Hello everyone, and welcome to the seven Minute Leadership Podcast. It's episode six eighty five. We are living in loud times. Notifications never stop, expectations keep rising, problems stack faster than we can solve them. In Somewhere in all of that noise, leaders are trying to make clear decisions, take care of people,

and still keep everything moving forward. So today I want to take you in a different direction, not forward backward, because some of the best leadership lessons you need right now now were figured out thousands of years ago before smartphones, in emails and meetings that should have been emails. Ancient wisdom was built in chaos, war, uncertainty, and survival. Sound familiar, So let's strip this down into something you can actually

use today. Here are five ancient leadership principles that still win in modern chaos. First, control what you can control, and I think the stoics back then nailed this. They understood something that most leaders forget. You cannot control everything happening around you. You can only control your response. So here's your action step today. When something goes sideways and it will pause and ask yourself one question, is this within my control? If the answer is no, stop wasting

energy on it. Shift immediately to what you can influence your tone, your decision, your next move. That alone will cut your stress in half and sharpen your leadership instantly. Second, slow down your reaction time. Ancient warriors didn't rush blindly into battle. They observed, they assessed, then they moved with purpose. Modern leaders do the opposite. We react fast and think later,

and that's backwards. So here's your action step. The next time someone brings you a problem, Do not answer immediately, take a breath, ask one follow up question by yourself ten seconds. Those ten seconds will separate you from reactive leaders and put you in the category of composed leaders. Third, discipline beats motive. Ancient cultures understood this better than we do. Motivation is unreliable. Discipline is consistent. You're not going to

feel like leading every day. You are not going to feel energized, inspired, or even ready, and that doesn't matter. Your action step is pick one leadership habit that you will do every single day for the next thirty days. Maybe it's checking in with one employee, maybe it's reviewing one process, maybe it's giving one piece of real feedback. Do it whether you feel like it or not. That's how leaders build credibility, not in big speeches, but in

daily consistency. Fourth, your words carry weight. Ancient leaders understood that what they said could calm a crowd or start a riot. Words mattered, and they still do in your world. Old one sentence can build trust or destroy it. So your action step before you speak today, ask yourself this. Will this move the team forward or hold them back. If it doesn't move them forward, rethink it. Silence is better than careless words. Fifth, lead by example or don't

lead at all. Ancient leadership was visible. You didn't lead from behind a screen. You lead from the front. Your team is watching everything you do. Now what you say, what you do, So your action step identify one behavior you expect from your team that you were not consistently demonstrating. Fix it today. If you expect accountability, be accountable. If you expect professionalism, be professional. If you expect effort, show effort. Because culture is not what you say it is. Culture

is what you model every day. So let me tie this all together. Ancient wisdom works because human nature has not changed. People still want clarity, they still want direction, They still watch their leaders closely. The tools have changed, the environment has changed, the pressure has increased, but leadership at its core is still the same. And here's where this gets real for you. You don't need a new app. You do not need another meeting. You do not need

more information. You need to execute simple principles. Consistently control what you can control, slow down your reactions, choose discipline over motivation, Be intentional with your words, and lead by example. If those five things today, not next week, not when things calm down, but today, you will cut through chaos faster than most leaders around you. And here's the final piece. Chaos is not your enemy, it is your proven ground. This is where leaders are exposed. This is where leaders rise.

Anyone can lead when things are calm. That's management. Leadership shows up when things are messy, uncertain, and uncomfortable. That is where you earn your reputation. That is where your team decides if they trust you. That is where your legacy starts getting written. So the question is not how do I avoid chaos. The question is how do I lead through it better than anyone else in the room. And now you have five answers you can start using immediately.

So take more one of these principles and apply it before your day ends. Not all five, just pick one, do it with intention, do it with focus, and watch what happens.
