Helping leaders motivate their people to a higher level of performance through strong human relations, team building, and goalachieving. This is the seven Minute Leadership Podcast with your host Paul Fellawledo.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the seven Minute Leadership Podcast. It's episode three to ZHO eight and for this episode, I want to share a leadership moment that didn't come from a boardroom, a team meeting, or even a book. It came from a six hour film shoot for just seven seconds of commercial footage. So a couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to be on the set of a professional TV commercial that I was hired to be in. It was a six hour night shoot outside in Every
detail was meticulously handled by the film crew. Camera angles, lighting, timing, positioning, wardrobe, sound, you name it. They covered it. Six hours of this all for just seven seconds worth of content. That kind of commitment to excellence made a big impact on me. But there was something even more powerful that stood out that evening. It was the director. All night long, he
did something simple but brilliant. In between takes, he walked around to every member of the crew, from the lead camera operator to the person laying down tape on the pavement and kept asking the same question, what are we forgetting that's stupid? Not what did we miss? Not is everything perfect? But what are we forgetting that's stupid? It was raw, it was honest, and it got results. One of the crew eventually said we should remove the tape marks from the road because they might show up in
the shot. Boom. Problem solved, issue caught, disaster avoided. That's leadership. That's engaging every single person on your team, regardless of their title or job description. That's flattening the hierarchy for a moment and creating space for ideas, caution flags, and simple reminders. Because here's the truth, it's often the small, stupid things that sink the ship. It's the crooked name tag in a formal photo. It's the wrong date on
a big presentation. It's the background noise no one thought to eliminate, and it's almost always avoidable if someone just asks the question. So here's your leadership take away this week. Start asking your team what are we forgetting that's stupid? Ask it before the big meeting, before the shift starts, before you hit go. Invite answers from everyone, not just your leadership team. It shows humility, it builds trust, and most importantly, it prevents failure. So leadership isn't just about
vision and direction. It's about pulling your team close and making sure everyone has a voice, especially when it comes to the details. The great ones know that a clean final product often depends on catching the tapemarks before the camera rolls. And this has been a big week for me. Two books finally published, The Leadership Academy and The Seven Minute Leadership Survival Guide, both now available on Amazon, and
I hope you'll check them out. This has been the seven Minute Leadership Podcast and I thank you for listening.
