Helping leaders motivate their people to a higher level of performance through strong human relations, team building, and goal of GeV. This is the seven Minute Leadership Podcast with your host Paul fella Aldo. Hello, everyone, welcome to the Seven Minute Leadership Podcast, Episode one eighty five, and let's dive right into fifteen tips to help you be more successful. So I talk to leaders all
the time of every level in every industry that you can think of. In these fifteen topics always find a way to wiggle their way into the conversation. So the first one is always going to be setting goals for yourself. I use smart goals. I talk about smart goals all the time. You've heard me mentioned smart goals at least a dozen times probably the last twenty five episodes. Smart goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound.
That's what I use. I think they're beneficial. I think they will help you. If you've not yet discovered or use smart goals, you should give it a try. Number two, start your day with some kind of a morning routine. And it's unbelievable to me how many people talk to me about their morning routines that are very successful Leaders managers, CEOs, whatever, but morning routines, rituals, things that include like meditation, exercise, journaling,
writing down your to do list for the day. Whatever it is, you have to embrace it and use some sort of a morning ritual or a morning routine. It's going to set your tone for the day. If you're someone that just wakes up at the last minute rolls out of bed, that's kind of how your day is probably going to go. So set yourself up for success for the day by having some kind of a morning routine. Break
tasks into smaller steps. I'm a big believer that if you can divide your bigger, more complex tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks, it's going to help you maintain focus and it's going to allow you to track your progress towards completing that objective. Number four is read daily. I think it's important to dedicate some time to either reading books, articles, industry related material, or even the daily headline news. Expanding your knowledge and staying updated is only going
to help you as a leader. Number five is one of my favorites, and that's network strategically, and that means attending industry events, join professional organizations, that are relevant to your industry and utilizing all of the social media platforms to help you connect with like minded individuals, and maybe it even helps you
find potential mentors. I know, for me, I'm the administrator of an emergency management group on Twitter, and I think it has seven hundred people in it, and it's great just to be able to log into that and get to my people, my fellow like minded emergency management people, and see what they're talking about and jump in and out of their conversations. It helps tremendously
to be able to have that type of a network. And number six, this is another one you've heard me talk about exhaustingly, and that's embracing failure as a learning opportunity. Right. I always say this at my job, I can deal with failure, I can't deal with incompetence. I'm one of those people that believes you can analyze a failure, pull the lesson out of
it, and readjust your approach accordingly to then be successful. Just with this episode of this podcast, believe it or not, this is the fourteenth take. It never takes me fourteen times to record an episode, but I recorded this earlier. I was doing my iPhone update while I was recording it, and then I listened to the episode once it posted everywhere, and it was all garbled and it was unlistenable. So I had to delete that everywhere, and now I'm recording it again. I had a good laugh about it,
and here we go, So embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Number seven would be develop effective public speaking skills. If you go back to my original seven minute leadership challenge again. You can find this on my website at Paul Falavelito dot com under free stuff. Click it, download it. You'll find a list of things to practice every day. Public speaking skills is one of them, because it doesn't matter if you're doing an interview or presentation, a
sales pitch, whatever it is that you're doing. You have to be able to learn how to speak confidently and persuasively as a leader. Number eight would be fine feedback and get feedback from different horses. So this means going to your colleagues, going to your employees, to your customers, to your mentors, and yes, even to your vendors. You have to be able to get different perspectives and identify areas for your improvement. On the list also is
stay organized. You got to use tools today like calendar, project management apps, to do lists, whatever you need to be able to stay organized and be able to prioritize your tasks effectively. Number ten would be emphasized your work life balance. You have to be able to put that time aside for your
family, for your own individual hobbies and relaxation. The goal of that is to avoid burnout and so that you can also maintain a healthy lifestyle and perspective, because it's going to help you be more successful if that's all imbalance. Number eleven would be keep up with industry trends. So again this would be stay informed about your specific market trends, the emerging technologies in your business sector, and changes maybe in your consumer preferences, so that you can adapt your
strategies accordingly. Number twelve is continuously expand your network. We talked about strategically dealing with your network earlier, but now let's talk about expanding your network. So this means attending conferences and seminars and workshops so that you can meet new people in broaden your professional connections. Number thirteen. This one's a hard one for a lot of people, and that's delegate effectively. I see people delegate
correctly, and I see people delegate incorrectly all the time. Delegating tasks that can be done by others is one of the most important things as a leader you need to learn how to do because it's going to free up your time so that you can focus on higher level responsibilities and have better strategic decision making. Number fourteen is practice active listening. You have to give your full attention when you're engaging in conversations with people. You have to be able to demonstrate
empathy during that discussion and ask thoughtful questions. It's going to help you build stronger relationships. The biggest mistake I see all the time is when someone goes to a manager, a leader, whoever, and they're sitting there trying to talk with them about a roadblock that they're encountering or a problem that they're having, and that person's listening with one ear, looking at them with one eye and their other ear and their other eyes on their cell phone. It's one
of the biggest mistakes I see happen every day in the business world. And the last one on this list is to make sure that you celebrate your milestones and your successes. You have to be able to recognize and celebrate your achievements all the time so that you can maintain motivation and keep your positive mindset for your team. So remember, successes a combination of consistent effort, personal growth,
and adaptability. You can tailor these tips to suit your specific circumstances and goals, and always be open to learning and adjusting your approach as you progress on your journey. Above all else, success is a journey that's unique to each of us. These tips and habits can serve as a foundation, but adapt them to suit your personal circumstances and all of your aspirations.
