Episode description

Liz and Jesse are joined by Julia Brownlie, a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency & Trauma Centre at RBWH. Julia has a special interest in women’s health and helps us navigate through some considerations in navigating challenging and uncomfortable conversations, particularly with relation to women’s health issues.

Julia’s Five Things:

  1. There are a series of topics clinicians struggle to talk about, particularly with gendered issues.
  2. Avoiding placing our lived experience onto how we care for and discuss issues with patients.
  3. Acknowledging and validating the impact of what is happening for the patient.
  4. Be compassionate and consider the trauma or suffering that may come with this patient to where they are today.
  5. Listen, listen, listen.
