Hello everyone, and welcome to the seven Minute Leadership Podcast. It's episode two twenty five in. Today's episode is about simplifying one of the most crucial activities for leaders, and that's setting goals. Whether you're managing a small team, leading a large organization, or just striving to be a better version of yourself, this simple ten minute goal setting exercise can set the tone for a successful year. So why does goal setting matter so much? Well, leadership is about
vision and execution. If you don't know where you're going, you can't expect your team to follow. Goal Setting alignance priorities, clarifies expectations and motivates everyone toward a shared purpose. More simply, it gives you a roadmap to follow. And the beauty of this exercise is its simplicity. Just three questions that you're going to write down on a blank sheet of paper. And here's the three questions. Question number one, what are the top three outcomes I want to achieve this year?
And this question really centers on your personal leadership goals. Think big, but stay specific. For example, increase team productivity by fifteen percent, launch a new programmer service by mid year. Promote a healthier workplace culture. Remember these outcomes should be measurable, so you'll know when you've hit your targets. In question number two, what does success look like for my team?
And here you're envisioning collective achievements. What do you want your team to accomplish and how how do you want them to grow? For instance, complete all major projects on time and under budget. Build a team environment where collaboration thrives. Achieve individual growth for each team member through training and mentoring. Write down what success looks like in detail. The clearer the vision, the easier it will be to lead your
team towards it. And the final question that you're going to write down on this piece of paper is how can I help my team achieve their personal goals? And this question is all about servant leadership. Take the time to learn your team members' personal aspirations. They might want a promotion, better work life balance, or even to learn a new skill. Your role is to connect their goals to the broader mission of your organization and provide them
with the tools, opportunities, encouragement to succeed. Your role is also to remove the obstacles standing in their way. And once you've completed this exercise, don't just stop there. Share your goals with your team to ensure transparency, revisit and refine them regularly. Encourage your team to do the same exercise so everyone is aligned. Because ten minutes of reflection can lead to a year of clarity and progress. So this exercise works because it forces you to pause, reflect
and look at the big picture. It also balances personal, team and organizational goals, ensuring alignment at every level. And the act of writing your answers on a blank sheet of paper makes your thoughts tangible, actionable, and accountable. It's the small intentional things your team notices. Remember, leadership isn't about perfection, It's about intention and there's nothing more intentional
