reported to the slowing demand actually pushed prices down for materials.
Trade war has escalated.
In recent days as China has ordered restrictions on coveted rare earth minerals, while Trump has retaliated with a thread of one hundred percent tariffs on Chinese imports. The release comes amid a dearth of relevant economic data due to the government shutdown entering the third week. He providers such as the Labor and Commerce departments are largely closed due to the impass. Again, that information is available through other sources,
and they've had that. However, Bureau of Labor Statistics workers have been called back, so they've been unfurloughed, if you will,
back to release the pivotal consumer price Index report. Both as the inflation gauged to index cost of living adjustments for Social Security, so they want them back to come up with the numbers for the consumer price index, so that information is available to the Federal Reserve when they meet on the twenty eighth and twenty ninth of this month to determine what they're going to do as far as interest rates, but also, as we talked about last week,
that the information that needs to be inputed as far as Social Security, the cost of living allowance that is added to those Social Security payments that are going out starting in January. But again we're still talking about a period of time from October. You know, usually that information, as we talked about in that story, comes out. Well, last year, it came out on October tenth, I believe it was scheduled to come out on the fifteenth of
this month. So if it comes out next week, which they're saying it's going to be out by the twenty fourth, shouldn't be a problem and they should be able to adjust that as far as the computers are concerned. But again, the inflation rate is necessary or a part of the numbers that the Federal Reserve look at will look at when they meet on the twenty eighth and twenty ninth.
Basebook said consumer spending nudged lower in recent weeks, though it noted strong spending on luxury items and traveled upper income earners. Lower and medium earners meanwhile, pursued discounts and promotions, which shocks me that people don't do that on a normal basis.
Anyway, who in their right mind wants to.
Pay something other if a discounted price is available, why wouldn't you take advantage of that. I talked about this a couple of weeks ago where they were interviewing somebody having to do with price increases at Walmart or something, and they were talking to somebody who said, well, you know, I think I'm going to have to take some drastic measures and maybe start using coupons. That's a drastic measure.
Another thing they talk about is people using you know, dropping down a notch or maybe going with store brands. Let me tell you something. You know, well, it winds up being a plug for krog But that's where we shop a lot. But years ago, just for the heck of it, I think it was back in two thousand and eight or whatever, during the great recession that they call called it, I thought, well, you know, what the heck, I'm going to try their brands, either for peanut butter
or cereal, the various Kroger brands. And what shot the heck out of me is that I've found that some of their items I'll mind you when you get to Hines and Frenches mustard and stuff like that, No, it's not the same. But as far as peanut butter is concerned, I prefer to the national brands. And if you look at the ingredients on the cereal and you look at some of the ingredients, the artificial colors and stuff like that, that's not in the Kroger brands, but it is in
the national brands. And it's My wife has been conscious of this for hush over a decade now, maybe fifteen years, and she'll go to you know, we'll be in this store and she'll look at those things say well, this has got this and this, this and this, and even though in low levels it's not supposed to in low levels it doesn't harm you. But the fact that it's in almost everything you eat, then it's going to build up in the system and cause problems.
This might be part of.
The maybe my wife should have been the Maha or maybe she should have had Bobby Kennedy's job all these years, but part of the Maha movement.
Basically she was Maha before Maha was MA.
But again, when you look at the individual ingredients, I was shocked at you know, you go to the ingredients and you know, they're like a three inches long. Some of the stuff on the Kroger brands are like, you know, a few ingredients and stuff. It is absolutely amazing, and they're generally you know, priced differently or priced lower, and so you know, that's a way of cutting your bills and actually eating better. So again, discounting and going to
a lower priced item sometimes not all that bad. Sometimes some of the things that you're I don't want to say forced into, but some of the stuff you explore, you wind up finding a better way of doing things.
And as I.
Mentioned before, takes about an hour a week out of your time to kind of check where the low prices are in the stores around you and maybe download digital coupons to save some money. Where they talk about in here that well, you know, cost conscious people are looking for discounts and promotions. Why wouldn't you do that on a regular basis? Folks were up against clock here. We didn't have time to get some of these other stories,
but we'll get to them tomorrow. I'm Kevin Gordon, America's truck and Network seven hundred WLW.

Day twenty one. Now the government shut down at the top of the hour, reports I'mley maun King.
Now, all we want to do is have a vote of continuation. And so first time in history that a group has not voted for continuation. So they have what's called a Trump derangement problem.
President Donald Trump, who's excited about his ballroom project, continuing to point the blame at Democratic leaders who remain firm other healthcare demands for Americans. The Republican led government has been shut down for three weeks now as Senators have failed for the eleventh time to reopen the government. Now that's affecting workers that patrol our nuclear weapons.
Roughly fourteen hundred employees of the National Nuclear Security Administration, which safeguards the country's nuclear stockpile, now on unpaid leave. Only four hundred workers remain on the job. But Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to bring the House into session.
Every day that the government is shut down. It is a danger to the American people.
And Democrats are refusing to back down, insisting on a deal to repeal Medicaid cuts and extend healthcare subsidies ABC's Mary Bruce.
Here's the BABU scorecasts.
We're clouding up and we'll see a chance of ragin through daybreak, a morning low of fifty degrees our Tuesday, then after that chance mostly sunny, a high at sixty five at night, mostly cleared, a low down to forty four. Investigators say the suspect in last week's Fountain Square shooting has a history of violence.
He surrendered to police over the weekend, and now he's being held in Hamilton County on two point six million dollars. Twenty four year old Shaquille Ferguson is allegedly the person seen on surveillance video firing gunshots at the Citybird location on Fountain Square last week, injuring two people. Responding police previously arrested an underage teen in that incident, accused of dumping a gun as he tried to run from the scene.
Ferguson's attorney says he was acting in self defense. Investigators also say that same gun was used in a shooting on Spring Grove in Northside two days before. Ferguson's been on probation after he was convicted of aggravated assault earlier this year. I'm Jack Crumley News Radio seven hundred WLW.
Over Kentucky Drivers, you need to plan for a detour around the Trott Street Bridge this week. KYTC has closed the Girl Scouts Bridge for a week due to emergency repair work. Hydraulic jacks are in place to keep the bridge up while Cruiser worked to install new bridge bearings to handle temperature changes and traffic loads, especially when the Fourth Street Bridge closes up. KYTC crews are expecting to reopen this bridge Monday.

Sports FC Cincinnati midfielder Evander named to the MLS Team of the Match day number thirty nine on Monday. His goal and assist in the three nail victory over c F Montreal gives the Brazilian his twelfth honor of the season. That's a club record in Cincinnati, and the Orange and Blue picked up their thirty third recognition this year. Evander
finishes the regular season with eighteen goals fifteen assists. It's Hell is Real Playoff edition next Monday at TQL Stadium against the Columbus crew first kick at six forty five. It's a temporary decision by a Franklin County Common Police judge, but it's one that can bring name, image and likeness or NIL to Ohio high school athletics. Currently, Ohio is one of six states that don't allow compensation to high
school students. Attorney Luke Fedlam and his client wide receiver, Jamir Brown of Hubert Heightswain, have won a temporary restraining order on that statewide band, blocking it into another hearing on December fifteenth.
What's being asked here is for a student athlete to be able to earn compensation, not just be given compensation, but to earn it based on the licensing of their name, image and likeness for social media influencing and other things. And so that is an opportunity for high school student athletes.
The OHSAA is expected to give details on this in the near future. Our next update is at the bottom of the hour. I'm Ley Mawen, News Radio seven hundred WLW You.
